Guest Reviews
- Joanne (9/5): Perfect place to relax and unwind. - Beautiful peaceful property
- Bird (9/5): This is a magical place to stay and enjoy the local wildlife - This property is in a very pretty area of Western Australia where you are close to nature and can enjoy being away from it all in quiet and comfortable surroundings. Birdwatchers will love it! You are likely to be self catering here as it is some way from the nearest towns. The cooking facilities are a little basic. Having said that we managed just fine over the 4 nights there
- Michael (10/5): -
- Tammy (10/5): -
- Allen (10/5): This is a very scenic and well-appointed small house. Very clean and neat. Wonderful! -

- Shannan (7/5): - Location was great- beautiful outlook, quiet and peaceful Limited supply of firewood and as this was the only source of heat the house was not warm. Cooking facilities inadequate.
- Cordehlia (9/5): -
- Antunovich (8/5): Great but noisy floor boards - Great location good views Up stairs floor boards very very creaky
- Jeremy (9/5): Redgum Hill Country Retreat, Gumnut Cottage - A delightful cottage in a beautiful garden. Lovely attention to detail.
- Jennifer (10/5): - We absolutely loved our stay here. The cottage was extremely cosy and the perfect place to rest our heads after a big day walking :)
- Paul (10/5): -
- Chris (8/5): we had a great relaxing time and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone - the location was incredible. lovely hosts cooking facilities were tricky
- Peter (9/5): Nice to get away, relax in the spa and great places to see. - What made this accommodation so special was the warm spa, it was very relaxing under the covered patio with the rain drops falling around outside this made it so magical :) The location was very central so that made it great for sight seeing. Breakfast was not included in the price. We took our own food of which was planned but a few condiments would of been helpful towards our cooking and milk for your cup of tea/coffee that was supplied. Some wood was supplied because it was winter but not enough to light up in the cold mornings only enough for nights so we went out and brought some wood of which was no hassle but for a winter stay a little more supplied e.g. a bag would of been nice.
- AlinaGribble (8/5): - Beautiful country cabin. Nice area to take a walk or just relax. I think there may have been mice scratching around in the bedroom. Also for the number of people staying it was very inconvenient having only one bathroom/ toilet available.
- Pablo (9/5): -
- Michele (10/5): -
- Claire (10/5): Quiet, great spa, the sounds of the birds. - The serenity and sounds of the birds. The spa outside. Not much to be honest, maybe the remoteness of the location.
- Ken (9/5): Superb -
- Greg (10/5): Very lovely stay, comfortable, will return again - Very comfortable and great relaxed country vibe. The washing machine was broken down, but I'm sure that is just temporary.
- Christopher (9/5): Superb -
- Claire (9/5): Relaxing spot - Great place for a relaxing off grid weekend. Perfect for exploring the area on bikes (training for seven or other bikepacking races)
- Kiri (9/5): The hosts were very welcoming and hospitable. Quaint cottage and very peaceful. -
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Christina (10/5): Perfect place to unwind and switch off in a beautiful little cottage surrounded by bush - This place was like a secret little hideaway, quirky, quaint, no reception, beautiful gardens to walk around, perfect little cottage, in the bush with the blackwood river running couple hundred meters from the property. If you want to enjoy quality time with someone, perfect. Very cute loft bedroom with verandah off it, book shelf full to brim, would love to go back in the winter with fire on, hot spa on deck!
- Monika (9/5): Time out - Quiet retreat. lots of wild life around..Electric blankets, hot shower and kitchen between two rooms... The distance to Balingup or Nannup. dangerous driving day or night..
- Gary (7/5): Good -
- Amber (8/5): Nice short weekend getaway in the country - Dirk was very friendly and it was a nice stay. The gardens are beautiful and well kept.
- Katrina (9/5): Superb - Loved the quiet peaceful setting and the spa!
- Benjamin (9/5): Superb -
- Derek (9/5): Quiet and peaceful - Clean nice cabin Nil
- Leah (9/5): Just what we needed! So relaxing, so beautiful - Dirk is super welcoming and even gave us more wood than we were allowed per day and helped start the fire for us a few times.
Super relaxing cottage. No wifi and Vodafone doesn’t work out there. That’s not there fault just good for others to know 😄
Wish there was a little extra hearing like the heating unit upstairs worked as well as the cottage does get really cold when the fire goes out
- Luba (8/5): Very good -
- Sonya (8/5): Nice relaxing stay in a beautiful location. - We loved the setting of the cottage. It was very private and there was loads of space. I would love to go back in winter. The hosts were generous and left us some chocolate eggs as it was Easter and some port. They were helpful throughout our stay. There was a lovely spa outside which we made good use of. There was not an oven so in terms of self-catering the facilities could be improved.
- Julie (9/5): Relaxing, friendly, beautiful cottage and surrounds. Secluded but close to other towns to explore. - The hosts were wonderful. The surrounds and nature were awesome.
- Zainah (9/5): We had a lovely peace and quiet time at Gumhut. Dirk and Judith are pleasant hosts. - The original paintings on the wall especially the one in the bathroom( 1 duck thinking -he's ignored; 2 ducks sleeping; 1 duck bored - Drew)
- Moira (8/5): Fantastic relaxing location… kangaroos and bird life on your doorstep. - Fantastic location! Really comfortable beds. There could have been extra towels for spa… ice trays for ice.
- Rebekah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anita (1/5): the sensation you get from the moment you walk in is the feeling like you are an unwanted guest and are walking around - The location was fantastic with great views Extremely disappointing- owners are rude and disrespectful. Dirk creeps around at night checking everything - our 20 year old daughters felt so unsafe - he asked why our daughters left the light on outside their room in the back terrace( which means he would have been walking around at night ‘checking’ if everything’s okay). He walks around your rented space unannounced. If you rent out a villa the space should be private for the time you are there? There was 4 of us staying in the 2 bedroom villa I asked if it’s ok for my brother and sister with my 4 year old niece to come for the day. Dirk said of course that’s not a problem.that was very nice of him.We were out all day and came back around 4:30 made some dinner and sat around talking laughing listening to music (which was not excessively loud)having some drinks as after all we are on holiday and enjoying our weekend away. Our niece fell asleep around 7:30. I knocked on the reception door a couple of times and no one answered I was going to ask dirk if it was ok that they slept the night and go home in morning and offer to pay for the extra 2 adults. As it was getting late and it’s a 4 hour drive back to Perth. (Especially with a 4 year old) at 9:30 dirk out of nowhere once again just came walking into our private rented space and his words-“So I just want to know what is going on what are the sleeping arrangements tonight?” I said to dirk that I tried to knock on the door and ask you 2 hours ago if this was going to be ok the rooms we rented had the space for additional 4 people to sleep 2 single beds in each of the rooms and a pull out double sofa in the living space. We didn’t ask for anything from the owners we were just going to make it work for the night. I told him this and said I would like to pay for 2 more adults for the night. Dirk then started raising his voice saying but why didn’t you tell me when did you know that they were going to stay the night and kept repeating himself.
- Dan (10/5): A very peaceful and relaxing place to stay close to nature. - Location was handy between Balingup and Nannup and very peaceful. The gardens were pretty and the birdlife a real treat. Hosting was friendly but allowed us lots of privacy. Needed to provide a washing up cloth, the scourer was no good for wiping benches down. A very minor quibble!
- Kelly (1/5): Wouldn’t recommend - Owner came into / let themselves the cottage without invitation while we were staying. No wifi & no reception. Half an hour away from Balingup
- Tammy (6/5): Not what I expected. - Expected a villa to be a self contained unit. Not three separate rooms. The kitchen was not a kitchen. Microwave oven on top of a fridge with a hot plate is not ideal.
All three rooms separate so you had to access 'kitchen' from outside.
- Natalie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Annette (10/5): Quaint and peaceful weekend away nestled around nature. - We absolutely loved our stay here at Redgum Hill Country Retreat. It was such a tranquil location and we loved seeing and hearing all of the wildlife.

- Andrew (9/5): Superb - This is a fantastic place to stay with the family, Duffys Cottage is cosy and has everything you need. The spa is a fantastic place to relax and watch the world go by.
