- johannes (8/5): - Staff was nice. Owner had a bit of direct communication which looked a bit impolite at first but in the end all was arranged and you got proper information.
- Sylvie (8/5): -
- Nicole (10/5): -
- Fanny (10/5): - The owner is literally the best person ever! She is welcoming and knowledgeable. She knows the island so well so it’s very easy to rely on her to know the different hiking paths for safety reasons.
Photos are exactly the same as the property Nothing!

What else ?
- Estela (10/5): -
- Kaja (10/5): A wondeful stay - They organized a taxi for us that picked us up in the port and took us to the starting point of the crater hike. The taxi then took our luggage to the accommodation and they collected it. This way we saved a lot of time (and energy). They also helped us bring the luggage back down at the check out and scheduled a bus for us. The wifi was a bit poor but they kept on fixing it. The shower had almost no pressure.
- Guest (10/5): -
- Laetitia (8/5): Authentic place to stay into Valley’s Paul - Really great location in Paul valley !
The room was basic but we slept very well. The owner is an energic woman with a strong personality but she is always present to provide help and share infos.
Just no wifi into the room which can help to disconnect
- Ulrike (9/5): - hübsches Ensemble, eingebettet in wunderbarer Natur
gemeinsames sehr gutes Abendessen
Taxi regelen was heel ingewikkeld.
- Othman (4/5): What i like what not - Calm , if you like walking walking to the hotel that's your place
If you are doing Quick hikes that's your place for long ones it's better to reserve at Paul or Rebeira Grande Hard way to get to the Hotel
Not easy to find what to eat
Isolated Place
The cuisine close at 7pm if you didn't showed up at time no food for you for the night
Not easy to find aluger (taxi) at night
At places like those the hotel must be accessible and friendly not they will be an obstacle for you
- Roc (7/5): "Entorn espectacular i atenció acurada, tot i alguns detalls millorables a l'allotjament."
- Nadine (10/5): Unique accomodation to explore Santo Antão - Me and my sister had a wonderful time at Casa das Ilhas. We did amazing hikes, thanks to the owner Katelijne, who indicated the routes on our phone and arranges the transfer to the starting point of the hike. That was really great! Each evening we enjoyed a tasty dinner after a long day of hiking. The rooms are basic but contain everything you need, including a beautiful view and a very comfortable bed. We would definitely come back! Nothing!
- Léa (10/5): -
- teresa (10/5): Just like home - We really liked the hospitality and the care that Katelijne has for her guests. The host helped us organise the various trekkings that we did, and told us which were the best ones for our level.
The food was very good, breakfast is very generous and you also have the possibility to have lunch at the table or as a picnic (usefull if you are planning a long walk). Dinners are all together and the food is high quality.
If you want to feel at home this is the right place for you.
The new added pool is just what you need after a tiring day, and the view will just blow your minds.
To get to the hotel there is a bit of a walk, but there will be people helping you out with your luggage, and the beautiful view and great hospitality are absolutely worth it.
The island is gorgeous and the stay at Casa Das Ilhas is a must!
- Mark (10/5): Relaxing in a beautiful location. - Helpful owner and staff.
Food and drinks on an honesty box system.
Table d'hôtes where people mix and socialize during breakfast and dinner.
Homemade jam and yoghurt at breakfast. WIFi could be better. It was not usable in my room or on the terrace. Ok in the main building.
- Tomasz (8/5): Very good - A perfect place for those who know why they've come to Santo Antão – and who value atmosphere and simplicity over touristy attractions.
Ideal base for hitting the hiking trails – the location is great, and Katelijne is super helpful with organizing routes or transport...or anything you need. You can really disconnect from the outside world here.
Bonus: amazing view from the window :) Not for everyone – but for the right kind of traveler, it’s exactly what you’re looking for.
You can/have to fully disconnect here: both thanks to the remote setting and the limited Wi-Fi (available only in the common area).
- Annechien (8/5): Nice stay at a hospitable accommodation - Beautiful view of the valley from the terrace of the room. The dinner was good. Everything ok,
Optional: a mosquito net would be a nice addition to the room.
- Elizabete (10/5): There is no heaven on earth but Casa das Ilhas is pretty close! Staying at Casa das Ilhas has added memories we will che - Everything was so nice, from the landscape, the immersion in nature and above all the people at the property. We felt welcome even before we arrived and we were part of the family the moment we passed the door! Our host is extremely caring and ensures that each guest gets the suitable guidance for their activities on a daily basis. We loved the dinners with the other guests and the sharing of experiences. The food was deliciously prepared. Nothing was overlooked! Nothing
- Raphael (10/5): The highlight of our trip in Cabo Verde. Incredible location stunning views, great food and lots of tailored advice for -
- Andrew (10/5): A perfect place to stay to experience the beauty of Santo Antão! -
- Lynn (7/5): Good - The hotel is in the middle of nowhere, to get to the hotel you have to get up by foot about 15 min up the hill. Be aware that the workers are the ones to lift the luggage.
The hotel has a peaceful and beautiful view of Paul's Valley, there is nothing around, not restaurants or supermarkets, only the sound of birds and dogs.
Wheter you want to hike or visit the island by taxi, this hotel is super well connected.
The best part of the hotel are the gatherings during breakfast and dinner, when everyone share their plans for the day or tell about their experience hiking. Understanding that Santo Antão is an island with very few ressources, breakfast and dinner for people with food restriction is not balanced and even though they will tell that they will adapt the menu, they won't do it.
- Marta (10/5): Hiker's paradise - Stunning location, in the mountain (you have to walk 10-15 minutes to get to the house); Kathelin's permanent availability to help and advise on whatever questions we had; Welcoming and efficient staff; Delicious, carefully prepared, breakfast and dinner; Overall, a great home-like feel atmosphere, with very nice guests from different countries. Water pressure is rather low (but hot water is not a problem, works perfectly).
- Andrzej (10/5): Exceptional - I loved this place surrounded by bloomed sugar cane with amazing view on Paul valley. The host Lady is very busy but also very helpful and easygoing person. I was advised about few really nice trails I had no idea those are existing and also shared taxi with other guests. Meals are delicious for fair price.
To avoid disappointment it's good to know about general problems involved in Cape Verde like water or electricity limitation. It should not be a problem for a typical hiker.
- Robert (10/5): Fantastic Place - Amazing place to stay - beautiful views in every direction. Rooms are simple, but comfortable and great value for the price. The included breakfast was a good start to the day and the dinners served communally for a reasonable charge were very filling and locally sourced. It was nice to meet other travelers - not as easy to do these days. The owner is a dynamo who can take care of everything while switching between French, English, German and Portuguese. It was election season and the campaign ads blasting through the valley were mind-numbing. They did stop by 6pm and it's only for a few weeks every 4 years.
- Marc (9/5): Special place with good attention. - Incredible location, nice staff and excellent attention. One of my favorite hotels during my 2 weeks trip around Cabo Verde! You will be dependent in terms of food and drinks because of the location.
- Raquel (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing stay, the breakfast was the incredible and the views were breathtaking. 12/10 stay, absolutely a must if you are traveling to Santo Antão. Everything super clean, we slept super well and the staff was so kind and helpful!
- Rita (10/5): Absolutely excellent stay at Casa das Ilhas - Excellent location, with a beautiful landscape, immersed in nature.
Upon inquiring about transport from Porto Novo (where the ferry takes you) to the accommodation, the Casa das Ilhas staff kindly arranged an aluguer (minibus and main public transport in the island) that took us all the way to the accommodation. As there is no drivable road access from the road to the accommodation, the staff has also provided someone who helped us out with the luggage.
The accommodation is located in the most beautiful place, overlooking the valley.
The wifi worked fine.
The breakfast and other optional meals were in group with the rest of the travellers. You can arrange the breakfast time though.
Casa das Ilhas provided dinner (approximately 12€): you can ask vegan or vegetarian. I am vegan and my friend is vegetarian and the food was great and plenty. They do a different dish every time but you won't be choosing from a menu. It is what they give you and it is mostly done with locally produced products. Absolutely recommend. It includes drink, main and dessert. Although I think the dinners were a bit pricy for the local prices, it is absolutely worth it, especially as the accommodation is located in a remote place, it can be quite useful to have dinner in Casa das Ilhas as it can be quite of a walk to the next restaurant.
There are snacks, drinks and coffee that you can take whenever you wish to, note it down and pay in the end.
The staff was very useful providing information and maps of the different hikes that can be done in Santo Antao.
The outdoors space is good for socialising, whilst enjoying the magnificent landscape.
I really recommend Casa das Ilhas!
- Patsy (10/5): Wonderful place on a paradise-like location and with an excellent host! If you come to Santo Antao make sure to visit th - The location and the host of this stay are both excellent. Fantastic views, you really feel on top of the world. Katelijne is very helpful and gives wonderful suggestions to do. We have never been treated beter at a stay. The dinner is lovely and an excellent way to meet people. The staff is also very friendly. We really had nothing to dislike. Beware however this stay is located on the mountain and takes a nice climb, really good to develop good calves and glutes.
- Mariana (8/5): Very good - The staff was lovely, dinner was communal and you got the chance to chat with everyone else staying in about their day experiences.
Felt very authentic and a beautiful place.
- Laurie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dirk (10/5): Great location, fantastic host, wonderful staff, excellent food (running out of superlatives now). - Nothing.
- Eugénie (8/5): Very nice location in Paul Valley, ideal for a stay between two hikes (you can also get recommendations from the owner). -
- Hans (7/5): Stunning location and view, but........ - We enjoyed the location of this place, which is directly on of the most beautiful trails of the valley. The local staff was very open and helpful as well as probably the ones adding the flavour to the food. It was a very quiet environment, chickens wake you up - but not too early. The guesthouse is European owned which is very clear in the daily life. Concerning the food, the quality was sad to experience. Especially, taking into account the quality of the local food availble and otherwhere we have experienced on this island. It was a sad experience to be served dinner that was mostly european and at the same time based on pasta, rice and canned vegetables. Unfortunately, it's not possible to go anywhere else for dinner as the steep trail to the house is not lit up after the sun is down.
Wifi is only availble in the common area, in which only serving tables, tables at which you eat and taburettes are availble.
When a fantastic picture of the pool is shown on the homepage, you should also expect to be at least able to use it. Itseemed to have been a long time since anybody could have been using this pool as it was quite dirty.
- Valerie (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing views! The location: great start for the best hikes around the island. The owner Katelijne is a great source of information. The food was great and we liked that we all ate together at one big table so we got to know one another. There is a fridge with drinks and snacks at a very affordable price. WiFi was good too. The mattress and cushions are really comfortable. The room we had was rather basic and a bit dark but it is not the place to be spending much time in your room. It’s too beautiful outside! We didn’t mind it at all. Water pressure was low but since we are on a mountain that is just the way it is.
- Tim (9/5): Superb - Amazing place, super good vibes. Stay here if you want to calm down and chill. WiFi connection in the room could be better, but do we really need that in such a place?
- Tanita (10/5): It was a trully healing experience for us! - An incredible host who runs the place from the genuine love for it! And she does excellent! Its not only all the languages she speaks but also the kindness and willingness to support in every sense of it. You will feel save and well taken care of!
The meals are homemade, the bed really comfy and hot water always available (unusual in the area but much needed)
- Mirza (9/5): Superb - For the dinner everyone gets the same main dish and it was everytime very delicious. The owner was very helpful, when we were organizing our hiking routes. Beautiful view from the window. Breakfast could be better.
Water pressure in the bathroom was most of the time quite low.
- The (9/5): Comfortable stay, in super friendly space with jaw dropping views and a five star supportive host. - Well, the view here are outstanding, like seriously impressive and worth the hike up the many stairs to get to the place. The host Katelijne, is possibly the most helpful and informed person we've ever had the pleasure to stay with, she has a direct no nonsense but helpful attitude, with some dry humor. The communal evening meals are all served at once, you're called to dinner, you meet your fellow travellers, it's informal, tasty and Katelijne basically sorts out your treks and adventures for the next day, sorting transport, suggesting walks, views, places to eat etc. Her suggestions, tried and tested were perfect for us. She works closely with the local community to ensure they get a fair wage, and treatment, which means she knows just about everyone and anyone there is to know. If it's possible to sort it out Katelijne will, although i suspect her patience may run thin for a demanding guest. Lucky most of us were very happy to take such good natured informed suggestions and our days trekking etc were perfect and i mean perfect with her support. The rooms are fine, quiet at night, beds comfortable, linen clean and fresh some handmade soap in the bathrooms, the water pressure is what you would expect from a small community halfway up a cliff face, but the water is hot even if the pressure is low. Bathroom is a little small, if you're on the larger size, but we worked it, our room only had half doors between the bedroom and the bathroom, so if privacy is important, consider asking about this ( the other rooms may be different), Staff were charming, helpful and efficient in that laid back Cape Verdean way, the view right outside our room was directly down the valley, a stunning gorgeous way to start or end the day. The place is surrounded by steep terraced gardens, growing produce you eat, and there's plenty of flowers and interesting plants everywhere, a few friendly dogs lounge in the sun. Excellent fresh breakfasts. The view,... a full door between the bathroom and bedroom would have been nice, but we adapted to the space and that's a small moan for what was an otherwise fine stay.
- Oleksandr (9/5): Climb to be in Peace - The views, nature, peace of the place, and the local community made for a unique experience. The ascent to that heaven was a workout that on an occasion or two I wished it had not been there. But that's the price you pay to be in that wonderful refuge.
- Manuel (8/5): Very good - Wonderful place to stay if you want to do trekking. Beautiful views Breakfast and dinner. You can eat much better in town.
- Helmut (9/5): An absolutely magnificent place in a magical natural setting !!! - After traveling the whole world I have to say that this is one of the most magnificent places that I have stayed in.
I saw the Casa das Ilhas 15 years ago and it was always on my mind that some day I would come back to Santo Antão to stay here for some days.
The location is 10 ++++++
Kathleen, the Belgium owner, makes sure that everything is running smoothly.
The scenery around the accommodation is simply breathtaking. I spent 4 days just sitting in front of my room, taking in the view, the smell and sounds of nature.
At the beginning of December the temperature in my room was constantly a comfortable 24°.
The staff is very polite and well trained.
I loved it that it was so quiet. No sound of TV, no blaring music....just the sound of nature. Even the staff talked in a low voice and also the other guests were quiet. It had the quality of a spiritual retreat !
The taxi ride along the mountain road that Kathleen booked for me is one of the most beautiful journeys on this planet !
I hope to be back soon for a much longer time to chill and recharge the battery. Just a small bed with a too soft mattress.
The shower is pretty small.
Due to the lack of space, breakfast and dinner is taken at a long table, together with the other guests.
I would have liked to eat alone and in silence.
A stronger light for reading in the bedroom would have been great.
- Diogo (10/5): Amazing place in one of the most amazing locations in the world! - Amazing experience! You feel right at home in the very heart of the amazing Vale do Paúl!! Kate is a great host: speaks all languages possible (😀), has all the guests dinner together and has a thorough knowledge of the entire island, giving great tips for hikes and restaurants! Staff was extremely friendly as well! The walk up the hill to get to Casa is quite steep but it’s like you feel rewarded once you get into this little paradise at the end of it!! I will be back for sure! Everything was perfect!
