- Nina (10/5): Gorgeous farm stay with amazing animal experience! - What a fabulous location to spend a weekend. The majority of animals are rescued animals and so they are so tame and friendly. The farm tour (held Sat/Sun) was a real highlight - we learnt so much and being so up close and personal with the animals was such a treat. Sitting on the deck watching the stars was something we'll never forget - oh and the deck spa was a wonderful surprise too! It is about 10mins from town, so be sure to take supplies so you can enjoy the self catering, especially at night!
- Hayley (9/5): We had a peaceful, relaxing farm stay surrounded by beautiful scenery, friendly animals, and a truly welcoming atmospher - Quiet, clean and family friendly. The owners and animals were lovely and welcoming.
- Liddiard (10/5): - Quirky but very comfortable with lovely owners and wonderful animals. Very clean. A great place to relax. Nothing. All as expected.
- Tracy (10/5): An amazing experience I would recommend to all. - The love for the animals was obvious from the moment we arrived and greeted by Jane and her entourage of beautiful dogs.
Wandering around the property talking to the animals at our leisure was amazing. The way they all come running over for a scratch, a pat or just to say hello was a fantastic experience for ourselves and especially the children.
Jane took our bird crazy 4 year old into the cocky avairy and he just cant stop talking about Crackers playing catch. Only problem is now he wants one of his own.
- Carly (10/5): Highly recommend 5 stars - The property was great. Large rooms, great bathroom and fully stocked home. It was very comfortable stay The fact that the listing says swimming pool when it’s a hot tub/ swim spa not a pool. This is very misleading.
- John (9/5): A great place to unwind. - I really enjoyed my stay at this farm stay. The property was peaceful, the hosts were welcoming, and the animals and surroundings made it a relaxing break from the city. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, and everything felt easy and laid‑back. I’d happily come back for another stay.
- Catarina (10/5): - The stay at Sandalwoods Downs was absolutely fantastic! It exceeded our expectations in so many ways that it's hard to mention just one highlight! My 2 children and I found the chalet to have great conditions: comfy and clean beds; perfect lounge room to chill in the evening watching movies; outdoor set up perfect for BBQ and meals on the front deck; well equipped laundry and bathroom, and so much more!
- James (10/5): We’ll be back in spring to experience farm life again. - Family friendly property with great hosts and beautiful animals. The dogs, Cindy, Harry, Jasper and Sharde were a hit with our grand children.
- Denise (10/5): Fabulous place. - Everything Nothing
- rheanna (7/5): - The Location, its so peaceful sitting on the veranda or playing games on the front lawn.
the animals seemed happy and friendly.
Wooden kids playground / all streaming platforms on the TV, quick WiFi.
The owner was friendly & left complimentary bread/ milk etc. our expectations were so high from the reviews of this place that we were a little underwhelmed when comparing to other farms we have stayed.
The "jacuzzi" was pool temperature (27°) too cold to stay in, which was disappointing.
BBQ was dirty with old food and not all burners working.
- Rebekah (10/5): It was worth it, and trying to plan how soon we can go back! - As a family we were able to experience animals personally, and the staff were exceptional in including our daughter in feedings. Even with ensuring there was a full tour of the facility upon arrival
- Best (10/5): Do yourself a favour and check out Sandalwood Downs - Jane and Marx were the most wonderful hosts, we loved learning all about the animals and our two neurodiverse kiddos were in their element amongst nature and their fam friends. An amazing location and accommodation, we will be making this farm stay an annual event for our family. Can't fault Sandalwood Downs at all
- Loki (10/5): A warm and welcoming experience from the moment you arrive. - From the moment you pass through the gate, you're greeted by a delightful chorus of guinea fowl and the warm welcome of furry friends. The atmosphere is instantly inviting, setting the tone for a truly memorable day.
Hosts Jane and Mark are the heart and soul of this charming farm. Their passion for what they’ve created is evident in every detail—from the lovingly cared-for animals to the thoughtful layout of the property. Their genuine hospitality makes you feel less like a visitor and more like a part of their extended farm family.
Whether you're an animal lover, a nature enthusiast, or simply looking for a peaceful escape from the city, this farm offers a wholesome and enriching experience. It’s a beautiful reminder of the joy that comes from connecting with animals, nature, and kind-hearted people.
Highly recommended for families, couples, or solo adventurers looking to unwind either for a day or an overnight stay in their beautiful bungalow, and reconnect with the simpler things in life. I did not want to leave to be honest.
- Tanmaye (9/5): Great family weekend getaway - Great hosts, well organised farm tour, lots of space, variety of animals and birds, evening fire pit, clean
, ride in the vintage fire truck List of rules can get intimidating but I guess it’s better to have them rather than relying on “common sense”

- Vijesh (10/5): A Soulful Escape at Sandalwood Downs – Unforgettable in Every Way - Our recent stay at Sandalwood Downs Fabulous Farm Stay was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, Jane and Marc welcomed us not just as guests but as family. Their warmth, generosity, and genuine hospitality created an atmosphere that was both comforting and uplifting.
We were greeted by their delightful puppies: Harry, Jasper, Lulu, and Chardet. Each had their own charming personality and an endless appetite for pats and belly rubs. They instantly won over our hearts and set the tone for what would be a truly special experience.
This was our first ever farm stay and it far surpassed anything we imagined. Forget petting zoos—this was immersive, authentic, and deeply moving. Jane’s personal tour of the farm was a highlight, not just for the hands-on experience but for the stories behind each animal. Knowing that every creature was a rescue added a layer of meaning that touched us deeply. It’s rare to find a place where compassion and care are so beautifully woven into the experience.
Days have passed since our visit and yet our children are still talking about it with wide-eyed wonder. The memories made here will stay with us forever. Sandalwood Downs isn’t just a place to stay. It’s a place to feel, connect, and be inspired.
Thank you, Jane and Marc, for opening your hearts and your home. We can’t wait to return. It did get a little chilly during the night but it’s not a deal breaker.
- Alysha (10/5): Highly recommend for all ages. - Beautifully presented, lots to do for the kids and the animals we’re all so friendly. Very safe and Jane and Mark were extremely accommodating
We went on a wintery, rainy day and the kids loved the muddy puddles and being out in their gumbos and rain jackets playing with the animals Nothing! Just all round fantastic
- Ginette (6/5): Beautiful location. House too cold to visit in winter. - Lovely location. Clean, comfortable facilities. Well stocked amenities. Farm surrounds and animals extremely healthy and well cared for. Extremely cold. Heating available in living area only and simply not adequate for winter. Also, not private enough. Accommodation divided by a connecting internal door to the property owners.
- Lisa (10/5): The best place to holiday!!! - ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
The animals, the farm experience, the accommodation, beautiful! My daughter is now convinced that she wants to own a farm when she's older. It was such a beautiful, peaceful experience, and my girls got to experience the country life for the first time. It was very cold, but we embraced everything, we have always holidayed in the summer, and I wanted a winter holiday experience for once.
Jane and Marc were super nice and involved my girls in everything during our stay. So sad to leave. We have already booked our next stay! Nothing.
- Stephen (10/5): Hidden treasure - A Jen!
- Amy (10/5): Perfect spot for a mini-vacation - Amazing place to stay. Beautiful property, great attention to detail, friendly and relaxing.
The kids loved it!
- Pauline (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bodi (9/5): Amazing first time farmstay! - The property was nice and cozy. But the true highlight was having the animals so near. The kids really bonded with the dogs— Harry, Jasper, Sharde, Cindy (they’ll always remember their names!). As well as with kangaroo Tammy! The property was big, and one could have a walk with the alpacas and cows in the morning. The baby goats and sheep were super endearing. There were so many animals, and it was really an experience to have them so up close. Mark and Jane were super hospitable and approachable!
- Caroline (10/5): Fantastic, loved it - Fantastic set up. Lovely accommodation. Animals are just the most fun to be around. It was cold inside the property. If you are visiting in Winter bring thermals to wear. There is heating but you have no control over the temperature.
- Jack (10/5): It was phenomenal, and I would highly recommend this place to anyone who would like to stay at a farm but still have a c - It was spacious, had clean toilets, and had a working heater, which was essentially, since it was very cold. The toilet had no heater and the floors were cold but there was hot water.
- Ter (9/5): Fantastic encounter with animals, great time with the dogs, and lots of space to roam and explore - Amazing animals at the farm, the space and especially the welcoming dogs. The shower (hot) water can be more consistent.
- R (10/5): Exceptional -
- Debra (10/5): Jane & Marc were great hosts and we greatly enjoyed getting to know the animals, beautiful sunsets in the outdoor sp - Beautiful surrounds, very comfortable accommodation, great hosts and the wonderful animals. The night sky was spectacular for star gazing.
- Marianna (7/5): Good -
- Dimitrios (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lyndal (7/5): Ok and may suit younger families. - Nice clean rooms with good amenities such as fridge, microwave and spacious shower and bathroom. Owners were very nice. A common wall with the owners and you could hear everything and likely they could hear everything that you did, so privacy was a concern. So we tiptoed all the time after 8pm as I knew the owners had an early start.
The floorboards were very loud too so every step was loud in my opinion.
It is a farm stay and you could walk around and see some animals which was ok.
There was no feeding time (obviously owners choice) so this would be a great option if you had young children. Other farm stays I have stayed at do have this option.
- Chelsea (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kylie (10/5): A perfect place to celebrate my daughter’s birthday and love for animals. The cuddles with all the fur babies brought jo - Loved everything about the property.
- Chern (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rochelle (10/5): Very relaxing - The house is very beautiful, and so is the property. The front door is very heavy, the kids found it very difficult to get in and out by themselves.
- Nicky (10/5): Loved staying here, one of the best places in the region - Beautiful location, we loved visiting all the animals
- Claire (10/5): Amazing farm stay experience - Exceeded our expectations - such friendly and well-cared for animals and property. Lovely friendly owners too! Good facilities. Kids want to come back and stay for longer.
- Elie (8/5): A memorable multigenerational stay. - Location was beautiful and outdoor facilities were great. It was nice to be in the farm with the animals. Self-catering facilities were somewhat inconvenient.
- Tracey (10/5): Best Farmstay, fabulous service, highly recommend!! - Absolutely wonderful stay! 1 Couple plus 2 kids. The property is just lovely. Love the outdoor kitchen by the pool! House has all we need and a beautiful bathroom. Very well equipped. We booked the farm tour and it’s definitely worth it. We all loved getting up close and personal with all of Jane and Marc’s friendly animals. Ruby definitely is our favourite! Nothing was too much trouble for the owners. Great, personal and friendly service. What a genuinely lovely couple! The campfire area and nature play is fantastic too. Jane even provided marshmallows and sticks for all the kids! Above and beyond!
We also love their signs around the property! Great humour 😂
We don’t want to leave! Will definitely be back! We didn’t like leaving! 😂🤪
Highly recommend this place!
- Sara (2/5): Bad experience not outweighed by beautiful surrounding 👎👎👎 - The good
It’s a beautiful property, nicely done, lots to see and do, the kids loved the animals. The house is nice and spacious . The bad
From the start to finish the hosts were unbelievably rude, even immediately after booking by email. On arrival this person is immediately rude, yells at the kids (who are just being kids and excited to he somewhere new), tells my son he can’t shreak, is telling our children off for being children- when I stand up to her she says we can’t stay and she’s refunding our money. To which I say absolutely no way, I have saved for this for my son’s birthday and I’m here having driven a long way and unloaded the car regardless. She then sent her husband who was nicer than her - but overall disgusting behaviour from the host. She should not be renting out rooms to tourists and behaving like this. The entire time we were walking on eggshells to not be too loud and upset the dragon, which is not a nice thing to have to do. And both were rude at checkout too, we were not told a time and did the tour (not included in our accommodation fee btw) as soon as the tour ended they were both telling at us to get out of the room immediately as check out was 10.30 - but the tour we paid for was until 11am. They then proceeded to bang about starting to clean and shouting to get our stuff out - it was horrendous, I had just started making some burgers outside and was told I wasn’t allowed to and they hid my bread so we couldn’t have our burgers and which they magically found when I asked if they’d seen it and lied about it being in the fridge which I’d already checked.
Overall I would never return unless I didn’t have to see those awful people during the stay.
- Kelly (9/5): We had a wonderful stay and are keen to make this a yearly tradition. - Very comfortable, welcomed by owners, well resourced, beautifully set up.
- Val (7/5): Good - The variety and amount of friendly animals.
The cottage was comfortable, room and clean!
- Alphons (9/5): Great place ,well appointed great bed and nothing missing. - All good very happy, very nicely decorated.
Lots of animals.
Beautiful decking with view. Not sure nothing missing
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Taryn (7/5): Great location, great hosts, great animals - just lacking a little in comfort and breakfast could be better! - Lovely animals and grounds! Great big spacious rooms/bathroom etc. Friendly hosts! Big beautiful bathroom but no heating made it very cold and quite uncomfortable for an elderly couple. Heating in main area was also lacking as it was on a timer and at a set temperature that you couldn’t adjust. Given the price the breakfast was also disappointing.
- Julian (9/5): Great farm experience not too far from the city. - The outdoor experience was amazing. Being able to roam freely among the farm animals and interact with them was the highlight of the trip. Great concept! The toilet lights run on a fixed timer and cuts off after a short time.
- Kylie (10/5): Fabulous place to stay -
- Bernard (10/5): Jayne and Marc are great hosts ,helpful and friendly - Excellent facilities.great environment for guests and visitors. The great variety of animals and birds, all so loved and cared for by Jayne and Marc ,are so people friendly. This 3 day farmstay exceeded our expectations and we want to visit again There is nothing that we didn't like.
- Tanya (8/5): Very good -
- Rebekah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marty (10/5): Relaxing, interactive and family friendly - Great accomodation, Marc & Jane were very helpful throughout our stay. Our kids loved all the animals and had the best time learning and interacting with them all. Was definitely a lovely relaxing and enjoyable stay- we are already planning when to go back! Nothing
- Chloe (9/5): We had such a memorable and lovely time and will be back! Thank you - Fantastic place for a family holiday. We loved going on the tour with all the animals. We even hugged camels. We also loved sitting around the campfire in the evenings roasting Marshmallows. The owners are so friendly, generous and kind. The only thing we didn't love was the kitchenette set-up in the apartment. Everything was there that we needed but things were a bit disjointed ie. sink is separate to the kitchette for example. All the benefits of the place however far outweighed these minor issues.
- Strawson (10/5): Way more than what we expected, ticked all the boxes with flying colors, quite an experience. - Ticked every box with flying colors. Was an added bonus to have a hike around the grounds and experience some truly incredible panoramic scenery. We weren't prepared for the tec and spa available which was an unwanted distraction for the young teen girls accompanying us.
- Kelsey (9/5): A wonderful family weekend in the country - Such a lovely property, with a comfortable cottage and a fantastic campfire area where we could eat dinner, toast marshmallows and chat with other guests and let the kids play and make friends. So many beautiful different animals to interact with, that were all so gentle with the kids. The kids would have happily stayed a week! You can walk freely around the farm and up into the hills and take in the gorgeous views. There was nothing we didn't like :)
- 2es (10/5): A beautiful farm - It's a beautiful place, and all the animals live happily here under the good care of the owner. We really enjoyed our time here.
- Kathryn (10/5): Exceptional - A lovely farm stay. Friendly animals. Very peaceful. Jame and Mark were very friendly and helpful.
- Nelson (10/5): Fabulous farm stay for families - Fabulous farm stay. Lots of beautiful animals, our kids really enjoyed the feeding time and being able to toast marshmallows by the fire.
- Johnny (10/5): an amazing magical stay that the whole family enjoyed the animals and the blissfull hosts jane and marc are an absolutel - nature at its finest and the farm animals were amazing and location is exceptional nothing
- Ying (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ranji (8/5): We lived the interaction with the animals! The hosts were very welcoming and we had the place to our - Breakfast was quite sufficent. Good variety. The beds could do with an upgrade.
It would have been great having a sink in the prep kitchenette area instead of going to the laundry. Or, perhaps have easier access to laundry area.
- Sarah (10/5): A rare diamond sandalwood downs will not let you down! Jane and Marc welcome our little family with welcoming arms and m - Sandalwood downs felt like home away from home.
- Candice (10/5): Exceptional -
- Johnson (10/5): A wonderful, relaxing family farm stay with our grandchildren. - Continental breakfast provided had many choices.
Our accomodation was comfortable, lovely decor with all our needs met. Always something to do during the day, exploring the farm or a short drive to town for supplies or more adventures. NA
- Chappell (9/5): Superb -
- Joyce (9/5): Excellent place for chilling. - Simple easy breakfast. Loved all the decor, very homely. Bed very comfortable. Loved the walk about the property and across the paddocks meeting all the animals. Hostess very obliging and friendly. Just general comments......
Kitchen prep, fridge, outside cooking all spread about in different locations. A bit unusual.
Did not care for camera on spa area. Privacy ?
Some kind of curtain on back door also for privacy purposes.
- Cathryn (8/5): Relaxing and peaceful farmstay. - Jane and Marc were so welcoming, warm and friendly. It was wonderful to explore the farm and meet all the beautiful animals. A very peaceful and relaxing location.
- Bruce (10/5): V.Great genuine Farm Stay. If farm animals is not you; find a demure B&B instead. - Exactly what we wanted from a real Farm Stay - many varieties of animals on v.large property. Animals raised to 'pet' style standards. Lots of Australian bush and lots of animals including pet farm animals. Accommodation is really nice and comfortable. Loved the animals especially the pet Emus, Sheep and goats. Hot Tub/large Spa added to experience. Nothing, completely meet our expectations. Visitors must have realistic expectations of a real Farm Stay experience with animal farm noises and experiences. It is a B&B on a real farm with lots of friendly and loveable pet animals.
- Anil (10/5): Exceptional - Both Marc and Jane were very accommodating hosts and the kids loved helping with the morning feeds.
Accommodation was clean and well presented with everything you need.
Look forward to our next visit 😁 Nothing comes to mind.
- Anupama (9/5): Superb -
- Axel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emma (10/5): Relaxing, wholesome getaway for animal lovers. - Very peaceful and calm place where nature entertains you. Animals are all very well looked after and everywhere is clean. The owners are super friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed everything!
- Alison (10/5): Gorgeous property perfect for a little getaway with the kids! - We recently stayed at sandalwood downs farm and enjoyed the beautiful accommodation. There was snacks and plenty of stuff to do for the kids. They loved running around and meeting/feeding all the gorgeous animals. The hosts were lovely and made sure everyone had a great time.
- Sarah (4/5): Disappointing - The area The owner would not let us use the whole spa on the day
- Matt (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kathryn (10/5): Great stay for my birthday. Will be back in winter to see the streams flowing - The owners were so lovely and welcoming. The animals friendly, the overall farm was clean. Highly recommend Everything was wonderful
- Evelyn (10/5): Fantastic! - Such a beautiful peaceful stop on our tour of WA. Jane and Marc were the perfect hosts as well. We weren’t sure what to expect of a farm stay even though we 4 “ seniors” are from farming backgrounds. We had a wonderful overnight stay and were treated to helping feed the animals. The bonus was the wee fawn that they were adopting after he was abandoned by his mother and taken to Sandalwood Downs for care. They truly love their animals and work hard to provide a safe and loving environment for them. Our accommodation was clean, spacious and everything we could ask for. Thanks so much for sharing with us!
- Christopher (10/5): Exceptional - The location was excellent and staying amongst all the animals are perfect Nothing
- Wells (8/5): Very good -
- Rose (10/5): Fabulous 👌 - We took our 3 1/2 yo granddaughter to experience an upclose and personal experience to a world of animals other than domesticated pets at home.
At first she was hesitant to interact but with help and encouragement from hosts Jane & Marc's she blossomed and was helping in any way she could to feed, entertain and observe the animals.
She loved it!
There were outdoor and indoor games available as well as a spa to relax in.
We will definitely come back and thoroughly recommend to anyone of any age.
- Kathrine (10/5): We had a great weekend away loved every minute of it. Great family friendly atmosphere and had the most relaxing time. - We loved everything about the property, the owners were lovely all the animals and house. Had to leave
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deidre (9/5): Loved staying at Sandlewood Downs, friendly relaxing farm atmosphere, would highly recommend it. - Lovely old homestead with beautiful modern features. Great well considered food provisions, enjoyed crumpets after a long day of travel from interstate. Enjoyed interaction with hosts, friendly dogs and access visiting farm animals. Beautiful countryside, lovely extensive views of Avon valley from atop of nearby hill. Varying floor levels between a couple of rooms could pose a trip hazard. Shower floor requires a larger non-slip bath mat to prevent slipping.
- Christine (10/5): Would certainly recommend this place to stay.Only 10 mins from town. - Breakfast was Continental, plenty too choose from
Very satisfied. The only thing I would say is that their is a lovely spa to use perhaps describe that as a spa not a pool.Owners are lovely & friendly & the property is perfect for a lovely quiet farm stay.
- Diane (10/5): Exceptional - The outlook from verandah, inside huge comfortable and beautiful decor, giant bathroom, Hosts, all the animals and birds and especially the dogs. Nope couldn't find anything to dislike
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bruce (9/5): Brilliant place for families with children (6-18yrs) to interact with farm animals. View surrounds. - The animals. The view of the countryside. The farm. The friendly emu's and the young goats. The pet dogs. The aviaries. The host's ability to help children interact with animals. Genuine farm stay in traditional but modernised accommodation. Provision of small combined compact oven/air fryer would help with meals. Microwave, toaster, grill and outdoor BBQ (not outdoor weather at time) only.
- Matthew (10/5): Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, accomodation was clean, comfortable and well equipped the owners were friendly and helpful - Excellent location, close enough to town for meals and sight seeing far enough away to be peaceful and quiet No dislikes
- Kristina (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing place!
- Garreth (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly, helpful and easy going hosts
Lots of farm animals to feed and hang out with
Firepit
Great fun for kids
Accommodation was clean, functioning and great view from balcony
- David (6/5): Pleasant -
- Rebekah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kelly (10/5): Exceptional - It's a home away from home feel, the grounds are beautiful, and the animals are obviously very loved Nothing
- Petar (10/5): You will not regret the stay, it’s relaxing and plenty of animals to pat and enjoy. - The location was perfect…… only an hour from our house in Guildford.
Farm is only about 10 mins from the town centre.
Hosts were friendly, helpful, hospitable and couldn’t fault them at all!
Animals included emus, alpacas, lambs, donkeys, bunnies and a plethora of birds including geese, peacocks, turkeys, chickens, roosters.
The accommodation was perfect. A beautiful homely feel complete with heaters (we stayed in winter).
The view from the accommodation looks out to animals - it’s beautiful
All the animals are super dooper friendly - our 3 year old was in heaven. No faults - perfect in our opinion
- Bywaters (10/5): Exceptional - The farm was tranquil and the hosts were friendly and helpful. The bungalow was excellent. No shoes inside as it was cold.
- Akvile (9/5): Superb -
- Tania (9/5): Superb -
- Yuko (10/5): Perfect farm stay with children to be surrounded by nature and farm animals! - The property is located away from shops etc but it did not matter because the place has plenty of things to explore and experience! The guest house has 2 bedrooms, living/kitchen area and specious bathroom. We loved how the house was presented. We fed rabbits, alpacas, lambs and donkeys, and wondered around the trail at this massive property. Kids got along well with dogs especially Harry. The kitchen was filled with necessary items (bread, spreads, cereals, milk, snacks, tea/coffee etc). Roasting marshmallows over the fire outside was fun, but we enjoyed every bit of our stay. Thank you Jane and Marc for the perfect stay!!
