- Piotr (9/5): cosy hotel located in the heart of old Cairo, 2 minutes walk from Al-Mu'izz Street - perfect location if you want to explore the old Cairo, nice and helpful staff, comfortable bed, tasty breakfast, welcome diner, free cold beverages in the kitchen, terrace on the roof

- Peter (10/5): The perfect choice! - Gamaleya Hotel was honestly the perfect choice for our 4-day stay in Cairo. There’s a huge difference between visiting Islamic Cairo and the bazaar for 2–3 hours as part of a tour, and actually staying there for a few days, right in the middle of all the energy and chaos.
This place is definitely not for people looking for complete silence at night. 😄 The crowds, music, street life, and constant buzz go on until early morning — but that’s exactly what makes the whole experience unforgettable and so authentic. The neighborhood is chaotic in the best possible way, but we always felt completely safe.
The rooms are cozy, clean, and honestly great value for money. But what really made this hotel stand out was the staff. They genuinely try to help with everything.
For example:
we asked for a quieter room farther from the street noise → they arranged it within a few hours
on our first day we wanted to try authentic Egyptian food → they ordered an amazing tasting selection for us from a great nearby restaurant
breakfast was freshly prepared every morning
dinners were also based on local flavors and were delicious
and they handled our late check-out super easily: instead of 11:00 AM, we could stay until 8:30 PM
The photos really speak for themselves — the place looks just as good in real life. If you want to truly experience Cairo instead of just “seeing” it as a tourist, we’d absolutely recommend staying here. ----

- Elena (10/5): Most helpful staff and an excellent stay in this superb mansion - Wonderful atmosphere and great staff; excellent location
- Matti (9/5): Great location, warm and welcoming staff, in a bustling area of a busy part of the town. - Fantastic staff. Room was excellent, tidy. The area is bustling so of course some noise will get inside from the street. The hotel is a combination of arts and crafts revitalization center, which gave it a great vibe. Some of the hotel was still under construction at the same time when we visited, which made the overall look unfinished.
- Sue (9/5): The staff at this hotel are super lovely. Habiba was so lovely. The food is great and the hotel has a true Arabic vibe. - The location was perfect and our room was quiet Nothing comes to mind
- Winifred (9/5): A haven away from home - Breakfast was really good; the staff are amazing, always willing to help, Habiba, Mona, Maryam, the young lad, Amriham(AM), they were all fantastic, we say a huge thank you; and we met some lovely people over breakfast and dinner from Spain, Mexico, England, this felt like home. The bathroom, water all over the floor because it is partially covered...
- Mark (10/5): Thanks to the amazing staff, will definitely be back!!! - Amazing, friendly and attentive staff. Very cool hotel with a great vibe and nice outdoor spaces to relax.
- Nina (9/5): -
- Dominique (8/5): Very welcoming hotel in the heart of Cairo - We enjoyed the very warm welcome of the owner Ibrahim and all his staff. You are treated as family guests. Everyone is dedicated to make our stay enjoyable and comfortable. The food is excellent, prepared in front of you. We could have our meals in the kitchen/ dining room or at the roof top terrace.
The location of the hotel is the best for exploration of the old Islamic part of Cairo, few steps away from the very lively streets of the bazar. It is not something that can really be fixed. The hotel is situated in a very noisy area.
- Mona (9/5): Lovely - Nothing
- Javier (7/5): -
- Håvard (8/5): Cute and unique stay in the old city - Very cute and cosy stay in a good location. Beautifully decorated and with a great roof terrace. Both breakfast and dinner is delicious and is served in a family-like manner where guests eat together. Downstairs there are artists' workshops, with an exhibition and possibility to buy their works. We bought a beautiful woven carpet from the artist himself and the staff were very helpful in helping us with the logistics of getting it with us. The hotel is located inside the walls of the old city, so taxis do not drive to the door, so beware if you are carrying a lot of luggage (cobblestone)
- Yukiko (10/5): -
- Darren (10/5): - The hotel is perfectly situated to explore Old Cairo.
The staff were friendly and kind.
We had breakfast and dinner which was provided free of charge including drinks.
The food was excellent and freshly cooked every day.
The ground floor has a working museum and workshop supporting local crafts and gifts to purchase.
We would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
- Andrew (10/5): Stylish place in the heart of Al Moezz street area - Unique stylish and very good property Warm welcome in the heart of the Al Moezz street area. Nothing
- Donna (10/5): - Absolutely loved this hotel! The traffic in Cairo is generally very noisy at night but I slept really well here, I think because it's in the old part of Cairo that it's quieter at night. The staff were incredibly nice and we had a lovely dinner there when we arrived. The room was very beautiful. They gave us a packed breakfast because our flight was leaving early the next day which was very kind of them. Excellent value for money.
- Michael (9/5): -
- fabrizio (10/5): -
- Paul (10/5): Beautiful spot. Loved the people. Will go back for sure. - In the heart of the real old Cairo. All laid out around a beautiful interior courtyard with water feature. We loved the Khan el-Khalili bazaar. The cafes were so fun after dark. So much gorgeous architecture all around. The real hubbub of Cairo abounds. Love it! Family style breakfasts and dinners were excellent, and we met such nice people. The place has real history and the kind staff really care that you have a good stay.
Ruido
- Rachel (9/5): Mostly great. Staff was wonderful & kitchen & food was amazing! Charming in every way but take ear plugs. - Great authentic style & location. More noisy than desired because it’s in the middle of street & right off main markets & tourists shopping spots.
- Kirill (8/5): - Location, atmosphere Little bit noise night time ( noise from the street)
- Duncan (10/5): - Friendly staff and location Nothing
- Jim Panse62 (10/5): - Hier stimmte einfach alles.
- Božena (10/5): Chcete si užít historické staré město a k tomu zažít ramadan? Lepší místo nenajdete... - Naprosto výjimečné ubytování. Moc dobré jidlo snídaně a večeře. Velmi milý a ochotný personál. Jsem nadšená. Nemám co vytknout.
- Nour (8/5): - Very, very kind staff – it really feels like a family. The location is perfect if you want to see the history of Egypt. The rooms are clean. The rooms are a bit small (which is logical for such a historic location), and the area is very busy. So if you are an early sleeper or looking for a very quiet place, this might not be the best option for you.
- Andrew (9/5): Fantastic place if you want to be in the middle of Old Cairo. - Unique setting. Clean and comfortable. Extremely helpful, friendly and kind staff. Made to feel very welcome.
- Dominique Steiler (10/5): - Everyone was really friendly and dedicated, especially Nahla A bit noisy at night
- Susan (10/5): -
- David (10/5): outstanding - great breakfast and location n/a
- Siraj (9/5): Very comfortable stay. Very nice, friendly and helpful staff. Tasty home cooked food. - Location. Very well maintained. Beautiful property None
- Susan (9/5): Friendly and helpful in the perfect location - Location. Wonderful helpful staff Nothing but a lot of stairs to climb!
- Małgorzata (10/5): -
- mary (4/5): Disappointed that car transfer service did not monitor time of our delayed flight and driver had no knowledge of limited - There were some lovely staff The location of the hotel means you can’t be dropped by Taxi at the door and you must carry your luggage a long way over rough streets
My luggage was damaged in process
- felix (9/5): -
- eve marine (10/5): - Not for everyone because it is right in the centre of the incredible buzz of Old Cairo, but absolutely stunning
- Alexander (7/5): - Staff were very friendly throughout and helpful. The two ladies on breakfast duty cooked me breakfast after it was officially over. Wish my room hadn't been road side, very noisy even with silicone earplugs, but I slept.
- Andrea (9/5): A real experience! - Great hotel for staying in the old town! The staff was extremely friendly! We will def. come back!
- Cyprien (10/5): -
- Estelle (10/5): - This hotel was recommended to us by a previous Swiss guest - and we were not disappointed! The Gamaleya is a charming boutique hotel in the center of oldtown Cairo. Attractions can easily be reached by foot and the neighborhood is very lively. The hotel itself is a small oasis of calm. Everyone was so friendly and we immediately felt at home! We loved our stay:)
Rien
- Millie (8/5): We really enjoyed our stay - Location was amazing, really friendly staff, very interesting conversations with people, the ethos and story of project is great and really buy into what the owner Abraham is doing. Food was good and had authentic Egyptian feel.
- Felipe (10/5): -
- Omayma (10/5): Great experience - Right in the heart of Khan el Khalili, the Gamaleya Boutique Hotel provides everything you may need to make your stay memorable. I was very lucky to meet the owner of the hotel, Dr. Ibrahim, who kindly joined me at dinner. I really enjoyed our conversation and appreciated his warm and welcoming personality. I would also like to thank Aya and Habiba for the delicious food, they did a wonderful job! Overall, my experience at the hotel was very good, and I highly recommend it.
Rien
- Munther (8/5): -
- debora (10/5): - Beautiful hotel with character in a very vibrant and walkable area, with amazing staff and a generous breakfast. There is a fair trade craft centre attached to the hotel with very nice pieces. Would definitely recommend! The area is very lively but my also be very noisy; our room was quiet and the windows seem robust, but for light sleepers I would recommend askong specifically for a quiet room
- meisang (6/5): The old egyptian culture is huge ! We tried hart to keep that in our mind! - staff are nice! the outside environment is just too dirty ! It is too difficult to order Uber taxi coming to the front of hotel for picking up!
Our kids found a bed bug in their bed. This ruined almost the whole trip for them. The hotel must do even more work at sanitory !
- Costanza (3/5): Bad value for money, many things to improve - Food, staff We’ve chosen this place as we wanted to stay at a nice hotel and treat ourselves at the end of our holiday in Egypt. It is well located, and the food and the staff were really nice.
The rest however, was very disappointing for the price we’ve paid.
1. The hotel quoted 40EUR for an airport transfer when all other hotels in Cairo quote 20EUR.
2. The room we were given was extremely small, and the pictures mix actual rooms with common areas, making it appear as if they’re part of what you’re paying for. They are not.
3. We were told upon arrival that since we arrived after 4pm, the dinner the hotel serves in their all-inclusive offer wouldn’t be served. It was later served, but this policy was not communicated to us.
4. We’ve found hair in our bed, and reported it to the hotel staff. After the bed was cleaned and beddings substituted, we’ve found several more hair but at that point didn’t even bother reporting it again as we were just tired from our travels.
5. In the shower, the ceiling power jet was not working, and the toilet (or pipes next to it) were leaking water.
6. WiFi was not working upon our arrival, thankfully it was fixed about an hour later by staff.
7. We wanted to make tea in the common area kettle, but it hasn’t been cleaned in a long time.
When reporting some of the above issues, we were met by a manager who complained about the staff being too junior. This felt quite uncomfortable as we’re guests, and internal staffing issues shouldn’t involve us. The manager also only talked to my husband, completely ignoring me.
If a Cairo hotel charges European prices, the level of service and facilities should correspond, and Gamalaya just doesn’t have that at the moment. The place has potential, the artist stations on ground floor seep identity, breakfasts and dinners are great, but it has no business calling itself a boutique hotel until above issues are ironed out. We regret choosing Gamaleya as our “treat ourselves” hotel to finish our Egypt trip.
- Laurenti (8/5): Will definitely come back - All staff is amazing, from the reception to the cleaners and cooking team. Mona in particular, with her breakfast and dinners was simply amazing. Also, stunning location! Hot water wasn't working (stopped a day later) the toilet door didn't close properly - guys, please fix it, and the sink is leaking water - also needs fixing.
- AlessandroA95 (9/5): -
- Roger (10/5): An absolute jewel - The most friendly staff and unique property in an ideal location. The food served at dinner and breakfast was so good and nothing was too much trouble. I would really recommend staying here and hope to visit again. Nothing.
- Linda (9/5): Very nice staff and clean room - The staff was very friendly although I arrived in the middle of the night they brought me chocolate and juice which was very appreciated after a long day. The owner was there to greet me and make sure everything was alright. I had fresh made breakfast in the morning. The room was clean and nothing to complain about. Good value for the money The hotel was situated in a very central area which makes it easy to visit tourists attractions, but however if you are a solo female traveler like me you may feel a little uncomfortable about the area itself as it is in the middle of really busy Cairo, but of course that has nothing to do with the hotel itself but only the location
- Kayoko (10/5): -
- Rachel (10/5): -
- Deb (9/5): Recommended! - Excellent location & wonderful staff A little street noise through the night
- Stuart (10/5): A real find in the heart of Cairo Old Town - Service Smiles and Sanctuary - Amazing staff and Maria the guest liaison couldn't have been more helpful . Lovely room , great food and lots of smiles . A real discovery in the heart of the old town Well I'm having to think hard here but the hot water was a bit sparse but it didn't lessen our great stay
- Srini_1729 (8/5): - The location just off the al Moez street is fabulous. You are smack in the middle of historic Cairo.
The staff in the kitchen & front desk are friendly, helpful and make you feel at home. The food we are here was among the best across our entire trip. The bathroom was tiny.
- Matthew (8/5): Great way to experience Islamic Cairo. - Location is amazing. But you need to walk Room was very small.
- Hoja123 (8/5): - Stuff are friendly. Two meals are included per day.
- Laura (7/5): -
