- Camila Ll.
- Nicole (8/5): Very good -
- Alethia (2/5): Uncomfortable, cold and unwelcoming - • Good location It was a good location close to town, but honestly that was the only good thing about it. The dorm room had just a breezy tin roof and the bathroom area had a massive gap in the door so everyone could see you. It was absolutely freezing at night because the room was very open, as the door was held shut with a string and didn’t even have a latch.
It was also strange as the floor was painted and if you stepped on it with damp feet you would get bright orange/red paint flaking off all over your feet.
But the worst thing was there was no ladder for my friend to get up to her bunkbed. When I asked the girl at reception she came in and took a ladder from another part of the room and gave it to us. It was only once she'd gone we realised she'd taken it off someone else’s bed! I went back and asked her for another ladder as now the guy didn't have one, to which she responded that there wasn't one and suggested I ferry the ladder between the two beds, and I obviously said this would not work as I couldn’t be there the whole time if either of them wanted to get down, especially if it was the middle of the night, it was ridiculous. Her solution was a wobbly bar stool. Unfortunately I found the staff very dismissive and they didn’t really seem to care.
- Collette (8/5): Very good -
- Julian (5/5): Passable - WLAN was very good! The location of the Hostel. It is down a hill, which feels a little uncomfortable. The room was small, and the floor as well as the surrounding is made out of wood.
Salento is very touristy, which means it is quiet loud. The thin Walls of the room did not block out the noise at all
- Barbara (3/5): Would not recomed a stay - The staff was nice. However, the owner slept right at the reception with her dog, a bull terrier. Unfortunately, the accommodation did not look like the photos, like cozy huts, but more like a Favela. The floor was very dirty, as was the bathroom. The shower only had very hot or very cold water, which came out of a strange water jet, washing hair was impossible. In the three nights we were there, the trash in the bathroom was not even disposed of, which stank accordingly. Very disgusting and unhygienic. Spiders, cobwebs and other insects were also in the hut as there are cracks in the hut. At night you could hear a whole zoo (dogs, chickens and roosters, as well as people) as if they were standing in the room. It was very cold at night and there was only a thin blanket, which was not enough. Everything looks deserted, unfortunately not like in the pictures, would not recommend a stay.

- Aundrea (4/5): Wouldn’t stay again - The staff are all excellent!! Location is walkable to the center. The common spaces are great - clean, ample, board games, kitchen well equipped. They provide towels and extra blankets if requested. The room was very disappointing especially for the price - it was large but basically empty. The door didn’t even latch closed so we had to use a rock to keep the door shut when sleeping. The beds didn’t have proper sized frames. The sheets had red stains that looked like blood. The bathroom was dirty and hot water doesn’t work well. There’s also only one plug in the room.
- Winterer (5/5): Passable -
- Rutovitzzz (8/5): Very good -
- Bonnie (8/5): Very good - The staff is very nice, there are garden areas and hot water in the shower. Plenty of room and tables to hang out and meet others, good vibes in general. I thought it was overpriced, maybe because it was close to Easter week and Salento is popular, but I had seen much better prices at other places in town, but decided to go at the last minute and then the others were booked, so that's my fault. Unfortunately it rained a lot and the roof above my bed leaked right into my mattress, and I had two mostly sleepless nights, which of course colored my enjoyment of this lovely town. They wouldn't change me to a different bed even though when I asked there were other beds available, which eventually filled but still, I felt that was inappropriate. Though they were sympathetic but that didn't solve the problem. In general this place really needs a lot of work to improve the conditions, it could be a lot cleaner, though that was exacerbated by the continuous rain, it's true.
- Amalie (5/5): Passable - Good location, close to the center. They got a nice chilling area outside surrounded by nature The room wasn't really clean
- Yuval (6/5): Pleasant - It rained on my bed . Moved twice. Light near the bed didn't work. The shower in the room couldn't close the door. House owner tried to fix a few problems with the room Alllllll
- Sarah (4/5): Ratings and reviews are very misleading. Don't recommend staying here! - The girl working there was nice. Reviews and rating were very misleading. This property is completely overpriced. We think it was a badly converted stables. Our room literally had a plastic sheet and duck tape for the ceiling to avoid rain coming through.
- Stuart (8/5): Very good -
- Karolina (8/5): Very good - Super friendly staff, some games to play, big common area, good location. Common bathrooms could have been cleaner. It was quite noisy in the night, because of dogs and roosters in the neighbourhood.
- Aditya (6/5): Pleasant -
- Robin (5/5): Poor value in reasonably natural surroundings … - Rustic … staff friendly … kitchen facilities ok … free coffee … hot water in shower … open natural surroundings … Very poor facilities. Toilet door didn’t close. No mirror to shave in in bathroom. Only mirror to shave in had no light, so impossible to shave in the dark. Bathroom tap insecure. No rose in shower. Bedroom tiny. Impossible to walk around it. Nylon sheets. Bedroom door locked with padlock and the hooks to which the padlock were attached were insecure, so no serious security. If the price were low, then this would have all been acceptable. It wasn’t. Steps down to the hostal were steep and uncared for and so approach not welcoming. Loud doorbell to hostel wakes everyone before and after hours …
- Evi (9/5): Nice relaxing finca-style Hostal right near the heart of Salento. - Staff was super friendly and helped us choose a coffee tour. We ordered breakfast for the first morning and asked for it to be ready at a certain time so we could leave early for sightseeing and it was perfectly on time. The site has a 'home feeling' with a lovely seating area with sofas and a tv, hammocks in the back and a nice garden. The area was very quiet even though the Hostal was only 2 blocks from the main plaza. We traveled with our dog and the staff was super friendly towards my pup who was nervous with the afternoon storm and who wasn't too fond of the cat that lives on the property. Overall, it's a very relaxing site right near the heart of Salento. The Hostal cannot be reached by vehicle, which was fine for us with limited luggage, but some of my family members struggled a bit with the up and down on the hill. There also seemed to be an issue at Booking.com, indicating the rooms had a private bathroom, which wasn't the case. The information on the property after payment was correct and indicated a shared bathroom. For us this was fine, and the shower even had hot water! My family was less pleased with there not being a private bathroom.
- Anonymous (8/5): Rustic friendly hostel. - The hostel is quite rustic, but clean. Good location close to the town square. The staff are friendly and hospitable, and will help with any questions and info you need for visiting places locally. Not negative, but it’s advisable to check street view on google maps before you arrive, it’s down a small hill with steps/tyres. I arrived after dark and having checked street view out first it gave me reassurance that I was meant to be going down there.
- Cara (8/5): Very good - Staff are super friendly and welcoming. The hot showers were fantastic! And it's a short 3 minute walk to the centre of town! I thought the price was quite high for a very small room, and the bed was quite hard.
- Amélie (7/5): Good - Very nice garden. Nice location. Quiet if nobody parties in the garden It is a bit cold in the cabañas. You should arrange well and in advance for when you arrive in the hotel
- Ollie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Zhiko91 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sian (2/5): avoid - decent location, although the access is via a steep path. It was clean. terrible experience. The ‘chalet’ for the dorm was more of a shed, very poorly constructed. The en suite didn’t have a door - only a shower curtain - so you have to listen to strangers use the toilet… It was also cold, not enough blankets provided, no charging sockets and wi-fi didn’t work in the dorm. I was informed on checkout that my card hadn’t been pre-authorized as advertised, and then got charged an additional 4% for using card. it was also incredibly overpriced.
- Jessica (10/5): Very good location and friendly staff!!! - The location is a bit hard to find as it is down a path, but is so close to the plaza and close to lots of restaurants and cafes! the staff is very friendly and helpful and some speak English. They provide a very inexpensive in-house laundry service, which came in very handy after mountain biking! Wonderful family-run business! Thanks!!! The bathroom could use a little more cleaning. Perhaps some coat hooks and decorative elements inside each room.
- Jason (6/5): Pleasant -
- Pierre (7/5): Good - Wendy is very kind
- Jose (10/5): Exceptional -
- Keryan (6/5): Pleasant - Wendy was a great host, making us feel home and always ready to help. The hostel is i the nature but very near the town square. The room was very dark and not super clean.
- Jessica (9/5): Rustic room run by INCREDIBLE family right beside the main square. - The people running this place are delightful! They will treat you like family, ask about your day, give you recommendations, arrange transport/tours and hug you goodbye. They always seem interested in you and happy to see you.
Breakfast is typical but nice and you can eat outside and enjoy the birds coming to the feeders on site.
This hostel (though tricky to find the first time is located just 1 block from the main square so everything you need is steps away. It is safe and welcoming.
We arrived a day early (right before new years eve) and they found us space immediately! SO helpful. The rooms were not what we initially expected from the pictures They are small huts with tin roofs and unfinished drywall. There was no nets of glass on the windows, just wooden shutters so it got cold in the evenings and bugs did find their way into your room.
All this being said it was clean, and even in torrential rains everything stayed dry.
While were were discouraged by the room when we first arrived, we were comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
- James (8/5): Very good - Stayed in a lovely little hut. The family running it were super nice and helpful. Hot showers which are a rarity! Lots of friendly dogs and perfect location Hut was a bit cold at night but we were given an extra blanket when we asked. Breakfast although free was very poor
- Melanie (4/5): Not recommended - Central location, friendly staff very uncomfortable room, strange atmosphere, as I was walking down to the hostel, there was this strange guy (who lives next to the hostel) making inappropriate comments (I don’t know how he is associated to the hostel, but clearly not a place you want to be). communication issues - when I arrived they gave me a room and told me I would need to change the next day, then about an hour later they told me I would need to change now (immediately). The same night one of the employees knocked on my door and asked me whether I would smell smoke. His uncle would have called he would smell smoke. There clearly was nothing. It seemed to me they wanted to disturb me and I was asking myself whether this uncle could be the strange guy from next door. I clearly not recommend to stay here!
- Jan (2/5): It's missing the very basics - The people that run the hostel are genuinely nice people, always helpful and very friendly. I can't recommend to stay at La Pijaraña.
The chalets are a nice idea but it was executed poorly.
There is not a single option to hang up clothes or even the towel - In a place that has a lot of rain that's very inconvenient. The shower was aweful, it was impossible to set the temperature to a certain level it was going up and down frequently and the shower jet was just a dripping something. If you enjoy hairs of your predecessor in the shower that's your place. The shower curtain was to short which meant that the entire bathroom was under water after the shower. The bathroom sometimes had a bad sewage smell too.
The chalets don't have any isolation, inside temperature is like outside temperature and they only provide a thin blanket. Without my own sleeping bag I would not be alive by now. Wifi does not work in the room.
The red floor paint detaches easily, can't be very healthy. There is a small dresser in the room, but if you open a drawer it has the most horrible mouldy wood smell you can imagine. Mattress was okay, pillows were just polyester and uncomfortable. Chalets have a small terrace but it's missing some seating option like the 10cents Chinese plastic chairs. While there is only little roads noise, there are roosters (neighbours) and dogs that keep you up at night. There is a pitbull dog, but it only wants to play with you. I rarely give negative feedbacks but I use feedbacks myself a lot for decision making and the chalets certainly don't deserve the good rating they have right now.
- Louette (8/5): Cozy and clean nature stay in Salento - We loved the general atmosphere! Especially the feeling that you wake up in the middle of nature, you hear a lot of birds and animals while you’re waking up. And it’s only one block away from ‘Plaza de Bolívar’. Thanks for your hospitality & Daniel step up your game with Tejo :p. You have to practice before we come back.
- Maria (5/5): Needs improvements. But the staff nearly makes up for the unpleasant parts of the establishment. - The staff if incredibly pleasant, helpful and present.
The comun area is very inviting and entertaining. I didn't realize by the photos that the rooms were sheds. They're quite cozy, only I would add storage space (shelf's and somethibg to hang clothes) and the path to the sheds could be a lot better. The naked dirt wasn't very attractive.
The path to the hostel is also very very difficult. We had no idea. It's also a lot of dirt everywhere and the steps are giant tires. The staff was so lovely helping us cary our bags up the path when we were leaving, but when we got there with our big heavy bags, I think we would've appreciated a warning that the path wasn't easy and an offer of help as we arrived.
- Sara (10/5): Perfect place to stay at - Wow!!! What a gorgeous little gem in Salento. I mean this place far exceeded my expectations. This was one of the best hostels I've stayed at in Colombia. The ladies who ran this place were superb at cooking our food, washing our clothes and setting up our tours around town. Claudia especially is a wonderful host who made us feel so welcome and comfortable during our stay. We felt like we were apart of the family. The stay is a little rustic but the showers have hot water and the complementary breakfast is a plus. We like how close it was to town (literally just a walk away) and also how it was tucked into a lush little corner with lots of plants, trees and pretty views. Don't even think twice about staying here. Just do it. Our only regret is that we didn't stay more time!! No complaints.
- Russell (8/5): Very good - Lovely family who run the hostel, very accomodating and just really nice. Plenty of social areas to relax in and just a few minute walk to the town centre
- Flavia (9/5): Great location with the most caring hosts - Claudia and Daniel were the most caring and helpful hosts we have ever experienced. The rooms were simple but confortable and we really liked the location (close to the center but still far enough to be quiet). The place has a great vibe with a loving atmosphere and high energy. The infrastructure is still improving (they are constantly trying and I am sure in some time it will be even better). Especially the stability of WIFI and the shower situation could be improved.
- Harold (7/5): Good -
- Tibo (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice hostel , 2min walking from the center but quiet at night , great to relax
Thank you claudia for your hospitality you've been an amazing host :) Nothing
- Jennifer (10/5): Simple accommodation yet has everything you need - Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful! They gave me so much information on tours and I loved the local guides so much. I made some great friends here. They have hot water and great water pressure. The hammocks are a good place to hang and meet people. Super central and close to everything. Great views of nature from the rooms. They let me check in early and held on to my luggage for 2 days while I was at an excursion. They have laundry service available too. I was even able to rent hiking boots and towels for the excursion. Thank you to Claudia, Santiago and everyone who made my stay in Salento so wonderful. My only suggestion would be extra lamps by the bed and lights that aren't so LED bright as they are quite harsh at night.
- James (10/5): Exceptional - Claudia is an excellent host, very kind and great fun. The hostel is really central. Tasty breakfast too. Highly recommend staying here, it was a pleasure to meet Claudia
- Patrick (9/5): Superb -
- Julien (8/5): good hostel with sweet host next to the center - nice hostel very close to the main place in salento. Hot shower always good with the rain! our hostel was veryhelpfull and very nice to us ! it was just a bit cold in our room
- Maaike (10/5): Felt right at home with the hostess - Immediately felt at home. Claudia is the most kind hearted hostess, like the Colombian mum of backpackers. Room was clean, bed was comfortable (despite the plastic mattress cover, really, you don’t feel it), hot shower, good breakfast, and the ambience was great! A tranquilo garden retreat in central Salento. Nothing
- Marta (10/5): Beautiful and tranquil place - I was staying in a bamboo cabaña, which was very cozy and comfy. The bedsheets and blankets smelt like home! The bed was super comfortable. Claudia was just the best host ever! Always there to offer advice and whatever else you needed.
If you’re trying to escape from busy hostels but still meet some nice people, that’s your place! It’s located very close to the main square but far away from roads. After over a month of travelling in Colombia that was actually the first place when I had a really good sleep with no need of using earplugs!
- Jan (9/5): Nice and cozy and good value for the price! - Really kind staff! And the location is great. You have to climb down a stair to get there, but then you are basically living in a bird garden. The room had a smell of fresh paint. Also, the mattress was plastic coated which at first was a bit unpleasant.
- Monica (8/5): Very good -
- Laure (9/5): Superb - Good value for money. Breakfast was very good! A bit humid but we were there during the rainy season.
- Jasperdbe (9/5): Great green hostel with family atmosphere - Claudia, La Reina de salento, was a great host. Although we had bad luck with the weather, she made us feel great. It's a family Hostal that treats you that way. Very green environment. If you arrive in the dark, don't worry about the steps down from the main road, they're in good condition. It's at the bottom of the stairs on your right.
- Michael (10/5): What a lovely woman - Everything Nothing
- Romy (10/5): Amazing hostess and location - Claudia is an amazing host who puts a loting effort in making her guests feel at home. Also the location and hostel are amazing. Thank you so much for the great time Claudia!
- Milena (10/5): Very nice place to stay - The kindness of the staff. The hostess was so nice and she woke up early to make breakfast for me. She was really nice. The food was good and complete and there were different games, such a karaoke, “rana” and people could have fun there. People was very respectful and the place was quiet at night so I was able to rest. The hostel is well located. However, you have to go down a hill to arrive there. Not really dangerous but something to consider if you’re tired.
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly staff give the hostel a warm environment where you are always greeted with a smile. Tv’s and private rooms if you want some time to yourself. Less than 5 minutes from the main square - perfect location. Also provide a good breakfast and very clean facilities. Nothing
- צליל (10/5): perfect place ! perfect host! we really enjoyed and highly recommend!! - everything great place, view and wonderful people
- Anastasie (9/5): Very nice - Claudia was very nice and helpful, we really appreciated our stay at La Pijaraña Nothing, very best value for the price
- Selina (9/5): Superb - Perfect location, very near to the main square where all the Jeeps depart, but still quiet. Claudia is very friendly and helps you with all your questions! And playing Bolirana (a traditional Colombian game) was so much fun! Lovely garden with a lot of birds. Hot shower was unfortunately not always hot.
- Noya (10/5): lovely - such an amazing experience
the nicest team who makes you feel like at home, beautiful outdoor view and a lot of things to do , you get a breakfast and it’s nice
- Veronica (9/5): We felt home - The staff is absolutely the BEST. Claudia e Jamie are lovely people.
They welcomed us at 5am, they gav us the room reality so we could rest a bit and gave us breakfast, so lovely and kind.
The garden is beautiful.
Breakfast was abundant and good.
Bed is comfy.
We felt like home. Claudia don't forget the phon next time you go to Armenia. :)
The cocks and surroundings animal get quite noisy at sunrise
- Simon (10/5): the place to stay - chill atmosphere , staff is so friendly, perfect place.
also the hostel has lot of place to relax.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional - We have travelled around latin america for 2 months, and this is the most we ever felt truly at home! Claudia and Jaime were incredible hosts, who soon became friends - and they helped us with everything.
The hostel is beautiful and you are surrounded by nature. If you enjoy the outdoors, you will love it here.
A particular highlight was the massive homemade breakfast every morning, including a big fruit bowl and a cooked plate, which we ate amongst the hummingbirds in the garden every day.
Make sure you have a game of Bolirana! Leaving :(
- Lisa (7/5): Quiet accommodation with - The host Claudia was exceptionally friendly and very supportive in helping us with our planning. There was plenty of warm water and it was quite close to the main square. The rooms were a bit smelly and few more hangers etc. would have helped to organise.
- Jessica (10/5): great hosts, lovely hostel - we loved everything about Pijaraña, especially the hosts nothing
- Lily (10/5): perfect in every way - Everything!
- The hosts Claudia and Herman are so kind and
make you feel like part of the family
- The setting is beautiful and so peaceful
- Breakfast is amazing, prepared every morning
and you do not have to leave the hostel for it as
other reviews say
- Claudia went over and above to help us with
our time in Salento and we loved it
- Facilities have everything you need including
relaxing hammocks and bbq
- We arrived very early 6am! and Claudia was there
to greet us and even prepared a hot drink and
breakfast for us
- If you are in Salento you MUST stay here,
pictures do not do this place justice !!!! - There is nothing not to like, by far our favourite
hostel in Columbia
- Ferdinand (10/5): Lovely eco lodge experience - The hostal is very close to the center of Salento and surrounded by nature (you can see the hummingbirds flying around you). The owners are extremely supportive with recommendations and (if desired) tours around Salento. I very much enjoyed the stay! Nothing to complain.
- Jedd (10/5): Exceptional - A beautiful hostel on the side of Salento's town. The hostel itself has alot of colourful space to it and being surrounded by nature you can watch all types of birds while you eat the lovely breakfast (now provided inhouse). Caludia is the perfect host, she was very attentive throughout our stay and helped us organise our onward travel. Her family was also very helpful, putting Netflix on the tv for us to have a film night. They helped us organise our onwards travel to Jardin
Hot shower good pressure. Good kitchen. Would stay again. As with all hostels, more coat hooks.. But in time I can see this becoming the one of the most popular hostels in town.
- Maximillian (10/5): Most welcoming stay ever - Stay here!
- Claudia was the most welcoming and charming host I have ever met on my travels.
- Location just off the main square, but in a tranquil area surrounded by nature and flowers.
- Vibey common area, with great music played by Claudia. She was very fun and involved us with the music.
- Nothing was too much trouble.
- The laundry was returned within hours.
- The (included) breakfast was delicious.
- Lovely view of nature from the room.
- The owner, Jamie, helped us in a local bar when he saw us. Very friendly.
Will definitely stay again! Nothing - excellent stay.
