Guest Reviews
- Annabelle (10/5): Home away from home 🤍 - It was very homely, lovely spacious room and bathroom. If you forgot any toiletries they had spares in the room for you. We had a fantastic breakfast! All homemade and so delicious! They were so accommodating as we left early and made us breakfast before we went. Nothing
- Vikki (9/5): A lovely, comfortable stay in a fantastic location with welcoming hosts - We had a lovely stay. The location was fantastic, making it easy to get around and enjoy the area. The room was spotless, comfortable, and nicely decorated, creating a really relaxing place to unwind after a day of sightseeing—especially with the lovely large bath to relax in.
The hosts were incredibly welcoming and went out of their way to make our stay feel special. The only downside was that the kitchen wasn’t available for use as we had expected when booking, which was a little disappointing.
- Sally (10/5): A beautiful artistic home in the heart of Naples that truly feels like home - Staying at Lo Specchio de Papiri was truly a special experience. The location is unbeatable—right in Naples’ historic center on Via Santa Chiara, making it the perfect base to explore the city.
The apartment is set within a beautiful historic building, where you can still admire original stonework and architectural details that reflect Naples’ rich past. What makes it even more unique is the contrast between the exterior and interior: while the building preserves its history, the inside is modern, thoughtfully designed, and enriched with beautiful touches of Neapolitan art. Knowing that the owner is an artist makes it even more meaningful, as you get to live among her own creations.
One of the highlights of my stay was the breakfast service—freshly prepared every morning, with so much care and warmth by mamma Emilia. It added such a personal and comforting touch to each day. Marianna, mamma Emilia, and papà Alfonso went above and beyond as hosts, always available, kind, and even ready to help with tips or guidance for exploring the city.
What stood out the most is how at home I felt. After spending a couple of days visiting Pompeii, returning to the apartment genuinely felt like coming back home—something rare and very special when traveling.
I cannot express enough gratitude to Marianna, mamma Emilia, and papà Alfonso for their warmth and hospitality. I wholeheartedly recommend Lo Specchio de Papiri to anyone visiting Naples—it’s more than a stay, it’s an experience. The only thing to keep in mind is that, being in the historic center, you will hear some street noise. But honestly, it’s part of Naples’ vibrant, lively charm and adds to the authenticity of the experience.
- Fabrizio (9/5): La signora Marianna veramente fantastica e disponibilissima - Posizione perfetta per le principali visite
Prenotate con largo anticipo la visita al Cristo Velato
Fate anche la Napoli sottoterra
- Dariusz (10/5): A charming townhouse in the heart of Naples. - Wonderful, incredibly kind hosts. They took care of us like their own children. Very close to the historic center of Naples. Shops, restaurants, bars, and monuments are nearby. Marianna can organize everything, and Emilia and Alfonso offer private city tours at an attractive price. Typical Neapolitan breakfasts are very sweet, but you can request a different menu.
- Nikos (9/5): -
- Rodriguez (9/5): Amazing will comeback - Napolitan breakfast provided for 7 euros per person.
Very attentive and quiet.
Beautiful artwork made by owner. Main bathroom doesn’t have a shower but instead a handheld with an amazing water pressure
- Rashid (10/5): - Our host made us feel very welcome, it was just like being at home, she cared and advised us places to visit and eat. the location is very well situated, just in the heart of the historical city, Thanks Marianna for making our stay so enjoyable.
- Lorna (10/5): Exceptional - The property is situated in a small square in the city centre. The apartment was very lovely, clean and spacious. The owners were amazing and also offered us to take us around for a very reasonable fee. We can say that after 6 nights they became like family to us and we felt totally at home. We will go back to Naples and definitely stay in this accommodation. A big thank you goes to Marianna and her lovely parents for making our holiday a memorable one. ❤️
- Mia (8/5): The owners take great care to ensure that you will enjoy your stay in Naples. They are the kindest, most loving people! - The apartment is very clean and it is decorated with very wonderful and amazing art. It is centrally located to everything that is walking distance. The owners are such lovely, warm people. I felt like I was staying with my own family.❤️🇮🇹
The owners offer an amazing tour of Naples, which is spectacular! The tour was one of the highlights of my trip! We loved it! Spectacular views of the city that you wouldn’t ordinarily see. I highly recommend it.
They also offer breakfast in the morning, which consists of lovely pastries, fruit, yogurt, and coffee. They were so kind as to accommodate our request for a protein breakfast on the second day. I thought I would be alone with my husband, but there was another woman staying there with her daughter, so it didn’t feel as private as I wanted. If you are trying to maintain Covid consciousness, this places you at risk from unknown persons cohabitating with you. I also just had LS fusion surgery 6 months ago and the bed was extremely uncomfortable for me. I didn’t sleep well, because my back hurt really bad and it was very noisy outside.
- Carly (6/5): Beautiful apartment in great location but share apartment with owners - The location was incredible! It was near fun bars and a close walk to many of the main parts of the city. The apartment also lived up to the pictures and was gorgeous, clean, and comfortable. The owners were very kind and welcoming. We were very surpried to be sharing the flat with the owners. When we came back at night or left in the morning, they were often watching TV or hanging out in the living room. Although they never said we couldn't use the space, when they were in them, for example watching TV with the lights off, it felt like we couldn't use those common spaces. Most of the pictures are of these shared rooms, so it felt like we partially paid for these spaces but then couldn't use them.
Check-out time is at 10:00am, which is already earlier than most places. On the morning of check-out, we were asked to leave even earlier so they could have more time to turn over the room. They were kind but this is an unprofessional request.
Lastly, the shower attachment isn't long enough to stand in the shower. So just be aware of that.
Overall, we had a great stay. The owners are very kind and if you're looking for a spot to meet locals and be a stones-throw away from great restaurants, you'll love this place. If you are looking for a more standard experience where it's more accessible to use the common spaces, then I would look elsewhere.
- Steve (9/5): Superb -
- Tristan (9/5): Exceptional, great host, great location, great apartment and special times. - Amazing host!! Very helpful especially with restaurant recommendations. We were extremely fortunate to meet the host’s parents who kindly took us on a private tour around Napoli, we also enjoyed their homemade Limoncello and conversation via Google Translate, a very special experience and something we’ll cherish.
Location was perfect, short walk to great restaurants and transportation. Not really a dislike but there was no shower but you just adapt, and the bed was a little firm for my wife.
- Virginia (10/5): A wonderful, warm welcome from excellent hosts. - Excellent location . Very comfortable accommodation. Excellent hosts.
- Iva (10/5): Fantastic stay for a perfect vacation! - The B$B is located very conveniently- just within 15 min walking distance to every major sightseeing point. Tons of shops, bars, restaurants around.
At the check in Marianna was waiting for us with her son so that they could welcome us to their home. Marianna speaks a little bit if English, but for us it was fine since we speak a little Italian :) She gave us lots of tips where to go, what to see and what to eat - just priceless!
The apartment is beautifully decorated and gives a cosy feeling immediately after going in. It is a huge place, quite unexpected for us - but we loved it!!! We could use everything apart from the kitchen- which was fine since we had no intention to cook. We used the fridge for some fruits, which we could enjoy after a long day walking around beautiful Naples.
We also had breakfast in the B&B , which was prepared by the owners. We opted out for a continental breakfast and were not disappointed! Delicious local products! We absolutely enjoyed it to the fullest!
There is a bit of noise from downstairs, but nothing too much. It was totally fine for us. Nothing, everything was just perfect!
- Anne (10/5): Our stay was wondeful! Our room and the whole house was beautiful. The location was perfect. I would definitely - The property was awesome - great location, cool historic building and our host was wonderful! We didn’t know the lift needed coins to operate!
- Francesco (9/5): Superb -
- Haran (9/5): Superb -
- Anna (10/5): Excellent location, customer centric approach by the hosts - Location and the attitude of the hosts, great people Nothing
- Sara33f (3/5): Wonderfull room, but a very stressfull stay - Great location in the center, clean room and nice bathroom. Beautifull view from the room, on a little square. But we would not like to stay here again, because if was full of restrictions and we were not alowed to use anything else that is visible on the pictures, only and strictly our room (and it's not alowed to eat in the room).
The beautifull balcony unfortunately doesn't have depth, one can just step out, but not use it. But since also eating in the room is not alowed, no need to even phantasise about drinking a glass of wine or having a healthy breakfast with a wonderfull balcony view. We booked this stay for our vacation, we wanted to relax and enjoy the city and this great central location, while relaxing from all year of work. But our host was not up for that. It was more important to her to have her day routine and she couldn't let us be.
We weren't alowed to sleep until when we wanted to (in the room we payed for, on our vacation!) because the host would come agressively knocking repetetively at 10, while we were in the room.
After us getting very very stressed out by the host, and trying to explain (the host doesn't speak english) that we want to be able to relax on our vacation, she finaly left us to be in peace for the last three days out of a full week.
But it was very stressfull and it made our vacation unrelaxed.
Also breakfast that is said to be included in the price, contained only sweets and made only with white flower. So if you eat dairy or/and gluten-free, you can't count on breakfast. It's stated that the stay offers fruit (so we were counting on a fruit bowl) but it was just a tiny bit of not very fresh fruit, and not even every day.
We were not alowed to use the beautiful big kitchen, nor the livingroom of this big apartment. We could only sit and eat by the dining table, but just while the host was present. And it was strictly strictly forbiden to eat anything our room. After a long conversation, we were alowed to have a tiny bag of fruit in the fridge, but the host openly showed that that's not making her happy, and acted as if she is giving us an exclusive gift with us opening the fridge full 4 times throughout an entire week of stay.
Everything was so full of restrictions and not alowed. All in all a very stressfull stay.
And the whole family of the hosts doesn't speak english at all, which is very unconvenient, especially since they are offering city tours of their own and therefore want to comunicate a lot about it.
- Sharan (9/5): Beautiful room in amazing building. Lovely hosts. - We were served Italian breakfast which was good, though neither of us are too keen on sweet breakfast. The hosts did not speak English and we have no Italian but we muddled through with the help of Google translate. They were very helpful. The location is amazing, near to shops and resteraunts. Highly recommend. Would like to have had more access to coffee
- Georgianacos (9/5): Great location! - Very clean rooms, beautifully decorated. Breakfast was clasic italian (pastries and coffee), the host was very nice! I liked that is was basically a huge apartment with only 2 rooms for guests and huge salons, which I think it's pretty great. Very close to the historical city, spanish quarter, metro station and port It was a little bit loud from the piazza below during the night (especially during the nights which had football games of the local team). However once you get used to that, it's great. Don't let the look of the exterior building scare you.
- Susan (9/5): Superb -
