Guest Reviews
- Kym (9/5): If we had known how good it was we would have planned a longer stay because of closeness to Mt Field National Park, New - Loved the size, perfect for family or three couples as each bedroom had own bathroom. Also great just for a couple, loads of room Would have liked a tumble dryer
- Bruce (8/5): - The converted church was extremely spacious and very well designed and equipped with many relaxation zones, and quirky/historical features. A very novel accommodation experience ideally a short hop to Hobart airport upon checkout. It is a small town with one pub hotel (next door to the property) with typical pub fair. The host failed to give us the correct code in the check in instructions on the day of arrival for the lockbox which delayed our entry for 20 minutes. Unfortunately the beds in the two main bedrooms were super soft and lumpy. Just remember there are no supermarkets or local shops in this town so you need to bring your own supplies.
- Guy (10/5): Great - Nice place to stay Insects in the bed
- Debra (10/5): Wonderful accommodation and a wonderful experience! -
- Brian (10/5): -
- Robyn (8/5): Lovely unique accomodation that is terrific for a group of friends or family. - Unique accomodation in a quiet little town. The place could use a solid deep clean - there’s a leak under the sink, sticky floors and noticeable bug remains around.
- Sophie (10/5): - Beautiful comfortable home
- Charlie (10/5): - We stayed one night, and it was great. The beds were comfortable. We all slept very well. The kitchen was very well equipped. Would recommend staying at Tassie Church to anyone excellent.
- Carolyn (10/5): Great and unique stay - Unique opportunity to stay in a church. Cobwebs in a number of locations.
- matthew (8/5): - Unique setting with comfortable and very relaxed feeling.
- Ian (9/5): -
- Ann (9/5): - Unique property, a renovated church with a lot remnants of the church which made it very interesting. The openness was surprisingly very cozy and having small extra features such as heated floors in the bathrooms. The pub next door was very welcoming and the food was great. Check in process straightforward Small hiccup at check in that was quickly addressed by the owner. Issues with internet log on but tv’s worked great and loved the picture frame tv!
- Thomas (10/5): - Das anstehende Problem wurde schnell gelöst
- Agnes (6/5): - Very spacious and the decor is great.
Bed was confortable.
Parking on site. Key was not left in the keybox as the email said it would. Tried calling the number in the email but no pickup or call back since. Very poor welcoming. Lucky a man at the other building had a spare key but he wasnt advised of our stay either.
Fridge was full of leftover food..
- Amna Leslie (10/5): Our stay was perfect. Beautiful home and the beds were very comfortable. Great coffee machine, lovely teas, sugar and be - Absolutely loved everything about the church Nothing
- Lucy (10/5): Exceptional stay in a beautifully restored church - A Tassie Church has been beautifully restored and renovated into a calm, luxurious, and truly stunning place to stay. The space is incredibly comfortable, with very thoughtful touches throughout that really elevate the experience. It felt like a sanctuary to get ready at before a nearby wedding. All of three bedrooms were extremely comfortable, and the church itself is a special and serene place to spend time.
We would highly recommend cooking at the church, as dining options in Kempton are limited, and the kitchen is very well equipped.
Melissa was really helpful for all our needs - including ensuring we had a washer, dryer and iron for our clothes, and helping us with an early check in and late check out.
Just note that there are three bedrooms inside the church itself, and the fourth separate bedroom needs to be specifically requested. There is also a mezzanine with a trundle bed, which we set up ourselves due to a small miscommunication. Overall, a wonderful stay that we would happily recommend to all!
- Wendy (9/5): What a wonderful unique opportunity - This is such an enchanting property. Placed so wonderfully
In a small country town so close to many things to go and see Nothing!!!
- jieun (10/5): Awesome place with an unforgettable experience. - It was an incredible place and gave us an unforgettable experience.
We were very lucky to be able to stay here on Christmas Eve, which made the experience even more special.
It feels like a hidden gem that you almost want to keep to yourself.
Although we came all the way from Korea, this place alone makes us want to return to Tasmania again in the future.
- Julie (10/5): Fell in love with this place - hard to leave! - This place has unique, authentic wow factor!
The living areas are super spacious. The interior is beautifully presented and full of interesting furnishings and decor. I loved the stained glass windows and vaulted ceilings.
We splashed out on this accommodation; it was well above the nightly rate we'd usually pay. But it was a fantastic, memorable way to end our family road trip through Tasmania.
It was hard to leave, and I really wish we could have stayed longer. Easy drive to Hobart Airport. There were very limited dinner dining options nearby. (And the tavern next door doesn't serve meals on Mondays.)
However, it prompted us to find the best IGA store we'd seen in Tasmania - at Brighton. Was great to dine in at home instead.
- Carly (10/5): - Beautifully presented accommodation. Clean, spacious, everything we needed was there.
- Kelly (10/5): Heavenly stay! - Everything! The space is stunning. The decorations and furniture. The beds are super comfy. The kitchen is completely equipped. Each bedroom has its own lovely bathroom. It’s quiet. We couldn’t stop taking photos of the stain glass windows as the sun was setting.
- Karen (8/5): Lovely converted church - Lovely property and gardens. Comfy beds and everything you would need for a short stay.
A short walk to the pub next door for a wonderful meal Bedrooms are small and wardrobes were full of pillows, cushions and blankets. No where to put our own clothes, suitcases etc.
- Deborah (9/5): Amazing opportunity to stay in iconic historic church. - We felt very privileged to stay in this beautiful venue and would like to thank Melanie for her efforts in creating such a memorable experience. Walking distance to pub for a lovely evening meal. The mattress’s could be updated.
- Mary (10/5): Very quaint and different place to stay . Loved it. - The building being an old church was fun to stay in. Melanie was lovely to deal with. It was very relaxing but close enough to easily go to other places for day trips .
- Amanda (7/5): -
- Oz (10/5): - A fantastic stay! Awesome place, nicely decorated and considerate touches. Highly recommended! The only thing is there isn't much to do in town. Tavern next door is very convenient.
- Charles (10/5): Exceptional -
- Di (9/5): Superb -
- Kylie (9/5): Great stay, surprise around every corner - Unique, quirky and comfy
- Katrina (10/5): Open space luxury, unique perfection. - Ambiance, perfection, peaceful space, quirky, eccentric, beautiful.
- Elise (10/5): Exceptional -
- Donald (8/5): Great place to stay with many wonderful features. - It was very interesting staying in this old church. The conversion was lovely.
- Chris (9/5): Excellent feel to the whole building, both inside and out. Very quiet and peaceful. - The furnishings matched the age of the church perfectly.
The 2 added bedrooms, despite being more modern were tastefully built to match the original era.
- Gillian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Glenda (9/5): Superb - Was originally intending to stay only one night but decided on two nights instead. Glad that we did because it gave us time to soak up all the little things that make this such a treat. From the stained glass windows and the eclectic furniture and fittings, it is worth sitting back and enjoying the unique atmosphere. The TV lounge area is located "upstairs" above one of the bedrooms created from within the huge space that was once filled with the congregational pews. As such it was uncomfortably warm in mid summer even though the A/C is very efficient at cooling the downstairs area. High ceiling fans helped distrubute the cooling somewhat but I suspect that the winter experience up there would be better than a mid summer one. But who goes to church to watch TV anyway? Overall we loved the experience.
- Dale (8/5): Pleasant, private and quirky. - Quirky, plenty of room, quiet Could do with spring clean. Cob webs and higher levels full of dust. Less Knick knacks would help keep dust down.
- Roshni (9/5): Superb - Excellent place
- Matt (9/5): Unique and impressive homestay - A truly impressive and unique property created with love and attention. The use of space and features created a cosiness in the vast hall.
Kitchen, lounge areas etc all well kitted out. No curtains in bedrooms or ways to block light. Understandable, given the beauty and size of the stained glass, but not something we'd thought of.
- Tim (10/5): A wonderful overnight retreat in a quiet town with great pub food next door - A beautiful accommodation venue that has been renovated to a high standard. Whilst we only stayed for one night it was very relaxing in a quiet town with a pub that serves tasty meals right next door. The beds were comfortable, and the lounge area was such a lovely place to unwind. Nothing
- Bruce (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tamika (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natasha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fraser (10/5): Amazing unique experience - The converted church was one of the most unique places that we have ever stayed. It has been updated beautifully and is also very well equipped with everything that you need.We wished we had booked in for longer. Everything about the property was great. Kempton itself doesn't have that much on offer but there is a distillery but we didn't have time to visit unfortunately.
- Kerry (10/5): Summer in Kempton - An amazing conversion that retains the character and atmosphere of the church yet is cleverly re-imagined. A peaceful haven and welcoming to our furbaby. Our second visit and we hope to come again. The pub next door doesn't cater to vegetarians
- Suzanne (10/5): Exceptional - Uniqueness, beautiful stained glass window. Very clean and comfortable. Only stay a night but loved it. Not being able to get food around the area
- Andrew (9/5): Beautiful church conversion, very comfortable -
- Tony (9/5): Superb -
- Rebecca (9/5): Gorgeous church retrear - This place is gorgeous and incredibly comfortable. We loved it and wished we had booked it for longer! No down side but would suggest a stop at the supermarket on the way to self cater.
- Ben (9/5): A MUST do experience if you’re in the area! Great layout and super comfy. Really compliments the colonial theme of the a - Such a unique experience. Having a whole church to yourself! Great layout with all the comforts of home and more. Also, Cheryl, Leanne and the lovely ladies from the pub next door making great comfort food for all:) The towels were a bit musty and the washing machine needs a clean. Easy fix.
Other than that it was wonderful!
- Barbara (9/5): Fantastic couches that hugs you when you sit down - The couches were the most comfortable we had come across in our travels. Loved the fire place and just the general layout of the living rooms. And of course the heated bathroom floors were a welcomed luxury.
- Alison (10/5): Exceptional - A whole church to yourself! Stained glass windows, a piano, electric blankets, log fire and lots of room. Traditional furniture, very comfortable. Fully kitted out. You can even ring the church bell!
- Shayne1975 (10/5): Excellent -
- Kelly (10/5): This is such a special iconic place to stay with all the comforts that you need - What an amazing place to stay!! The pictures don’t do it justice !! - just wow Absolutely nothing
- Leesa (9/5): Superb - Loved our stay, it has everything you need plus more! Wished the fire place was on when we arrived as it was freezing, it took a while to heat up
Hence not the 10 /10 rating
- Susan (9/5): Charming stay for a group - Beautiful, spacious, comfortable, charming Cold inside and took a long time to warm up.
- Beccy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robyn (10/5): Great Space Close to Hobart - Bedrooms had such lovely linen and were so comfortable. Modern bathrooms with plenty of space.
The living areas were very spacious but also cosy and comfortable.
Lovely wood fire and electric heating too.
Really well equipped kitchen that was easy to use and spacious.
Gorgeous grounds, easy access.
Only 45 minutes from Hobart, great location to travel onwards to the Midlands and Launceston. Central enough for travel to anywhere.
Excellent space for 3 travellers, each with own bedroom and bathroom.
We would definitely stay again.
- Gabrielle (8/5): A unique and gorgeous property in a peaceful town setting. - Beautifully renovated and furnished, it was cosy and comfortable. Owner very responsive to queries. In the cold weather, a couple of key things weren’t working: two electric blankets and a bedroom wall heater. The wood heater was also surprisingly challenging to get going and not smoke out the place, but was great once it finally fired up! And despite instructions, the coffee machine had me stumped.
- Chris (9/5): Superb - The novelty of staying in a church. Comfortable bed, warm slow combustion fire. Electric blanket didnt work, oven and rangehood didnt work either. Otherwise all good.
- Veena (7/5): Host was good. But we had no milk and the heating was not adequate in the living room . It was cold - The building and the furniture It was too cold. There was no milk in the fridge and no shops or coffee shops nearby
- Tim (8/5): Very good -
- Thea (8/5): Beautiful building - Very impressive accommodation Not much at Kempton for meals if staying on nights when the pub restaurant is closed
- Alison (10/5): Superb - Fabulous place with 3 bedrooms & 3 ensuites. A very nice little town with a great roast at the next door pub. Loved it
- Janis (9/5): Wonderful experience staying in church - Loved our stay at Tassie church. The accommodation was gorgeous, especially the stained glass windows.
The coffee machine was fabulous and the gardens, particularly the apple trees were fab. Had a delicious roast at pub next door and the distillery up the road was also good.
Highly recommend.
- Marlene (10/5): Exceptional -
- Susan (10/5): We couldn’t believe how amazingly Beait was! - The converted church was just sensational. The house provides everything you could possibly need. We loved the fancy antique dishes and serving ware that goes so well with the house. Next time I’d bring something to cook so we could dine on the massive dining table and also bake an apple pie using the apples from the laden apple trees on the property.
A stroll down to Old Kempton Distillery for whisky and gin tastings and lunch was awesome too. We loved everything although the gardens could do with a little attention.
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional -
- Snehalvs (10/5): Exceptional - Fulfilled a long-standing dream to stay in a church. This is really a well-appointed, comfortable and clean accommodation - fabulous and highly recommended.
- Cassy (10/5): Comfortable, relaxing location in a very special building - We came to tour Belgrove distillery. The accommodation was exceptional value for money. Kempton is a quiet town so having accommodation that had brilliant self catering facilities meant we would enjoy the building even more. We would happily have stayed longer. This is the perfect accommodation to just slow down and relax.
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Esther (9/5): Beautiful, yet quirky place to stay - What a wonderful place to stay. We chose a Tassie Church as a stopover from our Launceston to Bruny island drive. Soo many cute little details. The church tower, the stained glass windows, the church garden were really nice features - just to mention a few.
The bathrooms were amazing, heated floors, great showers with the perfect water pressure.
Also the pub next door was very handy and the dinner we had there was nice. All in all a great stay.
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - The church is the most beautiful place to stay, perfectly restored and decorated! We only stayed one night but would have loved to have stayed much longer. It has everything you need, feels very luxurious, and is such a unique stay.
- Shayne1975 (10/5): 10 out of 10 stars🥰Best stay ever🤩🤩 - Everything was wonderful, the church, the grounds, the central location, the gardens and the homely atmosphere all round, can not wait until we can stay again. There is nothing we did not like
- Zsuzsanna (10/5): Exceptional - What a unique, wonderful, stunning place!!! We felt very privileged to stay in such an extraordinary place. There is so much to discover, so many lovely details to enjoy. I totally loved the old phone, the staircases, the romantic dining table, the atmosphere!!! And then one of the most beautiful terraces I have ever seen, so lovingly created. We were lucky to spend a sunny afternoon outside, what a luxury! And beautiful gardens... WOW!!!! Ah yes, the biggest coffee machine we have ever seen, oh and the coffeeeeee.... 😍
- Rosanne (7/5): Good -
- Georgina (9/5): Superb -
- Kerry (10/5): New Years Eve at Kempton Church - THE ambience of the beautiful building and grounds. The renovations have beautifully conserved and showcased the heritage and architectural features, making it a relaxing place to decompress. Wonderful that it is pet friendly (especially with high quality of the furnishings and cream coloured carpet !), Large floorboard areas where the dog can hang out without worrying about him shedding hair on the carpet. Spacious grounds for exercising the dog plus an off-lead dog park across the road. Leaving!
- Bradley (10/5): A beautiful church in the heart of Kempton. Very spacious and with wonderful hosts. - A beautiful church in the heart of Kempton. Very spacious and clean with great amenities. Everything you could possibly need was there, as well as other things you didn’t even know you needed. This was the most beautiful house which was so relaxing & with a great atmosphere. Only stayed 2 nights & wish it was longer. Found nothing that needed to be improved.

The location is quiet and the mix between modern and vintage decor is simply stunning. Will be back for sure. Nothing.
