Janine seems like a nice person. Writing this for transparency so that other guests know what to expect.
Our double room was situated right between the owners living space and their kitchen.
The bathroom, whilst exclusive to us, was located across the corridor along the main thoroughfare of the family home. This meant trips to the bathroom involved awkward interactions. Personally, I wouldn’t describe this as a private bathroom.
The communal kitchenette sadly wasn’t particularly clean. It is the family’s kitchen. When we needed to use this, the family had naturally occupied the tiny space to cook their meal. On inspection, some pans and kitchenware were unclean. We attempted to wash all items before use, but the sponge in the sink was old and filthy. There were flies in the kitchen, and you could see more squashed flies on the ceiling in our bedroom where guests had squashed them.
The log burner, described as a “key feature of the room” is in a communal space about two metres from the toddlers play area.
The room only had one curtain? And one fell away from the window.
With regards to peace and privacy, we felt very let down. Between 5 and 8pm their small and lively toddler ran around the entire space shrieking, screaming and crying. People were shouting back and forth right outside our door. There was no attempt to lower voices for guests, which made us uncomfortable. In essence, we paid to stay in their spare room for the night.
We we’re woken by house noise at 4am, again by the baby crying at 5am, and again by the postal van parking right outside the window blasting music.
Needless to say by 8am we just wanted to get out. A quick trip to the kitchen to get some water showed the family’s dirty washing still in the sink from the night before. The final insult was then getting messages from Janine accusing us of not paying. We thought we had pre paid and corrected our mistake right away, but her messages felt unprofessional and confrontational.

- Andre (8/5): For a stay in a quiet location. - The room is comfortable and the place very peaceful. The best thing, however, is Janine's friendliness. The bathroom was very spacious and, although it wasn't a suite, it was exclusive to our room. The water in the shower, however, wouldn't come down. The other issue was the breakfast. I expected more. There were other options but they had to be paid for, not included. I thought that was bad. Finally, the location. It's very peaceful, but there are no restaurants nearby. You have to go to neighbouring towns to get something to eat. But none of this got in the way of our stay.
- Hubert (10/5): Exceptional - A real home from home, and an amazing host Nothing.
- Mónica (9/5): Very nicely done. The room is very spacious, clean and bed very comfortable. - The exteriors patio can be a bit more charming
- Wilhelmina (8/5): Very good -
- Daniel (10/5): Tolles bed and breakfast! - Sehr angenehm
- Gecko70 (7/5): Lovely stay with a bit of a bad starting - A nice quiet town we used as a stop on our trip in CH. The facilities are great, breakfast was nice, with various Swiss cheeses. The fireplace was lit and we had a nice chat with the owner. We got off on a bad start. Although we had announced our arrival time, nobody was there and calling the number that was left on the reception desk many times only resulted in 'the person you're calling cannot take your call right now'. After waiting for 45 minutes I was about to search for another hotel when I heard noises upstairs. I called out up the staircase and found that the owners lived upstairs. The husband couldn't tell us which room was ours though, but eventually we were given a room.
Later on, we were told the lady who's running the place had been out and in an area without reception. Well, these things can happen and judging from the many positive reviews I'm sure it's a rare incident. They are lovely, helpful people. But maybe some kind of backup system would be good...
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - very flexible with late checkin and checkout
breakfast at 12:00 was no problem :) noisy street in front of the window
- Pascal (8/5): Very good -
