Guest Reviews

- Juerg (8/5): -
- Silvio Bettinsoli (9/5): - Bellissima location. Staff gentilissimo e disponibile.
- Erwin (10/5): Great for birding - Very warm welcome by the host of the Lodge (that is a little down the road from the restaurant. We went with her husband and guide Alex at 5:20 AM to search for Quetzales and saw four. When we came back we had breakfast on the terrace of the restaurant and had it almost for our own (it gets very busy during lunch with groups).
- JC-S (6/5): - Emplacement Nature Espace reduit, manque chauffage, seul chauffage d'appoint insuffisant...
- Carolyn (9/5): I would rent a cabin there again. - The location is incredibly beautiful with paths for hiking and a garden for bird watching. The restaurants nearby had good food and humming bird feeders. The cabins are small for our group of 4 and had uncomfortable seating.
- Heather (7/5): -
- Timothy (10/5): Wonderful location, birds, staff and Quetzal! - Great rustic bungalow in quiet forest location with wood burner. A little tricky drive but worth the effort with great staff, wonderful birds and walking tour with Alex. Really good food at Miriam's restaurant also but watch opening times. Highly recommended.
- Stephanie (8/5): -

- Vinicio (9/5): Superb - Lindo lugar, silencioso
- Malvern (8/5): Very good -
- Susan (8/5): Fantastic high elevation cabinas offering fresh air, pure water, outstanding birding on site and in the vicinity. - Fantastic birds on site and at the very nearby Miriam’s cafe. Peaceful, great trails, bird friendly plants for optimal close viewing. Rustic comfort. For us, it was all we hope for in nature travel.
- Nienke (8/5): Loved being here - Beautiful cabin with great view, close to different restaurant options, great cafe with different bird species. Friendly staff. Nothing
- Perahia (10/5): Exceptional - It's very cute to discover the quetzales area.
Liliane and her Sister miriam (restaurant next door) and very sweet and welcoming. Really enjoyed our visit !
- Felix (9/5): Superb -
- Sebastien (9/5): Superb -
- Ladybeetle (9/5): Bird lovers paradise - The cabin was very basic, but had plenty of blankets on the beds for the cold nights. The restaurant served good Costa Rican food. Loved the patio at the restaurant with all the bird feeders. Cell service is spotty to non-existent, so appreciated the WiFi to be able to keep in contact when we got back to the cabin in the evenings. Be aware that the road into the valley is VERY steep and narrow.
- Leon (8/5): Very good - Beautiful mountain property with lots of birds and hiking trail. Miriam's restarant is nearby. Good, fresh water from faucet. The room was bright and comfortable. Cool and quiet at night. Mosquitos in room, even with door shut. I could not get hot, or warm, water from the shower.
- Sarah (8/5): Very good -
- Chris (8/5): Lovely place - Comfortable cabin, can get good breakfast up at Miriam's, lovely surroundings with good walking track.
- Gregor (10/5): Exceptional - Nice lodges in the middle of nature. The best is breakfast in their restaurant where you can watch hummingbirds feeding.
- Mace (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mieko (8/5): Very good -
- Ivanavejrikova (10/5): Exceptional - Great restaurant with amazing view. So many birds.
The lodge was perfect, heating in case of cold nights.
- Debbie (9/5): Beautiful setting with the opportunity to see many different types of birds, including the beautiful Quetzal. - Lovely homely feel to the cabin.
In a lovely peaceful location. Tricky to work out the hot water.
- Dominique (8/5): Breathtaking views and very friendly staff - The Location, piece and bird s Bird whistle guaranteed The beds are quite hard and the small heater was insufficiënt to warm up the cabin
- Norbert (9/5): Superb -
- Hilke (10/5): Truly magical place - Fantastic place to watch birds. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. The little cabin had everything we needed and the cafe, where we went to have breakfast was teaming with birdlife. I could have spent the whole day. Truly magical place.
- Sam (9/5): Thanks especially to Liliana for her comms and ensuring I got there safely and had everything I needed, even when my arr - Cosy and convenient
- Diane (8/5): Perfect for our purpose in the area. - Liked the privacy and the setting. It was close enough to walk to restaurants. Their guide was fantastic! There were large spaces around the doors and windows that allowed bugs in and hot air from the heater out.
- Reyna (8/5): Birds, Mist and Cloud Mountain Roads - The cabin was very cozy and with views of the cloud forest from our window. We loved the restaurant for breakfast, especially with the large variety of birds that we could observe while eating. Hummingbirds were coming within a few inches of us at some points.
- Paul (10/5): Just stay here and enjoy the birding 👌 - Brilliant birding location with amazing wildlife on your doorstep. The Cabana was clean, comfortable and had parking. Food at nearby Miriam’s Restaurant was superb with amazing birding from the patio. Would definitely go back Nothing to dislike
- Arthur (9/5): Superb - The trail behind cabins and forests around cabins
- Jeffrey (10/5): Totalmente recomendable, voy a regresar - Lugar encantador
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional - We loved everything! Peaceful location, comfortable cabin, lovely owner. The same family owns the cafe 500m up the road where you can watch a broad range of birds (we saw a quetzal there!) and we had a delicious breakfast in the morning.
- Patricia (10/5): Exceptional - The forest was lovely, so peaceful and very beautiful. The trails were in disrepair and we weren't able to hike on them. There is a nacional park not too far away so we went there for hiking. We missed being able to hike on the trails at the cabin though. Even so we do plan to return. 😀
- Andrew (9/5): A little gem of a place with spectacular bird life in the middle of nowhere. - We loved this place. If you like birdwatching it’s spectacular. The chance of seeing the resplendent Quetzal is there but breakfast with the hummingbirds and other bird life is an experience you will not forget. The kitchen doesn’t serve alcohol but it does serve delicious local rainbow trout for dinner. Try the trout soup. Its a number of Cabinas type huts on the side of a hill with basic facilities and no frills. There is a steep 300 metre climb to the breakfast area at Miriam’s. There is a hiking area further down but the road is very steep.
- Emily (10/5): Peaceful and beautiful - Such a unique place to stay with beautiful surroundings. The cabin was so cosy with a heater and the beds have plenty of covers to keep you warm. It also has a heater, plus a fridge which we found useful. When we arrived we found the cafe very easily and then we were shown down to the cabin. The hosts also helped booking us onto a quetzal watching tour the next morning with an incredible guide, and we got to see both male and female quetzals - what an experience. The food at the cafe including the free breakfast was great, and it was great to go onto the viewing platform to see all the different types of beautiful birds. The other good thing about Miriam's is that it isn't too far down the mountain road, as we only had a small car. We enjoyed this more basic style accommodation as you felt close to nature. Outside the front of our cabin was a little table and chairs and we just sat there when we arrived and listened to the birds. Would definitely recommend.
- Holly (8/5): Very good -
- Ruth (8/5): Good stay for birding in san Gerardo - Basic chalet with everything you need
Great breakfast at Miriam’s 500m up the hill
Cosy woodstove in the evening
- Neal (10/5): Cloud forest is a rain forest! - Very spacious grounds and gorgeous cabins with beautiful views all around. The breakfast was outstanding at the family owned restaurant up the roads little. They have a deck and various bird feeders to bring in a variety of birds up close and personal. Very friendly family run business. The booking name and the actual name led to some confusion finding the place. The access road is very narrow making it a challenge to navigate the road in the rain. These were very minor concerns.
- Kevin (8/5): very good value and able to hook us up with an excellent guide (Carlos) - saw quetzel!!! - Very reasonably priced Accommodation in very popular area - especially since dinner and bkfst were included. Very pleasant people at accomodation and meal location. Miriams restaurant - although small - has an excellent bird viewing deck to see hummingbirds etc/ Beds could be more comfortable and lighting could be brighter.
- Dagmar (9/5): Superb - coffee maker in the cabin; nice view; beautiful terrace with feeding station and great bird watching opportunity
- Jonas (6/5): nature but uncomfortable - a perfect location for seeing birds the cabin was cool and very humid. it is in a rather shady spot without the good bird plants around
