Guest Reviews
- Tony (7/5): -
- Cameron (10/5): Great little place in lovely location. Host was very good with communication and access was easy. - Easy access with great communication. Nothing, everything was fine
- Jason (7/5): Very pleasant. -
- Ayshen (8/5): Overall a great stay and would recommend. - Very quiet area, barely saw anyone around. There were koalas right outside on the trees around the street, one had a baby. We also saw a few wallabies while driving around other nearby streets. Just a 15-20 min drive from Kingscote to get food. Kitchen was equip enough for us to make do for breakfast and a stir fry dinner. Bathroom was huge with good counter space. Great comfortable living and dining area.
It was just my husband and I, so we just used one of the bedrooms, but the place would be great for families. The floors could have used a mop. I'm from Hawaii and we don't wear shoes in the house, so the bottoms of my feet were a little dirty. Toaster was full of crumbs and the kitchen utensils could use an update. Only a really tiny tray for ice, so I couldn't make enough as I wanted. Toilet had a little bit of splatter marks.
Didn't realize there was only a washing machine and no dryer (I probably didn't read in the amenities). So by the time I washed clothes, it barely had time to dry overnight. I think this is a common thing in Australia tho this was the first time I experienced it so it was a little inconvenient.
- Luca (1/5): Would be a nice property if they only did the required maintenance - The house in itself is pretty nice and would allow for a nice stay. It is generally clean (the kitchen was not clean, with lot of dust and grease on the kitchenware, in the closets etc). As we arrived we realised the hot water did not work. We immediately contacted the host via whatsapp and booking (around 5 pm). Freezing cold shower in the evening and next morning. I sent multiple messages and tried to call them, but they gave no sign of life on that day, nor the next day until 10 am. Probably the heater ran out of LPG. On the phone they told me they would send someone to fix. But a message later said I should fix and they gave me the instructions (am I a plumber supposed to mess with the gas valves). As it was the only way to have a hot shower I fixed it. It worked for maybe an hour. Then no hot water again. Finally the owner came on the second day at 7:30 am waking us up but at least fixing the problem
I have never seen a property managed so sloppily.
- Julie (9/5): Fabulous location! - A lovely little house, with views over the bay. Very comfortable, clean and with enough utensils to cook dinner. It was perfect for us.
- Cassandra (8/5): -
- Amos (8/5): - Location The outside of the house is a little bit unkempt
- Judith (8/5): - Very convenient place to stay, quiet and very comfortable beds. Under the sink smell.
- Marian (7/5): Peaceful clean and comfortable. - Comfortable clean beds. Clean modern bathroom. Reasonable stocked kitchen. Walking distance to the beach. No dishwasher.
Neighbours using a bobcat one day of our stay.
Only three dinner plates for 4 guests.
- Melanie (10/5): Exceptional - Our stay at Berds Nest was lovely. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable with a homely feel about it. The home is small so would be cosy with a family but was perfect for three adults. Everything you need is supplied and the location is perfect, with just a short walk down to the jetty or beach. Beds were comfortable and kitchen, laundry and bathroom were modern. Thanks for having us 😊
- Gabriel (10/5): Highly recommended - Check in was effortless and no fuss, which is exactly what we were looking for after a long day of travel. The location was amazing, the house was clean and comfy, everything worked well. It was perfect! The only thing I'd mention is if you are a light sleeper, the aircon makes random loud noises through the night.
- Tracey (8/5): Loved this stay. - Great location from which to explore Kangaroo Island. Our host gave plenty of sightseeing info beforehand and we took our own food - as there were no shops to purchase from in the town. Inside was beautifully rennovated and modern. Looked better on the inside than the outside. Would have been nice to have a bit more of a view of the ocean. One bed was a little soft.
- Lori (8/5): Very good - Great location within walking distance of seeing koalas, kangaroos and echidnas and with easy access to wonderful Emu Bay beach. The home was comfortable but could have been a bit cleaner. (Floors, BBQ)
- Naciye (8/5): very comfortable, even my mum was impressed - everything was provided sorry.. but the trees/bushes at the front garden, blocked the beautiful view
- Philip (5/5): Reasonable but wouldn't revisit or recommend. - Location good. Disappointed in dirty bbq, dirty windows (cobwebs and fly screens detached) insufficient crockery for 4 people.
front yard ordinary and no view of bay.
We thought perhaps due to proposed renovation condition only fair.
Rubbish bins were full on arrival.
- Alyssa (8/5): A comfortable family stay in the picturesque setting of Emu Bay beach - Excellent location in Emu bay.
Great accommodation for families.
Staff excellent support regarding check in and check out. It was quite dusty and unclean under the furniture, especially the beds.
Shower water temperature was temperamental and quite dangerous with its abrupt and sudden changes to hot water.
As the bedrooms didn’t have air conditioning, it would be great if the windows could be left open.
- Vicki (8/5): Great place to relax and enjoy. - The house is lovely. Upon arrival we were met by a very large brown kangaroo. Welcome to Emu point. The house is lovely. Very clean and neat. Great place to relax. You can walk down to the foreshore to see the penguins (if your lucky). Would recommend this venue for families. You need to buy goods before you arrive as there are no restaurants or shops. But were advised before we arrive so we were prepared. However on Friday and Saturday evenings there is a pop up caravan on the beach which was lovely.
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- Penprase (7/5): Emu Bay is a very nice place to stay on KI. - Nice and quiet location. Local wildlife. Nice beach for a walk. Convenient to the rest of KI. Some time should be spent to clean the fly screens (they are filthy). Cobwebs on the cornices. The mattress in the back room might need replacing as it sinks in the middle.
- Kiandra (7/5): Good -
- Holly (7/5): Good -
- Dieter (7/5): Good - The location was great although there was no view of the beach. Kitchen utensils could have been better.
- Foster (9/5): Location - Great location
- Shingai (6/5): Pleasant -
- Carolyn (9/5): Very comfortable house it had everything we needed. - Convenient location and met all of our needs
- Howard (9/5): Superb -
- Debra (7/5): Good - Bottom of the driveway needs fixing
- David (7/5): Lovely place to stay - Lovely accomodation and great location very close to an amazing beach. Beds are comfy. House is clean. Kitchen well stocked with kitchen utensils. The wifi isn’t fast, if you have a 2 wheel drive the driveway is hard to get onto (park in the road) and they could do with a mixer tap in the shower to save water (which is from a rain tank) apart from those small things highly recommended.
- Blanca (9/5): We really enjoyed our stay at Berd Nest. Great location, beautful beach, lovely house with everything you need and clean - Clean and comfortable for a family of 4. Great location! Perfect get away on Kangaroo Island We loved pur stay. Really petty stuff… fly screens on windows and exhaust over stove could be cleaner.
- Diane (8/5): Very good -
- Toya (2/5): unpleasant and uncomfortable - the price was fair This property was not expensive and may well suit a family of young kids who are out most of day and don't care about cleanliness and comfort and deco, but not a couple esp an older one who wanted a nice place to read and enjoy being in. The soft furnishings were revoltingly filthy so had to sit on a towel or my sarong - the cushions, sofa, chairs, blankets not cleaned - with covid still around cleanliness is essential. It was basic and minimalistic with unpleasant decor. Many things were broken. We felt the place was as cheap as could be with no maintenance input for a long time and the owners would not have their own home in this state. It was unpleasant experience and put me off future Air B&Bs. Next time I will pay more to get better.
1- coffee table leg broken,
2-dining chairs fifty soft covers and uncomfortable and living room blankets not cleaned
3-stove timer broken- flashed continuously in bright red so covered by black T towel
4-no ABC on TV to watch news
5-no chair or even hook for your dressing gown in BR1
6-horrid polyester blend sheets, covers and pillows
7-no reading lamps in living area so I could not read,
8-overhead light switches in places I could not find and when I did centre half way up wall could hardly reach.
9-Brocken window that would not close so cold wind throughout house (had to stuff with blankets)
9-broken flysreen
10-cheapest tackiest blinds (my husband repaired some) which did not run.
11-No curtains in the main BR so were woken early dawn each day with just light blinds
12-mould smell in bathroom
13- garden unkempt and unappealing
14-cheap heavy cracked horrid plates
15- it was v windy and something outside BR 1 rattled so loudly we could not sleep
- Yuepeng (8/5): Very good -
- Jo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (8/5): Very good -
- Carolyn (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the location, the house was perfect..had everything you needed. No lighting at the very entrance ( the drive way near the street) and the path was uneven too..
- Naomi (9/5): We really enjoyed Kanagroo island Emu Bay is lovely a great base for exploring the island . Birds Nest had all the facil - Location and facilities Nothing
- Danwei (8/5): This was a wonderful trip. - Quiet and cozy home for me and family. Love the sea out of the windows at dusk. And the milk way at night. Children love it very much. Also a walk distance to the sea. I like the bath and kitchen, except that there is no dishwasher provided😀😂
- Scott (6/5): Great place that was clean and renovated let down in winter by heating and old cookware. - The location at Emu Bay was amazing and the house would be perfect for a summer beach holiday. It was clean and maintained too a good level in general except for the two points below which other guests have mentioned in their reviews as well. It was winter and as previous comments have suggested the place needs some heating in the bedrooms and a better heating unit to warm up the large living space. Also as others have mentioned it would be advisable to replace the non stick cookware as it was really scratched up. It would not be an overly costly thing to do to ensure the health of the guests is maintained. These two things let the property down for winter otherwise i think it would have rated much higher!
- Russell (9/5): Superb - Some of the cookware had not been properly cleaned. More and better quality cookware would have been an improvement.
- Jen (9/5): Cute, cozy house in a top location. Has everything you need for your KI holiday. - House was well equipped with everything you might need. Location is excellent. We really love Emu Bay. Bed was comfy. Great shower, and pleased with the roomy bathroom. So many properties have small, cramped bathrooms. Thumbs up! :-) Can't fault anything. Lock box for keys was a bit tricky, but we got there. All good.
- Jill (9/5): Berds Nest was a very relaxing and comfortable accommodation, value for money. - Absolute quiet and serenity of Emu Bay, sea view from the house, comfort of house, great bed, only 15 minutes from Kingscote for food, dining out, cafes, etc well positioned for travel to points of interest. House retained a lot of heat during the day and became hot and stuffy by days end- requires external canvas awnings, cooking pots are worn and scratched and need replacement, fly screen on main bedroom windows was blown off and would not fit back on, in the bathroom 2 out of 3 windows had no flywire screens and let in insects.
- Bede (8/5): Loved our stay. - Very easy to Collect Keys. Loved the Location. Emu Bay is a beautiful , peaceful and easy to access other parts of the Island with a car. The bathroom was New. Shower great. Bed Comfy. Bonus Apple tree in Back yard. Fresh Apples everyday. Plus WAshing Machine. Very handy.
- Ioana (8/5): Very good - I liked the layout of the house and the big windows. The mosquito nets were very dusty.
- David (9/5): Superb - Lovely location at Emu Bay. Quiet place for a few days away, a bonus was a couple of visits from the friendly neighbourhood kangaroo!
- Natalie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (9/5): Great place and location - It was very good. it met our expectations.
- Sarah (10/5): Absolutely Beautiful Spot! - everything! location great, house beautiful, bed so comfortable, very homely! no complaints what so ever! will definitely return again! nothing!
- Norman (8/5): Very good -
- Barbara (10/5): Exceptional - The house was great 😊
- Alan (7/5): Good -
- Gordon (9/5): relaxing and great for getting on to Emu Bay beach - the location was great nothing
- Lynn (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely comfortable place. Very clean with everything we needed. 2 minutes walk to a beautiful beach.
- Kate (9/5): Superb -
- Bob (9/5): good - very comforting the fly sliding door needs to be fixed as it will not lock every time you try it comes off its rail .
- Gim (8/5): Very good - Quiet and safe. Would have enjoyed the island better if it had not rained all day on our last day Controlling the hot and cold water in the shower. And providing hot water at the sink ⁸
- Iwona (9/5): Superb -
- Sarah (9/5): Superb - Modern house, very comfortable. Very peaceful, relaxing stay and lots if useful information provided by the owner to ensure we enjoyed our time on the island.
- Robyn (9/5): Superb - Spacious, lovely decor and beautiful quiet surroundings.
- Alicia (8/5): Very good - Perfect location and place to stay for a family of 4. The property had everything we needed and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended.
- Sanjaya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisa (9/5): Superb -
- Sue (8/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Berd's Nest and exploring Kangaroo Island. - Peaceful and quiet. Lovely location, close to the beach. The bird life was beautiful! View from the main rooms was great. Information about KI was available. Also, we loved the mandarines, straight off the tree. Slight stale smell in the main bedroom.
- Johno_sa (6/5): Neat and tidy 2BR house. Great for a summer stay but very cold in winter. - Excellent communication from property manager prior to arrival. Good location in Emu Bay. Good views from large front windows. Clean and well presented inside. Lounge and dining facilities, TV, powerpoint access, breakfast bar or computer work area all good. Useful information on local tourism features provided. The house was very cold and the small reverse cycle air conditioner failed to heat up the lounge adequately, let alone flow into bedrooms. No floor rugs or carpet in any rooms meant it was noisy walking around during the night and cold on feet. Shower had a persistent leak due to failing tap washers. Stove exhaust had not been cleaned in a while. Cobwebs on windows.
