Guest Reviews
- Angela (10/5): Relaxation at its best surrounded by tranquility and nature - Tranquility, seclusion and the history of the build We loved everything about this property
- Linda (8/5): Loved in and will stay again - Location fantastic, ,great ambience with the oldy/worldy touches Bed was not very comfortable
Shower in the ambience but difficult to use without getting everything wet
- Stuart (10/5): -
- Kagey (10/5): Beautiful cottage on top of a small mountain close to Seven Hills surrounded by trees and wildlife. -
- Zavora (10/5): - Out of town just enough to feel like you were far away, but less than 10 min drive to everything.
- Bev (9/5): A perfect haven for a relaxing getaway. - The location was very private, peaceful & tranquil. It was only a few kilometres from the nearest town but still offered a great sense of serenity. There was an abundance of native wildflowers, bushland & even some fauna to enjoy. The cottage was very cosy, comfortable & charming. A dishwasher.
- Fiona (10/5): Property was amazing, Lisa was easy to communicate and left lots of nice thoughtful touches to the place. Will be return -
- Dennis (9/5): a rare find - outstanding location, quiet with lovely views and isolated. Cottage was charming, comfortable and basic nothing significant
- Felicia (10/5): Highly recommend if you like being in the middle of nowhere - The location, the cottage was cute The shower
- Angela (8/5): Very good -
- Catherine (10/5): Peaceful and relaxing - Lovely tranquil location. We enjoyed the opportunity to sit outside on the sun deck and admire the surroundings. The sunset was beautiful and the evening sky was filled with stars.
- Namita (8/5): Very good -
- Andrew (9/5): We enjoyed two very relaxing days and nights at Trestrails. Our host, Liss, was very helpful. - Attention to detail. The stonework and all the furniture and decore. The “summer” room outside where we watched the sunrise and sunset.
- Lauren (10/5): Exceptional - the peace and tranquil setting nothing
- Anonymous (10/5): Magical stay - A very special place, set in 100 acres all to yourselves. There are bushwalking tracks right at your doorstep. The hand built stone cottage itself is fascinating! Every part of the house tells a story. Owner is a pleasure to deal with, very generous and hospitable (but giving us complete privacy). A short drive to all the main cellar doors. (We didn't dislike it but just a note for others:) We had a 4WD so driving up the dirt road to the house was a breeze. If you have a 2WD with low clearance, try to arrive during the day.
- Camille (10/5): Exceptional - We felt welcomed from the get go in our correspondence with Lisa. The house and setting were utterly tranquil. The cottage was decorated with a lot of thought and charm. Breakfast provisions were generous. We felt rejuvenated at the end of our stay. It was interesting to read about the history of the site in the Trestrail book, which had lots of great pictures and commentary. A few too many spiders, but that's what you get when you're out in nature!
- Kieran (10/5): Perfect for our honeymoon, we'd love to visit again for an anniversary. - Loved the attention to detail. Romantic, secluded location, perfect for our honeymoon. Enjoyed the summer bed and outdoor shower, walking on the property and the proximity to wineries and restaurants.
- Kimberley (10/5): Book this stay!! You won’t regret it! - There isn’t anything bad to say about this place. If you read any reviews let it be this one that tells you to book this place to stay!! It’s charming, welcoming and secluded! The cottage itself is old school but everything in it works! The added space outside is just the icing on the cake!! The chairs are comfortable, there are blankets for the cooler weather and the view speaks for itself. Your host is exceptional, she kind and thoughtful and didn’t hesitate to pick up the phone!! She’s honestly thought of everything. You won’t leave disappointed and you will want to stay forever and not want to leave!! There was nothing we didn’t like. The only thing I’d mention is if your a soft mattress owner like us the bed was a tad hard. But nothing that we didn’t get used to.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sue (8/5): Very good -
- Melinda (10/5): Trestrail Cottage is a unique and very special place to stay. - Trestrail Cottage is the perfect place to unwind. The surrounding bush land is beautiful. From the moment you step inside, you feel at home. We enjoyed everything… the outdoor room was a great spot to enjoy the local wine left; the sauna and cold shower promoted a sense of wellness and we loved the fire at night. There wasn’t anything that impacted our stay.
- Sal (10/5): An ideal location to explore the Clare wine region, a beautiful romantic weekend or just to recharge and unplug. - Tranquillity, nature, relaxing. Sauna was good too!
- Chris (10/5): Old world charm, great to disconnect and be in the moment - Location, vibe, fire, sauna, nature, proximity to great wine and restaurants
- Joanne (10/5): This property soothes the soul. I can not recommend it enough! - From the moment we pulled into the driveway I felt myself relax. This property is magical! Everything about it soothes the senses. The sauna and outdoor shower was invigorating and made us feel alive. The cottage was homely and comfortable. I spent all weekend saying, ‘isn’t it just beautiful’? Next time I would bring our food so we could be self sufficient. We loved every minute of our stay.
- Yee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Greg1964 (8/5): Cozy cottage getaway. - The location of the cottage was excellent, nestled in the heart of the Clare Valley wine region.
One of the highlights of our stay was the outdoor areas of the cottage. There was a lovely outdoor BBQ area and fire pit which was perfect for enjoying a glass of wine or two in front of a warm fire. The cozy fire on arrival was much appreciated!
- Deb (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful cottage set amongst spectacular surrounds. Loved sleeping outdoors under the stars.
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Jane (10/5): I fully recommend this venue, it was perfect 10/10 🙂 - So much character in the cottage. So quiet, very private. The drive up the hill was a little challenging, but do able.
- Richard (7/5): Not comfortable - Located near to wineries Mattress worn out, bouncy, springs lost stiffness. At $240/night the bed needs to be hotel quality. Narrow long one way access track, steep, difficult for night driving, scrapped our little hire car. Next time will bring 4WD Ute and inflatable mattress
- Brian (9/5): Superb -
- Penelope (10/5): Exceptional -
- 9clouds (9/5): Seeking a true hideway in a true aussie way? This little cottage is where you should go. - The location and the privacy. It's the only house nestled among the bushes, but still close to the wineries, bakery, restaurant etc. I also like the summer bed, spent a lot time with a book and a cup of tea there in the afternoon. The handwritten welcome letter is a very personal touch. Nothing much. Only pity we're unable to use the sauna (it looks great!) and can't do BBQ or camp fire as it's fire ban season. No Wi-Fi, so no streaming movies on TV, but we can use data on the phone, so it's not that inconvenient.
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Jane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emily (10/5): Beautiful retreat - Stunning views over the valley. Beautiful setting, and very peaceful. The cottage was full of charm and character, with a very comfortable lounge perfect for reading and relaxing, and a beautiful bedroom with heritage furnishings. An outdoor room with armchairs and a daybed for enjoying the view in the late afternoon and evening was a perfect addition. We liked everything.
- Peter (9/5): Superb -
- Andrea (10/5): It's just magic, we didn't want to leave and can't wait to go again - Beautiful & private location, tucked in high up on the side of the hill surrounded by gorgeous bush land, views over the valley and everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. We didn't get to use the sauna this time, we're saving it for a winter trip. All the little treasures and trinkets around the house kept us delighted as we kept finding new ones, the outdoor pavilion was an amazing place to curl up with a book and a nice local red wine. We had kangaroos in the front garden, along with a deer we met while out walking. This place is just magic and I wish I could call it home. Big thanks to our lovely host Lisa and congratulations on a wonderful job done with this property. Nothing, for us it was truly perfect.
- Sel (9/5): Superb -
- Nick (10/5): Perfect romantic getaway. - The local was special and the cabin itself with Sauna and outside deck were superb.
- David (9/5): Superb -
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennifer (10/5): A fantastic start to our holiday that exceeded expectations - Loved the exciting drive to the property, the serenity and isolation, the knick knacks to explore in the cottage, the gazebo was perfect for the cocktail hour. The breakfasts were generous (very delicious bacon) - way beyond our capacity to finish! N/A
- Ann-marie (10/5): A tranquil and charming little cottage beautifully appointed - thank you Lisa for a fabulous stay -
- Gabi (10/5): Romantic seclusion - Private, romantic, and relaxing. Lovely space for a couple to connect. Bush walking, fire place and real sauna a big plus. Steep access of drive way would be a challenge in very bad weather, but not bad, doable.
- Julie (10/5): amazing spot, would visit again - The Location, the sauna, the sun room no shampoo & conditioner provided
- Lindy (9/5): Cute cottage getaway - A beautiful stone cottage, set in bushland, that is an escape from the busy city. It had everything you need and fascinating knick knacks inside. Each window had a lovely view of the landscape outside.
- Wendy (10/5): relaxing magical location - privacy. wild life on our walks

- Lizinoz (10/5): Peaceful, beautiful and surrounded by nature. - We loved everything about our stay. It reminded me of my Scottish grandmother’s house 50 years ago.
Everything is so well thought out and we wanted for nothing . We were in awe of the craftsmanship and the stonework was beautiful. Even the thought of getting it built up there blew our mind!
The surroundings were so tranquil we didn’t want to leave, but we’d come to cycle….and we had easy access to so many gravel roads we were spoilt.
Lisa provided the perfect provisions for two vegetarians and we had two enormous and delicious breakfasts. We liked everything. If it was “well behaved dog” friendly it would be 110%

- Anonymous (10/5): A must do experience - Everything from the sauna facilities, getting the combustion heating going; being cozy and enveloped by pure serenity and waking up to the sound of nothing but nature, it's just the best. Everything was perfect but I think the bath tub needs some minor fixes for better comfort if I had to say anything...
- An (8/5): Very good -
- Botha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gabriella (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (10/5): A beautiful cosy retreat and a wonderful getaway. - The cottage was very well appointed, cosy and private.
- Hosking (10/5): An unexpected gem of a beautiful well appointed cottage in a superb location. - A delightful experience. The cottage was exceptionally pleasant. Everything was provided to a degree not usually found elsewhere. Beautiful location. Lovely extras like a spa and a wonderful separate sheltered outside room with a great view and where you could sit and enjoy the scenery from on top of the highest point of the unspoiled 100 acres of native bush. But also only 5 - 15 minutes from wineries and top notch eating options. And a great owner.
- Leesa (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic property. The breakfast provisions are excellent and I love that the fire is going when you arrive. Nothing.
- Catherine (10/5): Cannot fault it - terrific experience in every way. - Setting was wonderful. It was peaceful, snug and beautifully set up. The bush setting with the wildlife and total privacy was really appreciated. Lots of great walks available on the property. Also nice and handy to Clare, local restaurants and all the regional wineries. Breakfast provisions were great and matched exactly our specific requests. Nothing - all was great.
