Guest Reviews
- wayne (8/5): - All ran as it should. It was quiet and comfy. It was as advertised which I really liked.
I slept well on a very good bed. Fire was a bit tricky which we worked out. The spa may be functioning a bit intermittently.
- Leo (8/5): Comfy old old time cottage, close walking distance to harbour boat cruises. - Lovely Spa bath, good lounge furniture. Front entrance lack of light in dark.
Worn out table scratched surface, ? new varnish.
Maybe some decorative cushions on the seat.
Mattress a bit too soft.
- Warren (7/5): - It was a great little cottage close to town (bit of a walk, but manageable.) However prior to our arrival we learnt that the heating (gas) was out of action. It was a cold night! Also we had trouble with the entrance door key. Both items were attended to during our stay - lock repaired; gas heater needed more work. Remote manager, Larissa did a great job of trying to rectify these problems. Cottage is well equipped with loads of cooking gear, comfortable for a couple with good bathroom. No tea bags, milk etc..
- Lyn (7/5): We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed our time. - Kitchen was well stocked and bed was comfortable. Washing machine and dryer were great as was the hot water. We had very cold weather and weren’t confident lighting the gas fire so we were cold. The outside bins were full so we couldn’t empty the rubbish.
- Kerry (9/5): Would stay again and recommend to friends - Very comfortable and charming. Perfect for the two of us Unfortunately the fire wasn’t working. But the heater did a great job!! We were never cold.
- Jo (8/5): Good location, old style charm - Quaint old style Tassie house with lovely surrounds
- Hosking (10/5): A wonderful Strahan West Coast experience! - A stunning little cottage with a great spa bath! Great washing facilities, confidante bed. No basic stuff like salt and pepper, I bought all this and left it behind. I've stayed at plenty of bnbs that have these staples. It just adhd to the cost. And no fire :-( had broken. But owner was very kind and reduced price a little because of it.
- John (9/5): The Cottage suited our needs & we were satisfied with the contact person and the location - The lighting on the entrance footpath
There was no hair dryer
- James (9/5): Very enjoyable - Location
- Judy (10/5): - Central location, easy walk to Cruise departure and shopping. Cosy and warm. Well equipped. 👍
- Anne (8/5): Lovely clean cottage - Whole cottage enabling us to self cater. Clean and well equipped Gas fireplace smoking and smelly so could only heat for 5 minutes then gas to turn off . Needs repair
- Gibson (10/5): Pleasant and relaxing in an awesome historic part of Tasmania. - The cottage was quaint and homey. Extremely comfortable all round and only a short distance from the main parts of Strahan. Really enjoyed the 2 nights we stayed there. Kitchen had everything we needed and the stay was extremely enjoyable. 1 white tail spider in the bathroom. Glad my wife didn't meet him.
- Mark (7/5): Needs a local property manager to fix the easy things to repair. - Quaint and interesting.
Good hot water.
Very clean. Gas heater emitted fumes and made us feel ill. Had to be turned off thus very cold.
Pillows need replacing. No coat hangers.
Several bulbs not working.
No electric blankets. No tissues. No hair dryer.
No salt or pepper.
Flyscreen door didn't work.
Needs path lighting.
Bath needs non slip matt.
- Patricia (9/5): -
- Murray (7/5): It was comfortable cosy and central... - It was a cosy little cottage... the fire was excellent,. Washing machine and dryer which was a bonus. There was no welcoming book on the cottage. Although the fire was excellent there were no instructions, only at the base of the fire and if you were physically challenged you could not read it...my husband worked it out. The towels need upgrading, they were too small and not absorbent. No top sheet on the bed just a doona.... there should be a rubber bath mat in the spa bath as the shower is over the bath, extremely slippery.
- Steve (8/5): Nice place for a short stay - Clean, bed comfortable. Cold only small electric heater. No Wifi
- Janis (10/5): Just what we was looking for - It was private clean tidy comfortable Front door key was a bit tricky but sorted it out
- Ian (7/5): - The old charm & spa bath The musty smell
- Laura (6/5): - The cottage was cute and cozy, set back off the road and relatively quiet. The bed and pillows could do with an update, the mattress was rock hard and the pillow smelt sweaty
- Zeta (5/5): Not what we were expecting as the photos made it look a lot nicer than it actually was. - It had a washing machine and dryer. It is quite run down and needs to be refurbished. 2 of the lights didn’t work, minimal power points, back patio was covered in leaves, garden looks neglected, musty odour inside. Towels were very small and thin, shower head needs to be replaced. Too many things to mention, but generally needs a spruce up. We were disappointed when we arrived but tried to make the best of the situation as there was nothing else available.
- John G05 (9/5): - Nice and quiet location, not too far to walk to the main street.
- Stephen (10/5): Beautiful cottage so comfortable, Strahan is beautiful - Very cosy and very neat, bed was so comfortable Just a couple of light glodes were gone, but that a very small thing didn’t spoil our time there
- Kerrie (9/5): Warm and cosy, relaxing stay. - Tramway cottage was clean and comfortable. Although the gas fire was difficult to light, it was very warm and cosy once lit. Well equipped and easy walk to shops and tourist attractions. We prefer a top sheet on the bed.
- Michelle (4/5): Sorry! But not for us. - The owner was genuinely helpful and responsive via text communication and the property was quite clean inside, which was appreciated. Unfortunately, this property has numerous maintenance and comfort issues.
The heating is problematic, with a faulty little fan heater and what's advertised as a "fireplace" being actually a gas heater that can't be left on overnight, leaving no adequate heating for cold weather. Additionally, the bedside light doesn't work and only one of four heat lamps in the bathroom is functional.
The property feels neglected both inside and out. There's a persistent musty, closed-up smell throughout, and the exterior looks quite run-down with an unkempt front and unusable backyard. The location can be difficult to find in the dark, surrounded by other unkempt properties.
Basic amenities are lacking - no spare towels (important since things don't dry properly), no information pack, laundry powder, or kitchen basics like salt, pepper, and oil (typical in other similarly rated accommodation we have used on AirBNB or Booking.com)
The bed urgently needs replacing and lacks a top sheet.
The front door lock is sticky - if you lock the door from the inside and remove the key - you may not be able to get it unlocked from the inside again.
The property simply isn't set up for comfort, particularly in colder weather, and feels more like an abandoned space than a welcoming accommodation.
- Vida (9/5): We loved our stay here. The spa bath was extra special. The bed comfy, the gas fire cosy and the water hot. A lovely lit - We loved the little cottage. Would have liked there to be some tissues and maybe full cream milk instead of soy. A soap dispenser in the shower would be nice.
- Cathie (10/5): -
- Jonathan (8/5): It was a comfortable cottage. Quiet location. Bring own toiletries and washing powder - Quiet and comfortable. Warm fire, comfortable bed.
- David (7/5): -
- Raelene (9/5): Cute, comfy and cosy cottage. - Gas fire was very warm, bath was great, water was hot, quiet and tranquil. No electric blanket
- Kaye (8/5): It was delightful we even had snow - The cottage was lovely The front steps and they need lights and the shower only because I’m on crutches and it was to hard to get in and out of
- Amanda (10/5): The only place I want to stay in Strahan - A beautiful little cottage in an excellent location. Very cosy with the fireplace on a cold night. The cottage had everything we needed and was very clean. Can’t wait to stay again!! Loved it all!
- Natalie (8/5): Really sweet, cozy little cottage for two people - Bed really could do with a new mattress.
- David (9/5): Perfect Base to Explore Strahan and Surrounds - Quaint, cosy cottage , with great amenities , Large kitchen with plenty of utensils for cooking, Nice hot Shower with plenty of water pressure, Comfortable lounge with gas fire, Very comfortable bed with plenty of bedding/blankets. Washing machine and Dryer.
Set in a quiet off street setting. Close to main supermarket and Strahan Wharf ( walking distance) Can be a bit hard to find if you arrive after sunset like I did. It's location is not that obvious. You will need to bring everything if you plan on self catering as there is nothing except for tea / coffee and sugar sachets.
If you rely on WIFI there is none. If you plan to do any washing you will need your own detergent.
These are not criticisms , its just some thing you will need to be aware of if you arrive late and everything is shut locally
- Renee (7/5): Cute & convenient , quirky but cold. - Cute Portable heater did not work. No instructions for gas heater. Signage for property was hard to see at night
- Jennifer (8/5): A cute little cottage just a short walk from shops and the cruise boats. - Great price and proximity to shops and local attractions.
- Crosbie (8/5): Very good - Lovely quaint cottage. Warm, comfortable and private.. Needs lighting out the front.
- Craig (8/5): This was our first time in Tasmania and can recommend Strahan for a short stay. - The property was about 10 min walk (2 min drive) from the township. There is an IGA and pharmacy on the way. We did the Gordon River wilderness tour which was excellent departing from the town dock. There's a pub, coffee shop and takeaways if required.
- Anonymous (7/5): Good - The location and cleanliness was fabulous., and we really liked the property but the bathroom basin was blocked so we didn't use it. We arrived in the dark and rain, and it was difficult to find the property. Lighting in the sign to driveway would be great, also lighting on the stairs into the property would be helpful. If we didn't use the torch on our phone it would have been a safety hazard. Also some instructions on how to use the gas fireplace. We come from. Brisbane and don't have gas fires. We did like the property and location though.
- Brenda (8/5): Cozy hideaway - Spacious and cosy. A little hard to find and know where to park.
- Deanna (2/5): Very poor -
- Mema (8/5): Overall very good. Some instructions on how to light the gas fire would be helpful. -
- Hessie (9/5): Quaint Cottage - Quaint, comfortable, clean, cosy cottage quite close to town. Had everything you would need. The furniture and bed were all clean and comfortable.
- Dianne (8/5): Cosy and comfortable cottage in a good location. - Good, quiet location and close to IGA. Cosy, comfortable cottage. Couldn't find the barbeque.
- Prue (10/5): A lovely cosy hidden homey experience & we would definitely recommend & return. - We loved the privacy, as its set back from the road. This cosy little cottage made us enjoy our Strahan experience even more. Everything was fully equipped and the water pressure & the backyard were added bonus’. Thanks for the great correspondence leading up to our visit. If we are to mention something that was a concern, it was only that we missed the street number when we arrived. This was not an issue at all, because doing a U-turn is part of the journey. It can be a conundrum… big signage means holiday makers are here, & minimal signage creates a hidden gem.
- Fs (3/5): Poor -
- Darryl (9/5): Superb -
- Jen (6/5): Pleasant - Location. Cute. Kitchen worked well
- Sheryn (8/5): Very good accommodation. - Hard to start gas fire.
Difficult to lock up the cottage.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Pleasant -
- David (9/5): Superb - The property was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay there.
- Amywisby (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, cute accommodation, had washing machine and dryer Tv reception hit and miss
- Dennis (6/5): Disappointed - Lounge room and fire No top sheet on bed, bedding smelt musty, no soap or shampoo etc, not overly clean, outside bin was full. Felt like we were staying in an abandoned house, overgrown yard.
- Steve (10/5): Thoroughly enjoyed our time there - Comfortable
Quiet
As described My only thought is that the knives needed to be sharper. Not really an issue.
- Jane (10/5): Thank you. Very easy to deal with the host and everything was very easy and comfortable. - The property is spacious and well equipped. The host was approachable with all information. It has character and is close to the town.
- Penelope (8/5): Very good -
- Michele (10/5): Exceptional -
- Geoff (8/5): Very good -
- Deborah (9/5): Superb -
- Fiona (7/5): Quaint bush cottage - The location is great. Lovely gas fire, which was definitely needed.
Extremely quiet.
The price was good value. Alittle lacking in the usual extra bits, eg, tissues, shower gel, only 3 rolls of toilet paper left, no spare rubbish bin liners. There was no spare tea towel.
Light globes blown, no spares. The outside lights not working.
It requires a new fry pan and spatula.
The back garden definitely needs to be cleaned up.
- Cilla (7/5): Good - Cleanliness and location Needs a bit of TLC, light globes, working fan heater.. garden tidy up. Would be nice if there was some shampoo, washer, shower soap and a sachet of laundry powder and instructions to light gas heater.
- Gordon (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lydia (7/5): A convenient base for exploring Strahan. - Walking distance to town (where I highly recommend you see the ‘Ship that never was’ show). Spacious, reasonably priced and nice spa-bath. Very rustic old cottage, quite dark. Not super-obvious to find.
- Samantha (9/5): Superb -
- Carly (10/5): Exceptional - Great little house with all the amenities, had a washing machine and dryer which was handy!! Just needed a clothes horse to dry my clothes
- Tony (6/5): In all it's comfortable & enjoyable! - Tastefully decorated & comfortable. Some larger & better towls would improve the shower/washing experience.
- Paul (8/5): Lovely little cottage. Well equipped. - Lovely cottage, all facilities good, contact with owner good. No instructions for the heater. Needs a rug on the floor in the lounge, as it was very cold. Gardens unkempt.
- Adam (8/5): Very good -
- Suzanne (7/5): Good - Nestled away, but close to town. Offstreet parking. The fireplace was very helpful because it was cold and raining during our stay. There was a lack of basic supplies, such as tissues, paper towel, salt/pepper. There was also no drying rack for clothes so we had to use the dryer.
- Jorge (9/5): Superb -
- Kerry (9/5): Nice comfortable old world feel at the Tramway Cottage. Would stay there again. - Well appointed.
Lovely old world cottage
Comfortable bed A bit far and steep for walking to the township for me. We had a car and that made getting around easy. The town wasn’t busy, so parking was not a problem.
I’ll just mention that the towels smelt a bit musty. Possibly they were put away damp or left in the dryer.
That was just a small issue, everything else was really good.
Thank you.
- Gregory (8/5): Would recommend this stay to anyone - Quiet tranquil setting Nothing
- Norman (9/5): Superb -
- Kay (7/5): Good - The interior cottage was delightful and cosy, gas cook top and heater was really good, free range eggs and sourdough across road was great as well as IGA supermarket walking distance. Quiet location The outdoors was very tired and unwelcoming, the other cottages seem to be abandoned
- Wendy (9/5): Superb -
- Britton (7/5): Good -
- Annette (9/5): Superb - Cottage was close to town centre and IGA. Was very spacious and spa was great. Advertises a BBQ which is covered in rust. Towels were hard and smelly. We rewashed them, they softened but still a bit smelly. But at least they were clean. Needs work done on outside as quite run down.
- Brian (1/5): Tramway Cottage Strahan Tasmania - The inside was reasonably appointed. Clean with a country style decor. Done very cheaply. Interior had a musty smell. Many lights didn't work. Gas heater, although efficient was difficult to light. There were no instructions or information about the cottage and its facilities. The exterior is a disgrace, back verandah dirty, bbq rusty and unusable. Garden and surrounds a disgrace. Other similar cottages in the same property were completely neglected and overgrown by blackberries and unkempt vegetation. Rubbish bins had not been emptied. Very disappointed and a complete rip off. The owner needs to come down from Sydney and attend to her property. $450 for 3 nights is robbery. WE WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE SOME COMPENSATION FOR THIS VERY POOR STAY. Would have cancelled and found other accommodation but time did not allow.
Very sorry that it turned out this way
- Susan (3/5): Poor - Relatively comfortable cottage and had everything we needed The location. It is surrounded by derelict buildings and overgrown scruffy gardens.
It was 3 degrees and we couldn't get the gas fire working in the morning, even though we'd had it eorking well the night before. No instructions and hard to use.
We noted light bulbs still not working from previous post.
- Peter (10/5): Great spot to stay in, bed was comfortable as were all the other aspects of the cottage - Comfortable and clean, spa bath was great Back garden could do with TLC
- Graham (8/5): Very good -
- Kristy (8/5): Quiet and simple house - Property is quiet and tranquil but centrally located No basics like sauce, oil or salt and pepper kept here make sure you bring your own or buy some
- Kent (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rosslyn (10/5): Close to town, convenient, and welcoming. - I loved the cottage, so homely warm and inviting. Had everything you needed and more, the Spa was a hit, as were the washing machine and dryer. I had trouble lighting the fire, so contacted the owner, my call was returned straight away and problem fixed. Would highly recommend this cottage for short term or even a long stay. Nothing.
- Jamie (7/5): Good -
- Lynette (8/5): Very good - The nice warm gas fire once we worked out how to turn it on Very dark and cold and the outside grounds overgrown
- Karen (7/5): It was just okay - Gas fire heater in lounge room. Lack of power points in the bedroom, no electric blanket, very musky smell from all the dampness.
- Sandra (10/5): Exceptional - The heating is a great and washing machine and dryer.
Location quiet.
Will recommend to friends and family.
Beautiful location
Lovely rooms felt at home.
Great cooking facilities The window near the toilet due to rain leaks and made the floor wet .
The shower could do with a Hans rail to make safer to use.
Maybe a bigger sign out the of the lane to find the unit.
One of the steps is a tripping hazard due to some of the wire loose.
One of the bedroom globs is gone, and one in the bathroom .
Not able to use BBQ to dirty.
- Angelo (7/5): Cute, Rustic cottage - The cottage is very rustic but feels a little neglected. We did come in after a lot of wild weather so the back verandah and yard were not at their best. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, crockery etc. The cottage is presented at its most basic I think, just lacking a few homely touches. I feel that the shower over the large spa bath might be a safety issue for some people. There was no guest book or information folder available, especially for those of us unfamiliar with gas lit fires needing some guidance! For us the location of the cottage was a little too isolated.. Entry is down a laneway in a little cul de sac. There needs to be some kind of light or marker at the driveway entrance for safe access at night.
- Katherine (9/5): Superb - We had a great stay at Tramway Cottage - lovely comfortable cottage with a gas fireplace to keep you snug in winter!
- Kerry (8/5): Enjoyed the location it was very close to the natural sites we wanted to visit. - Very cosy and warm, everything we needed was available.
- Vernon (8/5): Very good - We liked the position as it was very quiet. Once we worked out the heater, it was very warm and cosy. There was an abundance of hot water and everything you needed for a long stay. Having a washing machine and dryer was an added advantage. It's a bit dangerous when you come in at night as the path is not lit and has a few steps to negotiate. Being wet when we were there made it a bit slippery, but the mesh on top helped with that. The heating light in the bathroom was missing some bulbs, so it didn't work as effectively as it should have.
- David (7/5): Good - Clean and comfortable. Everything you need for a few nights stay. Needs some work, particularly exterior. Interesting property it's part of, but I understand the other cottages are owned by other disinterested parties. It's good value for the area it's in but by no means is it fancy accommodation.
- Sirpa (10/5): A very comfortable, private and quiet .. -
- Dennis (9/5): Excellent - Bed needs replacing.
- Roger (9/5): Great -
- Ian (6/5): Pleasant - TV not working. Bed needed a topper on the mattress as you could feel the springs. Electric blanket would be good and a bulb in one of the bedside lights.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - This is a beautiful little cottage.
It has all the charm and comforts that you require.
The location was perfect and the fire place was spectacular.
Thanks for a great 2 night stay.
- Ann (9/5): Warm and cosy cottage a short drive from Strahan Village - Very cosy with all necessary requirements for a comfortable stay Surrounding buildings and vegetation was very unkempt
- Tipple (10/5): very comfortable. thank you - Very comfortable and well equipped Some instructions for the heater would have been useful.
- Roberts (8/5): Very good - Old world charm
