Guest Reviews
- Keith (10/5): The place was perfect for our stay, everything we needed - Beautiful views across lake
- Sylvia (10/5): I’d happily stay again. - The property was well appointed and decorated very well. We needed for nothing, breakfast was provided along with numerous jams & toast toppings. So very pleased with all of it. The freeway & rifle range were close to the property, however we were not bothered by the noise, it just disturbed the peacefulness of the property just a little.
- Oliver (7/5): -
- Mark (9/5): A stay over on the way to the GC. - Quiet. Great surroundings
Spacious
Great decor. Homely feel NA
- Shannon (10/5): Lovely atmosphere, will be back again -
- Bianca (10/5): Scenic, relaxing stay - Was in a great location, the spa was much needed after a long drive.
House was clean, comfortable and a gorgeous view to look at when waking up.
- Vicki (9/5): - Beautiful setting next to the lake. Lovely accommodation and great breakfast.
- Lisa (10/5): Peaceful - Everything Nothing
- Erin (9/5): We will definitely come back again, we already tried but it was booked out - Great location, very comfy bed, beautiful furniture. Included breakfast, fresh eggs, bread, cereal, milk, butter and spreads. Aircon and beautiful soft linen, very good quality.
The owners were so lovely and friendly. When we arrived, we had to spray spiders throughout the cabin. Spay was provided, once we did this there were no more. No screens on back sliding doors or bedroom door.
- Peter (10/5): Everyone needs to experience the serenity of Lake Russell. It needs to be on your bucket list. - Everything we needed was there, the location and views across the lily pad covered lakes was magnificent, sitting in the spa watching the water fowl and the Lace Monitor while kangaroos lay out the back was something everyone should experience. There was nothing whatsoever to dislike.
- Florence (10/5): -
- Adam (9/5): Fantastic stay in a great environment - The place was very spacious and a peaceful setting
- Carol (9/5): - The accommodation overlooking the lake was fabulous. Undercover parking.,Comfy bed, loungeroom was well appointed with lovely couches and cushions functional kitchen.
The outdoor spa was the perfect temperature Nothing we didn't like, although I would suggest a towell for the spa.
- Darren (10/5): - Location and the excellent breakfast provisions provided
- Rohith (9/5): -
- Nicky (8/5): -
- Hughes (10/5): Private, country stay with great views and wildlife. - Very private country location but only a 5 minute drive to the beach. Great views, wildlife, roomy accommodation.
- Jodie (5/5): A truly beautiful place to stay but with a few issues fixed would be even better. - The signage on arrival is fantastic, you won’t miss it! Driving down the driveway with kangaroos to greet you is just so special. The accommodation was private and relaxing. Breakfast inclusions were fabulous- something to suit everyone! The bugs spray, the games the books, it was a really lovely place to stay. Despite Booking.Com advising not to give credit card details over the phone, this was required as no one would be on site to take security deposit, I wouldn’t book if this was the case next time as the website clearly stated to pay security deposit time of arrival.
When we arrived at property we had not received cabin details, though staff answered phone call promptly and directed us to our stay, and said they would send through more information which did not eventuate, but we found instructions pinned to the wall inside doorway.
- Li Chong (7/5): - The jacuzzi spa was good. Spacious bathroom is good. Laundry facility is available. The non stick pan needs replacement as it was damaged & badly warped which makes it difficult to cook on the induction cooker.
- Rachel (10/5): -
- Sharon (9/5): Perfect spot for a little getaway - Quiet location and fantastic spa. Towels a bit scratchy, I prefer fluffy towels, but seriously that's a very minor thing.
- Ninik (9/5): - The property were clean, it's spacious and comfortable, we opt for breakfast included, Adele prepare an ample option of breakfast to cook (bread, eggs, milk, coffee, milo, tea, weetabix, jams etc) and she made a delicious pancake mix ready to use. we love the jacuzzi, after a long drive from Sydney it was a nice place to relax. It's hard to find the location especially during the night since it's dark and there is no sufficient lighting, they do put a yellow sign, there's two of them which is confusing and the correct drive way were concealed behind the yellow sign and the mailbox were tiny and concealed too so it's not that helpful, (would be better if they made some kind of archway instead) we drive past it twice, end up at the wrong property, end up calling the staff asking for direction.
- Kai (10/5): -
- Waqas (10/5): -
- Arman (10/5): - It is very clean, the host Adele is very responsive.
- Chantalle (10/5): - Such a beautiful, hidden gem. Tastefully decorated with an appropriately stocked breakfast.
The views are breathtaking to wake up to and just sit, relax, and unwind.
- Sandra (9/5): Couples paradise - Space. Quiet. Comfortable bed.
Great breakfast choices. Not much
- Sriharinath (10/5): -
- Kate (9/5): Superb -
- Brodie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Schilder-rosenow (10/5): Exceptional - We liked the lovely design and interieur of the cottage, the well equiped kitchen, the heated jacuzzi on a day with winter temp's and all the additions for a good breakfast ...and Netflix.
And we had a little visitor. We booked just one night.
- Sophie (1/5): The reviews and ratings to do no accurately reflect this accomodation. It was old, cold and dirty. We didn’t even get ou - Nothing
- Kewal (7/5): Good -
- Leanne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Holly (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely beautiful cottages, with modern interior, very comfortable and clean.
Large glass windows, open plan living area, and bedroom seperate, both show an amazing view of a sunrise over the lake on awakening.
Spa with a view, overlooking the lake, surrounded by native trees and animals passing through.
Peaceful, calming atmosphere with sweet little deck out on the lake, among waterlilies and native waterbirds.
A beautiful garden to explore, in a pristine environment.
The additions added by the host were amazing, with a good selection of tea, hot chocolate, coffee, a choice of spreads and cereals, with bread, butter and local eggs.
Well set up kitchen, with clean filtered water, and all the needed gear to cook for yourself.
- Melissa (9/5): Superb - Privacy and just the little extras. It was very well presented and inviting. No fuss at all with check in. That we had to leave.
- Lockie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Roberts (8/5): Very good -
- Eleni (8/5): Lovely quiet location with a relaxing atmosphere - The location was excellent and the scenery was lovely. The Sofa couch was very uncomfortable as a second bed the main bed was ok
- Tracey (9/5): Nice quiet place with a peaceful view. - The place is decorated well.
The view out the window to the lake is lovely and peaceful. The pillows weren’t great.
No screens on sliding doors.
- Barton (9/5): Superb -
- Richard (10/5): Restful accomodation near beaches, hilltop views overlooking Coffs Harbour. - Had quite a few nice thoughtful elements like filtered water, maps. Food provisions were fine with pancake mix, eggs and more. Bed was good, spa at right temperature. Kangaroos friendly next door. More screen doors would ensure less mosquito bites for fresh air.
- Abeed (8/5): Spacious family retreat - Spacious and open living room/dinning area. Huge washroom. 2 large TVs with Netflix, and air con in both bedroom and living room. Compact backyard, Queen Bed mattress wasnt comfortable, sofa bed mattress was worse.
- Peter (8/5): Was a good comfortable accommodation - It was good location for us and the cottage was charming. Adele was great communicator and was patient as we were in a farm in Hunter and had poor to no reception. Place had what we needed and it was quiet. There was a nice compilation of information which was very handy. Not surprisingly, the sofa bed wasn't the most comfortable but I think that that's typical of sofa beds. On price, a bit expensive but then, we were there on a weekend and it was Christmas break so I think it probably was pretty good.
- D (10/5): Exceptional -
- Barry (10/5): Exceptional - Peace and quiet.....
- Barry (8/5): Very good - Comfort
- Joshua (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jodie (10/5): Exceptional -

- Leigh (8/5): Very good -
- Ian (8/5): lake Russell retreat review - very private and peaceful.
well appointed living area. bed felt old and not too comfortable, sheets were very thin and poor quality. bathroom was not as clean as I expect. sauna had sand in the bottom of it.
- John (9/5): Would certainly come back and recommend to friends - Breakfast was great. Choice was really good Very dangerous slippery floor in shower No grab bars in shower
- Wendy (10/5): One of the best accommodations we have ever stayed in. Highly recommended - Serenity and beauty aside a gorgeous lake. Attention to detail and great communication with Adele. Small but comfy, cosy bed. Spacious. Handy gas BBQ. Laundry facilities so handy! That we only had one night there!
- Darryl (9/5): Superb -
- Barry (10/5): Quiet and comfortable in a serene environment. - A quiet ambience.?.... One has to accept the occasional noises from water tank motors etc.
- Barry (10/5): Exceptional - Quiet and comfortable.....homely ! Nil.....
- Christine (10/5): Beautiful nights stay, lovely outlook over the lake and very peaceful and private. - Beautiful, clean and quiet location.
- Fiona (10/5): Excellent value for money and a wonderful stopover - Everything - a great cottage Road noise
- Anna (9/5): Nice place that is a bit different to the normal, very clean and comfortable - Very spacious and has a lovely feel to the place, extremely clean and lots of good instructions on hand. The living area is huge and has a reverse cycle air con which was good as very cold night. also has a reverse air con in bedroom. huge bathroom and lovely outlook to lake with outdoor spa. We did not use spa as it was about 5 degrees out. Host left a great selection of breakfast items including bread and eggs in fridge and cereals and spreads. A larger bed would have been lovely - its only a double and used to a king. The freeway noise does carry over depending on which way the wind is going etc but wasn't terrible. There is nothing within walking distance but quick car trip and you have restaurants and shopping available.
- Catherine (10/5): We’ll be back - Tasty and abundant. Attention to detail was exceptional and the bed was superb . Hot tub just outside made it one delicious weekend It was everything w were looking for so what’s not to like
- Maryanne (7/5): Convenient comfortable stop on the other side of Coffs Harbour when travelling north. - Well catered for
Good location
Very spacious The price and the photos gave me very high expectations. The accommodation and spa are old but well kept.
- Johnson (10/5): Exceptional -
- Duncan (10/5): Exceptional - Size, location, provisioning and cleanliness. Nothing
- Danielle (9/5): Superb - Location was absolutely beautiful, although close to the freeway, it was still quiet in the cottage and if sitting outside the lake and nature distracted you from any traffic noise. Sorry the photos attached may not match the title/description.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Trevor (7/5): Very comfy, lovely spot just a shame about the traffic noise - Loved everything about the place except the highway noise The traffic noise was really disappointing.... spoilt the ambience of the outdoor area
- Martin (10/5): Really enjoyed it as a midway stopover between the Gold Coast and Port Stephens. - The breakfast was basic but adequate.
The surroundings were picturesque overlooking the lake with wildlife such as waterfowl, lizards and birds.
The cottage was clean and comfortable.
Nice peaceful location.
Liked it so much have booked it for the return trip. Nothing much at all.
- Tasma (9/5): Beautiful spot, very comfortable and great for our family for the short trip. I would recommend. - This is such a pretty spot and was so relaxing for what was a busy weekend with our children for a music camp. The cottage was immaculate and really comfortable. The children loved the spa. I could not fault it and the owners were really easy to deal with. I would love to stay there again.
- David (9/5): Excellent retreat close to nature - Very clean, modern and well equipped Very remote
- Mae (10/5): Another entry in our stay again scrap book. - Peaceful location. Mccubbin lodge was modern clean and roomy. Comfy beds. Wildlife including Kangaroos excited the kids.
Breakfast inclusions and snacks. Nothing !!
- Kevin (7/5): Good location and facilities love sitting outside watching sun rise over lake relaxing - Great quiet location relaxing atmosphere Well included breakfast I thought it was cooked for us but realised we had to do ourselves then when we went to cook the power went off we didn’t think the water too so no breacky plus there was a strange smell like sewage outside the back particularly after flushing toilet
- Stephanie (9/5): Would book to stay again - Very close easy to get to Not much
- Michael (2/5): Overpriced better off going to a motel nearby. - Nice big area spacious rooms. Few bugs were in the house as it’s by the lake which is to be expected we kept the windows shut but they still managed to get in. There was also a some spiders webs and spiders inside.
- Wares (3/5): a bit disappointed didn't look like photo. - the bed was comfortable view was ok air conditioner worked well very musty smell gave my wife asthma attack, ants in shower. no screens on back doors no curtains on back side of unit only in bed room
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Catherine (10/5): The place and location was excellent really peaceful spa was so relaxing will definitely be coming b - The breakfast was a really good idea plenty of choice eggs were just on the verge of being frozen Just the smell of sewerage in the afternoon and early morning
