Guest Reviews
- Coreen (8/5): Great stay! - Great breakfast/ snacks anything you could possibly want. Host/owner was friendly and knowledgeable. Accommodations was clean and comfortable. Price reflects older building and decor, but cosy and comfortable. Outdoor landscape , larger sign would attract more customers.
- Monique (8/5): Very good -
- Christiane (3/5): Poor - Good wifi Not the cleanest , old , rundown , smelt bad . No tvs in room . No one to greet us . I hate to complain
- Aimee (3/5): Poor - Friendly staff. Large array of food. The view out back was nice. Very quiet and thin walls. Felt like we had to whisper. Felt barren and dismal.
- Rainer (6/5): Pleasant -
- Tracy (8/5): Great location to check out St. Anthony's, L'Anse aux Meadows, etc. - Large property, common living room with fireplace, open kitchen, laundry available. Bed was comfortable. Internet worked fine, and hot water for shower. Breakfast was hearty. Beautiful vistas, too. A bit remote, so bring your own lunch or dinner, although soup was available when I arrived. No TVs in rooms, but available in common room.
- Nathalie (2/5): Very poor - very sketchy place. The owner was insisted on being paid cash so we had to drive an extra 45 minutes to the closest ATM machine. Very old, not renovated place. Weird vibe all around the place, doesn't seem legit. Don't stay there.
- Long (10/5): It’s really really unforgettable experience! - The owner of the lodge Lyn is fantastic: very kind and generous, who showed me around and sent me to the sites and airport, which moves me a lot! I love him and likely to revisit him and his lodge one day! Thank Lyn! No
- Sally (1/5): Do not stay here. Be careful! - Nothing. Read dislikes and please be careful. Especially women. I strongly urge anyone considering this place to exercise caution. The individual at the check-in desk was exceedingly inappropriate, and I believe he may be the owner, as he has a questionable reputation in the area, which we later discovered.
Upon our arrival, he didn’t even greet us. Instead, he made an unsettling comment about "two girls" accompanied by a creepy smile, and then asked if we were okay with a double bed, despite the fact that this was not what we had booked. He dismissed our concerns, stating it didn’t matter because it was all they had available.
The entire experience was deeply disturbing, prompting us to leave and find accommodation elsewhere. Additionally, the lighting in the establishment added to the overall unsettling atmosphere. It was like a horror film setting.
- Doug (9/5): Superb -
- Elaine (8/5): Enjoyable - Lots of space No TV in the room
- Kelly (6/5): Pleasant - This was an interesting stay. I think that the photos of the property are very misleading. I thought that this country lodge was right on the ocean and therefore didn't mind that it looked a bit rugged. It is, in fact, right on the highway and there is no way to walk down to the water or really even see the water from the lodge. Upon arrival, I was quite surprised as the outdoor setting didn't even resemble the photos. These photos may be of the area but they are not of the property surrounding the lodge.
That was the down side.
The up side was that the host is quite lovely and very attentive. His breakfast was huge and he made quite sure that you had everything you wanted to eat. The rooms were old but quaint, comfortable and clean. The large gathering room had a wood stove, lots of seating for dining, and comfortable sofas and armchairs. This made for great conversation among guests.
After I got over my initial stress, I quite enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Still not quite sure how I feel about the photos vs reality but it turned into a lovely couple of days. Photos do not accurately portray the setting of the lodge.
- Pam (9/5): Superb - The Lodge is right off the highway and easy to access. Even though it was on the highway, it was quiet. The breakfast was excellent. Unfortunately, it's not very sound proof, so we could hear things from the adjoining room very clearly. Maybe it was just our room, but still..
- Donna (9/5): Comfortable stay near St. Anthony. - My room was comfortable. It was nice that breakfast and snacks were available too!
- Anonymous (10/5): Comfortable and convenient - Location
- Iftekhar (7/5): Good -
- Lei (7/5): Good -
- Diane (7/5): Good - Ok breakfast Upon arrival the owner wants cash. Had to find cash between 2 couples. He says it's always cash.
No where on the reservation does it say this. After driving all day. Not happy at that point.
- Christine (7/5): Good - The room was clean, staff was friendly. Full kitchen for use.
- Johanna (10/5): The most generous host we've encountered! - Lyn is THE BEST HOST of any of the dozen or so Bed and Breakfasts we stayed at during our Newfoundland vacation. He is sociable, friendly and MOST GENEROUS. Breakfasts are copious, with an abundant variety of choices for cereals, breads, jams, fresh fruit, juices, teas and coffee. Lyn also made a hot breakfast every morning, and provided snacks in the evenings with an invitation to use his fridge. He has a comfortable main lounge to hang out in, play cards etc. Do not let the plain exterior of the building dissuade you; Lyn goes out of his way to make you feel at home.
Be ready to pay cash.
- Rickhey (8/5): Overall good. Towels a bit threadbare - Breakfast was good. Lots of choices Was a bit too rustic. In the middle of nowhere
- Nancy (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location and very comfortable beds. Breakfast was delicious. Lots of choices
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb - Lyn is very kind and prepares the excellent breakfast.
- Anonymous (10/5): Nice B&B out in the country. - Very good. Owner cooked eggs and bacon, and provided blueberry muffins, juices, fruit, cereal, coffee, and lots of bread and bagels.
- Olive (5/5): This venue us a work in progress - Large common space looked comfortable with a wood fireplace. Very peaceful and quiet. We were able help our selves to tea, cofffee and cookies etc whenever we were there not just breakfast fine. Cooked breakfast was good. Owner was friendly Place is isolated, in the middle of nowhere. It’s about a 20 minute drive to St Anthony. No tv or hairdryer in the room.
- Claudia (4/5): Disappointing -
- Terri (9/5): Rustic lodge - Easy access to local activities. Very comfortable, open lounge and kitchen area to visit with other guests. The host was very accommodating . Great full breakfast to get the day start
- Jim (8/5): Very good - After reading some of the reviews, I have to state....look this isn't the Ritz, but it's clean, comfortable, and the owner is one of the most accommodating and kind people you'll meet. He's ready with coffee or tea at any time, there is always food to eat, not just breakfast, and the fire is always burning in the main room. And really, you didn't drive all the way up here for a spa.
- Christine (7/5): Good -
- Tracy (7/5): Good value for the area. - Lyndon was an excellent host and the breakfasts were marvelous. Room was very clean. Hot water was a bit erratic.
- Margaret (7/5): We enjoyed our stay. - Breakfast was good, the lounge was welcoming.
- Linda (8/5): I enjoyed my stay and would go there again. - The Lodge was rustic, clean, and pleasant. The staff could not have been nicer. They were attentive and interested in making sure you had what you wanted. The kitchen was available to the guests all the time. You could get your needs met. It was casual, warm, and cozy. No matter where you went in Newfoundland you had to travel a good distance to get anywhere. The Lodge was located in St. Anthony but to get to town took 20-30 minutes. To get to a restaurant took longer but that was typical of Newfoundland. It is very spread out. I would have liked a TV in my room but there was one in the central living room/dining area that was hooked up to Youtube and other channels like that.
- Gerard (8/5): Very good -
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexandra (8/5): Good comfortable stay. - Quiet, clean. Great breakfast. Attentive host. A little too far from St. Anthony’s.
- Graham (10/5): We were sad to leave. Thanks Lyn - Lyn couldn’t do anymore for you, an excellent host.
Breakfast consisted of fresh fruit, cereal's, yoghurt, plenty of tea or coffee, plus hot breakfast cooked by him. You had access to tea coffee all day plus we could enjoy a lovely wood fire in the lounge dining.
Lonely Planet recommended. We didn't see a mouse or caribou but the vista from the lounge dining room so relaxing, mountains, a lake and native scenery.
- John (7/5): We enjoyed the interaction with people from interesting places. -
- Pauline (1/5): not up to any standards. - self serve very uncomfortable beds
cod plate urged on arrival - not good!
- Bertrand (10/5): Really enjoyable - Owner was quite nice and interesting to talk with
Breakfast was great had everything bacon eggs and even bologna fried
Evening was nice by wood stove and other travellers told stories of where they had gone Little closer to town
- Colin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sui (10/5): Very nice - Location is good, a lot of common area you can relax and chat with other travellers.
Host is very friendly, good breakfast.
- Wilma (8/5): Enjoyable - Very laid back. At breakfast and in the evening travellers would sit around the table and chat. Great exchange of information. Like travellers.
- Alain (5/5): Passable - Excellent breakfast Bare bones accomodation. Musty smell thru out
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional - Like a home away from home. Nice social meeting room, plenty of snacks breakfast when you want it and the way you wanted it cooked.
- Thacker (9/5): It was a good location to explore the surrounding areas and a great host! - Breakfast was great. The host was very accommodating and friendly. Bonus for us was a wood fireplace in the dining room accessible at all times for the guests.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (7/5): We felt it was a crossover between B&B and hostel, Lyn was very hospitable and we enjoyed our stay! - The owner greeted us with tea and cookies upon arrival. The property is a short drive to L’anse aux Meadows and one hour from the Labrador ferry so it was great for us. Rooms were cold initially, and you need to take cash for payment. No issue for us but want others to be aware.
- Yetao (10/5): Exceptional - The first moment when I got there, I found it's 20 kilometers away from St. Anthony, where I supposed to stay at that night. But after a 2nd thought, I actually not necessarily to stay in town, I have everything I need, and Lindon provided me many food. Althought I did not pay for the room yet, cos he just accept cash. If I went away, I did not lose anything. I think I simply made a right choice to stay there. Breakfast was great. the environment was so beautiful. If I had chance to go there again, I'll definitely choose to stay here again.
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly host; delicious and abundant breakfast; great location. Very homey.
- James (8/5): Very good - Truly awesome breakfast. The host is a quiet man who delights in helping his guests. Guests have the run of the kitchen and the large sitting/dining room, which has a great view. The building is unimposing from the outside and appears a bit run-down. Inside, the rooms are spare but adequate and very clean, with comfortable beds.
- Betty (10/5): Excellent place, would highly recommend!! - Really clean, Lyn was great, whole place was very comfortable!!
- Adrian (9/5): Superb - Breakfast, awesome owner Nothing
- Sheila (8/5): Very good - Lots of variety for breakfast. Help yourself
- Melissa (9/5): Clean, quiet and a good location - It is what you pay for. The property is SPOTLESS, the lounge, the rooms, everything was clean and neat. We did not stay for breakfast as we had a ferry to catch but it did smell delicious! I'm going to assume this used to be a hunting lodge, it is an older building with older furniture. Unfortunately it reeked of stale smoke. I wasn't able to sleep because I couldn't breathe well so it did affect me. New mattresses might a good thing in the future.
- Barb (8/5): Very good - Great view from front and back - particularly the back
Charming living room area - great sitting and chatting with fellow travellers
Good breakfast!!! Not as close to St Anthony as we thought, however easy access to L’anse aux Meadows and the trip back down the peninsula
- Kavitha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brenda (8/5): Very good - We were very surprised by how much we enjoyed our stay. Lyn was welcoming and provided an amazing and delicious breakfast. A beautiful and remote, rustic setting.
We also learned from Lyn about past Newfoundland history.
- O'brien (8/5): Very good -
- Tineke (10/5): Very nice place to stay! - The host was very friendly and helpful. The kitchen was so well stocked with food and the host made breakfast for those who wanted it. Nothing. (I was hoping to see some wildlife there but that was no fault of the host.)
- Ursula (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ray (8/5): Very good - Excellent made to order breakfast.
- Christine (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pat (5/5): Passable - Great breakfast.
- Kerry (7/5): This old place has seen better days but still has heart and a hearty breakfast! - The common room of the lodge felt authentic with a great view. The host provided us with an exceptional breakfast with everything you could want. He prepared the eggs and bacon/sausage himself and was very generous. Great way to start your day. Good location for driving to either L’Anse aux Meadows or St. Anthony. The room was very sparse, and no TV. There was little water pressure from the sink. A screen on the window would have been nice in order to leave the window open at night.
- Carol (9/5): Would happily stay again - Lyn, the proprietor, is a quiet guy who continually asked how our stay was going. He loves Newfoundland! He recommended a restaurant for dinner, which we enjoyed. He has an amazing spread at breakfast. Eggs to order, bacon, sausage, and an array of breads, homemade muffins, jams, yogurt, fresh fruit ….
There is a lodge/ camp feel - communal sitting/dining area with comfy chairs. There was hot chocolate, teas, and cookies available at any time. Not too bright in terms of being able to read. Tv reception seemed to have limited channels, and it froze a lot.
- Julia (9/5): Little gem if you prefer a genuine stay in a warm minimalist setting rather than a modern B&B overlooking a parking - A little blast from the past kind of stay - old school keys and no tv (good wifi though!). Immaculately clean rooms, though a little dated, this B&B lives in the tradition of a minimalist, functional yet warm setting with the owner generously sharing their love for the area and the B&B. Absolutely fabulous breakfast- very generous spread (homemade jams, muffins etc) and made to order eggs and sides :) this was a great treat and perfect start to the day making our way to Anse aux Meadows! In this setting - even the dated look didn’t bother us!
- Cristinette (10/5): Exceptional - Location is along the highway and close to other cove. The owner was friendly and nice.
- Frederic (10/5): Amazing place to stay. If I come back in the area, I know where I will stay :) - Homemade breakfast with a lot of choices, free wifi, nice and cozy room, and a very nice owner. In short, one of the best place I stayed. You will hardly find something better elsewhere, even if you pay more.
- Cliona (8/5): August stay in 2024 - The host was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We enjoyed the rustic style accommodation. Breakfast has many options including cold & hot foods. The building is old so it's flors. Doors, we are noisy. You can hear a lot between the rooms. You can only pay CASH when you come which was not communicated until we received a message 24 hrs before checking in. There is no ATM, so you have to drive 15 or so kms into St Anthony to get $.
- Allan (3/5): Would not recommend under the current operator. - The price and sweeping views of the fields. The owner/person running the business should not be running the business. When we showed up he was already in the bag (drunk) which does not provide you with any sense of security and brings into question the cleanliness and state of any and all things concerning the B&B. How frewsh the food is, cleanliness of dishes, etc...
It's unfortunate as it could be a wonderful B&B with the right people running it.
- Grant (10/5): Sizable mom & pop establishment provided excellent stay, even with mom being away at the time. - We found a thoughtful, generous, soft spoken host, excellent drinking water, large "Newfie" kitchen for self serve & socialising, with dining area overlooking ponds and North Range Mountains Website address should have noted the lodge was 21 km west of St. Anthony.
- Richard (7/5): Acceptable but could use some improvements - The host was very welcoming and accomodations very rustic in appearance. We had a very quiet sleep in a comfortable bed. The location is somewhat isolated but also very beautiful in its rustic way. Definitely needs some work on the rooms and building. Shower head was only strapped in place. Surprise cold spell caused building to be somewhat chilly, however room was very warm and cozy.
Breakfast offered but many jams and breakfast items were out of date in their containers. We could have received bacon & eggs but were looking for something lighter.
- Linda (7/5): We really enjoyed our stay and the delicious breakfast we enjoyed! - Wonderful breakfast with fresh fruit! Lyn was very gracious. Just a bit dingy and dated.
- Scott (6/5): Quiet location. The host was very pleasant. - Breakfast was excellent Rooms were very basic but clean.
- Deidre (9/5): Superb - The common facilities, kitchen and living areas allowed guests to mingle and share stories and experiences.
Lyn, the host was generous and helpful.
Breakfasts were amazing. It was a bit far out of St Anthony, but was actually closer to the turns for L'anse au Meadows etc.
- Caroline (8/5): Very good -
- Santolla (8/5): Very good - The location and the facility were great. Friendly considerate staff. There was no AC and room was very hot. All else was good.
- Jing (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pearle (10/5): Lynn’s mom even made us partridgeberry muffins - Host was excellent and breakfast excellent
Lynn provided everything we asked for and more Nothing - all was as advertised
- Lee (1/5): This was the worst possible situation for two seniors to be in. - There was nothing to like.
Photos are a sham….possibly applicable 20 Years ago but not what it is today. Booking.com should re-evaluate this location and not support or suggest it’s a decent place to stay. It is NOT
Pictures on site show grass and cement walkway - reality…weeds knee height and boulders to maneuver around.
Pictures indicate water view and are so bold as to show iceburgs - reality….large depression across road that filled in with rain water.
Pictures show clean room in good condition - Reality dirty room, we refused to sleep under covers…Bathtub surround broken…sharp edges. Window in our room looking out over the tall weeds and boulders was broken…top half held together with packing tape and scotch tape as it was on outside of double pane glass. Bottom large crack on inside and not secured with tape.
Wifi - well, because of buffering it was virtually no existent. With unreliable Wifi and no landline you have no way of contacting the outside world.
Owner indicated that one of the two rooms he had available had a leaky tub facet. Apparently this has gone on for 24 Years and he said he occasionally goes underneath to fix it.
***we booked for B&B l November 2023 for July 2024. St Anthony NL is a busy spot. We relied and trusted pictures that were on Booking.com site.
For breakfast the morning that we laid awake all night we toasted each two slices of toast. I had bologna with that and my cousin jam and peanut butter.
We had booked for two nights. For the short time we got wifi we were able to secure the last room at another location in St.Anthony. We packed our bags before breakfast and hurried out the side doo right after. The side door because it’s virtually impossible to gain entry in the front let alone carry luggage in and out.
I have requested my money back…all $260. Cash that I paid Lyn. I don’t know if I’ll see any of it .
**Folks, if you see the location and are temped to drive by, trust your instincts. Everything
- Christine (1/5): First and last time. - We were accused of not paying our bill. We did and have the receipt to prove it. A threat to involve the police was made. The receptionist did not seem to have our reservation on file either.

- Jill (6/5): Overall a fine place to stay. - Beautiful older building with lovely woodworks and antiques. A hearty breakfast with nothing missing was included in the price. The bedroom doors slammed shut if you didn’t hang on to them tightly.
- Judith (9/5): Superb -
- Meixin (6/5): Pleasant - That's good.
- Cifuentes (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wendy (8/5): Very good - Clean. Lovely breakfast. We had use of kitchen to make tea etc in the evening. Nice room to gather together and chat
- Victoria (10/5): Wonderful. - Location was perfect for seeing all areas of the northern peninsula. Lyn is a wonderful host. He wants you to use the entirety of the property. If you engage in conversation with him he is very open and friendly. He also cooks breakfast every morning at no additional cost.
