Guest Reviews
- Barbara (4/5): Luxery Guesthouse - eher Backacker House. Kein Luxus!
- Nadine (7/5): Could be a wonderful place with a little love and attention - The location is good. Beautiful old building with a nice view of the lake if your room faces that direction. Nice terrace in front. The parking is a long walk. The whole place need love and attention.. The room furnishings are not very nice and the common areas were either off-limits to hotel guests or being used for storage. and not inviting to use. There is a lovely garden, but no place other than a single bench to sit and enjoy it. There is no AC (which is fine) but as the hotel sits on the noisy main road, the windows cannot be left open for ventilation.
- brita (6/5): -
Cama comoda.desayuno aceptable.limpio Baño compartido. Falta aparcamiento .falta mantenimiento jardín y terraza
- Christina (8/5): Very pleasant stay with lake view - Room was very comfortable and clean, with a beautiful view of the lake
Breakfast was very welcoming and staff helpful and responsive
Located very close to where the boat to Gunten arrives Shared bathroom - in general not a problem but you couldn’t use the toilet if someone was having a shower / brushing their teeth as the bathroom cubicle and the rest of the bathroom area shared a main door
- Muath (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kathleen (1/5): Absolutely horrible in all possible ways! - The location was close to bus stop. It was cheaper than other hotels in the neighbourhood. you get what you pay for, although in this case less than what you pay for... lesson learned. Absolutely Horrible!! No yard lights when I arrived at dinner time in the dark. No lights on in empty house when arrived. Everything pitch dark. Ended up at neighbor's entrance first as this was only lights on so assumed it must be the hotel entrance. They were not happy. Terrace door to my room didn't lock. The shared bathroom only locked with a hook. Not listed as a self-check-in hotel or that no staff would ever be onsite. Directions for finding a key sent only to my app not email the day of check in. Had to search around and found the key up a few stairs in a different area then entry with note saying no reception. One other guest for first night then no other guests in whole house. Wifi did not work. Tried calling phone number to hotel when arrived for assistance and phone number is disconnected. Bookings.com also could not reach the owners. I was advised to send a message so I left the owners my number asking to call right away on the bookings app since Bookings.com nor I could reach them. Nobody bothered to call me. Got an email a day later. Stuck staying in a ghost house with terrible or actually NO customer service. Never should a guest expect to arrive to a hotel in the dark, no yard lights, no inside lights, no working phone number to call for assistance, etc etc. So many things wrong with this hotel, the owners....the whole stay.
- Marcelo (7/5): Good -
- Vincent (8/5): Great value in beautiful location! - The room was nicely appointed and spacious! The shared bathroom was large and very clean. The breakfast was excellent. The internet password provided did not work.
- Viktoria (3/5): Sorry, but cant recommend this neither for the price or the stay as it looks now. - Very nice views. No welcoming message when we came, just keys on a table.
No staff around.
The website show something different than reality.
Very sad surroundings, no water in the old cracked pool, the garden was not well kept.
Very poor interior design.
Old shoes in the main entrance together with other storage things as a first impression as a customer.
The communication in the room was very poor and not customer friendly.
No parking info. We hav to park 200m away cause the Villa doesnt have a parking!
They really need professional support and advice how to change both the garden and the interior and marketing strategy.
- Kidoong (9/5): Superb - View is amazing.
Location is just 30 steps away from lake.
Old but clean. Old locking system with big physical key. Hot.
- Shahin (3/5): Overall, I was disappointed with the stay and would not recommend this property unless these issues are addressed. - I recently booked a room at this property and unfortunately had a less-than-ideal experience. Firstly, the toilet was shared, which was not clearly stated in the room description. This is a crucial detail that should be communicated upfront to potential guests.
Additionally, the building is quite old and not well-maintained. Upon entering, you are required to remove your shoes and wear flip-flops, which may be uncomfortable for some guests.
Moreover, there is no parking available, not even a designated spot to unload or load your suitcase, making it extremely inconvenient if you have luggage to manage.
- Warren (4/5): Disappointing - Location on the lake clean and big shared bathroom There are so many things
from no sign on the building,
nobody at reception,
breakfast was not provided as the the card in reception suggested and no instructions in the room,
no apology or compensation for missed meal,
the response from my complaint was rude, it was stated that an email was sent with breakfast instruction but I did not have internet,
can’t pull up with a car out the front even for a mini, parking is not close,
can’t access the lake without a walk
and as I later discovered the breakfast is at a cafe 400m down the road
- Anupam (6/5): Pleasant - -Good breakfast with lake view (around 400m from the hotel)
-Okay in this region for the price. -Internet not good in some rooms
-Parking not available in the hotel. Need to park in nearby parking spot.
- Irmantas (7/5): Good - Breakfast were fabulous at nice place Eden Beach Bar-Lounge with perfect view.
- Warren (3/5): Not a great choice if you want a smooth good experience - Close to the lake
The building is old and quaint and has charm
On my second morning I found breakfast, basic but nice after the walk but great atmosphere
We had dinner at the little bar across the road not connected to the hotel and it was great No signage so you can't find it, (see pic)
Staff not there in times advertised (see ouc)
Building is so noisy and others guests coming and going will wake you
Parking is a nightmare and no room to even stop nearby
Building was hot, no fan or ac, I had to open the hall window and leave my door open, the hall has bright led lights so when people come and go, lights come on, very uncomfortable
Facilities/garden is not usable
Brekky was not provided as per card in hotel, (see pic) I later found that it was 400m down the road, to their credit they did explain in an email but I did not have reception and during travel I travel not emails.
There no kindness or apology given when I made the attendant aware
I tried to cancel my second night but they rudly refused
- Lekha (1/5): Bad -
- Xavier (5/5): Passable -
- Salim (4/5): Disappointing -
- Natalie (8/5): A beautiful lakeside villa close to amenities and local attractions. - Villa Pochon is a beautiful heritage building with exceptional features like the central staircase and parquet floors. We had a stunning view to Lake Thun and the mountains through two large windows in our spacious and comfortable room. The hosts provided a good breakfast and were friendly, helpful and accommodating. The bus along the lake to Thun and Interlaken was free.
- Romano (5/5): Ok place to stay if you just need a place to sleep - Right by the lake, amazing view, good breakfast (5min walk from hotel) Thin walls, shared bathroom, beds are ok but not too comfortable, very expensive
- Vasileios (2/5): Below expectations, we won’t stay there again. - The breakfast was located in another place. 5 minutes walk from the accommodation. However it was basic, the coffee was good and the staff was friendly. The property didn't match our expectations – it's not the villa-style bed and breakfast we anticipated. Sharing a bathroom with eight other guests wasn't clear from the description. The interior felt untidy, with a noticeable old wood smell. The atmosphere lacked the villa ambiance we had in mind, and the lack of entrance lighting was inconvenient. In addition, we did not see a single staff in the accommodation, phone number was not working and the front door could not be locked (there g giving an unsafe feeling). Room was not cleaned during our 3-nights stay, and parking wasn't convenient. While affordable, the property's value didn't meet our expectations. We've decided not to stay here again. We hope this feedback helps future guests and the management.
- Yehoshua (1/5): Creepy. - Stay away.
The property is an air B&B - an ancient villa from 1860 - Feels like staying with the Adams family. Very hard to find at night, no staff at the place at the evening, there is nobody to talk to. Guests are afraid, mostly trying to avoid meeting each other :)
Strange rules: No shoes in the house.
There is no shower and no toilet at the room.
In short - the place is creepy and if you don't have a car with you, the location is terrible. Creepy place.
- Yue (8/5): If you want a lake-view room, this place is perfect! - The view from the window is perfect!
- Tauira (5/5): Passable -
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Ounnabi (5/5): Passable -
- Abdullah (1/5): Bad - No reception
No private bathroom
No refrigerator
No parkings
No water for drinking
No shampoo
We waited 2 hours to get our key due to no workers was there
They yelled at us and threaten us to call police at check out time
- Daniel (9/5): Great service and comfortable - Very helpful service and comfortable accommodations. Good location Parking was a little difficult, but not bad
- Niels (8/5): Very good -
- Rahul (1/5): Bad - Location, view -Poor service
-Stringent house rules and their imposition, made us feel like some uncivilized folks and unwelcomed.
- super understaffed
-absolutely no access to kitchen, even for boiling water, take glasses, using fridge etc. nothing is provided from the staff beforehand.
-all things apart, we felt unwelcomed
- Velva (9/5): Superb - The staff was very friendly and they even provided me a gluten free breakfast. The room was clean and spacious. Also, the view was magnificent. I hadn’t noticed that the bathroom is shared, when booking the room.It is usually mentioned in the title.
- Dragos (1/5): Avoid at all costs !! - Nothing to like here. Photos have nothing to do with the reality. Hotel is super hard to find. No indicators, no plates, no signs. Also no sidewalk to carry your stuff. Looks like the villa from fhe Adams Family in reality.
This is a super old house, made mostly out of wood, so it cracks and makes noises whenever you move.
The floor in our room was making constant noises during the night. We barely slept both nights because of the sound. The light sensor on the hallway was also malfunctioning, opening and closing the light permanently all night long. Because the door is as old as the house there was light coming from under the door … super creepy. Just like a horror movie. Take that combined with the noises from the floor (like someone was walking in our room during the night …) we didn’t close an eye all night long. The place is either darn old or simply haunted by ghosts.
There were ants everywhere: in the room, in the bed, in the bathroom. Restroom was clean despite the fact it was shared with 4 other rooms.
Breakfast is a joke. Three (3) slices of cheese for 2 person … how are we supposed to split them equally? Is this for real?!
Pool is used to store firewood. Hasn’t seen water in the last 5 years by the looks of it.
I won’t return here even if it’s free.
- Zsuzsanna (5/5): Typical Switzerland: no value for money - The view was beautiful. There were ants in the room who climbed up on you in your sleep. We had to leave a day early. There was no parking and nopossibility to stop at the Villa to even unload. Their own parking is far away with your luggage. The staff was not nice, the price was very high for no value at all. Breakfast was just a few pieces of cheese and some yoghurt.
- Hamed (7/5): Excellent hotel in term of location and view. But not recommended for those who look for facilities. - We had our honeymoon in this old ans cozy villa. The staff were so friendly and helpfull. The location and view of lake we had from our room was spectacular and wonderful. The room was spacious. Access to bus and Gunten city bar and restaurant were so good. The area was quiet and beautiful. We were invited for two glass of champagne in a bar by hotel managemenet because of our honeymoon stay in this hotel. And we enjoyed it near the lake Thun. It was so nice of them. :) It was our mistake that we didnt notice the shared bathroom while booking this villa, at first it was a bit annoying but we managed to use it and though the toilets and bath were so clean. The room had so few facilities, i.e. there was no mirror or a trash bin inside room. The breakfast was also very simple and below our expectation.
- Timea (1/5): the luxurious weekend went sideways - it’s a 400years old building has so much potential but owner don’t invest in it. our bedroom shared a door with an other room and we heard everything happened in the room and event the light came true the door. There was one bathroom for five rooms. For breakfast, we received two slices of bread and five tiny slices of cheese. The beauty of the whole thing was they don’t have parking, although they wanted to charge us three days of parking for a 2-night stay, and they told us we couldn’t park in the public parking. The hotel has no outside sign to see on the road. It was challenging to find it. On their website, they call the property luxury Villa, but there was nothing luxurious about it.
- Anita (9/5): A memorable and atmospheric place to stay, something different from the usual anonymous hotel rooms. - The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was at a nearby cafe, not at the accommodation, but was well worth the 5 minute walk, especially the excellent coffee. The bed was very comfortable, and the shared bathroom very clean. The villa made up for the lack of usual 'hotel' facilities with its 1860s atmosphere - lovely to experience something so different. The view when I woke up (mountains capped with snow and tinged pink with the early sunlight) was breathtaking. And the possibility to leave our luggage there until the evening was much appreciated, enabling us to enjoy an extra day exploring the region. I missed having running water in the room, but I understand why, in a 'Denkmalgeschützt' building, this was not possible.
- Vadym (8/5): Hotel with a great view - Great view from the window to a lake, nice room with vintage furniture, and comfortable bed
- Sandeep (9/5): Superb -
- Katharina (7/5): Good - the view, comfy beds, big room shared bathroom, toilet not in the room, drive/go to the breakfast
- Naomi (10/5): Great place to stay - Great location. Friendly staff. Gave me a travel card for free and discounted things to do in the area. Breakfast was not open Saturday
- Sean (8/5): Super and if we are passing again we would stay there again. Excellent value for money. - Brilliant location, wonderful staff very friendly and knew about the local area. We liked the breakfast. The ambience for such an old building was super. There was nothing to dislike!!! 😀
- Alan (4/5): No thrills. Okay if you need a place to lay your head for the night. - Very clean rooms No signage for hotel. Inconveniently situated on bend of what can be a busy road. No parking facilities. All guest rooms served by only one bathroom and 2 WC;s. Breakfast extremely basic.
- Hanqing (3/5): Terrible experience. - breakfast is good There is no enough hot water. My friend had to shower with cold water. That is a terrible experience.
- Maxime (9/5): We will definetly come back again if in the area! - The location is fantastic! Gunten is a quiet little village, but has everything you need. Beach, mountain views and other attractions, restaurants and grocery stores. Connection is super convenient, many buses to Thun and Interlaken - buses are free with the guest card. Good simple breakfast with muesli, and excellent bread. As we had to start early it all got prepared and ready for us in the second morning, which was very helpful. We (2 adults and 4 kids) loved the familly room. There is free parking in Gunten also. Finding the House is easy once you've been there once, but first time can be a bit of a challenge. When coming from Thun. it is before the heart of the village, on the left, and you can't park immediatly at the property.
- Sab100 (10/5): Relaxing stay at Lake Thun - Atmospheric ancient villa, good facilities, great location, very friendly and helpful manager. Hard to find parking spot in the area
- Martyna (3/5): Poor - location very poor breakfast, shared toilet, no shampoo, only diluted soap, you have to take your shoes off in the Hause and use COMMON-SHARED crocs!! no hot water late in the evening
