- Margaret (9/5): Relaxing - A lovely cottage set in a beautiful garden - such peaceful surroundings Nothing
- May (10/5): Great place to stay, so beautiful. - The cottage contained everything we needed for our stay and then some. The kitchen was very well equipped and the whole place was very clean. The gardens are absolutely beautiful. We both agreed that Altona Garden Retreat was the best place we stayed on our 3-week tour of Tasmania, and we did stay at other good places. Nothing
- blake (9/5): -
- Clare (9/5): - Beautiful gardens and relaxed atmosphere. Very clean house and friendly owners.
- Lyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rattray (10/5): Exceptional -

- Maria (9/5): Wonderful hosts. Excellent location. -
- Marianna (10/5): I would come back here anytime, thank you Fay and Colin - It is the most beautiful property and the owners are the loveliest people you can think of There is nothing which could be better
- Michael (10/5): Idyllic spot especially for a longer stay. - This is a really decent unit located in idyllic gardens as part on the main house. The owners went away for the week we were there so we had everything to ourselves. I noted some comment regarding the lack of an oven. However, there are a huge range of cooking appliances to choose from to cater for most techniques and capabilities. I also note lack of WiFi mentioned. We had decent WiFi for the duration of our stay. This is a very peaceful spot birdlife excepted!! Expect to see all sorts of wildlife in the gardens. Great hot water and a washing machine and dryer to use. There is nothing to complain about.
- Yogeshwar (10/5): Exceptional - We love the whole things about our stay. Nice comfort relax laid back and enjoy.
- Tyler (8/5): Very good -

- Tracey (9/5): Grateful for our stay in such a wonderful location. - Excellent location for your north Tasmania exploration. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and away from the city of Devonport, but only a 10 to 15 minute drive from the port, so easy for us to navigate when arriving on the Spirit of Tasmania. Easy access to tourist attractions, including mountain bike riding at the very good Sheffield/Mersey/Railton tracks. Nearby Latrobe is beautiful and best spot for grocery stop, excellent bakery for coffee and a treat. The Reliquaire is extraordinary treasure trove of fantastical toys, books, everything - a must visit. We went on many day trips from here including along the northern coastline and up to Beaconsfield and over to Georgetown for another excellent day of riding at another set of well-marked and maintained MTB tracks. Would love access to wifi.
We cook whilst on holidays, so missed having an oven.
- Richard (10/5): This is the best place we've stayed at on our 12 day trip around Tasmania. - We loved everything about the place. Firstly, the warm greeting by Fay (who also showed us around) and Colin. Parking was right there in front. We were able to immediately do our laundry with washing powder provided and a clothesline! Kitchen is well appointed (there is a BBQ outside), lounge is spacious, bathroom is laid out beautifully and spacious and finally the bedrooms are large with electric blankets. The bed was very comfortable. There are lots of little touches to make the stay as comfortable as possible. Everything was clean. After all of that, the gardens that Fay and Colin have lovingly created more than 3 decades ago is absolutely amazing. There is nothing to say here. No complaints from us.
- Annette (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing Hosts
Beautiful Grounds and Such a wonderful Getaway...
Highly recommended nothing
- Gemma (9/5): Superb -
- Rebecca (9/5): Enjoyed the weekend, close to all things we did & yet secluded enough for a private retreat and relax. - Beautiful area, gardens well looked after.
- Neil (8/5): Was very nice and convenient for us -
- Sue (10/5): Serene, tranquil, relaxing, comfortable, hopefully I come back again sometime - N/a A couple more mugs would have been nice
- Goss (10/5): Exceptional - The beautiful Garden's and the piece and quiet
- Averill (10/5): Perfect for our little family. We would be back in a heartbeat. Thanks for sharing your garden. - We loved the beautiful tranquil garden location just a short distance from town and the wilderness.
- Eileen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Irene (10/5): Exceptional - The beautiful garden. It's magnificent.
- Jodie (9/5): Tranquil retreat to use as base to explore this great part of Tassie! - Beautiful gardens with accessible facilities. Hosts were lovely and accommodating. Wifi was a bit patchy
- Graham (7/5): Good place to stay for peace and privacy. Would definitely stay there again. - We liked the hosts, the space, privacy and facilities. An extra touch was the ability to recycle. Very rare in any holiday accommodation. This is a good place to stay for a few days and is in a good area. Handy for Devonport. Didn"t like solar lights on at night. Very unnecessary. Needs to be kept dark for creatures and guests sake. A suggestion for the garden is let trees and shrubs grow a bit more freely without cutting back. Would give it a more natural feel.
- Karissa (10/5): Great hosts, beautiful scenery and great location - Amazing location! Very peaceful and loved walking around the beautiful gardens Nothing
- Megan (10/5): Hosts were so very welcoming and friendly - Rooms and fauciltes were great the gardens were magnificent Nothing
- Donald (10/5): Alton Retreat was a great base for our driving holiday. - The accommodations were comfortable, the garden settings are peaceful and beautiful. Our hosts were friendly and helpful.
The location allowed us to look around the area from Stanley in the West to St Helens in the East. We also drove to Cradle Mountain, Nowhere Else, The Promised Land and Lower Crackpot. There was nothing to not like about this location.
- Sarfaraz (9/5): A lovely memorable stay which shall be a definite go to on my next Tassie trip - You drive into a welcoming estate with plants and flowers greeting you on your arrival and the pond/dam smiles at you and you have already planned the coffee with your spouse/partner next to the dam under the gazebo. Fay and Colin are great hosts who ensure your stay remains enjoyable and comfortable, without interrupting you. The property seems very accessible for a disabled person too as bathrooms are done to the required standard and there are no stairs.
There is lots to do for kids with a swing set, play area and heaps of garden area to around. Those small and big bridges and swings are a pure delight to see and use.
It was very relaxing and soothing. Kids had access to small games and heaps of movie CDs for all ages. Very comfy couch in the lounge area. All facilities from the Kitchen to bedrooms and bathroom were an A+ in comparison to all our stays in Tassie. Nothing that I could complain of but very little phone and wifi reception, which is also kind of good if you want to go for a digital detox.
- Danika (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (9/5): A magical comfortable and relaxing stay. Central to everywhere and a joy to come home too. - Owners were wonderful and very friendly. The gardens are extensive and absolutely magical. Nothing
- Katrina (10/5): Fantastic accommodation is a picturesque location - Beautiful setting and lovey hosts. The unit was convenient, clean and had all we could need. It was great to see a disability friendly bathroom.
- Christine (10/5): Exceptional - Extremely comfortable and relaxing. Amazingly beautiful gardens to stroll around and sitting outside with a cuppa amongst the garden setting was really therapeutic. Hosts were super friendly and relaxed.
- Anthony (9/5): Superb -
- Sandra (10/5): Very restful and quiet location. - Didn't know what to expect re location, but was extremely surprised when we arrived. Excellent location and well kept premises. Very enjoyable to walk through gardens during the months of Autumn. Will return again hopefully during Spring. There wasn't anything that we didn't like. Everything wonderful.
- Susan (9/5): a lovely relaxing base to enjoy the area. Great to come back to after a big day out. - lovely gardens, very relaxing, great facilities, nice gardens to walk through
- Yuliati (10/5): A dream garden house to enjoy while staying comfortably. - It’s a great place to stay & relax. We can stay comfortably & have afternoon walks at the beautiful garden. There is no oven in the property but it has other kitchen appliances that we can use to cook simple meals. nothing that we don’t like.
- Linda (8/5): Very good - Everything you need in this two bedroom unit. Quiet location, with absolutely amazing gardens to roam through! Make sure you take your own shampoo or conditioner as it's not supplied. The TV is in a good position, but a bit small. Really not complaining, only comments.
- Warren (8/5): Very comfortable unit in peaceful garden setting. - Excellent location for our trip. Quiet and peaceful with a magnificent garden. The unit was spacious, clean and comfortable and the kitchen well equipped (no oven, but we didn't need one). Our only wish was for a light blanket to use instead of the nice thick doona, which would have been cosy for winter but was way too hot for warm summer nights.
- Patricia (10/5): relaxing and beautiful place to stay - The gardens are exceptional and made for a vibrant place to walk around. The owners were lovely. The facility suited us perfectly and is only a few minutes out of Spreyton.
- Isaac (9/5): Superb -
- Judy (10/5): stunning garden setting and wonderful accommodation. - beautiful setting, very comfortable accommodation nothing

The house was very comfortable and had all we needed to cook our meals and space to relax. Faye and Colin were so welcoming and friendly. We would definitely stay again! nothing

- Katie (10/5): We enjoyed our stay, clean, comfortable and quiet. - A great place to stay, well equiped, clean and comfortable. We had a late check in and when we arrived the lights and heater were on.
Gardens were lovely

In short it is a perfect retreat. I can't recommend Altona Garden Retreat highly enough. The only thing I didn't like was having to leave.
