Guest Reviews
- Elaine (10/5): What a beautiful little find. Amazing view and so very peaceful. Loved every minute of our stay. - View and location was amazing. Loved the ducks visiting. Nothing not to like
- Michelle (6/5): Blue Cottage in Straghan - The location was lovely. The cottage was quaint and the waterview/ducks
were a lovely memory. The kitchen/living are were good! The shower is a bit of a train wreck. You cannot keep it clean because the tiles have failed for some reason. Having a shower in there because of hygiene reasons is not ideal. Mould issues. Coffee pod machine did not work. Iron/ironing board supplied is a nice touch as well.
- Carla (10/5): -
- Michelle (9/5): Wonderful stay! - Fantastic location with great views. Cottage was lovely to stay in and very comfortable. A lot of history with the cottage and surrounds which was great.
- Emma (8/5): Very good value for money and would definitely stay again. The hosts were very helpful. - Location is stunning. The ducks were super friendly and fun to feed. Lounge is uncomfortable.
- Anna (10/5): -
- Regina (9/5): We had a lovely time. Every morning having a cup of coffee looking over the lake then every evening a glass of wine wait - Such a quaint cottage in such a lovely spot. So quiet so beautiful
- Alan (10/5): So relaxing. - Beautiful location. Lovely ,clean house. Great views. Well stocked kitchen. Lovely reading material. Close to town. Great amenities. Loved the ducks.
- Anthony (10/5): Peaceful location and comfy interior with a great bed - Peaceful location with excellent view. Comfortable bed. Great bath. A relaxed homely feel with the addition of a hammock and Jayak to use on the water . The ducks are friendly!
All kitchen needs on site
- Geoff (10/5): -
- John (10/5): Beautiful - Best place we’ve ever stayed anywhere.
- PETER (5/5): Out of the way and very little privacy. - The view of the bay The cottage was not sign posted, therefore hard to locate. It was so close to all other cottages we could hear and see what others were doing. One of the arms fell off the deck chair when Pete sat on it. The bin outside was full with no room for our rubbish. All eating places were a fair distance. We couldn’t walk anywhere. A fellow cottage owner is renovating her shack and we came home to verandah and grass covered in blue paint specs. The neighbour offered to hose down our outside wall. Sh did so. Just wasn’t what we were expecting.
- Benn (9/5): Exactly what we needed for our NY escape. - The view and neighbours were lovely.
Peaceful. Overall I would recommend this property. Difficult to locate as the sign has deteriorated on the cabin. The patio furniture hasn’t been cleaned in a while.
- Guest (9/5): Charming, lovely little cottage right on the water - Jay was great at communicating, and when he heard my wife was keen to kayak was super helpful in organising that for us.
Location is sublime, all of the little artistic touches are great! We'll be back :)
- Megan (9/5): Beautiful location on the waterfront at Lettes Bay with the creature comforts of home. - Beautiful location on the waterfront at Lettes Bay with the creature comforts of home. The property was clean, comfortable and well equipped. For longer stays, just be aware that you are working with a mini fridge.
- Stephanie (9/5): Quaint and comfortable - Fabulous spot - quiet, cottage has everything you need
- Anne (10/5): Wonderful stay in a quaint cottage in a beautiful location. - Absolutely loved the location. Cottage was clean, very comfortable, well provisioned and beautifully decorated. Contact & communication with owner easy. Nothing we didn’t like.
Perhaps a larger, clearer sign with house number would make it easier to find as we arrived late at night & whilst the directions were very clear, the cottage was not marked clearly.
- Stuart (1/5): An absolute disaster AND…no suggestion of any refund from the owners 🤷♂️🤷♂️ - The view and waterfront location…but that was “it”! Here is the letter I sent to the owners after checking-out after one night (of paid for 3 nights accommodation:
Dear Kate,
We have just checked-out of your Cottage and, to be frank, we would not have stayed the night but for the isolation of the place and our tiredness from the long trip here.
As you are aware, we had a great deal of trouble trying to get either the television or Netflix to work. We failed on both counts.
No written instructions could be found to assist us and there is no legible number “67” at the road side of the building.
I suggest some brief written instructions would greatly assist boarders at the Cottage. I acknowledge that your husband sent us a text message in response to my phone call seeking help yesterday; however, by then it was too late.
I found the Cottage rather noisy from banks and rattles and somewhat cold.
A used sock lay next to the bed on arrival and frankly, the bed appeared to have recently been slept in. Why so? By reference to marks on the base sheet, hair on the pillows etc
I’m sure the Cottage may be pleasant in warm summer months providing the issues I raise above are addressed; however for my wife and I, this will go-down as something we would not wish to do again.
For completeness, I mention that we arrived, sometime after 1:00pm yesterday, the kitchen fan cover lay broken on the floor. I suspect the immediately preceding storm may have been the cause. The fan cover now sits on the bench inside the front door along with the ‘found’ sock).
Yours sincerely,
Stuart Edwards
- Claudia (10/5): -
- Feldmann (8/5): We arrived too late to truly appreciate the place. - Picturesque, views & ducks. Heating the cottage was a little frustrating in terms of figuring out your mechanisms & time frame.
- Dale (8/5): Very good -
- Natasha (9/5): We loved this little cottage it was everything and more than we expected.Owners weee very helpful also - The property was original very warm and comfortable. The view from the cottage is perfect and available facilities could allow people to stay as long as they wish. This is not something we didn’t like but it is out of Strahan a little so if you want to be in the main area it is not for you. For us this was perfect quiet and out of the way.
- Rene (9/5): Our stay was very comfortable - Loved the location. Being on the water was so gorgeous. The name " The Artist Cottage" lived up to its name Bathroom vanity.Minimal storage for suitcases or clothes.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional accommodation in a beautiful and relaxing location. - Exceptional accommodation in a beautiful and relaxing location.
- Kim (10/5): A very pleasant cottage in great position. With ducks! - Position and view. All amenities provided worked well. The ducks were lots of fun.
- Rodney (9/5): Great location - The couch in the lounge room.
- Jason (8/5): Very good -
- Danica (8/5): Very good -
- Andrew (7/5): Good - Located only 5 minutes drive from Strahan, the Artists Cottage is a quirky, comfortable place to stay a few nights.
- Graham (7/5): Definitel better on the inside than the outside. The renovation on the inside was good but the duck shit around the outs - Probably not exactly what we were expecting. Definitely read better in the promo for the place
- Sue (10/5): Absolutely lovely, enjoyed the whole experience - I loved the location, especially the water view. The cottage was lovely and comfortable and I just enjoyed the experience of staying in a fishing shack. Only thing would be to have a little fence around the verandah so the ducks don't poo everywhere and it ends up in the house 😂😂
- Butler (6/5): Pleasant - Peace and quiet plus the ducks The saw horses next to the lounge are DANGEROUS. I fell down the step into the bedroom because it wasn't fixed to the lounge.
- Carol (6/5): Pleasant - Location is nice No aircon
Not enough opening windows.
No fly wire door so it warm weather it’s very hot
Inside.
- Debra (9/5): Superb -
- Egon (7/5): Good - Great waterfront location. Inside, the cottage was very clean and had lovely athmosphere. Tricky to find since the street number and cottage name was no longer legible from the street.
Great reception from the ducks, however, their droppings rendered the deck almost unusable.
- Wendy (8/5): Memorable , picturesque cottage especially for duck lovers - Unique shanty style dwelling on the water front. Peaceful setting except for the ducks. Well appointed, clean and very comfy if small bed. Picture window to the water. Aesthetics matched the description. Although initially pleasing to be greeted by over 20 ducks, the duck poo and their insistence made sitting on the veranda impossible. Only one night stay so didn’t have anything to feed them and the tub labelled seed was empty. Mini bar ( on an honour system) did not exist.
- Robyn (9/5): Beautifully appointed accommodation with great outlook and serenity - Location and uniqueness. Beautifully decorated and so peaceful. Lovely experience and unexpected gem Duck poo
- Robyn (9/5): Very relaxing location with outdoor seating and water view. - Lovely waterfront location complete with friendly, hungry ducks. Bathroom basin was the tiny one you sometimes find in toilets. No room for toiletries. We had to brush our teeth at the kitchen sink. Shower tiles had water coming up from beneath when we stood on them. No catch on bedroom window. Could easily be opened from outside.
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sue (9/5): Loved sitting on the veranda and enjoying the view - Everything, the bath was fabulous with excellent hot water. All round it was very cute and well thought through If I was being very picky, the very cute ducks do make a mess on the veranda and it could do with a clean before guests arrive. I’m sure within 24 hours it will be just as messy
- Melanie (10/5): A rustic cottage in a peaceful and beautiful location . - A unique location in a quiet bay on the waterfront . The cottage was very comfortable and set up well for an enjoyable stay near Strahan . Lots of thoughtful touches throughout .
- Jaimi (8/5): Very good -
- Claudia (9/5): Lovely quirky place to stay - Super cute and an interesting place to stay. Cottage was well equipped, stayed one night but a could have happily stayed longer. Enjoyed the ducks, the view and the fire pit
- Nicola (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jill (8/5): Very comfy cottage - Very quiet location, bit out of town but beautiful spot Nil
- Stephanie (10/5): Exceptional - I could not fault a single thing. Highly recommend staying here. So peaceful. Most comfortable bed and pillows ever. Literally has every little thing you need. Bathroom and kitchen new, clean, well equipped - perfection. Could not recommend more highly!
- Andrei (8/5): Small waterfront cottage perfect for an overnight stay - A small (but, importantly, not tiny) cottage with all facilities fairly close to Strahan jetty suited perfectly for an overnight stay (in our case before Gordon river cruise). Fifteen or so metres from the porch to the waterfront. Some artwork to look at and art materials to use. And a whole lot of ducks expecting to be fed (with the food provided)! The description on Booking.com is something like "1 bedroom bed and breakfast" which is really confusing, had to re-check the property on Airbnb to make sure it suits us. The street sign begs for a facelift, can be an issue finding the place after dark. Don't expect absolute privacy as there is a host of cottages packed together, but absolutely no issues with neighbours in our case.
- Cheryl (5/5): Basic accommodation with a great view & quiet. - View No tea or coffee
Very basic
Cheap towels
- Malcolm (7/5): More expensive than virtually all commercial sites in and around Strahan, maybe ok for a day, but not multiple days. - Comfortable bed, good shower. Very nice bath but couldn't find a plug.
Only cutlery I could find was in a picnic basket.
NBN was present but the password was not obvious.
Tiny table
- Vanessa (10/5): Wonderful - I loved everything about this little house. We even extended our stay because we didn't want to leave. The host was very accommodating and willing to help. Leaving
- Vanessa (10/5): Perfect - Our host was very accommodating and helpful when we needed assistance with our booking. We extended our stay an extra night which was no problem either. The little house was a perfect size for the two of us, it was clean, cost and well renovated inside. We found it to be very cute. Going in the off season was ideal for us, with only a few other houses having people in them. We were there for a storm and some wild west coast weather that we enjoyed watching from the big lounge room window. It was a charming little town. Thank you so much for our stay! Not a thing
- Matt (7/5): Lovely spot, ducks were a great surprise. Enjoyed the stay. - Beautiful home, well presented and in a perfect location. If there was a welcome booklet/guide to say where you could find a lighter, use of fire pit, extra toilet paper, use of kayak, cleaning expectations etc. that would be helpful.
- Ruth (10/5): The perfect place to relax and recharge those batteries - The tranquility and the duck reception Trying not to walk duck poop through the cottage
- William (8/5): Pleasant, restful, stay in tranquil setting. - Made our own Bathroom sink too small, shelf over the top of it too low
- Vicki (8/5): Lovely cottage with character and charm - The cottage had lovely character and charm. The kitchen was well equipped and we cooked our own meal during our stay. The bed was the most comfortable bed I have slept in. It was all lovely including the ducks 😀
- Zoe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pasculli (8/5): Very good -
- Jayne (7/5): Good -
- Robyn (8/5): we enjoyed it very much - Location was great Storage for personal toiletries was lacking. The basin under the shelf in the bathroom was too low and the basin too small.
- Mark (9/5): Superb - Situated right on the water which was very pleasant . Had a family of ducks that came around in the evening and morning . Even with the instructions its a shade difficult to find once one arrives. A number on the back side of the home facing the road would help. We had a car so easy to get to downtown. Would be a decent walk if you didnt have transport.
- David (7/5): Different - The location The gaps under the doors and around the windows
- Karen (6/5): Pleasant enough. - Eclectic in design, out of the way, quaint. Given the wrong code for the key box, issues with communicating with owners to retrieve correct code due to limited service, relying too much on technology and internet service very poor in the area we were staying.
Windows did not have screens, only able to open one window, no screen on doors. Gras surrounding cottage was not mowed and was messy.
- Toni (3/5): I only stayed one night as this is not the state of accommodation I book through Booking.com - I had to kill geckos in the house and blowflies.
Clean dirty wine glasses
Deal with a power outage with no matches for a candle
Rattling bedroom window all night.
Brush our teeth in kitchen sink as cannot get mouth over bathroom basin Poor
- Shaun (10/5): Exceptional - Stunning accommodation, very comfortable. Makes you escape from the world
- Hui (10/5): Exceptional - Very artistic
- Jo (10/5): Perfect for couples - A beautiful traditional Tassie shack right on the waters edge. Perfect location, well stocked and comfortable. A very small negative was a couple of the items of food left to use were out of date/not useable ie butter and ice cream.
- Graham (3/5): Poor -
- Samantha (8/5): Serene and picturesque. - Lovely weekend getaway
- Josh (10/5): Perfect place to unwind solo after a week bushwalking with 7 mates. - Everything. nothing
- John (8/5): Very nice and lovely place to stay and extremely relaxing. - My wife loved the art and craft supplies that could be used as part of the stay. It was a very beautiful outlook and place to stay. Duck poo at the front door but it didn't worry my wife - she liked the ducks
- Jezamine (10/5): Gorgeous cottage! - Beautiful peaceful location, the view from the porch and front window were to die for. The cottage is very modern and stylishly decorated. Bed was nice and comfortable. Nothing!
- Jo (7/5): Good -
- Rose (9/5): Just lovely! - Very quirky and just beautiful. Our stay was great, everything and more than we needed. The ducks were very entertaining! If I have to say anything negative the lounge wasn’t really comfy and the step out of the bedroom into bathroom not great probably a little dangerous in the middle of the night but not too sure how you can fix this!
- Megan (8/5): Very good - The scenery was great The sofa bef
- Wendy (10/5): The ducks, the location, the peace and quiet. Central for the Gordon River Cruises. Loved this quaint place. - Everything!!!
The hosts have not missed a thing. Sensational attention to detail.
More than I had expected on all regards.
Wish we stayed longer 🦆🦆🦆 Nope, nothing.
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional - The cottage was just beautiful, couldn't ask for a better location. Well looked after, and had everything that you could ask for. Even had food for the ducks to feed them, although they come to you to get fed. Beautifully updated kitchen and bathroom, the cottage is a must stay. Cannot fault anything about the cottage
- Helen (8/5): Unique retreat in a remote and wild place - view, ducks, cosiness, cleanliness table too small!
- Lindy (9/5): Quirky but excellent accommodation which leads to a relaxing fun time - Great location on the water , very well appointed
Thoughtful and generous kitchen and bathroom facilities. Very comfortable bed. The visiting flock of ducks are an amusing addition. Matching wine glasses would be a plus but I am being picky picky
- Alan (9/5): Fantastic getway location. - Fantastic little cottage in the best location! Beautifully restored miners cottage, all the mod coms, super comfy bed, very friendly and funny flock of ducks to greet and entertain you! Jay was very responsive and helpful. Very peaceful and highly recommended. Great tavern for excellent meals just a couple of minutes away. We loved our stay. Nothing
- Rhonda (10/5): Exceptional - The stay here was just great. Terrific location, clean and cosy and extremely generous gifts including wine, breakfast makings and even a face mask to complete the soak in the wonderful bath. Everything
- Krystal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - The location was lovely, the cottage was artistic and cute and the ducks were a pleasant surprise. nil
- Sandy (10/5): Exceptional - Outlook was awesome. All the extras, wine, coffee, biscuits lollies, and all the rest. Appreciated.
Lovely and warm.
- Kimberley (9/5): Superb -
- Morris (10/5): Relaxing and comfortable, best location in Strahan! - Beautiful location
- Wendy (9/5): Superb -
- Thomas (8/5): Very good -
- Jenni (10/5): perfect interlude on a busy trip, an extra night unfortunately was not an affordable option - the cottage was just as the pictures indicated and the amenities were very generous - so nice we didn't want to use them!
of course the ducks rated a big tick, were very friendly and a nice greeting each time the door was opened A mirror in the bedroom would be handy and bath robes - a heating option in the bathroom would be welcome on the cold days/nights. all the little touches of comfort though were there which made it very special. Could not operate the coffee machine no matter how hard we tried!
- Patricia (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the location and the quirkiness of the cottage and surrounds. The supplies provided for a variety of activities were a lovely touch and we played the little wooden 3D Os&Xs game which was fun. Given the time we were there, the electric blanket was a welcome addition. Totally not the fault of the hosts, and don't mind the ducks at all, but it's a shame they leave their calling card on the porch, especially in cooler months - makes it a slippery walkway.
- Tiffany (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): A fantastic peaceful getaway. - Peaceful and idyllic location in a traditional shack that has been renovated and beautifully presented. Nothing. Maybe need more ducks?😂
- Kathy (9/5): We loved staying here especially the view. But everything else was good too - location, clean, decor, amenities, view, welcoming wet bath mats (from shower) that don’t dry in cold wet weather. glad we were given 2 though.
- Ann (6/5): Pleasant - The view and the quiet. Comfortable bed. Happy to have complimentary food. Thank you. No lock on bedroom window. Water pressure in shower too strong for size of shower stall. Unattractive back of building.
- Simone (10/5): Exceptional - Beautifull quiet and stress free.
- Grant (10/5): Perfect and Peaceful - Absolutely perfect place for a peaceful and relaxing stay. Very tranquil spot where you can enjoy water views from the chairs on the verandah. The facilities were perfect and very comfortable, everything you need is there. Only being able to spend one night here, would have loved a week here.
- Shane (10/5): Amazing stay - Fantastic place to stay. Beautiful location with everything you need.
- John (10/5): Possibly the highlight of our whole Tasmania holiday - What a surprise! Thoughtfully and creatively appointed. beautiful location. The ducks were a pleasant addition to the ambience. The bathtub was a welcome addition after the drive from Hobart. The well-stocked kitchen was a welcome addition to the experience. I suppose the downside of so many ducks was the duck poo we needed to clean off our shoes every time we came indoors. The town of Strahan needed a bity of research to locate good eating options. they exist but are not necessarily the most obvious options.
- Linda (9/5): Superb - Lovely little cottage. Perfect for our two night stay. Quiet location with waterfront views. Hosts provided some pantry staples which was great. Would definitely recommend.
- Lauren (10/5): Exceptional - The location was stunning, hosts were so kind, bed and bathroom were amazing. The best part was probably the wild ducklings who came to greet us each morning from the water! So cute :)
- Karen (10/5): we would have no hesitation in recommending this property to our friends/family. - It’s a beautiful cottage. exceptionally clean. Decor was beautiful. Bed comfortable. Bathroom spacious. an extremely pleasant place to stay. we loved the ducks greeting us in the morning. we cannot fault this property.
