Guest Reviews
- Cassie (9/5): Good location for having fun on the trails in Derby - The location and the facilities were awesome 2 single beds (not our preference but understand that this would accommodate other people)
- Robin (10/5): A highlight of our visit to Tasmania. - Tasty and prompt. More bedroom power points.
- Pete (10/5): -
- Carole (10/5): Lovely stay. Little deck out the with walnut tree and seating. - Central, quiet able to walk for dinner Nothing to dislike
If I’m picky, pillows were very hard
- DAWN (8/5): Enjoyable - Accomodation was as described Nothing do with the accomodation but surround outside the accomodation should be better maintained
- Linda (9/5): We had a perfect two days stay at Derby Bank House. - It felt like such a privilege staying somewhere with such historical value. Close to a beautiful lake walk and mountain bike trails, it met all of our families' needs. The owners are respectful curators, and the beds were super comfy.
- Maria (10/5): - Beautiful 2 bedroom suite covering the entire upstairs of an old historic home. The bathroom had been recently remodeled. The location was walking distance to everything- the lake, floating sauna, bike shops and restaurants. Liz is a wonderful host who can answer any questions you have about Derby.
- Shelley (9/5): Wonderful, quaint and peaceful. - Liz was accommodating with my request for a later check out. The B&B was gorgeous with lots of character. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom very clean with everything I needed. Nice a close, only a 15 minute walk to the Floating Sauna.
- Maree (8/5): Great location and compact space with all necessities for a short stay. - The cabin had a great back courtyard with outdoor seating, trees and lighting. We used the washing machine and were able to get clothes dry with rack and pegs provided. Kitchen had all the necessities including a coffee machine . Easy communication with owners. Bedroom was very small, with single beds.
No lounge but 2 chairs were comfortable.
- Fiona (9/5): Best record collection ever! - Great hosts, great location, amazing building and the best record collection!
Host was gracious to open up the dining room so we could make lunches etc as very limited space to cater for yourself. I appreciate that this is a true B and B only. Probably not suited for our needs as we needed a washing machine etc. Not hosts error.
- Jodie (7/5): Great location, would recommend. - Great location, nice comfy beds. Could only access communal lounge by going through one of the bedrooms. Missing a few essentials when staying ie tissues, iron, fridge was small, kitchenette facilities would have been useful. Although breakfast was catered it was very basic and could have been improved with small option ie juice/ coffee made.
- Chris (10/5): - Everything.
Hoping yo come back next year .
- Joséphine Caum (9/5): -
- Tina (10/5): Glorious comfortable stay. Would stay again. We wanted for nothing. Thank you Liz and Mark - It’s comfort, curation and care. The owners take great pride in the property

- Li (10/5): - A truly amazing historical stay featuring beautiful vintage-style décor and charming antique items throughout the property. Especially the bathroom — it was truly amazing! There’s even underfloor heating and a wall-mounted heater to keep everything dry and warm. Best bathroom ever.
- Shane (10/5): Hosts LIZ and MARK could not have been kinder or more helpful. Take all Liz’s tips for places to visit and you can’t go - We loved everything about our stay. Four poster bed, really good shower and bathroom heated floor…bliss! Best of all was Marks vintage record collection with a great hi fi to play them on. The property is central to everything, 10 mins walk to lake sauna and right next to restaurants and museum. Delicious breakfasts, really well cooked. Such a treat. There was nothing we didn’t like.
- Nicky (10/5): - Situated in the heart of the town and close to shops and floating sauna. The Derby Bank House is historic with the original charm intact and with great heating. We enjoyed listening to the many records from various artists that the owners provided. Breakfast was delicious and delivered to the dining room. Liz the owner was friendly and made sure our stay was relaxing. Nothing
- Katherine (9/5): -
- Andy (10/5): Beautiful property - definitely coming back! - We absolutely loved our stay at Derby Bank House - instructions were clear, the place was delightful, breakfast was delicious, there was a locked bike shed with power points for recharging the eBikes ...they even prepared the fireplace for us, so all we had to do was light it! Loved the modern bathroom too. Super comfy beds. Highly recommended - we will definitely be back here again next time we're in town!
- Jane (9/5): -
- Minnikin (9/5): Amazing - I loved the old style history home … beautifully decorated to suit the style
Liz the owner was truly incredible . So knowledgeable of the area and there if needed anything. Absolutely loved our stay there 😊
- Ismay (7/5): -
- Hryb (7/5): - Nice to have whole house to ourselves Would have been nice to have a slightly larger bedroom and a sofa rather than 2 chairs
- Alexander (9/5): Superb - The Bank house cabin rent place to stay and would be brilliant in Summer. I would definitely recommend for Mountain bikers looking to stay around Derby as the hosts also have a good set up to accomodate the bikes and equipment. Self contained kitchen and washing machine was very good. Single beds in the room just to be aware. Close walk to the floating Sauna and all parts of town. Nothing really.

- Nick (8/5): Excellent overnight stay before going down the east coast of Tasmania - Very convenient restaurant and bar next door for supper and breakfast with very good service. Very interested in the impact of mountain biking growth on the local community which has resulted in good cafes and bars ….. which all makes it an attractive place to visit. The only down side was the internet difficulty…… which could have been due to the remoteness of derby.
- Evan (10/5): Exceptional -

Very popular for mountain bikers.
- Louise (10/5): Great central clean and modern place to stay in Derby walkable to everything - Super central clean and cute ..a great renovation! Liz and Mark had left cute little Christmas decoration touches and some chocolates for us as a welcome which was really lovely. Not the property’s fault but my fault that I didn’t realise it was two single beds. But it really made no difference as the property was great.

- Jamie (10/5): Liz and mark were amazing hosts their cabin is brilliant and we would love to stay again. - The property was spotless and had everything we needed. The cabin is so cute and we loved it!
- Gillian (9/5): A unique stay in a lovely property. - Beautifully decorated and unique property. Warm and welcoming. Liz provided lots of useful information about Derby and was very friendly. Bathroom was a short walk from bedroom but as someone who gets up in the night, this and the fact the bright hall light came on automatically meant you had no option but end up fully awake. Breakfast options were somewhat limited: Bacon and Eggs or porridge. Liz did help by toasting the bread we supplied and offering various spreads.
- Mitchell (10/5): Something a little different in the heart of Derby. - A beautiful old building that has retained its original character but tastefully renovated with modern bathroom. Warm, clean and comfortable. Super convenient location right in the middle of town. Amazing breakfast and attention to detail. Our hosts were lovely. Highly recommend for a unique experience if you’re in town.
- David (9/5): Well designed and comfortable cabin, with wonderful host. - Warm, very comfortable, well designed and equipped, self-contained cabin. - John (10/5): Exceptional - Very large space with all the comforts. Great beds and separate lounge room. Everything was perfect.
- Tracey (10/5): FABULOUS! - We stayed 4 nights in this historic, comfortable and homey B & B. The bed was super luxurious after a days riding. The shower was amazing and the under floor heating in the bathroom was great! Breakfast each morning was delicious and delivered by Mark or Liz, who were friendly and helpful but not in our pockets. There is car parking and a shed to lock your bikes in at night.
A short walk to cafe’s and bike shops, Bank House is in the prefect location.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will definitely stay next time we’re in Derby!
Thank you Liz and Mark for your hospitality! 5 STARS!
- Julie (10/5): Magnificent and felt very welcomed - The ambience of the heritage manor provided by the hosts were superb, everything was exceptional beautiful. The breakfast served in a devine dinning room was very special. Nothing to fault
- John (10/5): Exceptional - The property was well located for our needs. It catered for us mountain bikers with a room to store our bikes, somewhere to wash them and tools and a bike stand. The property was very comfortable and clean and well equipped. I would definitely recommend this property. There was nothing i didn't like.
- Paul (10/5): Extremely comfortable beds, good breakfast and dedicated parking space. - This B&B is in a heritage bank building, and is set up very well for a comfortable stay. The bed was very comfortable and the linens felt really good. The rooms are nicely decorated with period furnishings and thoughtful touches. We only used the main bedroom and living room, but the 2nd bedroom looked nicely furnished too. Having a dedicated parking space was appreciated. The place is just a short walk from anything in town, including several restaurants. Breakfast was tasty and had fruit and nuts from their onsite garden, which was nice. Liz and Mark are communicative and friendly with lots of suggestions about the area.
- Barbara (10/5): Hosts were great. Place was clean & Comfy. - We stayed in the old school. The 4 poster bed was very comfortable. Loved the feel of the place.
The bathroom was new and very clean. The shower was amazing. (I want one just like it!)
Hosts were terrific - answering any questions & helping when needed.
Close to shops but still quiet. There was a shed to store bikes in that was locked at night. nothing
- Julia (9/5): Overall, the Derby Bank House B&B was beautiful! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. - The whole set-up of the B&B was delightful. The furnishings were beautiful and the decor was filled with interesting historical pieces. The bed was super comfortable while the linen was scrumptious. Mark made us feel very welcome and we enjoyed learning a little about the history of the property. The pillows were a good support while reading in bed, however, it would be wonderful to also have softer and low-profile pillow options.
- Andrei (8/5): Very good -
- Pauline (10/5): Exceptional -
- Glen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gabrielle (8/5): No contact with anyone - Comfortable Breakfast, no choice no fruit, no juice, no cereal, no toast, we were not asked what we liked just given a slice of toast with scrambled egg and 2 slices of bacon which was only warm!
- Jeffrey (9/5): Excellent choice - Lots of character in a well restored bank. Nothing
- Jacquie (10/5): Exceptional - A great place to stay. Very spacious and cosy Everything was fine.
- Doug (9/5): Private, comfortable, perfect for the trails. - Perfectly placed for a MTB trip, the cabin is close to the shops, sauna and trails while being tucked away from the main road.
The kitchen is well appointed and has everything you need to prepare and serve meals - even a grinder and espresso machine. Some home-baked sourdough was very well received for my visit!
The bathroom is likewise well fitted out (washer, rainforest shower head) and the water is hot and abundant.
The whole place is nice and private, with a back deck to check the morning air, read, or sit under the gorgeously lit tree.
The bed (two singles only) was very comfortable, and the pillow and doona perfect. The cabin is very well insulated and has under floor heating so night time temperatures are mild and easily controlled by the split system - I ran the AC for a little during the evening and then switched it off overnight.
I loved the mud room and bike rack at the front of the cabin. There are steady racks for two bikes inside as well as drying rack and bench. A workstand and floor pump were also on hand. Outside there is a rail to hold the bike and a hose to wash it down.
Some might miss a dining table, but I didn't. There are barstools at the kitchen bench as well as chairs. The TV was a welcome addition for this solo traveller used to the noise of kids!
Liz and mark were perfect hosts - available and friendly, offering extras (like the dryer) but definitely not hovering. Some might miss a dining table, but I didn't.
