Guest Reviews
- Cousins (7/5): -
- Leslie (8/5): -
- Kane (8/5): Very welcoming place to stay. - Al and Nicole are very welcoming. Hard to find. Needs better signage
- Tiferet (8/5): Very good - The lodge itself is extraordinary. This is my 4th visit. The breakfasts weren't good at all. For the price of a stay, one expects better meals.
- Johannes (9/5): Superb - I had a great stay here and the hosts Ian and Natasha made me feel at home from the very start. You cannot wish for a friendlier couple, they go above and beyond providing their guests with a personal experience (thanks for the mountain bike ride, Ian!).
- Ирина (8/5): Thanks! - The pancakes were amazing!
- Leann (7/5): Good -
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - We love Alert bay in September, and Alert bay lodge was wonderful !
Beautiful huge room, with an equally huge covered deck looking towards the water.
Lovely breakfasts cooked by Ian and a roaring fire to sit beside, perfect! Perfect, perfect, perfect!
- John (9/5): It is a beautiful hotel. Rooms were comfortable. We loved the wood burning stove. - Breakfast was good. Ian our host is a great guy, friendly and made us feel at home. I think that you should have a drip coffee maker in all the rooms. (A must have) A tv in all the rooms would be nice.
- Christina (8/5): A comfortable place to stay in a charming seaside community with a significant Indigenous history. - The Alert Bay Lodge was charming, comfortable and hospitable. Very unique setting, with a warm welcome from the hosts. Good location, easy walk into "town". The community is great, lots to see and do. Fascinating history. Marvelous must-see: the U'mista Cultural Centre. Whales, dolphins and otters passing by the front of the Lodge every day! I liked everything.
- Pauline (9/5): lovely stay in a very unique property - We loved our stay at the Alert Bay Lodge. It is very quaint and we loved that it was so different from the usual generic accommodation. Natasha and Ian, the hosts, are so welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was great and we had dinner one night which was also really good. We just felt so ‘at home’ and were sorry leave. Nothing
- Norman (8/5): Very good - The main lodge room and the breakfast. The bedroom was quite small and had a musty odour.
- Leslie (8/5): Very good -
- Dawnda (6/5): For a B & B they were over priced ~ was expecting more for that price. Prices were equivalent to a city, and this is - Location Sent a message to say we’ll be late. Got there & a whiteboard sign to say what room we in. No staff on site. They really like signs, after a long trip & coming in late we didn’t see them, missed out on ‘signing up for breakfast’ that was over at 8:30am, ought to be over at 10 which is more reasonable.
- Bergvinson (9/5): Superb - Excellent nutritional breakfast!
Amazing view!
Friendly and helpful staff.
Cozy, interesting decor.
Being so close to the shoreline and immersed in nature was special.
I loved the main gathering room with all the different places to sit, read or play games.
Hearing the eagles every day was a bonus.
The whole place gave me a sense of relaxation which I haven’t felt for a long time. Bed was soft and creaky.
No hair dryer in room.
- Soeren (9/5): very nice - Varied and delicious breakfast.
- Sarah (7/5): Did not live up to expectations unfortunately. The views were stunning but the room was disappointing. - Great location with beautiful views across the water. Close to local restaurants. Very comfortable bed Felt very dated. Room dark and looked straight out onto caravan, bathroom in need of redo. Walls very thin so kept up until 1 am by guests in adjacent room. Breakfast was ok.
- Janette (7/5): Adequate - Great room.
By the ocean and lots of good walks It looked dumpy outside
Walls paper thin!
Too much furniture in the room
Too dark when we came in and un-in-inviting.
Had to take off our shoes immediately but people and dogs who were in and out with bare feet paws were allowed to run back and forth.
- Jeffrey (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (7/5): Good -
- Boer (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location, the beds were super comfortable and everything was very clean. Our host Nina was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the history and local culture of the island.
- Natania (10/5): Highly recommend Alert Bay Lodge - Amazing location - We loved Alert Bay Lodge. It's rather quirky and clearly a labour of love for the owners Nina and Scott. There is an amazing communal space where you will find some really interesting objects and First Nations art. As well as comfy sofas and a lovely fire, tea and coffee is available. It is a wonderful open area to spend the evenings. From here you can access a veranda with incredible views over the water.
The location is amazing, we saw orca in the water right outside the lodge!
Nina and Scott are very friendly and engaging hosts. There was some healthy competition going on between them with their breakfasts.
We had an early excursion on our first morning so Scott made us breakfast rolls to go, which were great. On our second morning we had pancakes made by Scott which were very nice but on our third morning we had pancakes made by Nina which were sublime (sorry Scott)
We loved our stay here and would definitely return. Nothing could have been better. Would definitely stay again
- Clemens (10/5): Great Bed and Breakfast -
- Shannon (9/5): A really nice spot to explore this small island. The host is very knowledgeable about the area and culture. - Lovely room, great breakfast, views, friendly and informative host, quiet, private.
- Brian (7/5): It was good but not as good as other B&Bs we have stayed in - The breakfast was excellent
- Marry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Craig (9/5): Superb -
- Madhubanti (7/5): Good -
- Donja (10/5): Exceptional - only one word: AMAZING.
My family and I enjoyed the accommodation so much! Apart from the fact that the building itself (partly an old church, partly an old school) is incredibly beautiful and has been furnished and restored with great attention to detail, the hosts were super friendly and accommodating! We learned a lot about Alert Bay and even though the island is very small, you can still experience so much here. The islanders are also very friendly and always up for a good chat.
Overall a great stay, we would have liked to stay a little longer to explore the neighboring islands from there.
And of course it should be mentioned that we could even see whales from the beach!
- Maria (10/5): Stunning, calm, we’ll be back! - Scott is an excellent host. The big room is amazing and we enjoyed all the facilities. The views from the deck are amazing! Beds are very comfy.
- Jeffrey (10/5): Great place to stay in Alert Bay - We chose room 4, it was large and comfortable with an outside deck where we could sit and watch the water in the evening.
We frequently walked the 10 minutes to town.
We enjoyed the choices for breakfast.
- Kathy (8/5): Very good - The location was very good. Quiet convenient and easy to find. The ambiance of the place was exceptional. The host took the time to show us around the island. The culture and art in Alert was amazing to see. The place had a musty smell to it. Bathtub ran slowly.
- Mark (9/5): an excellent place, highly recommended - Situated in small village on shore. Delightful warm hosts and excellent personal care and food. Great views and good company Musty carpet in bedroom
- Eileen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bb (10/5): Magical stay with whales bears and delicious foods - The property is conveniently located just a quick 15 minute walk from the ferry, food store and pharmacy and the U’mista cultural center. The building is charming and has the feel of a lodge and breathtaking views of the water. It is quiet and the beds were comfortable and the shower had some of the best water pressure ever.
We met very interesting people during our stay and will even keep in touch! This is not a touristy area and is for the cool travelers 😎 that like to experience some unique places. We went on a tour and saw grizzly bears and while on the ferry saw orca whales. This island is magical and so is the lodge. The restaurant on premises is managed by two of the most interesting people we’ve ever met. The food is gourmet quality and I bet you $50 you won’t get a better meal within 100 miles.
This place made us feel so relaxed and calm and we learned about First Nations which was an honor to be able to have a small look into their fascination traditions.
- Michael (9/5): Superb - Friendly and helpful managers Pablo and Paula, the lounge and common room! The tasteful and excellant dinner they offer!
- Leslee (8/5): It was a lovely stay and I would recommend it to anyone. - Breakfast was just fine, and our requirements were accommodated. It would be nice to have a fan in the room, everything else was very good.
- Alysha (10/5): Stay here! - Loved the unique venue, big room, ocean views, incredible brekky, and wonderful common room. Nothing, perfect for our family.
- Andrea (10/5): A lovely comfy place to stay. - Super nice hosts and excellent food. .
The room was lovely and rustic and the beds were luxuriously comfy. Nothing I can think of. It was very comfy.
- Calvin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bernard (7/5): remodeled church makes for an interesting stay in Alert Bay - comfortable, easy access to beaches, short walk (15 min) to town, very good breakfasts, pleasant and friendly staff feels a bit dated, no dinners available
- Lynn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sheila (10/5): Fabulous food and the welcoming cheery attitudes of Paula and Pablo created a fun and relaxing time. - We love the woodsy feel and cedar aroma that panabode construction provides. On the beach and easy to walk everywhere
- Janice (7/5): Good - Location great. Nice breakfast included.
- Zofia (10/5): it is amazing place with amazing management - location, view, design nothing
