Guest Reviews
- Lisa (8/5): Great stay and we need to come back - Great location and everything is on point with fresh bread and fresh flowers. The little touches are special. Was a bit cold and the air conditioner wasn't too great at creating heat. We ran out of firewood to put the fire on the second night
- Malcolm (9/5): - This quaint little cottage was located in a very quiet street. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay for our visit to the local wineries.
A loaf of hot bread delivered for breakfast was a lovely treat.
- Pieter (8/5): Excellent stay would stay again - Location
- Michelle (10/5): Gorgeous accomodation, so comfy and cute - 2nd time we’ve stayed here. Love the place and hopefully will be back. The bed was amazing, kitchen and bathroom facilities were great. Love all the added little touches
- Siobhan (10/5): Just loved it! Perfect location cosy accommodation and wonderful hospitality. - My partner and I had an absolutely lovely and memorable stay.
Our favourite part was the incredible hospitality provided by Peter and Maria. From the moment we arrived we felt so welcomed. So much thought and consideration is placed into what they do to ensure you have a comfortable stay. A personal welcome sign had us smiling instantly and in the morning the breakfast provisions even more so!
Peter delivered us fresh baked bread straight out of the oven, still warm which was perfect with the free range eggs, homemade jam, cereal, oj, coffee, tea you really couldn’t ask for more it was so delicious.
The accommodation was a charming cottage which was comfortable, warm and cosy just perfect after a long drive.
The garden is full of many plants and beautiful roses which smell incredible.
The location is perfect it is incredibly peaceful you have vineyards at either end of the street and you are in walking distance of many wineries and also can access bikes and ride the Coonawarra bike track.
We will definitely stay again next time we are traveling through SA and for a little longer to really make the most of what’s on offer and to enjoy the tranquility.
Peter and Maria thank you so much for the perfect end to our road trip and hope to visit again. Everything was perfect nothing not to like :)

The peaceful setting was perfect for relaxing, and we especially loved using the bikes to ride through the beautiful vineyards—it made the experience feel really special. A lovely getaway we’d happily recommend! NA
- Sharyn (9/5): A comfortable cottage close to the Coonawarra wineries. - Warm freshly baked bread each morning was a surprising added extra.
- Peter (9/5): Would definitely revisit. - Cosy. Very comfortable bed. Breakfast was great. The warm homemade bread was delicious.
- Lorraine (9/5): - Locatioad facilities. Nothing.

- Robyn (10/5): Relaxing holiday at this beautiful cottage and great wine region. - Such a cute, cosy little cottage, containing everything you need for a great holiday experience, very relaxing, and great location to the many wineries. So many in walking distance. For supplies the little store down the road has a good range, but Penola is only a 10km drive to the Foodland supermarket. We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay and would love to come back again down the track. Thank you Pyrus Cottage owners for an awesome stay. Nil
- Lisa (7/5): - Panneau de bienvenue personnalise.
Pain chaud le matin / plateau de fruits et ce qu'il faut des notre arrivee dans le frigo.
Velos et casques fournis
- Milo (9/5): - Great for wine All ok
- Katie (9/5): Cute cottage in the heart of Coonawarra - A really lovely cottage in the heart of Connawarra. Easy walking distance to a few wineries. Very peaceful location and we were given eggs, juices, jams with a fresh warm loaf of bread in the morning for breakfast. Kitchen facilities and cooking equipment for cooking dinner (not much in the town so you need to bring food, unless you drive to Penola). Maria was very friendly and made us feel really welcome in her cottage.
- Mirko (10/5): Sehr zu empfehlen. Unterkunft mit Charm und super Frühstückservice. - Traumhafte Unterkunft die in die Gegend passt. Weinfelder ringsum.
- Julian (9/5): - Everything was great and cosy Was not long enough
- Alex (10/5): - location, breakfast, country style atmosphere
- Jake (10/5): - We had a perfect time at Pyrus Cottage. Couldn't recommend it enough!
- Grant (8/5): Stayed one night. - Quaint wee house Nothing
- Ivan (8/5): Beautiful little cottage, enjoyed our stay 😊 - Location, location, location. Hot fresh bread supplied each morning 😋 Unseasonably cold for December. No electric heating or fire wood for heating. We could have asked for some wood, our mistake 🤷♂️
- Judith (9/5): Relaxing and quiet, a great spot on our way to Melbourne - Cosy little cottage which met our needs perfectly
- Suzanne (9/5): -
- Jane (9/5): - Very clean & comfortable. Well equipped. Walking distance to wineries. Lovely fresh produce supplied for breakfast.
- Renee (9/5): Highly recommend this beautiful cottage for a stay in Coonawarra - Lovely warm welcome when we arrived. Cosy cottage in a wonderful location. Maria's homemade bread for breakfast was amazing and added to the lovely country hospitality. Shower's hot water was tricky to navigate and would have loved to been able to use the fireplace.
- David (8/5): Well located - Comfortable cottage ideally located for visiting Coonawarra wineries
- Greenslade (8/5): - the shower has no water pressure
- Helen (8/5): A very cute cottage for a stay in the Coonawarra wine region - Very quaint cottage in walking distance to several vineyards of the Coonawarra. Well stocked fridge and fresh bread delivered in the morning. Host was really helpful. It was a little chilly, although there is a log fire and an electric blanket and heater in the bathroom. The toilet also doesn’t have a full window (more of a fly net and slats) so lots of bugs in the loo at night.
- Kerry (9/5): - Cosy cottage in a great location to explore the Coonawarra.
- Rachael (9/5): - Property is in the heart of the Coonawarra and Maria is a lovely host. Can easily walk to a range of wineries and we took the bikes out so we could explore more of the region.
- Luke (10/5): Host were great and such a lovely cottage and spot! Can recommend. - Beautifully presented cottage and perfect getaway!Host left us with fresh eggs, juice and had a fresh home baked loaf of bread on our doorstep in the morning.

- Adrian (10/5): -
- Christopher (7/5): -
- Dino (9/5): Great location. Good value for money. We would stay again. - Location is great, particularly for access to the rail trail bike path and the local wineries. Cottage was cosy and functional. Fresh bread in the morning was a nice touch. More pictures on the listing would have been helpful, in particular the potting shed and BBQ. We had an issue with locating the BBQ which was resolved after we could reach the owner. One of the dining chairs could do with repair.
- David (8/5): -
- Martin (10/5): -
- Stephen (8/5): -
- Rick (8/5): enjoyed our stay highly recommendn Kerrie from coonawarra experiences for wine tours - The extra touches from the host like a fresh loaf of bread in the morning, still warm and fresh eggs and juice were a lovely added touch. Mattress needs updating

- Jennifer (9/5): very relaxing and met our requirements - loved the fresh hot bread, refrig well stocked. Fire made it cosy in July
- Levison (10/5): Very enjoyable overnight stay. On reflection should have booked 2 nights. Warm bread and home made marmalade were lovely - Lovely little cottage. Felt really at home there Nothing too dislike
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - An excellent experience in a fully equipped and stocked cottage. Maria looked after us with every detail required. Highly recommended.
- Sue (8/5): We had a lovely relaxing time and would come back - It was warm( except the toilet) cosy well provisioned. The fire was wonderful and the sun on the front of the house in the after was glorious. Well located and comfortable bed. Toilet was very cold and a
Lot of bleach was used in the shower which stained my personal face washer
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (10/5): A peaceful and serine stay - Romantic and cozy Nothing
- Beau (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (7/5): Quaint cottage in the heart of the Coonawarra - Quaint cottage located in the heart of the Coonawarra. Fire place was great and fresh firewood was supplied. Convenient kitchen. Walking distance to a few cellar doors and a short drive to Penola where supermarkets are located. Although not on the most direct route, Coonawarra is conveniently located approximately halfway between Melbourne and the Clare Valley Kitchen appliances are a little old
- Clark (9/5): Enjoyed our overnight stay, breakfast with warm bread delicious - Breakfast adequate, bread was a bonus, enjoyed our stay. Bathroom and toilet could have been a lot warmer.
- Sergio (8/5): Has a lot of charm and a nice location close to the vineyards, but needs important fixes for comfort - Great Location: The cottage is very well located, just minutes from many of the region’s best-known wineries—an excellent base for exploring Coonawarra.
Rustic Charm: The house has character and a cozy, homely feel, which suits the relaxed pace of the area.
Well-Equipped Kitchen: The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed to prepare meals comfortably during our stay.
Electric Blankets: The beds came with heated sheets, which were a real plus on cold nights and made for a very cozy sleep. Very Cold Toilet Area: The toilet was located in a part of the house that was extremely cold, almost like a refrigerator. This was due to a window that couldn’t be closed, which made using that space uncomfortable, especially during chilly mornings. That is a serious issue to be solved.
Unstable Chair: One of the chairs in the living area was quite wobbly and didn’t feel safe to sit on—it could use some immediate maintenance or replacement.
Slow Internet: The Wi-Fi connection was quite slow during our stay. A faster, more stable internet connection would be a welcome improvement.
- Maria (9/5): Relaxing wonderful stay - Maria the host was wonderful, she delivered fresh warm baked bread in the morning, there was fresh eggs , orange juice , milk coffee and much more. The extras were lovely, we had everything we needed. The cottage was so warm and cosy with the wood fire! Location was close to the wineries we wanted to visit. I could not fault a thing. We had such a wonderful
time and highly recommend this lovely cottage. Will be returning in future. There was nothing we didnt like.,
- Kevin (10/5): An ideal base in a great wine region. - Very comfortable and cosy cottage.
Quiet and restful.
Well located for walking or driving to many wineries.
Very welcoming hosts.
- Julie (10/5): Will be coming back next May - Very quiet, all amenities clean , plenty of wood for fire, clean towels mid week. Lovely freshly baked bread whenever needed! Fridge was stocked with eggs and milk, fresh fruit supplied. Close to all wineries … Nothing stood out!
- Charles (10/5): Beautiful cottage - Super sweet and warm environment in the heart of beautiful Coonawarra wine country thanks!
- Michelle (10/5): Put this Cottage on your must stay list - The location was fantastic. Felt like a home away from home. The fresh eggs and freshly baked bread for breakfast both mornings was a lovely touch. That we couldn’t stay Longer
- Melinda (9/5): Comfortable and welcoming, with all the amenities and then some - Cozy and comfortable. We loved our stay and would recommend it to anyone! Maria has thought of everything to make her guests feel welcome and special. From fresh delicious bread in the morning to loaning us bicycles to use to get around, we really enjoyed it
- Robert (10/5): Fantastic spot - really relaxing and enjoyable - Location to beautiful vineyards and restaurant. Bikes to ride around and small extras that made use feel at home
- Maria (10/5): We wanted somewhere unique, charming, relaxing. We got it at Pyrus Cottage in Coonawarra. - The cottage itself has a single bedroom with a pleasant large, living space, well equipped kitchen and big clean modern bathroom. Nice breakfast goodies were supplied, including a lovely home baked loaf of bread as well as eggs, juice and bacon. Country style decor with cute freshly cut flowers to lift the room. And a comfy couch and chairs. Just what we needed on the last of our 10 nights on our SA road trip.
Coonawarra town is tiny and was pretty much closed down on a Sunday might but the larger Penola is just up the road and there is all you might need there. All good.
- Shane (10/5): Great little cottage - Breakfast was excellent. Loved the fresh warm bread. Very comfy bed Nothing, great little spot

- Louis (8/5): Very good -
- Christine (6/5): Nice location, comfy bed, disappointing host. - The location is perfect, walking distance to vineyards. Bed comfortable, kitchen sufficient. Warm bread and eggs a nice addition. Front porch with chairs also nice. We found Maria a bit abrupt, especially when both the kitchen and toilet became over run with hundreds of ants. She dropped off bread and a can of bug spray and ran off. The next morning when the bathroom was covered in ants, we needed to run into Pinola to use public toilets. We were pretty creeped out. She sent the cleaner over who was empathetic, kind and fantastic. She did an awesome job cleaning it all up and airing out the pesticide fumes. Besides pest control being booked we didn’t hear anything more from Maria, which was quite disappointing. We got out of there first thing the next morning. Unexpected problems happen, how a host handles it is what makes an experience good or bad. In terms of location, be sure to check when things are open as we found most restaurants and the only pizza place closed except for weekends.
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ian (10/5): Thoroughly recommended - Rustic but functional & comfortable Nothing
- Sally (10/5): We loved the cottage and its amenities. Maria made sure we had everything we needed. - Nice to have own space and car park and excellent proximity to wineries A little dated but it suited the cottage and Coonawarra feel.
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zoe (8/5): Very good -
- D (8/5): A Nice Getaway! - Breakfast provisions were nice, fresh eggs, and fresh hot bread every morning was lovely.
Location was excellent if you love to visit wineries, which we did. The location was very close to Penola, which had several lovely places to eat!
The bed was very comfortable!
The linen, and towels were clean.
We would definitely go again! The following would not put us off going again but these are the things we noted. The toilet was not very clean and the blanket on the couch was a little smelly. I had to wash the utensils etc. as they were not cleaned very well by the previous people. There were food crumbs inside the utensil drawer and cupboards. Also was left a used and dirty sponge to wash our dishes with.
- Ian (9/5): Very cute little cottage in quiet setting with nice touches and perfect for winery visits - Warm bread delivered, farm fresh eggs for a nice breakfast. Walking or a short drive to great wineries. Quiet location and awesome country store close by with excellent coffee and light meals. Laundry facility even if we struggled with directions a bit. Cute cottage though! Not much not to like. Could be a bit rustic for some
- Dawn (10/5): A lovely relaxing stay - Charming cottage, close to Vineyards. Lovely little touches when you arrive. We loved it ! Nothing

- Ryan (10/5): Cutest cottage set amongst the vineyards! - Perfectly set amongst the vineyards. It was so peaceful!! The option of bikes was fantastic, it was a short ride down the road to the old Coonawarra train station which takes a stunning pic as the sun is setting.
Maria and Peter are so friendly and welcoming. Maria’s fresh baked bread is such a beautiful treat in the morning along with the fresh eggs, coffee and juice. Perfect stay. Couldn’t have been happier with our stay!
Highly recommend picking up a takeaway pizza from Ottelia at lunch and popping it in the fridge for later. It crisped up perfectly in the oven and we enjoyed it with a delicious bottle of red we picked up from one of our favourite wineries.
The bed was very comfortable and it was a nice dark room. 3 pillow options helped make for a great nights sleep. Highly recommend!!
- Michael (9/5): Comfortable, cosy cottage - perfect location. - Lovely fresh bread in the morning, and eggs too!
- Pamela (6/5): Pleasant, if not overwhelming. - Nicely baked bread, eggs, plenty of cereal. Quite location, close to wineries and good restaurant. Comfortable bedding. Very clean. Some kitchen facilities need upgrading. Tiles in kitchen lifting. Carpet needs cleaning.
- Ross (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kevin (8/5): Pyrus Cottage provided us with an ideal stay. Plenty of local wildlife and wineries to visit. - Clean Cottage was located in a quiet street in an ideal location for our one night stopover. We visited Wynn's Winery only a 2 minute drive away. It turned out our Host Maria served us at the Wynn's wine tasting.
Cottage was well set out with a really nice verandah to relax on. Thanks for having us Maria. Nothing. Cottage met our needs.
- Christopher (9/5): Superb -
- Barrie (9/5): Another enjoyable and relaxing stay at Pyrus Cottage. - Loaf of freshly made bread provided each morning.
