Guest Reviews
- Cristian Stiven (10/5): -
- Anais (9/5): - Beautiful location. Saw so many toucans and other birds was really amazing. A little walk to the centre but not bad at all much closer than others we had seen. The lady who checked us in was lovely and also there is cheap options for breakfast and dinner and also options to cook for yourself. More seating on the roof would be nice, maybe some hammocks as the view from up there is amazing.
- Suzanne (10/5): Lo mas hermosa Vista ! The place to be to see birds! - The most beautiful view, you could sit for hours on the rooftop and so many birds in their natural habitat.
- Onni (9/5): - The view from the terrace is definitely a highlight, but the hostel was great all around. The host is lovely and fun, the location is not too far from the central street and the beds are good to sleep on.

- Teresa (10/5): Amazing views, budget accommodation - The views were stunning, we saw toucans each morning and also in the afternoon. The hammocks. Free mosquito repellent & filtered water. Access to kitchen. The location is nice & quiet, a 10 minute walk from the centre. The staff were friendly & helped us with information about the toucans. This place is perfect for you if you don’t mind basic accommodation in exchange for beautiful views & amazing bird watching. Our room could have been cleaner but it was okay. If you are afraid of insects this may not be the place for you.
- Stefanie (5/5): - Schöne Lage, schöner Blick, meistens ruhig. Die Küche war sehr häufig dreckig.
Das Haus ist renovierungsbedürftig
- Guillaume (9/5): Best quality/price ever! Gracias Elsy por su hospitalidad! - Really nice spot, good view, awesome staff, really quiet in nature, perfect for cooking. Nothing!
- Jennifer (3/5): I think there might be more comfortable rooms at this hotel but our room was incredibly hot and the bed was so uncomfort - Potable water and you can cook. Our room was not clean, had old dead bugs around as well as what seemed to be bits of food ants found.
- Ally (10/5): Thank you Elsi :) - This is maybe the best hostel experience I've ever had. Elsi and her family (i.e. the people who run the hostel) are so lovely and it really felt like home for a few days. Elsi showed us some beautiful places nearby and some of the local fruit and toucans outside the house. The location is amazing: not too far out of the centre but still high up enough to have beautiful views and beautiful sunsets. The facilities are fairly basic but the vibe is incredible and I'd 100% reccomend it. I loved my stay here.
- Leigh (8/5): Nice spot, has potential - Beautiful location, great view. Only a few minutes walk from the town. Very friendly staff. The kitchen was hard to use as it never felt clean. I don't like to give bad reviews for places I enjoyed but this place could do with a little bit of Elbow grease and attention to really up it's game.
- Yuxiyux1 (10/5): Exceptional - The best experience ever hanging out with the hosts Anderson, Elsie and their children. Elsie showed us all the waterfall local spots which is just a beautiful walk away, she also makes the best arepas full of love and generosity. The viewpoint is the best! Not only the most magical sunset, but loads of toucans and all kinds of birds. I really enjoy my stay at Dunarinka. Thank you for making the experience so memorable!
- William (7/5): Solo traveler from USA 🇺🇸 - The internet is no existence. There is no internet. They have a router from 1980. Most phones today will connect, but there is no internet. Otherwise, it's a decent stay. Roaming data is important to me because it can be quite expensive. On the other hand, I think that's just how it is in Minca. Connectivity is difficult in Minca. It's a beautiful place that is very peaceful if you stay on the outskirts like this stay. . If I had to do it over again, I would stay at the same place. It's ok.
- Bernstein (10/5): Exceptional - The family who runs this hostel are great, warm people. I stayed a week and loved it. You can see toucans from the terrace before sunset
- Galen (9/5): Superb -
- Jordan (9/5): A jungle paradise a stone's throw from all that Minca has to offer. - I'm glad I stayed at Dunarinka, it was just a short walk from the village, which also meant that it was in a beautiful and quiet area with an amazing view and jungle all around. It was a very comfortable place to spend the night, but also to hang out at during the day, with lots of common space including hammocks to relax in. The staff were great, and overall the place had a very welcoming vibe. As a bonus, they provide filtered water! There isn't really anything I can think of that I didn't like about Dunarinka!
- Tamara (9/5): Superb -
- Dan (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful setting with lovely hosts. The WIFI changed when I was there and is now very good. Nothing
- Claire (9/5): Superb -
- Thomas (8/5): Great value, Quiet, toucans visible! - AMAZING view from the rooftop over the Minca valley and jungle. Toucans visible at close range most mornings that the weather was fine. Very friendly hosts. Location maybe 10 minutes walk from Minca but I loved how quiet it was and easy to recharge! I would’ve given a 10/10, if the WiFi was quicker. I’m a digital nomad who relies on internet so that’s the only improvement I see.
- Ryan (9/5): Good cheap hostel in Minca with lovely staff - A good cheap hostel, 10 minutes from the centre of Minca. The staff were lovely and even let us store our bags for a night whilst we visited Sierra Minca. The beds were comfortable and the views were fantastic. The WiFi unfortunately doesn’t work- it kept saying connected for us but none of our three phones could pick it up.
Also the shower is a trickle but more than manageable
- Rakesh (9/5): Superb - Good location. Price Wifi is spotty.
- Wouter (9/5): remote and still connected - Amazing location, the toucan fly right in front of you in the morning, close to center but still very remote, good price and possibility for tent and hammock camping Simple breakfast
- Alexander (9/5): Great place, great view, good value, nice host - This place was a gem of a find! Great location with a superb view on Santa Marta and the coast. Cute and comfortable room. Nice common area with kitchen and hammocks. Very friendly staff and host. The cherry on top was the toucans in the morning which perch litterally right by the window of the hostel. Probably not the best place if you want to meet other fellow travellers and socialize, as it was quite dead when we visited, but that wasn't a problem for us as we were looking for a quiet place.
- Oscar (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely family owned place with a beautiful view and a really nice private room!
- Maxime (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lukas (8/5): Amazing view - The view is amazing Always book through booking or ask and pay in the property before your official stay time, otherwise they will wait till check out time have passed and then will charge you more than even booking through booking.com :) lame
- Mark (9/5): a very lovely spot - beautiful location, great view, very comfortable with everything we needed. Great staff, very helpful. Kayaking was very cheap and a perfect spot. the jacuzzi was great but for 3, not quite deep enough! The internet stopped working one night, but wasn't a big problem. For the kayaking I had to dig safety steps in the ground as the water level was much lower!!
- Fryderyk (7/5): Amazing view but could be more comfortable - The view is magical - watching the sunset was a highlight for us. The free binoculars to bird watch are a plus and the kitchen is nice. The host is lovely and gave us excellent tips on what to do. There were a lot of bugs in our room, including an ant infestation. The atmosphere is very dead - few people staying here. The rooms are somewhat basic but do the job. We cooked some pasta to eat for lunch the next day and when we returned from our hike we were saddened to find our food thrown away. It is a 10 minute walk from town uphill which was treacherous in heavy rain.
- Shemushi (10/5): Great stay! Would recommend 100%! - The shared spaces were wonderful with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. The property was within walking distance of town but far enough that it was very quiet and peaceful. The host was very welcoming and made us feel at home. She was available to answer questions and provided us helpful recommendations. Breakfast was available at an additional cost which was very convenient. Nothing
- Collin (9/5): Superb - Great view. Great rooms. Has Ac The view and the air conditioning
- Amanda (9/5): Beautiful place in Minca - The location is perfect, with a beautiful view of the forest and very quiet but still only a short walk from town. It’s a great place to chill. In July it often rains a lot in Minca in the afternoons and it was very nice to lay in the hammocks in the hostel and stay dry while overlooking the view and listening to the rain. Breakfast was advertised at the front desk for 15.000COP but it wasn’t actually available the day I asked about it. There are great places for breakfast in town though, so it was fine.
- Joey (8/5): Very good - Great view, nice chill places at the hostel, good kitchen. Dorm (3 bunk beds) is quite narrow, we were glad it was only 3-4p staying there.
- Connor (10/5): Gorgeous scenery, gracious staff, and a ton of little extra things to make you feel welcome! - Beautiful views, a well supplied kitchen, and extremely welcoming staff. You can tell a lot of effort has been put in to make your stay enjoyable. The hostess pointed out a toucan and gave us binoculars to see it, recommended some great activities, and let us store some things for a couple days while we went on a trek. There’s also free coffee and filtered water on site! It’s a little farther from town but honestly it’s nice to be a bit more private and have a more exposure to the jungle
- Leah (9/5): Superb - Cozy and quiet! We got to see toucans in the morning from the rooftop which was a highlight. Lots of bugs, we didn’t mind but something to be cautious of.
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aditya (10/5): Value for Money - One of the most beautiful view of mountains, Santa Marta you can get from this property
Shared room were very clean and bathroom is functional.
The property owner is very friendly and explain everything about the places you visit
Value for Money and underrated.
Must visit
- Traveler (2/5): Very poor - Nice views. There was a family working at the hostel and lived next door. They were using the shared kitchen and common spaces as a livingroom with their personal guests staying there and children playing. It was a bit awkward, like booking a room with a family acommondation. Felt like intruding into someone's home, since the atmosphere was not warm.
Their role was more like a being police than serving customers. Atmosphere was bad, almost hostile. The only contact they made during my 3 days stay, was 3 times trying to get me to pay beers that someone else had drunk and reminding me to check out even when I had one night left of my stay. When I was leaving, already outside, the woman/girl came to me suggesting I'm leaving without paying been that I hadn't drunk - third time.
Tried to order breakfast from two people, didn't get one. No room cleaning during a 3 nights stay. Overall, it was quite unprofessional even on Colombian standards.
Payment of the room wasn't on check-in or check-out, but the owner personally came to visit every evening to collect the money.
- Traveler (2/5): Very poor -
- Jozef (10/5): Exceptional - Great views and staff Nothing
- Steve (10/5): Breathtaking views! - The views from the terrace are amazing and I sat watching the Toucans every morning and evening! The owner and staff are wonderful and the big kitchen is great for preparing meals! I loved the hammocks a f the chilled vibe about the property! A dream location and a perfect stay.
- Natalia (10/5): Best stay at Minca !! I will come back - We loved the views. It was really comfortable and clean. I also enjoyed petting the cats! In the morning we saw two toucans from the terrace, just magical !! The shared kitchen was messy and someone left a mess there.
- Kasia (3/5): Poor - View and the net to sit on.
Nice staff. The location of this place has a great potential, but it is not well used here. Everything is basic, random and not pretty. Common area has couch, hammocks and tables, but all together it doesnt look good, more looks like it's in renovation. Terrace with a view is empty.
There are insects everywhere, especially bathroom, big ants and others very big insects walking around shower and toilet. I was afraid to use it.
I also had a lot of ants in my bed in room. Had to sleep in a sleep bag.
Wifi doesn't work in a room.
Only cold water in the shower. Window in bathroom is just on the height of your head/chest just opposite to the workers on the next building (some renovations there), so they can actually see you, while you take a shower. Very uncomfortable.
- Joel64 (9/5): Superb -
- Ubinger (10/5): Exceptional - The location was quiet and had amazing views of the mountains, but was close enough to walk to the center of Minca. The staff was friendly and helpful and communicative. They offer a delicious breakfast for a great price. It is exactly what I was looking for to relax and enjoy nature. Thank you Luce and staff! And two cute cats.
- Jason (7/5): Nice hostel with a great view but needs improvement and currently a lot of construction noise - Amazing view where you can spot many different types of birds including toucans. About a 10 minutes walk from Minca which for me wasn't too far and as a result it's quieter at night as there's no noise. Very friendly and kind lady who works there and makes a very good breakfast for 15mil. Yes some places give free breakfasts but usually they are not very substantial so i rather pay and get something decent. Unlimited free coffee. Facilities are a bit run-down and need improvement. No soap by the toilets for the first 2 days. Only 1 shower outside of the dorm room. Lack of privacy around the bathroom in general. The biggest problem was the loud construction noise going on all morning starting at 7am. Clearly people are there to relax and look at the view and laze about in a hammock and with constant drilling and hammering, this defeats the point.
- Francesca (9/5): quiet, chilled hostel wit a great view - nice location. far enough away from town to be completely peaceful but a short walk to the centre of Minca.
lovely view and chilled vibe...good kitchen for personal use ..and large roof terrace as well as various chilling areas..my private room was simple but all the basics taken care of... nothing to add here...thanks team..
- Ayla (8/5): Simple stay with beautiful view! - The location and view was beautiful, the main reason we stayed at Dunarinka! The hammocks were also a nice bonus! Don't come here and expect great comfort or luxury. Our private room was simplistic and the mattress wasn't very comfortable. However, if you're okay with this, definitely go ahead and book because it's a nice nature getaway very close to the little town!
The WiFi didn't work very well, but I can recommend Musetto música y café in case you work online. It's only a few min by foot away and the food is amazing!
- Umberto (7/5): Relaxing - Basic property with a stunning view over Santa Marta and the valley. It is an hostel where you can relax and chill. The staff is very friendly.
- Maya (8/5): Amazing location and overall experience! I would stay there again and recommend it to a friend - Beautiful location with views of Santa Marta and just a 5 minute walk to the Main Street with restaurants and shops. Host was extremely kind, responsive, and gave us an intro to all the key places to go in Minca. Facilities were simple but clean and quiet. Many cozy seating options in communal area including hammocks. There are a couple parking spots that a non 4WD car was able to make it to with careful driving In the double room with disability access there is no AC or hot water. However, there are two fans which kept the room comfortable at night.
- Alexandra (8/5): Very good -
- Valda (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful place for relaxing. Very quiet. Good Wifi.
- Jared (8/5): Quiet place just a short walk from town to relax, enjoy nature, birds, and great views! - Dunarinka has the best views of all the hostels in Minca. From the common areas, you can see the ocean! Staff were friendly and very helpful. Air conditioning worked well in the private room. The bed could have been more comfortable.
- Lucy (8/5): Very good - Room was v quiet, sunset lovely from various locations
- Andrina (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly staff, beautiful view and good location (10min walk from minca)
- Christin (7/5): Good -
- Lapo (9/5): Superb - Lovely staff Feeling Like home
great location 7min walk from the town and still surrounded just by nature, with probably the best view on santa Marta
Nice service like drinkable water and anti repellent de Not really a negative note, but to make you aware the house is really a basic structure
- Niels (8/5): Beautiful location, friendly people, has a lot of potential. - - Beautiful view
- Spacious room
- Friendly people
- Nice bird watching
- peacuful location, with a small walk to town
- lovely kittens - Without knowing beforehand we had to change rooms on our second day.
- It would be nice if they sold beers or other drinks
- Washing clothes is cheap (15000), but they are air dried, so you need sun and time.
- roof terrace didn't have nice places to sit.
- kitchen wasn't super clean
- all in all has more potential than is currently being used.
- Johanne (10/5): Beautiful views! - Great place to relax while being close to the town. Perfect and plentiful chilling areas outside and absolutely beautiful views of the jungle and down to Santa Marta. There's a communal kitchen and free coffee. Great for birdwatching, we saw many different species including two types of toucans. The owner is really friendly, and the staff were also so nice and made our stay! And there are two lovely kittens hanging out there. I'd go back for sure :) The private room with shared bathroom was a little rustic and I wish there were some more shelves to put our things. Otherwise nothing!
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful place away from the noise. I loved staying at Dunarinka and i did not want to leave. I really enjoyed the terrace and the view. Room was comfortable with mosquito net, the place is clean and there is also a kitchen you can use.
- Steffen (9/5): Superb - Very nice common areas to enjoy the view and relax after some hiking. Well equipped kitchen and friendly staff. They are having some small cats which are not well educated yet. That’s normal behavior I believe however, if they walk through the open cabinets with pots and plates close to the floor that’s not very hygienic. I talked to the staff about it and they were aware of it already and thinking about a solution. But I would still stay there again.
- Martine (10/5): Exceptional - The staff was friendly and went out of their way to be helpful with recommendations.
- Norette (8/5): Very good -
- Flynn (8/5): Very good -
- Sonali (8/5): Relaxing! - Location is fab. It’s literally a five- ten mins walk from centre. But bear in mind it’s on a hill! So walk is steep but manageable coz I actually walked back to the centre with my big backpack and small backpack. The views are amazing and place is calm and tranquil. Saw loads of birds just lounging in the lobby / during breakky. I stayed three nights but they didn’t clean / empty thrash can even once. Given that toilet paper can’t be flushed and has to be binned in trash this is important and should have been done without having to be told. Otherwise the place is clean. It’s basic but has everything you need.
- Emily (7/5): Great value for money - Beautiful views, comfortable dorms, free coffee, nice staff Not much atmosphere
- Xian (7/5): Good - Staff was kind, views were beautiful, luggage storage, motorcycle parking, spacious room. No hot water in the shower, Wi-Fi didn’t work in the room, I accidentally booked for one person and the staff asked me to pay double, which was 21,000 COP over online price.
- Robert (9/5): Superb - Luz was very helpful. About a 10 minute walk from town. Beautiful views
- Jose (10/5): Exceptional - It's a simple place.. But you don't need to much more.. The staff was so kind with me.
- Lenka (9/5): Superb - Dunarinka is an absolutely beautiful, very calm place. If you want to rest surrounded by nature I would definitely recommend it. The staff are very helpful. Rooms are nice and clean. The only thing I can critique about Dunarinka, that was overall amazing, is that no member of staff speaks any English. This made communication a little difficult for me.
- Nadine (9/5): Lovely views and great value for money. - Amazing views. Helpful staff via WhatsApp and when we arrived. No AC in room. Not hot water. Small bed.
- Martha (6/5): Pleasant - The views are lovely, great coffee and the owner is very nice. I checked into a 6 bed dorm when I arrived back someone had taken my bed which meant I had to sleep above without a mosquito net. Very disappointed, all beds were the same price and should have the same facilities
- Kylie (9/5): Quiet hostel in fantastic location - Best location in Minca - 10 mins walk from town centre, but out far enough to escape the noise and situated in the jungle with fantastic views down the valley back towards Santa Marta. We liked that the hostel had a kitchen available for use to make some meals, and enjoyed relaxing in the hammocks and on the netting. Friendly people. The kitchen was sometimes not perfectly clean meaning there were a few bugs around (usual for this area). Not a big deal for us.
- Flavia (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly and helpfull people
Amazing view also for the sunset
Nice kitchen, with all you need for cooking
Nice dorm with comfortable beds
Clean bathroom
A lot of places to chill in case the weather is rainy
Its quiet but still only a 15 mins walk from town
- Michael (9/5): A very enjoyable stay. - Everything was fine, no problems. They made their own insect repellant which worked well. Nothing that comes to mind
- Karena (10/5): Tranquil, beautiful location, great hosts - Wonderful, calm and quiet location with incredible mountain views. Amazing to wake up to stunning sunrise and bird call. Comfortable bed, plenty of room, great aircon and hot water. Comfortable 15min walk to town (struggle with a suitcase, but doable). Friendly, communicative hosts. Free natural insect repellant. Basic but functional kitchen. Great value for money. Highly recommend for light sleepers, very respectful and quiet guests, no noise from the town! I changed rooms when I extended my stay for a few extra nights (Minca is that great) but second room didn't have hot water.
- Callum (10/5): Exceptional -
- Orlagh (6/5): Pleasant -

- Rema (9/5): It was exactly what I needed, great kitchen to cook meals with a lovely view, dorms were on the top fooor with an incred - i loved the serenity of this place and the incredible view. The woman who owns it, is such a sweet lady. there were a ton LIKE A TON of odd looking bugs that flew in at night in the dorms. There are mosquito nets but even those weren’t enough.
- Martin (9/5): Todo perfecto, but too short - Very welcoming, friendly and helpful staff
Stunning view on Santa Marta 🤩 I stayed only one night
- Agata (10/5): Exceptional - Very quite and relaxed place, with a beautiful view, hammocks, clean, well equipment kitchen, a lot of privacy, very nice, helpful and respectful people. Few minutes walk to the centre of Minca. I booked for 4 nights, but I liked it so much that I extended my stay. I liked everything.
- Lale (8/5): Very good -

- Pau1ius (10/5): Perfect views, AC, quiet location eorth to walk a little. - Amazing location, worth to walk a little bit, but perfect nature, view, quiet location, friedly and helping stuff. Room with AC! Amazing terace on the roof. Free coffee all day. A lot of mangos could be found around. If you go with taxi, ask to take you to hotel, not tu Minca. Ac little leaked. Watter little bit too cold sometimes.
- Philipp (9/5): Superb - Nice people and finally a private room inbetween, also laundry service. I enjoyed my stay, a quiet place.
- Jason (10/5): Exceptional - 10 mins walk from the centre but boy the rooftop view is worth it! incredible views and lots of exotic birds to see including toucans! one of my favourite places I've stayed and the sweet lady owner is lovely!
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leona (10/5): Highly recommended! Would stay again for sure. - Sweet place. Close enough to town to walk easily, but far enough away to be quiet. Great bird watching from the deck! Toucans and other birds every day. Good opportunities to meet other travelers. Helpful, friendly staff. Rustic but comfy room.
