Guest Reviews
- Trafford (10/5): Fantastic! - Absolutely lovely place and brilliant hosts. Only that it's so far from my house!
- Jessica (10/5): I look forward to staying again. This place is perfect and the owners are friendly and helpful - The location is perfect, private and quiet everything was perfect
- Pete (1/5): terrible overall. never expect to stay in a property with live mice captured in mouse traps. - was warm on arrival a live mouse captured in a baited mouse trap beside the bed, set before our arrival to the property.
- Cheng (10/5): -
- Jana (10/5): - Excellent location, view, beds, porch. N/a
- Jiang (10/5): - We had a lovely stay here. The host was very thoughtful and gave us clear check-in instructions. The place was clean, comfortable, and the surrounding scenery was beautiful — especially the morning mist view.
It was also great that pets were welcome. We really enjoyed our stay and would happily book again next time!
- Susan (10/5): Relaxing! A lovely place to sit and listen to the birds im cosy comfort. - Quaint cottage overlooking beautiful scenery of hills and fruit trees not far out of Balingup township.
The cottage is comfortable and is self contained with a log burning fire.
The hostess is lovely and very helpful. I have stayed at this property several times now, so there is nothing that I dislike about it.

- Sangeeta (9/5): A warm, cosy and beautifully rustic pet‑friendly cottage with generous space, lovely hosts and unforgettable surrounds j - An absolute gem — a charming rustic cottage with plenty of space, thoughtfully laid out and featuring a fully equipped kitchen. Warm, cosy, and exceptionally comfortable throughout. Nestled among beautiful trees and lush greenery, and surrounded by neighbouring properties with cows, horses, and hundreds of wild kangaroos. Truly an unforgettable experience. Welcoming hosts. Pet friendly accommodation. Balingup town centre, always a pleasure to visit, is nearby.

- Menar (10/5): After a quiet getaway to digitally detox, this is the place. Beautiful views of rolling countryside - Location is amazing, quiet. Small towns within short drives. Friendly and responsive owners.
Well kept gardens and clean property. Sufficiently warm and cosy. Adequate facilities. Phone reception still ok in the area, nice farm stay vibes from animal noises, not loud just background ambiance. Good base to explore further from. Very responsive support from owners much appreciated. Very pretty in the rain when the environment turns green. Bed was a little uncomfortable showing it's age slightly, same with sofas in terms of support, but still usable.
Not much to dislike, I had to nit pick to be honest , all in all a nice place for a base to explore from.
- Brent (7/5): Thoughtful and attentive hosts. - Close to Balingup for easy commute. Clean and spacious unit. A bit hard to find.
- Mark (9/5): The house was cosy and comfy with everything we needed - Location was great, Nice and quiet.
Owner was really friendly and accomodating.
Very understanding with our young kids. Everything was what we needed.
- Erin (10/5): Comfortable, clean and serene. - Lovely, comfortable accommodation with friendly, helpful hosts. We booked ‘the cottage’ (as opposed to ‘the villa’). The cottage was much larger than we had expected. It was super clean, the bed was very comfortable and roomy with gorgeous linens, the shower was excellent with high pressure and nice hot water and there were plenty of towels. The cottage has reverse cycle air conditioning/heating plus a slow combustion wood heater. There’s an electric oven and hot plates, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge and all the required kitchen crockery and utensils. We brought our own coffee plunger and coffee. Otherwise there is instant coffee generously available. The pots and pans are all stainless steel which we very much appreciated. The location is a short drive from town and is very quiet and picturesque. The front balcony is a beautiful place to sit with views over the area and lots of bird life all around. We have stayed here on two occasions. Would definitely stay again.
- Sharron (10/5): Excellent venue and friendly, caring staff - Beautiful location and premises, quiet but close enough to town
- Rebecca (9/5): - The Old style house
- Kahvazadeh (8/5): Cosy quiet place in nature - I loved the balcony view. It was a cosy quiet place. Best place for stargazing during night time. The paving and outside area wasn't comfortable enough for 80 year old person who travelled with us. It needs a little refurbishment.
- Nithin (9/5): -
- Simon (9/5): Lovely venue ,exceeded expectations . - Location fantastic ,Garden lovely ,views top notch Due to property being sold unable to book for the future .Would have liked to make it a regular stay .

- Andrew (8/5): -
- Geoff (10/5): Old world charm with very modern amenities. - The decor of the cottage was charming and inviting. There is a comfortable chair in a windowed corner that was ideal for reading on the wet, wintry day we stayed there. The warm airconditioning that greeted us was a pleasant surprise and a thoughtful touch. This property was ideal for what we had in mind, a short peaceful break in a bucolic country setting.
- Stephanie (8/5): -
- Mariola (9/5): -
- Patrick (8/5): - The both of us being over 80 years old we found that accessibility features needed to be added, apart from that it was a very satisfactory get-away
- Nadiya (8/5): - The location was beautiful

- NickT (10/5): Lovely place, lovely surroundings! - What a lovely place! We were thrilled just at seeing the outlook when we arrived, it's a beautiful area. The Retreat is nice and open, with a comfortable bed, functional kitchenette and an amazing bathroom (yes, with a bath). Our hosts were super-helpful, making sure we had everything we needed while giving us plenty of space and privacy. So nice that we didn't want to leave! Thanks, Janene and Pete
- Elizabeth (7/5): Very pleasant and cosy. Our dog loved it. - Bush block. Dogs allowed No broom that we could find, windy days brought in leaves.
- Amanda (10/5): Pleasant cottage overlooking the countryside - Cute little cottage, scenic views Could hear the cars occasionally
- Sylvia (10/5): Fantastic cottage nestled in pure nature - What a fabulous place to spend a few nights.
Nestled in serene nature, extremely clean and decorated with great love.
We arrived late and our kind host warmed up our cottage and made us feel very comfortable. This was very much appreciated.
We would have loved to stay longer. ❤️
Hopefully we can come back some other time.
Thanks for everything.
Sylvia and Marc
- Arthur (9/5): Cottage retreat in beautiful Balingup - The countryside around Balingup is beautiful. This includes mainly established farming land on tall rolling hills but the Blackwood River and native and plantation forests are not too far away. The period cottage sits in an attractive garden immediately behind the main house with fine views of the surrounding hills, particularly to the west and north. The cottage is warm and cosy, and there is ample space for two couples if needed. It has a number of attractive nooks in which to sit and read, or to work on a laptop. The kitchen and bathroom are functional. Janene is an excellent but unintrusive host. Her directions to the property from Balingup township were clear. There is no local food at night. I took Janene's suggestion and visited the Shamrock Hotel in Greenbushes around 10-15 km away. It worked out. Bridgetown around 25 km and Nannup around 45 km away also provide options. The second queen-size bed is in a loft area at the top of a steep wooden staircase - not a particular problem for young bodies.
- Bruce (9/5): Comfortable relatively large cottage with rustic feel and great rural views. - The size of the cottage and the country views. Full kitchen facilities provided. Nil
- Barbara (8/5): - The hosts were good showed us around the cottage. Lack of light there seemed to be enough lights but they did not illuminate the rooms
- Katharine (9/5): Would stay here again. - Location was great. Good views and near to town Oven was difficult to regulate
- Tania (8/5): -
- uwe (8/5): - The pavilion was well appointed and
Allowed us to have our dog (Izzy)with us We had no complaints
- Kolkman (9/5): What a majestic little country cottage set out amongst the peaceful location of Balingup - I loved the peace and quiet of its surroundings More Comfortable mattress on the main bed. Was a little springy. Could do with a mattress topper
- Lydia (9/5): -
- Marnie (7/5): Comfortable and very clean cottage, lovely view, unique property. - Comfortable, lovely view, unique property with lovely country style decor and loft bedroom. The bed upstairs was a bit uncomfortable for two people- creaky and mattress a bit firm. The kitchen was lacking a few things- wooden spoon, scissors, soup ladle, jug. The deck outside had a beautiful view but the outdoor chairs were very basic.
- Jess (10/5): Country Cosy - We loved having an opportunity to travel with our puppy, and at no extra cost, which was an extremely welcome change from other vendors. The Pavilion at Brookvale House was super cosy, had everything we needed and the king bed was heaven. Janene and Peter are wonderful hosts and we hope to visit again one day soon ☺️
- shirley (10/5): -
- Tanja (8/5): -
- Koh (9/5): It was wonderful! Hope to return one day! - The hosts Janene and Peter were lovely and hospitable. It’s a cosy and beautiful cottage set in an idyllic and magical place.
- Sue (9/5): Great place to stay. - Well maintained with attention to detail. Very comfortable beds. Good communication from host including clear instructions and quick response to queries. Unfortunately no wifi but not fault of host and she did try very hard to get it fixed.
- Ovens (8/5): Perfect setting - The setting Mattress was a bit hard
- gabriele (9/5): Awesome country retreat - Lovely unit, cozy, stylish and very comfy interior of unit.
Everything you need there.
Great scenery to look at and walk in.
Great privacy.
Lovely country feel.
- Strutt (9/5): Very happy with communication, price, service and cleanliness. Would highly recommend 👍🏼 - So I walked in the wrong room and made myself comfortable, the host was gracious towards and let me remain where I had plonked myself!! Whoops! Very grateful 😁 Would recommend 👍🏼 The bed was cosy and I slept well. Just used to a firmer mattress personally. That’s as rough as it got 😉
- Amanda Jane (10/5): -
- Carlinda (10/5): -
- Martin (8/5): -
- Emily (8/5): Beautiful rural location. Very friendly and helpful hosts. - Wonderful view across the valley.
- Buswell (9/5): -
- Rebecca (10/5): Highly recommend - Beautiful location just a few km's out of Balingup. Easy access and detailed instructions for how to get to location.
Very comfortable king size bed
We really enjoyed the space - very roomy and comfortable
- Doug (8/5): A comfortable stay in beautiful surroundings. - This is such a beautiful spot and very convenient to Balingup. Jenene was very friendly and helpful. The accommodation was very comfortable.
- Benjamin85 (10/5): Last min escape to the country and was absolutely beautiful -
- Albert (5/5): Passable - It was a lovely area and close to town Unfortunatly it was extremely cold and the air con was not heating .The wood fire as advertised was out of wood.We left the next morning cutting our visit short .Janene was lovely and offered alternate acommodation but we decided to leave early.
- Val (9/5): Very relaxing - Whole cottage to ourselves, great views, comfortable and quaint Nothing really
- Jay (9/5): Overall, an excellent location with beautiful hill views and a very helpful owner. - We stayed during winter and truly appreciated the comfortable bed with a warmer, along with both air conditioning and a cosy fireplace. The hot water system worked well, and the kitchen was well-equipped with all the necessary appliances. The owner, Janene, was very helpful and caring—made our stay even more enjoyable. Highly recommended! It looks like there is ongoing work on the exterior of the property, and it has a lot of untapped potential—which the owner is fully aware of. It seems they’ve recently acquired the place and are taking gradual steps to improve it.
One minor point to note: the Sony Bravia TV isn’t compatible with Wi-Fi. The owner kindly tried to assist, but unfortunately, a compatible dongle wasn’t available at the time. Not a dealbreaker, but worth mentioning.
- Joshua (10/5): Exceptional - We felt comfortable and welcome from the moment we arrived - The owner Janene was warm, kind and friendly. The house was cozy, clean and perfect for a family to spend quality time together - the view was breathtaking!! We will definitely be returning as soon as we can!! Nothing - loved it all!
- Sandra (9/5): Great place, well worth the stay - It was very well set out and the attention to detail was great. I loved that candles were supplied for a romantic. The bed was huge and beautiful, the mattress was comfy albeit a bit bouncy. The warm aircond was on when we arrived which was lovely on a winters arvo. Beautiful surrounds. Really cant complain but if i wanted to be picky, the tv couldve been a bit bigger and mounted higher up so you could watch in bed if you really wanted. A larger lounge table to put snacks, drinks on while sitting in front of the tv.
- Steve (8/5): Very good - Great self contained accommodation close to town.
- Yolande (7/5): Good - The view was beautiful, the bed was comfortable, the bath was very nice, and the kitchen had all the facilities you needed. They had a mouse problem, and I told the owner they were aware.
- Christian (8/5): Very good - A beautiful location nestled amongst farmland and the hills.
The fireplace added a lovely touch of ambience to our stay.
The cabin was very clean, and it had everything we needed for our stay.
The accommodation is only 5 mins drive from town.
The hosts are really lovely people.
- Russell (9/5): Superb -
- Thornett (10/5): Quiet, peaceful, relaxing. - The location was wonderful. So quiet and peaceful. Jenene and Peter were wonderful. The cottage was wonderful. So homely and comforting. The cottage does need some upgrades but the owners are aware of this and were dealing with it. Can't wait to go back again though.
- Jing (10/5): Exceptional -
- Taryn (9/5): Superb - It was so peaceful, beautiful view and comfortable.
- Colleen (8/5): Very good -
- Joanne (10/5): Cosy and relaxing stay in Balingyup. - We stayed in a cottage with the mezzanine and wrap-around veranda. The cottage was so charming and cosy and had amazing views. The beds and sofas were very comfortable with plenty of pillows and blankets. The hosts are lovely and, after meeting us the first day, gave us lots of privacy. Nothing, really. Loved our stay there.
- Cath (8/5): Welcoming and wonderful place to bring our dog. - So much was wonderful. Janine was so lovely and understanding with our dog’s needs. It is a lovely cottage with everything you need for a short stay. I loved the bath!
- Sarah (9/5): Spot on, loved it. - The view and the cosy room. Love the big bath and copious hot water. Bed was a bit squeaky but very comfortable.
- Russell (9/5): Superb - Really clean and an amazing location. Some comfortable outdoor furniture to enjoy the view would be great
- Graham (9/5): This was our second stay - it's a lovely quiet getaway in the hills not that far from Perth. - Scenic rustic location with a wood fire and a lovely outlook. Heating in the bathroom would be good at this time of the year, but the water was hot and abundant.
- Robin (8/5): Beautiful location. Friendly and helpful hosts. -
- Sacha (10/5): Lovely place with fantastic owners. Very happy with our stay thank you !! - Beautiful place to stay :)
- Anonymous (10/5): Loved it, and will definitely go back there! - Loved the location, loved the Villa. The views were absolutely gorgeous. Villa was spacious and welcoming. Picture perfect! The hosts were very friendly and accomodating. The bed could have been a little more comfortable.
- Sangay (7/5): Cool and chill - The views and quietness of the place
- Denise (8/5): Aa we were going to a wedding didn't have long at property. The views are spectacular. Hosts vr - Gorgous views. Comfortable but a bit dated
- Liz (7/5): Nice - Nice location and view. Kitchen very basic too basic, teabags really old, bed not particularly comfortable.
- Rich (9/5): A lovely get-away in a beautiful property. - The view was stunning. The cottage was really homely and quaint, and the near-by village of Balingup is delightful. It may have been my fault, but from the photos I thought we were in a free-standing farmhouse, away from everything and everyone. As it turned out it is a cottage attached to a main house where the owners live. Luckily, the owners were great, very friendly and couldn't have been nicer. The neighbours are also quite close - to the point of waving at them in their garden from our balcony - but there was no interference. I simply had different expectations.
- Nieve (8/5): Janene was very communicative and checked all was - Peaceful Stove top
- Elliot (8/5): Very good -
- Lisa (9/5): Superb -
- Fiona (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tiffany (8/5): Very good - Lovely cottage, beautiful views ❤️
- Angela (10/5): Felt like home away from home - it had all the nice little finishes touches - nice towels, decent crockery, just not the cheapest crap you normally see.
- Pamela (8/5): A very comfortable property in a great location just outside of town with great views. - Location, view, comfortable and well appointed room, quiet area. Driveway entrance needs to have bushes pruned. Quite difficult to see any traffic when exiting.
- Ruanda (10/5): Perfect weekend away! - Beautiful cottage! Stunning views. Cottage had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Cottage was very clean & tidy. Loved the loft bedroom!
