Guest Reviews
- Bruce (9/5): -
- Melanie (9/5): -
- Guest (6/5): One step above a hotel room. Could not do any cooking. Were told this was a island rule. - Go back to the true bed and breakfast model.
- Rose (1/5): NOT a 4 star rating. - Outdoors, deck was ok. #1 - washroom smells like urine, that, you smell when you’re in bed trying to sleep
#2 - table outside not clean.
#3 - the bedroom is not a bedroom/room it is a kitchen with queen size bed.
- Michael (8/5): Excellent service and response by manager. -
- Heather (10/5): If you like Hawaii...this will be your second favorite place on the planet with the palm trees - I loved the private setting with Palm trees and sunshine. The cabins were well stocked with everything for relaxation. The palm tree nursery tour was a highlight. The hosts were helpful and super friendly. The palm trees and westcoast styled tikis everywhere were so fun.
- Lerbscher (10/5): - The breakfast that I ordered was great and reasonably priced. The Wi-Fi is terrible. And the shower is a little low flow.
- Thomson (10/5): Tropical paradise - What a beautiful location. Unique tropical plants all around the property made us feel like we were in Hawaii not BC! The unit is small but had everything we needed and we loved the eclectic decor. The granola and yogurt and muffin breakfast was delicious. The location is far from most amenities but for us it was near family we were visiting so absolutely perfect. Would stay again for sure.
- Ilona kwiatkowska (10/5): - Very pleasant and unique experience.
- Brian (2/5): Never recommending this or returning to this place. - It was a private location. The shower was good. That's about it. Very uncomfortable bed...listed as 1. Bedroom suite with separate bathroom
when clearly it was 2 sheds.
One that it is a loft sort of above a kitchen. The other shed was the bathroom!
That ladder to the loft is NOT ideal !!..wifi was very poor for contacting our family.
It's quirky..funky..could be fun..
but not comfy.....I would think an air b&b would make a comfy bed.
Number one priority..this is a lumpy mattress on the floor
- Victor (8/5): Very good - The gardens are lovely, as are the hosts. We stayed in the two small cottages that comprise Arbutus Blossom and having our coffee and a light breakfast just outside each morning was a real treat.
There is a small fridge, a temperature controlled kettle and a small Breville smart oven. There is a drip coffee maker as well, and a French Press (a very nice addition).
The bathroom area is spacious. That’s where we stored our bags during our stay and there was still plenty of room for ablutions. Having to climb the very steep ladder to the sleeping area was manageable, but not optimal. Anyone with even minor mobility issues or a fear of heights would find this arrangement challenging.
The sleeping area has a very low ceiling so standing is not an option for adults. This makes getting in and out of bed awkward.
As for the bed, while it’s a Queen there is not a single mattress. Rather, there are two memory foam mattresses side-by-side. Over time the mattresses “memory” have resulted in a valley in the centre, which forces people together during the night. The mattresses are also on the softer side so by the third night our backs were a bit sore (we get that this is a personal preference but it’s worthy of mention).

- Marilyn (8/5): A lovely place to stay on Salt Spring. - It was beautiful, quiet, secluded but still very accessible to everywhere. Cute set up. The wifi barely worked and little to no cell coverage. Would be good if they could put a booster in to improve wifi.
- Anonymous (6/5): Overall is ok - Nice and quiet They have to improve their WIFI, the area signal was very low, could not even make a phone call, and the WiFi almost couldn’t connect.
- Kaori (10/5): Precious time in a forest 💖 - It was an excellent stay and experience at Mongolia Petal! The access is easy if you have a car. The location and facility was great, as I had my terrace facing to their gorgeous garden! Feels like I was in a peaceful forest. In the neighborhood, there is an access to the beach and a farm where you can see sheep and horses. I met an owner, Banana Jo, who was very welcome and very very very helpful when I got an issue...!!! Thank you again, Jo! I'll definitely come back again 🙂
- Donna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicolas (8/5): Perfect for a weekend stay ! - Nice place for a weekend stay.
Quiet, cosy, in the middle of the woods, close to nice trails.
Parking spot just in front of the door.
Definitely recommand !
- John (9/5): I will - I did not use the breakfast feature, and the location was excellent because I was visiting people close by. The shower pressure was a bit lower than usual.
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ross (9/5): Superb -
- Toni (9/5): Very cozy, clean and charming with beautiful gardens - N/a
- Kirsten (10/5): Was a beautiful place to spend a milestone in my life. Thank you ❤️ - Was a beautiful garden setting and private
- Alex (9/5): Romantic, cozy, and really felt like a vacation. - The location was beautiful, the robes provided were a fantastic touch. The bed was very comfortable. It felt very private, and the hosts were awesome. The coffee and muffins provided were very appreciated :)
- Jennifer (10/5): Unique, special, and totally worth it! Highly recommend! - The most comfortable bed in the world and tons of art and character everywhere! And what amazing tropical gardens! We loved getting a private tour of the property with the artist studio (full of treasures you can take home) and endless beautiful nooks and crannies between the incredible foliage and handmade tikis everywhere. Wendy and Joe (and cute puppy) were absolutely lovely hosts. What a treat! I really can't think of anything - we had just come in from several days of kayaking so my hands were rough, maybe it would have been nice to have some hand lotion in the lovely bathroom since I forgot to bring any? Reall splitting hairs here because we loved the place!
- Diane (9/5): Excellent stay! - Beautiful grounds and lovely places to stay
- Jennifer (10/5): A beautiful oasis to escape to at any time of year! - The location is a perfect retreat! Out of the way yet close enough (by vehicle) to several restaurants if one wanted to go out for a meal. Also close to hiking, sights, various ocean accesses and town. The room was an artistically decorated studio apartment and included a private deck surrounded by lush forest and palm trees. The breakfast (additional charge and worth it) was delicious; yogurt, fresh berries, juice, muffin, homemade granola, coffee/tea, honey. The hosts Wendy and Joe were very genuine, welcoming and hospitable. Wendy is a talented artist and has an amazing little studio that she will show upon request. My two day experience was incredibly peaceful and it felt so comfortable to be there. I will definitely return! That I didn't stay longer.
- Alton (8/5): Very good -
- Kristina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lawrence (3/5): This experience was unnecessarily stressful. - The second room offered was comfortable and clean The first room offered was inappropriate as it was exceedingly small with a loft bed. The bathroom was not attached. We did not feel this room was accurately represented for our five night stay. The more comfortable room was only available for three nights which should have been disclosed ahead of time; as a result we had to leave and find accomodations on short notice and then return. The host offered to refund one night, but did not do so.
- Kirk (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eileen (10/5): Exceptional stay in a peaceful, romantic place close to nature with wonderful hosts. - We loved just about everything about this place, from the warm welcome (and cookies!) from our hosts, to the charming interior of each little 'house' with (depending on where you stayed) various sun terraces, double hammocks, spacious showers and deep soft beds. Our hosts were so helpful, and gave us some local top tips that made our stay even better. We loved experiencing this end of the island with its glorious beaches and incredibly peaceful atmosphere and fabulous food. Occasionally sketchy wifi, but quite frankly, this is a place to get away from it all anyway so can count as a plus!
- Walter (10/5): exactly what we wanted. relaxing fun accomadations. - everything no complaints
- Machiko (8/5): Cozy cottage - The owner provided many items in great detail. No cellphone reception, no tv, no radio or clock.
- Nathan (9/5): Was just what we needed, a place to relax and unwind - Vivacious. Joe is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to his Palms. Beautiful foliage and so inviting.
- Becky (9/5): This one is unique and beautiful. A rest in nature. - This one is for a quiet restful and beautiful retreat. I wouldn’t count on Wi-Fi working much. We thought breakfast was included. It’s not. But…. a very reasonably priced breakfast can be purchased and brought to your room the night before 🙂
- Erwin (10/5): Magnolia Pearl. - Perfect location if you want a quiet getaway from the city. Wifi is a bit slow if you are on a working holiday.
- Miguel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Samantha (10/5): Nice cute little place to stay! - Super cute little cabin. Nice area and very nice hosts! Nothing!
- Trevor (9/5): I was looking for a place to relax and unwind and enjoy the surroundings and I found it. - Peaceful, roomy, tastefully decorated and well managed. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating. Nothing that deserves comment.
- Brandi (8/5): Very good - The property was beautiful. Full of gorgeous landscaping. Very quiet. You do need to drive to get there - the road is not suitable for walking, especially after dark. Our host was very friendly and helpful. Friendly dog and nervous cat on property, but you mightn't see either one. We couldn't figure out the exhaust fan in the w/c. It would turn off when we wanted it on, and turn on by itself when we wanted it off. Probably easily remedied if we just asked for help! There was no obvious place to put the toaster in range of an outlet, so we put it on top of the microwave.
- Tomlinson (6/5): Pleasant - Set up in loft and living area comfortable, quaint. Loved spacious garden with outdoor furnishing. That as b.b had to pay extra for breakfast.also lots of cobwebs. Would have liked to have artist's studio open for viewing.
- Raman (4/5): Disappointing -
- Debra (8/5): This was a lovely private space with a fun, tropical vibe. It was perfect for a solo traveler. - Cute space, tropical vibe, quiet, and private. Extra touches of bathrobe and treats were appreciated. Would appreciate a place to lay luggage…no practical spot for a suitcase.
- Bruce (2/5): Very poor - Location The facilities are not as advertzed and the owner lied to us
- Metushka (8/5): Very good -
- Terry (10/5): A beautiful setting for a quiet stay! - Loved the experience of living in a tiny house!
- Ann (7/5): Good - Quiet and relaxing surroundings.
- Donna (10/5): Exceptional -
- William (10/5): Excellent place to relax on Salt Springs Island - Very friendly owners. Very secluded. Quiet and relaxing. Close to amenities (with car). Very comfortable. Interesting gardens. Nothing to say
- Blakep (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (9/5): Magical little spot to escape the hussle and bustle. - It was a beautiful spot nestled amongst gorgeous trees. Everything we needed was there. Beautiful decor and amenities. Delicious breakfast basket and some of the best cookies ever! The hosts were very friendly and welcoming. The bed was a little uncomfortable.
- Patricia (10/5): Absolutely lovely - Location is spectacular - like a tropical paradise with the most gorgeous garden. Our hosts were very kind, extremely imaginative and artistic and a genuine pleasure to meet. N/A - we enjoyed the whole experience of staying there at Magnolia Petal - highly recommend it.
- Stef (7/5): I was surprised that the King suite had less space than the Queen - The hosts were very nice , they have a lovely little dog . We stayed in the queen suite and it was good , I was unfamiliar with the area , so we were a bit far out from our event . The gardens were unbelievable, but I prefer a bit more sun .The parking was okay Not that I didnt like anything , just not what I envisioned . The parking could have been a bit better , but it was acceptable. Also "I " didn't realise the suite was attached to the host building ... that was my misunderstanding. Very Jungle-y and secluded The hosts have done a TON of work on their property
- Dennis (2/5): 'rustic' and not worth $200/night - The 'breakfast' they offered was a basket of buns and fruit but only if you pay an extra $12 each. Showers were limited to 5 minutes and flushing was restricted. The fridge didn't work nor did the TV, VCR or CD player as advertised.
- Ron (9/5): Superb -
- Anonymous (10/5): For myself it was perfect. - comfort and beautiful atmosphere, lovely gardens, creativity and love everywhere. what’s not to like.
- Anonymous (8/5): a lovely peaceful stay 💓 -
- Joanne (9/5): Superb -
- Sandra (9/5): Great stay and we loved Salt Spring Island - Wendy & Joe were extremely welcoming so we felt right at home immediately. The room is set in beautiful surroundings of an exotic plant nursery operated by Joe. Lovely, homely touches by Wendy in the room and en-suite. Wendy's art is also fabulous so don't leave without asking for a visit to her gallery!
- Brianna (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful spot on Salt Spring Island. Host was so kind and we really enjoyed learning about all of the palm trees on the property and in the town. Loved our stay!
- Branston-davis (9/5): Superb - The setting and tranquillity of the surroundings, also fully equipped with everything you could possibly need and more My only thought was maybe more lighting when you go through the gate at night , difficult to find the door in the dark , although Joe did come out to put a light on , the night we were earlier, apart from that it was excellent
- Tracy (10/5): Exceptional - Nice quite area.
- Susan (10/5): It was wonderful and I fully enjoyed my stay. - Breakfast was similar to what I enjoy almost every day and I never tire of it. Accommodation was unique and charming and the garden was magnificent. I would not hesitate to stay there again.
- Evan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natalie (9/5): Absolutely loved it!! Great base for exploring the island. - Very tranquil setting, beautiful scenery, lovely studio and enjoyed sitting out on the patio in the mornings and evenings with a book. Everything was great. Only suggestion I have is in the description it says breakfast is included when there is a separate charge for it.
- Shaylyn (10/5): Exceptional - Loved everything about this place! The breakfast baskets were delicious, the rooms were clean and tidy, and the feeling of being tucked away in the forest was perfect for a week away from the city.
- Barry (10/5): So quiet, peaceful, comfortable, and such beautiful plants and trees. - Magical place to stay. So quiet, peaceful, comfortable, and such beautiful plants and trees. Had a truly wonderful time. The hosts are so nice, friendly, and took such good care of us. Wendy's art is beautiful. Wish we could have stayed longer!
