Guest Reviews
- William (10/5): Best in Bathurst - The view from the top balcony is outstanding. A very easy and conveniete location
- Jodie (6/5): - My daughter got locked out on the verandah and couldn't get back into the building! Make sure you take a key every time!!!
Gardens were quite unkept.
- Robin (3/5): - None existent The freezing room, one small blanket, no tv unless we went to the kitchen/lounge area.
- William (10/5): Best place to stay in Bathurst west of the mountains - The view from the balcony was beautiful and the whole relaxed atmosphere and quietness close to the centre of town would surely not be equaled in Bathurst. Lovely Gardens to relax in, absolutely recommend
- David (8/5): -
- Brenda (8/5): -
- Joanne (9/5): Was a great stay no issues with the facilities. - The location was great. The old style setting was great. Other people staying there didn’t take other people into consideration very noisy after the curfew time.
- Pierre (8/5): Eerie but in a good way - Very original… From the old times…
- Stephen (10/5): -
- Brady (10/5): -
- Allison (4/5): A good night’s sleep was the biggest plus - I slept well. Bedding was clean. It was quiet. Small room. Couldn’t see out the window. In sad need of a makeover - could be wonderful but needs some TLC and a bit of a hospitality focus. No tea and coffee making facilities. No TV in my room. No toiletries. Would’ve had to buy your own tea and coffee to make either in the kitchen. No toiletries or hairdryer. The wifi password didn’t work so I couldn’t do any work. I got locked out of my ‘wing’ in the morning as the key didn’t work - another guest went outside and tapped on her room window and the roommate came and let us in. I was expecting something quite nice so it was disappointing particularly after I’d stayed at the Mercure at Orange the previous night which was so lovely. The property is for sale, so that probably says something. It has enormous potential. Near CSU and Mt Panorama.
- Lee (8/5): - We original booking was for the guesthouse however, due to a booking issue, we were offered an apartment close by. We would like to thank Robyn for their problem solving, flexibility and accommodation.
- Kelly (10/5): - The staff were very accommodating, gave us lots of good advice and recommendations of places to visit. Our room was very cosy, with comfortable beds.
- Peter (7/5): Would stay again - Good overall
- Belinda (10/5): -
- Daniel (6/5): It was bearable. Other residents cooking in communal kitchen at 2am wasn’t pleasant - It was central to town Outdated and old.
- Rey (9/5): Funky - Spacious Confusing to get to bedrooms
- Andrew (3/5): Stay somewhere else - The heritage building and grounds are beautiful, its just a shame the interior does not match the exterior. The property is well locted on William St not far from the town centre. Basically everything else. Uncomfortable noisy beds, horrible industrial carpet, broken venetian blinds and mismatching drapes, cheap ugly furniture, dirty fittings, shared badly fitted out bathrooms, old ratty lounges in the common room.
- francisco (10/5): -
- Lynne (9/5): - Loved comfy beds and a lovely shower NA
- Jane Davis (10/5): Not a standard, boring bland accomodation. Warm, welcoming and generous hosts - We were in Bathurst for a big soccer tournament. Holmhurst was filled with soccer families. The last day of the tournament it poured with rain, and true to usual soccer traditions, it poured with rain. We faced a long drive home with soaking wet, muddy kids. At our early morning checkout the lovely host suggested we could keep our key, so we could come back and shower after our games. He was so concerned about us travelling home cold and wet. Welcoming back wet, muddy soccer players was beyond the generosity of any place I have ever stayed. My daughter injured her back, and being able to come back and refill our hot water bottles and get ready for a long drive home made a big difference. Thank you Our room was noisy in the evenings, as we were near the main stairwell. Not the accomodations fault, but if you want a quiet room, mention that on booking in
- Bruce (10/5): - Walking distance to Mt Panarama Race track.
Peaceful and quiet surroundings.
Facilities OK. Had to stay in country hotels in SA for a few years.with similiar set up.Prefer in room bathroom etc these days , if availible.

- Philip Whitten (10/5): - Great location and awesome value Stove in kitchen needs some maintenance
- Danny (2/5): Very poor -
- Julie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Tracey (3/5): A desperate stay. - Great location and beautiful exterior Dated, unloved and mouldy
- Elaine (8/5): Great stay in Bathurst - Very clean, beds were comfortable, kitchen, sitting areas. Not the property’s fault but a group was there for 1 of the nights of my stay that was very noisy until quite late.
- Bruce (9/5): Superb -
- Natalie (7/5): Good -
- Jason (6/5): Ok I guess. - Good locatiom Shared ammenities
- William (7/5): Good -
- Benjamin (8/5): It did the job for 1 night. - Location Bedroom had no TV, no bar fridge.
- Danny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alex (10/5): Friendly staff, beautiful house! - I loved the old house Old houses can be creaky! I didn’t mind that really
- Jo (3/5): Not happy, Jan - too expensive for what we got - Location, History of the building, Edwardian features on the outside and some on the inside, quiet at night No heating anywhere, no complimentry coffee, very uncomfortable mattress, no TV in our room, an unclean shared kitchen, hard to regulate hotwater, too many steps, no disabled access, filthy old seating/furniture that should not be used (so unwelcoming), dark at night when trying to find the place, dark at night when walking around to find the amenities, no signage lighting on the road sign, no signage from the carpark directing you to reception, toaster that only toasts one side of the bread, frying pan that was and remains filthy, overgrown garden (always a big job), because the place is so cold that the towels do not dry during the day so my husband refused to shower in the place, so I used his towel as well as my own for our 2 night stay. Place needs some maintenance (some mould and minor repairs), and our room was so small, nothing like the ones pictures on the advertising. Also, no bathrooms are pictured in the advertising either. While the bathrooms are quite nice, we have been to other places with nicer bathrooms much cheaper.
- Karen (8/5): Very good - .location and I was able to park Beds are in need of an upgrade
- Goran (8/5): Very good -
- Kenneth (6/5): Pleasant - I was actually a little cold in the room
- Alise (9/5): Superb -
- Campbell (1/5): Horrible and uncomfortable - DO NOT STAY HERE!
We had to because there were no other options. Even then, it wasn’t as advertised at all. Small, overpriced rooms that are worth max $80/night. Shared and corridor is very loud so can hear people walking up the stairs all night. Conversations can be clearly heard through the doors. Lights in hallway stay on all night and shine in through the glass above the door.
Shared, filthy bathroom between men and women and no privacy to get dressed after the shower - must stand in front of all other showers in the bathroom to get dressed, even if other people are using showers. Extremely uncomfortable.
Beds were not beds, literally just two mattresses stacked on each other. When the sheets were pulled back, they clearly hadn’t been changed as there were old dry skin from the last person as well as dead bugs 🤮
Could not be more disappointed and will never be coming back here.
- Scott (8/5): Very good -
- Wendy (8/5): Very good - Rooms were warm and didn't notice the 4 degree morning, quiet and everyone slept well Nil
- Janet (8/5): Very good -
- Deb (3/5): Uncomfortable and disappointing. - Location was handy and it's a beautiful old building but that's about as positive as we can get. The beds were uncomfortable, the shared bathrooms were not clean.
- Fulton (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sasko (8/5): Very good -
- Louise (7/5): Good -
- Natalie (6/5): Lovely staff and homey atmosphere - It was lovely, beds uncomfortable, shared bathrooms but we knew this coming in
- Shane (7/5): Good - Faithful old heritage building kept in its original form Sharing bathrooms
- Emma (9/5): We loved the guest house and would stay again. - The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the premises. They did everything needed to make our trip comfortable.
- Sara (7/5): Scary history, functional accommodation - It was comfortable and in a great position. The views were beautiful and the staff were very friendly I was actually a bit freaked out that it had been an orphanage/girls home run by the Catholic Church. Very bad things definitely happened there not too long ago and that would be very triggering for many people. Other than that it was fine, especially for the price.
- Gospel (7/5): Lovely historic place on a busy weekend. - It was a lovely old building that has an amazing history. The staff were very polite and helpful though we only saw them at check in and when there was a power outage due to a storm. We were also upgraded to an air-conditioned room which we were thankful for with our family in one room. For the price, it fulfilled our need of somewhere to sleep and shower. Very easy check out process. It was understandably a busy weekend of sporting, but the showers did not work well, with hot or cold, and no in between if the shower head worked. There was also no parking for us by the second night of stay, so we had park down the street. Toilets ran out of paper and many were missing soap again, likely to the high number of rooms booked.
- Betty (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dean (1/5): Bad -
- Kylie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jansons-edwards (6/5): Pleasant -
- Paul (7/5): We were happy with the accommodation and position. The setup works great for families or 1s & 2s. - The location was easy for us to walk to dinner and a short drive, 5 minutes each day, to Proctor Park for the Bathurst Cup competition. Air conditioning in the kitchen, dining, lounge area would be nice.
- Nathan (7/5): Functional and friendly. - Lyn and Jason were very accommodating and friendly, they were lovely. It was functional as a place to stay for two nights on our soccer trip, but that was probably it.
- Jason (9/5): Great place to stay for families and even a single person, clean, great staff and affordable - Beautiful building set in a very quiet surrounding. Family friendly with all the facilities you need, staff very helpful and friendly. Robyn the owner is such a lovely lady and willing to do whatever it takes to make your stay comfortable.
Will definitely stay here again in the future Nothing
- Madeleine (7/5): Perfect location and value for money - Staff were friendly and super helpful Facilities are a little dated
- Valentine (8/5): Very good -
- Iftikar (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Air conditioning was not working but we were given the fan. Apart from that everything was good.
- Emma (8/5): Had a great stay with no hassles. - Great location. Spotlessly clean. Friendly and helpful staff. The building has an excellent vibe with the antique furniture. Nothing
- Anna (5/5): Passable - The air conditioner wasn't working properly and there was no TV
- Burden (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mia (1/5): When we had a look at the room and facilities we decided on not staying. I paid $1100 for 5nights. - NOTHING we paid for 5 nights accommodation and didnt stay. Holmhurst would not refund our money. Firstly the Guest house is an old run down orphanage. The furniture is out dated at least over 20yrs old. It is not clean.
Our room had no electricity, they used an extension cord run from the next room. The beds were old and lumpy.
When we had a look at the room and facilities we decided not to stay. I paid $1100 for 5 nights accommodation.
I tried to get my accommodation fees waived by Booking.com and Holmhurst Guest House which unfortunately they did not allow. I left my accommodation and when we came back the next day they had gave our room to another family. So for the same days they got paid twice by 2 families for the 1 room which I did not cancel my reservation and showed the owner my reservation was still active.
- Dana (4/5): Disappointing - Location Barking dog, toilet water always running,no WiFi as advertised. Greeter was pollute BUT needs a belt or suspenders.
- Nockles (8/5): Very good -
- Rebecca (7/5): Good -
- Leanne (8/5): Very good - Close to all the places that we needed to go to. Safe and quiet parking around the back Clean and comfortable place to stay Would happily stay here again
- Chanel (8/5): Hidden gem with lush surroundings - Beautiful view and nature gardens, caring staff, and an interesting history of the building
- Daniel (8/5): For the price, you’ll get a comfortable place to crash whilst exploring the city of Bathurst. - Not too far away from shops, restaurants and the mountain. Balcony had a good view of the expansiveness of Bathurst. Showers had plenty of hot water and very good water pressure. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Price was very affordable and on par with what you are provided. Bed in our room was a little small for a couple but we managed. Doona/blanket we had was woeful but we made do with it. Not sure if towels/bathmats/flannelettes usually get exchanged daily but ours didn’t and we ended up taking wet towels back to our room. Staff that were around on Sunday only too happy to exhange for fresh bedding/towels but we weren’t aware we had to ask for it.
Not any fault whatsoever of the management, but there were plenty of inconsiderate folks staying at the same time as us. At one point my partner noticed whilst heading to the toilet that the shower was left running and had flooded the bathroom. Sunday night there were occupants of the room below us who were cackling and screaming well after midnight. They were also running around the back garden carrying on as well at points.
Par for the course during the school holidays period but people should be more considerate of the space and the fact that it’s shared with others.
- Merindah (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lyndee (10/5): Comfortable - Beautiful old world guest house.
Great location. Clean. Comfortable. Nothing.
- Mia (9/5): Superb - I stayed 2 nights with my friend. We really enjoyed the gorgeous architecture and vibe of the guest house. It's was super lovely to walk around the 120 year old building and it's garden.
The reception and lounge rooms were filled with beautiful antique furniture.
The staff were lovely and very approachable and the other guests were very friendly.
It was only a 20-25 minute walk to town.
- Lionel (4/5): Disappointing -
- Sylvia (8/5): Very good -
- Brett (6/5): Pleasant -
- Matt (9/5): Very pleasant & memorable stay in an historic old Bathurst Guesthouse with stunning verandah views - I love historic houses & heritage buildings so on entering up the driveway & seeing a substantial & significant 1904 built Victorian / Edwardian mansion standing proud up high over Bathurst I was instantly impressed. Originally a family home the Guesthouse also operated as St Joseph's Orphanage from 1915 - 1975 and welcoming old religious statuary of Jesus & the Virgin Mary mounted on pedestals greet guests in the front garden. The side wing of the building formerly housed a Catholic Chapel on the second floor. Spectacular views out over Bathurst from the long iron lace decorated upper-level verandah. Beds were comfortable. Good safe off-street parking available. Very quiet location. Although the single bed I had in room 12 was comfortable & clean it could have been a little higher off the floor.
The hot water in the shower took a little time to get hot which is understandable for a rambling old building which would have lots of old plumbing and for me wasn't that much of an issue & tolerable for the experience to stay in a Bathurst heritage icon.
- Rebecca (3/5): Poor -
- Marina (10/5): A peaceful place to stay with a small group, economical because you can make your own meals and enjoy them with views 😊 - It’s a beautiful heritage house. We were a group of 3 women who came to see a performance at the Bathurst Entertainment Centre. It was perfect for us to be able to use the full kitchen facilities for our dinner and breakfast. It was so peaceful and the hosts are very kind and helpful ☺️
- Edward (10/5): Exceptional -
- Norman (3/5): Poor -
- Paula (8/5): Very good -
- Alan (5/5): Met my needs for a bed overnight whilsy up for the football. - It was in the middle of town and close to everything. Staff were friendly and showed me around the facilities when I arrved. The bed was aweful. The matress was old and lumpy and very difficult to get comfortable on. The linen and pollows were fresh and clean
- Bill (9/5): A unique place and experience - OK. So this was more like a hostel than a guesthouse. It is in a lovely old building which was in itself fun and interesting. It is in its early days of operation and will no doubt develop over time. For now it would not be for everyone, but if you had a group of friends who wanted to share time out of your rooms there are communal areas and verandahs, including some with superb views over the town and countryside.
- Melissa (9/5): Very accomodating and staff were available and helpful. - The hosts were lovely ☺️ Nothing at all.
- Anna (10/5): Excellent accommodation, clean and great value for money - excellent value for money. nice and clean. great location nil
- Kristina (8/5): Very good -
- Brown (8/5): Very good -
- Kristina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jacob (8/5): Very good -
- Klaus (9/5): Superb - Perfect location for our soccer tournament.
Shared kitchen facilities available, easy to prepare breakfast and dinner and have it on one of the verandahs with amazing views.
- Sally (4/5): No flexibility on check in times - Easy to park Shabby and uncared for entrance
No flexibility on check in times
Suggested we cancel our stay if we couldn’t make check in times knowing full well we could not get a refund
Room basic and serviceable
