Guest Reviews
- Katie (10/5): -
- Roz (10/5): Fantastic -
- Kay (8/5): Comfortable and warm - Lovely gas heating made it very snug, as weather was chilly. Beds comfortable, secure parking. Plentiful facilities. Indoor lighting not brilliant. A couple of lamps would help.
- Troy (10/5): -
- Angela (7/5): We kept very warm on a cold weekend, easy to use facilities and cozy decor. - We loved the small and cozy feel of the accommodation. We appreciated not having WIFI and other modern tech distractions. It was very private and suitable for our weekend stay allowing us to prepare and cook food, and use the laundry facilities.
- Fran (9/5): Loved the atmosphere and spaciousness - Beautiful setting in quiet area - clan and spacious-great yard for pets , lovely Easter welcome package. A home away from home. Great heating and cooling options . Very aesthetically pleasing too! Close to Ballarat activities and town centre. A little difficult for 3 adults to lounge comfortably in the living room . 1 super comfy extra armchair and foot stool would be great!
- Jenny (5/5): Needs a clean , needs maintenance - Cosy Oven dirty , hot plates not in good order
Crockery some pieces chipped
2 upstairs bedroom , no dividing walls , no privacy
Upstairs dusty
4 people , 5 days .. lack of towels
Toilet paper got 4 people , 5 days .. lousy ..
- Jennifer (10/5): - Layout, location
- woodthorpe (8/5): Nice little house - Cosy little home, well appointed kitchen, nice quiet BBQ area. The shower was very dated, altho clean from what we could see. Lighting in the shower was inadequate.
A note re upstairs bedrooms would be they are open plan, no wall between them. This didn't bother us but 2 x couples who book the accomodation might find this a problem.
- Sharo (9/5): -
- Robbie (8/5): -
- Kellee (8/5): Lovely spot for a get away with everything you need. - Peaceful location with lovely gardens to relax in. Driveway was a little difficult to navigate.
- Tania (8/5): -
- Klopak (9/5): - A natural hideaway with all things green outside and stone and wood indoors. Truly, a relaxing environment.
- Natakers (9/5): Relaxing and enjoyable - A lovely, quiet property
Good prompt communication from the owner
Loved the house information and travel brochures Upstairs bedrooms had open floor plan with minimal privacy which was fine for a few days but perhaps not ideal for longer stays.
- Brian (9/5): It was most relaxing with everything on hand necessary to facilitate an enjoyable stay. - The property was most comfortable with all the amenities on hand. I cannot think of a negative response.
- Joanna (10/5): -
- Iain (5/5): Pretty property needing work to be comfortable - It is a beautiful house that is presented well. In a nice and convenient location.
A nice log fire and cosy feel to the property. We slept poorly both nights. The property has issues with heating and lighting that made it uncomfortable for the upstairs bedroom on a cold weekend. Whilst nice that there is warm heating in winter, we woke up overheated from the way the downstairs heater thermostat on a cold day means it ends up super hot upstairs. We did our best to resolve this but would have preferred to have slept much better.
There is some lighting for stairs at night but it is very dim, and main room light switches are all downstairs only. This makes getting down the stairs quite hazardous. Having a light switch for the main room light wired to the upstairs bedroom would help solve this.
There is one shower (downstairs) that is dimly lit as it is in a nook that gets minimal light. Water pressure is low.
We found the mattress too hard for comfortable sleep.
Having a power point on both sides of the main bed (instead of the internet router) would also be nice for phone charging and a light.
Some of these issues have been mentioned in other reviews. If the hosts were to resolve them it would make the place a nice property to stay in.
The male host was unnecessarily rude to my wife in front of our young child when we where rushing to pack up 5 minutes after the 10am checkout because he had scheduled the cleaner for 10am. We would've happily let the cleaner in whilst packing up but instead he issued unnecessary demands. This is the first time we have encountered such behaviour from a property owner.
Also, we did open the upstairs door to cool the area down as the property owner suggested, despite it raining heavily. We had to go searching for the key in the middle of the night as it was not in the door (where should have been) but instead on a keyring.
- Bianca (9/5): - Loved the look of the place in amongst the beautiful garden. It was warm and inviting. The beds were a bit firm for me. my daughter would've liked if there was Netflix and Disney available on the TV
- Jun (10/5): - The location None
- Trantino (5/5): Won’t be going back - The garden The house did not provide adequate lighting and so very hard to put make up on in bathrooms . There was no dishwasher and the heater did not work and reversible air conditioner was not powerful enough to heat property .
The two double beds upstairs have no privacy being open to both parties thus you can see what either party is doing and you can hear each others eg snoring
- Alicia (8/5): The cottage is a great space and very comfortable. Yard is a good place to explore for kids. - The cottage is very cosy and cute, lots of space for family and the kids enjoyed the yard. The beds were comfortable, and kitchen had all the basic things you would expect. The kitchen items - plates, utensils etc could have been cleaner. Earlier notice of check-in procedure would have been helpful (ie: at the 24 hour mark)
- Kimberley (10/5): Good location, good price comfy beds - No locks on toilets
- Tanwen (8/5): -
- Helen (5/5): - Location was good for our function. Would be lovely in summer to enjoy the garden. Only 1 full bathroom, so adult 3 females was our limit. The stairs dangerous at night. Upstairs open to downstairs living, so no privacy. Most lighting too dim.
- Sumesh (9/5): -
- Williams (10/5): -
- Annamika (8/5): Great little place! :) - Very pretty, simple to organise, owners were lovely and efficient. A little cold and some wonky facilities like shower pressure & toilet seat.
- Kathleen (8/5): Enjoyed our time in house and Ballarat - Not supplied A hand rail down the steps especially for wet slippery weather and older people
- Jenny (9/5): -
- Karen (8/5): Gorgeous setting around house - Clean accommodation. Unique layout of house, with lots of character. Beautiful timber interiors and sandstone fireplace visible from the upstairs open-plan spacious attic/loft areas and part of downstairs. The upstairs area consisted of an open-plan retreat which could be used as a bedroom area with a sofa bed, and another open plan master bedroom area with an enormous ensuite toilet and sink. Useful having lots of shelves in the fully self-contained kitchen as well as inside the walk-in pantry. The house is in the suburbs yet you feel like you are in the middle of secluded bushlands due to the gorgeous grounds surrounding the house at the top of a quite long driveway complete with gate and fence. A minor issue, it was a little difficult to balance the right temperature for all bedroom areas, i.e. the heater was very effective in warming the upstairs but not the downstairs bedroom, the upstairs became too warm when the heater was turned up higher to warm the downstairs bedroom. The lighting especially in the dining area was a little dim and slightly inadequate. There is a step between the dining area and the kitchen, which have to be careful with at night.
- kati (10/5): - Very cozy, fire place works, good location, quiet and private. The stovetop was a bit old, one of it wasn’t working properly
- G Stewart (9/5): Great place to stay especially in winter where it felt like a european snow lodge thats toasty warm. - Great setting and the forest around the building made it feel like you were in the country. The mezzanine for bedrooms whilst a bit open for some of the people was great made a smallish space feel large and grand. Mainly the shower need to be brought up to scratch as it was quite vulnerable to water being used in kitchen. Only other issue was the heating was too effective for the mezzanine beds but not at all effective for the bedroom downstairs which was too cold whilst the upstairs was too warm. A small heater in the bedroom would have meant we could have shut down to minimum the main heater but kept the downstairs bedroom warm. Minor quirk due to the structure of the house otherwise was excellent.
- Maddie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tamara (8/5): Very good -
- Cathryn (9/5): Superb -
- Mike (8/5): very good accomadation. excellent value - none fireplace does not give off enough heat due to original poor design & construction . replace with a wood burning Kent or similar firebox brand
- Helen (10/5): Fantastic cosy cottage - The house was spacious and well appointed. Very cosy and homely in the autumnal weather. We felt very relaxed while there. Perfect location for a quiet stay, but close enough to all shops and attractions.
- David (7/5): Good - There is a lot to like about this place. It is spacious, well heated and well provisioned. The garden is lush. Maybe I didn’t read carefully enough, but I thought there were two bathrooms, but there was only one (there are two toilets). I also didn’t realise that the second bedroom contained only two single beds. The place is very dark, due to overhanging trees in the daytime and inadequate lighting at night.
- Brian (7/5): Good -
- Carrie (10/5): Stunning gardens. Cosy cabin feels. - Stunning gardens. Cosy and comfortable.
- Marselles (10/5): Amazing - Amazing Home, super comfortable and most definitely would book again Garden could do with a tidy up
- Brooke (9/5): Cosy cottage in a quiet street outside of the town centre. Easy check in and check out process. Contained everything we -
- Melanie (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful home, location and homely touches. Beautifully furnished and exceptional communication from the host. N/A
- Samantha (10/5): Definitely five stars - Absolutely loved everything about the property
- Jenny (9/5): Lovely retreat - Quaint cottage and gardens
- Alison (8/5): Very good -
- Noelene (10/5): Exceptional -
- Frederick (7/5): Good - Good location, keys were left in the post box for us The garden was very much in need of attention and was very overgrown. getting up and down the driveway was not as easy as it looked due to the slight curve at the gate.
- Jane (8/5): Very good -
- Neil (8/5): Very good -
- Eve (10/5): A weekend getaway and this place was perfect for it! - The property is beautiful. It’s in the suburbs yet you feel like your by yourself as the property is surrounded by a beautiful garden/trees.
- Vicki-marie (10/5): Aussie road trip 😊 - Very relaxing 😊Beautiful home. Had Everything we needed.
Very helpful.
- Johanna (9/5): Quiet and clean! - Always nice to stay here! Location is quiet. Don't feel overlooked at all. Hosts are great, really responsive to messages. House is really clean, in particular the kitchen. Area is nice to go for walks. Plenty of parks/shops/restaurants in short drive. Would stay again
- Howard (9/5): Superb - Nice and quiet area, not far from everything. House was comfortable. Had everything we needed. Our grandsons loved the loft area and the yard. Sofa was a bit low for us.
- Rana (9/5): Superb -
- Resha (8/5): Cosy place - nice cosy house. wasn't well looked after. ceilings had cobwebs. outdoor seating wasn't clean. the gardens outside weren't maintained well. there was no dishwashing liquid.
- Jacquie (8/5): Very good -
- Beth (8/5): A nice place for a family stay - The location was great, felt secluded even though in the suburbs. The shower set up wasn’t great. The mat used as anti slip is an entrance mat and very hard on bare feet.
- Bernadette (9/5): Very welcoming ambience and thoughtful touches - It was seamless from booking, checking in and checking out. Beautiful vibe for relaxation.
- Rumana (9/5): Wonderful - Excellent location, excellent outlook and interior - you feel like you are in the middle of a calm and quiet green lush....the woods, stones all were good Wifi password given without wifi login...tried all the available networks with that password, none of them worked..had to use mobile hotspots for two days to my office works
- Tracey (10/5): Fantastic last minute escape - Oh the gardens and the beds!! My kids & I slept in every bed (sorry to the hosts). We also loved the open fire, it's not often U get to sit for a few hours with a 14 & 12yr old. Thank U to the hosts for a wonderful last minute getaway That we had to leave!
- Andy (10/5): Fantastic location and facilities - we’ll be back! -
- Kristen (10/5): A getaway retreat with the family. Snuggled up by the fireplace, looking out on greenery. Heaven! - We loved everything! It was such a beautiful retreat and just what we needed. Would definitely go back again. The whole family loved the stay and time away together. Felt like nobody was around us!
- Kristian (8/5): Very good - Location. The gardens are beautiful. Well equipped. Comfortable. Country feel. The property was great. It was a little noisy at times with what I think were possums? In the roof. Particularly at night.
- Julie (8/5): Very good -
- Lynette (8/5): Great holiday home, but it needs some TLC - Great location, open holiday home with a good feel. Lovely gardens, even though needing some attention. We had an awesome time there. Soda beds upstairs & downstairs need attention - not comfortable at all. More lighting is required throughout the house, especially over the table & in the kitchen, plus no exhaust fan over stove. Could do with a good thorough clean throughout house.
- Mara (10/5): Will definitely recommend it to friends and l would also stay again. - Loved the home style and decor. The street is a bit noisy and no shower upstairs.
- Karlee (5/5): Passable - N/a
- Trish (6/5): Beautiful garden, very picturesque cottage. The split levels tripped me up a few times. - The garden Lots of tripping hazards and it smelt funny.
- Jo (7/5): Good - The house is in great location and the garden are lush and private. There was no street noise. Beds were great and the whole place is warm and cosy. Needs a little maintenance. Outdoor steps were slippery and BBQ not clean. Not really suitable for older people as internal steps are narrow. None of it was a huge problem and we enjoyed our stay.
- Warren (9/5): Superb - Gorgeous spot and owners thought of everything!
Very cosy, great fire, gorgeous garden and grounds. Multi-level probably not suited to mobility impaired or young children. But we loved everything! Light switches were tricky to fin.
- Rebecca (10/5): Perfect for our family for a couple of days. - The property is very private and close to the heart of Ballarat. The gardens are gorgeous and the house is beautifully furnished. It was a lovely place to stay.
- Agisilaos (7/5): Good -
- Sheila (9/5): Had a restful stay and look fwd to staying again. - Brought all our own food, drinks. Good kitchen facilities.
Conveniently located to access all tourist spots around Ballarat.
- Wai (9/5): Excellent property that needs a little maintenance. - Very cosy place. Lovely and well thought of. Love the layout, ambience. Sound system accepts bluetooth. Very very cosy. Kitchen is very functional. Love the place very much it's sad to leave. A little bit overgrown. Heat distribution could improve a little. Gets a little warm upstairs but rooms downstairs didnt receive as much heat. Maybe a small portable heater in the room might help.
There was a little part of the staple on the front door mat that was exposed causing a minor tear on the toe. A little inspection and fixing will help.
- Kymberly (8/5): Would definitely stay again. Next time longer :) - Really cute little place. Perfect for what we needed and nice and close to where we needed to be. Open fire was a hit. The kids loved the loft bedroom. Had to wash cups and plates, etc before we used them as some were little dirty but that would be from previous guests not cleaning up after themselves properly.
- Lesley (8/5): Had a wonderful time in this delightful setting. - The house was beautiful and the gardens a delight! There was everything that we wanted or needed! 😊 We were hoping for three bedrooms but one was more of a parent’s retreat couch.
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wie (9/5): Superb -
- Ron (9/5): A great place to stay - The Stonehenge Retreat Was ideal for us, with a private bedroom downstairs and open upstairs areas, one with a double bed, the other with a bed-settee. It is a spacious comfortable home from home. The extensive trees and bushes give a sense of seclusion and privacy however they could do with some trimming to stop branches from making noises hitting the house. The well equipped kitchen is great and could be used to for preparing full family meals, not just the breakfasts that we needed it for. Really a great place to stay and I have no hesitation in recommending. The trees could do with trimming - noises in the night unnerved one of the ladies. Decking around front and side gets a little slippy when wet.
- Pearly (8/5): Nice and pleasant stay. Everyone loved it including the dog, he loved exploring all the place. - The entrance felt grand like going to an unknown. It was in a suburb, but it didn't feel that way, it felt very secluded and feel like it was somewhere else. There was no shortage of space to wonder and sit. Felt homey and nice. The garden could be tidied up bit, there was a pond with stagnate water which breed mosquitoes. The light was very dim could be brighter with lights more strategically placed and more powerful wattage.
- Ann (10/5): We all loved the stay at Stonehenge , it was peaceful, cosy, relaxing , close to town centre and hosts were very prompt - Cosy and relaxing and a fantastic location. Everything was perfect
- Mirko (6/5): Pleasant - big house, price was reasonable, good kitchen the facility is a bit old and it was cold.
The sofa bed was practically not usable for two because of a very old mattress.
only one shower forced us to take turns.
- Nicole (10/5): Tranquil, relaxing, beautiful home away from home - This property is gorgeous, neatly tucked away from the street so you feel so alone.
From when we drove into the driveway to opening the door and entering it blow us all away!
From the gardens to the little details inside the home makes it all feel like a home away from home!!
We were so blown away and wished we stayed longer! The only thing I didn’t like is that I wasn’t there longer
- Mcdonald (10/5): Lovely place, excellent hosts!! - Enjoyed the open floor plan. There are no lights on the stairs to see down at night.
Slipped multiple times on last 3 steps.
- Amy (9/5): Superb - The cabin was very beautiful we enjoyed our stay very much The Queen bed was very firm. A bit to firm. Otherwise all was good
- Danielle (9/5): Beautiful home away from home - It's so cosy! Feels very private. Had everything you need. We stayed with our kids for Christmas and were delighted that the owner had put Christmas decorations up for us. By the end of 5 days it felt a little bit dark to me. I would have liked to be able to turn on a few more lights.
There are some changes in floor level that might cause concern for young or old people unstable in their feet.
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Esther (8/5): Beautiful garden. - Lovely garden and ambience.
Good shower . Comfortable bed. Confusing light switches maybe helpful to label them.
- Virginia (5/5): Private and Quiet - Private and quiet. Would be ok for 1 couple. Lacking attention to detail. Not really suitable for 2 couples. Only 1 shower.
Yard and outside seating needed a tidy up.
- Jane (10/5): We loved our stay!! - The gardens were spectacular, such a nice warm feeling at the place. Styled lovely. A little more crockery and utensils could have been handy.
My elderly father struggles with mobility & was a bit of a worry with the step at the bathroom & into the dining area, perhaps a rail could be considered for safety.
- Marcus (9/5): Very comfortable. - Spacious, and warm when it was cold outside. Good kitchen and bathroom. Very secluded so felt secure. Appreciate the firewood!
- Karin (9/5): Superb -
- Tamara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Craig (8/5): Very good -
- Jade (8/5): Relaxing, cozy, great location - Loved the location and the surroundings Maybe some shampoo/conditioner but only because we forgot our own :-)
- Donna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Debra (10/5): Brilliant cozy retreat! Super comfy! - This place is amazing, the property is huge with a number of outdoor areas Nothing
- Michele (9/5): Superb - Tripped a few times going from the dining area to the kitchen . Kept forgetting about the step.
