Guest Reviews
- Elaine (7/5): Although it was a lovely home, we never felt particularly welcome. - Beautiful home. When we called with a question they answered promptly. We had the upstairs ourselves so were able to enjoy the seating area all evening. We never saw anyone during our stay. There was no welcome or anything. I wouldn’t be able to answer your staff question as we didn’t meet them. I would have liked a little more of a homemade breakfast. Store bought muffins etc didn’t seem right. We had to forage for our breakfast . We originally booked for three people in our room. Luckily one felt she preferred a separate room as the room I was given certainly wouldn’t have been comfortable for three. The one bed was a double and a single day bed added.
- Mary (10/5): The room was great. But the tv was hard to watch with the posters in the way - The location was great. The breakfast was ok Nothing. It was everything I needed
- Raymond (5/5): We are sorry but we have to say we would not stay there again - We liked the character house and the Bristow Family story. That's why chose it. We did not like the fact that the owner manages remotely. We never saw a staff member over 3 nights there.
We couldn't find instructions to watch TV as we hoped to catch a Blue Jays game. I phoned Jodie, the owner's cell phone, and she said they don't have cable because it is a historic building. She politely said we could watch a streaming channel movie or go to the pub up the street and possibly watch the game. This should have been disclosed to us in advance.
Breakfast was very basic. A dozen store bought muffins, &/or cinnamon buns, mini-Yoplait, orange juice, Kreiger coffee maker & condiments, and the usual boxed cereals. Adequate, but boring. Plus, you don't really know who has been handling everything before you. There should be an attendant there at mealtime & at arrival time. I'm sorry to say this but it sends a message that the owner is getting tired. Our room was adequate, but the bathroom door hinges squealed terribly. My wife & I kept waking each other up during nightly visits to the lavatory. (neglect?) (I'm sure the neighbours next door could hear it.)
Upon entry to the house there was a beautiful antique desk on the right-hand side. A lovely bowl (vase) displayed a small cut flower bouquet that was dried out and hanging out of the bowl. It was unchanged when we left 3 days later so I took a photo. A minor thing but shows neglect. There was one incident where a male voice yelled out "who has parked in the driveway". It startled us, and I came downstairs from our room to see what was happening. Two ladies had blocked the driveway to unload their car. The unknown male was not around when I got there. (just as well)! We stayed in 4 B&B's over our road trip vacation with similar price ranges. Owner prepared breakfasts at two, & a 3rd without breakfast, but we were advised in advance. Bristow was the only owner we didn't meet.

- Faber (10/5): - The location was perfect for our team as we were meeting for Board Meetings in Elmira. They all enjoyed the stay!
Thanks for the hospitality.
- Laks (10/5): Comfortable - Historic Nothing
- Dorothy (6/5): No host. Light Breakfast was available but no person. - Convenient
Off street parking
Close to town centre
- Hayley (6/5): Functional and good position. - It was quiet, despite being on a main road and had lots of character. The bathroom facilities were very dated and the bed made so much noise, just sitting on it. Breakfast was sparse and we didn’t have anywhere to sit and eat as the only table was full.
- Barrie (7/5): Good location, parking but some short comings on features - Edward room nice and quiet Ernst room had street truck traffic noise. Both rooms could have had pull down blinds, put up curtain in Edward.
Location of tv in Edward has post of bed in line of view to tv ( bad). Sound bar did not work on either control.
Both rooms had hard chairs, not suitable for sitting and reading. A dinning guide outline would have been helpful found in majority of B&B. Kerig coffee machine didn’t function well for any of quests. Had to repetitively reset breaker and play with controls.
Bed was oud. Geen AC aanwezig.
Deur was van binnenuit niet op slot te doen. Geen goede prijs/kwaliteit
- Steve (8/5): -
- ASHISH (9/5): Charming and well cared for. - The character and charm to the heritage building are well preserved. We enjoyed the spacious and comfortable room we stayed at. The host was proactive and enquired at regular intervals for anything that might be needed. Given the heritage status of the building, modern comforts and upgrades are understandably not possible to be me to this property. However, certain fixtures could be replaced to give a superior guest experience.
- Sherry (8/5): -
- Rima (9/5): -
- Michael (9/5): Lovely historic house with a comfortable stay. - Excellent location with easy parking behind the property. Very easy self check in which was perfectly communicated by the host. Lovely historic house to stay in, quiet location even though on the main road, felt at home straight away.
Excellent breakfast with multiple choices available. Personal taste was that we felt that some of the room decor was unnecessary like the murals on the walls and the tree in the room that distracted from the beautiful historic features, the building itself was enough.
- mermaid (9/5): It was fabulous! Beautiful decor, antiques, location and recommendation to eat at Sports Bar!!! - The breakfast was great, it was a get your own but many choices. It was great to just saunter down when you were ready without a set time and help yourself to whatever you fancied. The wonderful informative books about the history of the home and surrounding areas were an added bonus. Some more medium sized spoons.
- Tasiopoulou (10/5): It was a gorgeous home and we had a great stay! - Super clean and comfortable!
- David (8/5): -
- STEPHEN (4/5): - Location was perfect Mattress was too hard...room was cold and you could hardly close the bedroom door due to it being too tight around the door frame.
We never met any staff there was no greeting from anyone nor goodbye. Garden out back requires tidying up big time.
- David (9/5): Really enjoyable. Nothing to dislike - Fascinating heritage property oozing with history. Loved our bedroom Nothing
- Jessica (8/5): -
- Digger (8/5): -
- Alex_drifting (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tom (9/5): An excellent, well-cared-for and welcoming spot for a short stay in the area. - The room was very comfortable, clean and private, though not especially large. More luggage would have had trouble finding space (we had one suitcase). The en-suite bathroom was very clean and a good size, with ample amenities provided. The breakfast was various and could accommodate many tastes, and access to the kitchenette was a plus, though we did not prepare any food. We came for the Elora FGEstival, which was about 15 minutes drive off -- quite convenient if you can't find anything in Elora, or don't want to pay the prices there! The building was aggressively air-conditioned, but it was very hot out and no doubt many patrons like that. We simply opened our balcony door to moderate the temperature until it was comfortable for us. There was really nothing to dislike.
- Andrea (8/5): Very good -
- Nicky (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the old world charm and artistic touches. Comfy bed and linens. The old relics were interesting and charming. Thanks for the history as well. Accessing our room was easy as instructions were excellent and easy to follow. Will return.
- Marcia (8/5): Dog friendly Bristows Inn: A blessing for pet lovers. - The room, the bed, the breakfast. It was odd not seeing any staff on arrival . But any question we sent them on email was quickly replied to. We loved how dog friendly the Inn is. We loved the garden. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay an would recommend Bristows No real dislikes
- Deb (9/5): Superb -
- Wendy (8/5): House itself was beautiful and a very convenient location. - Self-serve breakfast. Adequate choices. Keurig coffee machine. Would have been nice to have some milk or creamer and sugar available for the coffee pot in the room. The kitchenette was downstairs and had those supplies plus a kettle and microwave.
- Eliza (3/5): Worst airbnb stay ever - Don’t like, too old, lack of maintenance 1) On their website my room has a double bed and a single bed, but the single bed is a daybed, not a proper bed. Especially the mattress is so old it gives out squeaky noises even you just sit on it, not to mention toss and turn. Terrible sleep for both of us. Price became too pricey
2) overbooked and no pre-arrangement of parking instructions. Guests had to go back to move our cars and make more room
3) dining too small when a couple came down late, some of guests had to leave the breakfast table to give room, that’s not fun at all
- Maxted (10/5): Exceptional - Beautifully furnished and comfortable. I was pleased to stay on a second occasion.
- Maxted (10/5): Exceptional - Beautifully furnished and wonderfully comfortable
- Olena (8/5): Very good -
- Pauline (8/5): Best shower ever! - The location and the charm and history. We would have preferred a king size bed.
- Hudson (9/5): Superb - The place is very charming, clean, the communication is clear. The room during the night was hot for me l, and there no option to control it in the room.
- Rachelle (9/5): Fabulous stay and we will be back - The attention to detail is heartwarming, it’s a beautiful home. Excellent neighborhood very close to restaurants, stores. Easy and immediate communication with owner and staff. Will come back again! Window coverings were thin but a night mask will do the trick. Hated to leave!
- Stephen (7/5): Good - Friendly service and overall nice place The room was advertised and priced as a queen bed but it was only a double
- Remy (10/5): One night not enough - The staff where amazing to help in any situation and at anytime, reaching out to touch base with me and make sur all my needs where met That my trip was only a one night stay...I could have used 2 more nights just to fully enjoy the relaxing atmosphere
- Joseph (7/5): Good - Nicely decorated inn! Squeaky bed and limited breakfast.
- Rowan (10/5): Exceptional - We had a great stay at this adorable property. It felt both cozy and clean, and we had everything we needed. Thanks!
- Arun (10/5): Exceptional - The medieval ambience of the place. Comfy and welcoming feeling inside the inn.
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional - Property was just as described and getting in was seamless. The house is beautiful and a cool historical landmark. Breakfast is simple but had everything we needed and a great way to begin the day. A lovely spot to stay in Elmira.
- Frank (8/5): Very good -
- Randy (10/5): My stay was very pleasant and relaxing - The room was beautiful, clean and cozy with a comfortable chair, a small fridge/freezer, a small electric fireplace, and a lovely view. There were many comfortable
sitting areas both on the main floor and upstairs. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, cutlery, various kinds of tea and coffee and a microwave.
- Bernie (8/5): Very good -
- Jennifer (5/5): Passable -
- Intini (6/5): Lack of prepared breakfast and host interaction is not typical of a n bed and breakfast experience. - Location and historical character of property was good. Numerous shared sitting areas , room was spacous. There is no interaction with the host, the breakfast is continental and of low quality. Cleaning is lacking in bathroom , vent very dusty in ceiling. No measuring cups to portion water for Oatmeal. Bed required step stool to access and was very squeaky.
- Melanie (7/5): Quaint but tired. - Quaint and easy to access The room was bordering on worn, pillows and mattress were not very comfortable, no closet or hooks to hang clothes. Also we didn’t even see or hear from the host during our stay at all.
- Beverley (7/5): Charming old home -
- Tasmin (7/5): Charming B&B - Charming house with lots of history in a cute town. We chatted with one of the owners, who was very friendly and helpful. The room was quite small. I knew it would be a continental breakfast, but it was quite basic and I was expecting better quality items.
- Sakthi (7/5): Good -
- Brian (8/5): Very good -
- Cindy (10/5): Perfect, clean, quaint property, with excellent hosts! - Friendly and kind proprietor. Place was really cute and clean! There was nothing that was wrong.
- Nahid (7/5): Good - Breakfast was ok, nothing especial. The bed was really uncomfortable. Very soft mattress, u could feel the mattress springs.
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Veronica (10/5): Exceptional - The town and house are absolutely charming We're quite tall and our bed was a little short for us
- Stephanie (7/5): Good - unfortunately not taxi service available unless exhorbitant fee
- Karen (10/5): Was so pleased to find this gem to stay in - Quaint, unique, comfortable, relaxing
- Dennis (1/5): Bad - We did not stay there When we got there it wasnt what was advertised
Dennis
- Jose (9/5): Superb - Historical house, perfect breakfast( eggs, bacon, fruit, bread muffins, yogurt juice go on) 6 km from St Jacob’s.
- Timothy (10/5): Wonderful and will definitely stay there again without doubt! - Breakfast prepared by Elizabeth is excellent! From the table setting to the food. Splendid 👏👏👏 Nil
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (6/5): Of two minds, nice house, chancy hospitality - Beautiful old home with interesting history. I loved the balcony in my room. Room was nice, if a bit small. I liked being in the small town of Elmira and hearing Mennonites going by with horse and carriage. The window opened, which I love. Walking distance to downtown through lovely historic neighbourhoods. Easy drive to St. Jacob's market and Kitchener-Waterloo. The greeting was a bit strange. Email said door is unlocked during the day but it wasn't. So I got out my phone to look at the email for the door code but before I could enter it, the door opened and I was grilled about the door code and my room code. The room description said it had a kitchenette but there was only a small fridge on the floor outside the bathroom with a coffee maker on top. There are no kitchen facilities so don't expect a cooked breakfast--there were hard boiled eggs, pastries, fresh fruit, juice, yogurt, granola. The first morning, I had to interrupt the staff member who was chatting with someone nearby to ask where I could find cutlery. There was yogurt and juice in the fridge but I didn't know until she told someone else. (The second morning was much better, the table was beautifully set, with china, plates, cutlery. And there was bacon.) The front rooms are very noisy with traffic during the day.
- Julia (8/5): Very good - Very cute Inn with lovely establishment, friendly staff and delicious breakfast.
- Cj (9/5): Superb - This was an older home with high ceilings, wide wood trim and lots of unusual furnishings, which has been converted into a B&B. Our room had two church-like windows and small balcony with chairs and a table. "Quaint" would be the best way to describe the decor, though the bathroom was modern. There were no hosts, but a phone call was answered right away when I could not find the code for the door. There was also lots of information, such as suggestions of places to eat in town/ on a table in the front hall. A nice sitting area was available outside all the rooms, and there was an ecclectic collection of older books which we would have liked to stay and read. The breakfast was excellent. The bed was smaller than I expected and could have been more comfortable. The front room faces onto the main street so it was a bit noisy, but the air conditioning was good and we didn't have to have the window open. You should note that the rooms are up a flight of stairs.
- Gozde (9/5): Great location, beautiful stay! - Location is great, easy check-in & check-out. The house is full of beautiful, small details, so was our room. Breakfast was delicious. Our mattress was very soft - which is a big discomfort for me, but it's something very personally.
- Mirko (9/5): Superb -
- Strathearn (9/5): Superb -
- Seafox (8/5): A pleasant place to stay in Elmira - A very clean, well presented property with lots of period features.
The light breakfast included in the tariff was excellent. The bed was a narrow double. While comfortable enough, a slightly larger bed would have been nice.
The room had a few too many furniture items and knick-nacks in it which made it feel a little cramped.
- Galina (9/5): Fantastic - and both Jodie and Elizabeth were wonderful! - The breakfast was amazing, with a great choice of cold options (but also fried bacon and boiled eggs) provided. It is served beautifully, and is overall amazing.
- Dyann (9/5): A relaxing visit in an inviting room. - The rooms were cozy and quiet. Nice tub for a relaxing soak. I liked being able to watch Netflix. Also wonderful air conditioning for the hot weather. The owner's son and worker on site were pleasant and welcoming.
- James (7/5): Good location with free parking! - For the price, a hot breakfast with homemade
goodies would be an improvement. Comfortable room and free parking. See above
- Williamson (8/5): Enjoyed the garden, very peaceful - Good breakfast.
Easy to find. Bed was a bit narrow for two people.
- Victoria (7/5): Very comfortable and staff was very lovely - Loved the old building Could use some updating… happy to hear they will be replacing some bedding
- Stuart (9/5): Superb -
- Hania (2/5): Beautiful B and B but unprofessional staff... Beware !! - Beautiful B and B, very comfortable and clean Very negligent unprofessional staff....Beware
- Gary (7/5): Good - We loved the house and the location.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed visiting the surrounding towns. In the lobby there was info for places to eat etc which was quite helpful.
Would recommend this place. We were disappointed we didn't get the room we were supposed to get. This put a bit of a damper on the trip. There was quite the confusion with our codes but it did get sorted out. The conclusion the host came up with would be fine except we won't be that way again.
Other than the incident, this is a lovely place.
- Henry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Terry (7/5): Overall it met our expectations for our brief stay - the location was walkable to our event
we had limited interaction with staff as we were not able to stay for breakfast bed was not comfortable, not able to block out light in the evening
- Rodney (10/5): Exceptional - Clean Beautiful home The mattress could be better
- Gaston (10/5): Beautiful location, loved all the rooms (livingroom, diningroom) decorated lovely. - Coffee was superb The bathroom wall beside the toilet needed to be cleaned.
- Chris (9/5): Loved the charm of the house - Good communication from owner and access as we were coming in late. Coded access to the house and the room. Quaint century (plus) home with period pieces and country charm and because of the timing the beginning of what I am sure is very popular Halloween display! Our breakfast was also self serve with lots of variety from fresh pastry, breads, fruit, cereals, coffee, tee, juice etc. Our room was also appropriately decorated with a four poster bed queen size bed, small fridge and 4 piece bathroom. There was a tv in the armoire with extra blankets and pillows.
We enjoyed reading and learning the history of the house and founding family in the common area.
Lots of parking behind the house and off a main road Sadly the tv was difficult to watch with the four poster bed post. I think it would be easy to make the bed post in question detachable with long dowel or a swivel arm for the TV .
FYI - There are a number of rooms for rent in this house but for us it wasn't busy.
FYI - Limited restaurants that were not chain fast food. We had diner at the restaurant at the golf course which is just minutes away. Elora is also not far away.
- Gomori (8/5): Very good -
- Quenneville (9/5): Superb -
- Anonymous (7/5): Good -
- Lisa (10/5): Lots of character with a spooky twist - I love how much character the place had. Our room was so beautiful and had a balcony. The Halloween decorations were amazing and so spooky. I was blown away. The owner was so sweet and did a great job.
- Anne (8/5): Very comfortable, with great people! Nice to have a traditional bed and breakfast, with interaction with other guests an - Beautiful heritage home. Very caring proprietor. Nice breakfast. Can be a bit noisy - we were in the main floor room, right off the dining area.
- Maryam (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly host, cute charming house with nice decoration
Our room was comfortable and tastefully decorated.
- Warren (7/5): Good -
- Angele (4/5): Good location but uncomfortable stay - Extremely uncomfortable bed. Decor was outdated and loud. Breakfast was terrible. Owners dogs bark which wakes you up and make for an uncomfortable breakfast. Very in uncomfortable bed. Owners dog bark early in morning snd during breakfast. Breakfast is granola from a box and stale muffins from grocery store container. I would expect a better presentation from this type of establishment.
- Kartiga (10/5): Exceptional - Very comfortable stay at the beautiful and cozy Bristow's Inn!
- Nancy (8/5): Very good - Charming welcoming 19th century Ihistorical Inn.
Lots of attention to detail and comfort for quests Older building so sounds carry
