Guest Reviews
- Jenny (9/5): - The Postmaster General Suite was very comfortable & spacious. Communication was very good. Some wildlife noises on the cottage roof a couple of nights, possibly Tassie Devils or possums.
- Julie (9/5): An interesting and comfortable place to stay. - Out of town so you get peace and quiet. Close to Stanley for food or supplies. Lovely dark sky. Close to Highfields Estate which is nice to visit. And got to see Little Blue Penguins just down the road from us. Be careful driving at night. WIFI was on and off. I didn’t have phone signal but my husband did with Telstra.
- F (7/5): - Modern, comfortable, and quiet accomodation. Some concerns about drinking water. Tap water has strong after-taste. Probably good idea to test for bacterial contamination.
- Kellie- Anne (10/5): Just what the doctor ordered, peace and quite. - It was a great place, it was clean and it even had a bath. There was nothing I didnt like
- Jane (10/5): -
- claire (4/5): Not at all what we expected for the price - Location had poor access Couldn't reach the toaster to make use of it
Squashy little single room
Kangaroo skins on sofa upsetting
- Joanne (10/5): A lovely stay away yet close enough to town to enjoy all that Stanley offers. Great views of the Nut . - A large room with a big comfy bed , all essentials for breakfast & a bbq outside if you wanted. Bathroom also was big with a bath & shower. Again all you needed was there. Location was out of town but the drive into town let us see lots of the fairy penguins coming ashore for the night. Nil
- Nicola (10/5): Excellent stay - We like the views and rural setting. Rooms large and bed was comfortable It was all good
- michael (10/5): Beautiful location, quiet, excellent value. - Beautiful , remote location. The suite was exceptional - a great bed and small things like plunger coffee were much appreciated. N/A
- Ruth (8/5): - Loved how quiet it was. At first we were the only ones there. Then 2 other couples arrived for the other units which was a bit weird. Set up great for a party. We loved it though beautiful setting .
- Rosalea (4/5): Nice, but disappointing that we didn’t get the room we booked and paid extra for. - The location was beautiful We booked The Postmaster Suite on Booking.com but didn’t get the Postmasters Suite. We were put in the Cable King Room. Very disappointing.
The owner provided a drinks and pizza voucher as a measure of goodwill, which was nice but we were nevertheless disappointed that we didn’t get what we paid for.
The Cable King room was comfortable with a King Sized bed but we did not get a full kitchen that was provided in the PostMaster Suite.
- Michelle (5/5): The Postmasters Suite - It was large. Pretty sure it was the owners own premises which they let out from time The kitchen and bathroom were a great size and great amenities. Ok. I think there was a flood from the washing machine to the floor
It smelt musty and the floor was wet in the kitchen area when we arrived. In the living area when sitting down I tried to use the throw to keep warm whilst watching tv. Unfortunately they both smelt and both need to be washed and hung out to dry in the wind/sunshine to refresh. The front of the property can do with a bit of love rather than just a mow of the lawn. The entrance to The Postmaster Suite is dangerous to say the least. It is not a flat surface and as I have had a hip replacement at 50 in this area i nearly fell several times. Located is approx 4km out of Stanley. I appreciate the heritage feel to the property but there are certain things that can be addressed easily and some not so easy.

- Francesca (9/5): -
- Hamza Ghory (8/5): -
- Jennifer (7/5): - Bed was big and comfy, view spectacular
- Karen (8/5): I enjoyed it. Fun to stay in a historic place. Needs better cleaning. - Interesting historic place. Great kitchen and bathrooms Kitchen and bathrooms were very clean but the other areas could use a better cleaning. Quite dusty and really dirty windows.
- Steven (8/5): -
- Zoe (10/5): - Everything! Comfortable and tastefully decorated. The bed was large (I think a king) good pillows, the bathroom had bath-sheets and a floor mat. The kitchen was well equipped. The location was quiet and serene. The free washer/dryer was a very welcome bonus. It was all good.
- Pike (10/5): Fantastic spacious and comfortable accommodation convenient for exploring The Nut and the Tarkine area. - This very spacious suite provided everything needed for a more than comfortable stay! Lovely, huge bed and a spa bath as well as a great sitting area! We saw the blood moon and a stunning Milky Way one night, as it was isolated at the top of the hill. A wonderful place to stay!
- Mary-Ann (10/5): Lovely quiet location - Lovely quiet location, well appointed rooms. Comfortable bed. Friendly cows!!
- Daniel (8/5): If you enjoy the country and the space and quiet, that’s for you. Just have to put up with the dusty road. - The location is superb, views to the ocean with young cows in front. The bed was comfortable too and very quiet. We stayed there 2 years ago and it is much cleaner now. You can watch the penguin returning to their burrows at night just down the road.
The food at the local pub is excellent too. The windows are still very dirty!
- Neil (7/5): Peaceful location with great views, but no other facilities - The property is in a spectacular location but is a significant distance from the facilities of the town. Our room was roomy and well appointed and had spectacular views of the surrounding area. We didn’t see any staff and while there was an effective laundry room, there were no other facilities on site. It appears that a restaurant that once was there is now well and truly closed.
- Rodger (9/5): Away from town but only a short scenic drive to Stanley. - Spaciousness and facilities Windows needed cleaning and exterior painting.
- Leanne (1/5): Falsely advertised, filthy and smelly. We should have been given a refund for last night AT LEAST. - Nothing - ruined our stay in Stanley. Awful. Our suite was fly infested, smelt of damp and mould, had rat bait and rodent faeces in a kitchen cupboard, Screens, windows and out door area filthy, it is advertised as beachfront (no where near the beach) with terrace and garden views of Bass Strait. No terrace, no garden and no view. Only small glimpse of water was from our bathroom window over a septic tank. Out door furniture covered in dirt and bird droppings. Washer/Dryer in room turned out to be washer only, so we were stuck with wet load of clothes late at night. We sat in the bedroom when we were there as it was the only room that did not smell. Booked three nights, stayed two, had to leave early as second night we were unable to sleep due to rats/possum? in the ceiling and wall cavities. Reported to cleaning staff on the morning we left, we also messaged manager who gave us the brush off.
- Denise (10/5): Excellent - PMG suite so spacious and comfortable, the surroundings were great Nothing
- Sharon (6/5): Disappointed mostly with the cleanliness! - View, location, room size, not noisy. Washing machine was mouldy & dirty & laundry very dirty, had to clean washing machine before use. Our patio had a beer bottle beside the BBQ full of cigarette butts & we had to clean the BBQ before use. Bathroom floor was dirty & floor & bath had hair in it. Our kitchen dish drain mat was placed under sink on top of the cutlery soaking wet & smelt of mould. The cutlery tray had food remains in it. Apart from those issues it was a lovely, quiet place & the view from the patio was nice. Loved the Bumblebees on the flowers out back in the mornings.
- Barry (7/5): -
- Edward (10/5): A wonder place to retreat to. - Excellent condition. Very quiet and serene location. Spacious and clean. Very comfortable.
- Cheryl (7/5): It was a very peaceful spot out of town and not too far from Highfield historic homestead. Stanley is a gorgeous town an - We stayed in the Exchange Room. We loved the location, the room was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. One night we cooked a bbq on the Webber and watched the sunset while enjoying some Tassie wine. There are sliding doors from the main room and outdoor chairs where you can sit and enjoy the view or read a book. If I was asked to provide a suggestion on what could be improved it would be the garden. I appreciate the weather conditions are tough in this location, but there are empty garden beds which could look great if some hardy plants were added.
- Aaron (10/5): -
- Meritt (8/5): We really loved the serenity - Beautiful and peaceful Only microwave to cook food. Was expecting a cooktop.
- RG (9/5): A slice of hidden heaven in Stanley - We have stayed here before but we're lucky enough to receive the Postman's suite this time round, it is divine. So spacious and the bathroom felt like utter luxury. So lovely to have a spa at night. Well equipped kitchen and comfy bed. Previously, there was a lovely breakfast included, which gave our stay a more personal feel, chatting to the owner and eating lovely food. Also, there are no curtains in the loungeroom across the door, and we felt that sheer curtains didn't offer a lot of privacy. TV wouldn't allow us to stream.
- steve (10/5): - We had the PMG apartment which was huge. Excellent facilities including a spa bath and double shower. Very nicely set up in a quiet location not far from town. N/a
- Caroline (8/5): Beautiful and peaceful - Lovely sunset. Great spacious well equipped room. Beautifully furnished. Overlooking a field. Quiet. 7 minutes drive down the hill to town. Not walking distance. Loved the quirky wine bar and Nut walk. Saw some penguins which was a treat. Be careful of the electric fence outside your room!!
- Igor (10/5): -
- Tamra (10/5): One of a kind accommodations set on green hilltops with a great history, amazing views and serene experience. - Fabulous room with private outdoor area, bbq and views to sea and cattle grazing nearby. Great to learn about history of building and cable infrastructure too. Easy walk to beach/water for daytime and evening exploration too. The tide movements are incredible. Beautiful out of town escape and place to enjoy another part of what Stanley offers. No complaints.
- Rosemary (8/5): Would recommend this property for those looking for a place to unwind while still having access to Stanley (a very short - Beautiful, peaceful location.
Great country outlook A little outside maintenance needed
- Frieder (10/5): Perfect place to relax - Great out of the way location. Brilliant sunsets. Comfy, large suite with plenty of sitting locations and a nice patio to enjoy the sunsets Can't think of anything
- Justin (9/5): -
- Anita (1/5): Unloved - Owners agreed to full refund In our opinion the property looked very unkept outside, bird droppings everywhere in the outdoor communal areas which were unuseable. . Birds nesting in the ceiling of our room. Owners live interstate and seemed unaware of the state the property was in. We arrived on dusk but moved out first thing the next morning rather than complete our planned 3 ngt stay. The owners were available on the phone immediately and agreed to a full refund. 7 weeks later the refund hasn't come through despite chasing both the owners and booking.com.
- Paul (10/5): My youngest, 13, said can we stay here for longer next time? - Cable station accommodation was absolutely amazing. We were in the PMG suite. We actually thought the hosts had given us the wrong room it was so breathtaking.
Thanks for an amazing stay. N/A
- Jetson (9/5): - Very clean and tidy. No garden.
- Nalinda (10/5): -
- Rochelle (10/5): Exceptional venue in a breathtaking location. - The amenities were fantastic and so thoughtfully done. I particularly loved the little signs that helped with how to work various things rather than just leaving guests to figure it out themselves. Really well done. N/A
- Alison (8/5): Great location and amazing history. - Great location and amazing history
Having washing facilities was really good
Little touches of luxury like two shower heads and spa bath.
- Mark (10/5): - Liked the location, the great fire, the wind and rain. Shops and dining only a short drive. Timber work needs attention around windows and outside
- Frischknecht (8/5): Sehr gute Lage für Ausflüge und sehr ruhig gelegen zur Erholung -
- Anthony (10/5): -
- Katherine (10/5): A cosy place to relax and indulge yourself! - Tucked just far enough away from town to be truly peaceful with adorable penguins, bunnies, and cows for neighbours. Spacious rooms, cosy fireplace in comfy lounge room, bathroom with heated floor and spa! Even an undercover outdoor area to unwind and view a glorious sunset!
- donna (8/5): - Very well equipped for self-contained. The free laundry was very helpful. Best view of the penguins. Gorgeous location/ views Took a while to get it warmed up.
- Cornelis (9/5): Loved the place - Unique location Nothing
- John (8/5): Enjoyed the overall stay, but please repair outside areas. - no breakfast or provisions, did not meet owners or staff
uneven surfaces on external flooring, almost hazardous, requires attention.
- Vanessa (8/5): Beautiful outlook. Very clean and comfortable place to stay. Would recommend and stay again. - Lovely outlook over grassy green paddocks and beach in North West Tasmania. Our room was very clean, beds comfy and room well appointed with all the things we needed for a comfortable stay. Communication with our host Charlotte was excellent and very accommodating for our family.
We would recommend and stay again. Location best suited to those with a car. There wasn't anything not to like.
- Judy (8/5): - PMG suite was super big with spa bath On a windy night it sounds like the house would be blown away.
- Pei Fen (10/5): - Love the heritage, serenity and animals all around.
- jennifer (8/5): -
- Carmel (7/5): Great potential but greater attention to detail needed - Very large rooms especially the bathroom. Peaceful location. Dirty BBQ that prevented use. Problem with electricity which was a bit disconcerting.
- Jill (10/5): -
- Leslie (10/5): Loved every minute. Remote enough to feel like you are the last people on Earth, but only a short drive into town (Stanl - Very roomy and comfortable. Excellent facilities. Nothing. It was all great.
- Jutta (9/5): -
- Bruce (9/5): -
- Janette (3/5): Poor -
- David (8/5): Lovely location, beautiful touches and decor offset by some impracticality and poor maintenance - Wonderful location, large room, comfortable bed, the robes, the views, the light, the cattle on the adjoining property, the black swans on the nearest bay, the fairy penguins searching for a nest beside the local road, the(txt) and phone communications with the owner / manager, the relative remoteness (it's a 10 minute drive into Stanley), the thoughtful "nice" touches, the quality of the woodwork in the room. It's a "fancy" bathroom but the shower door didn't shut properly and water drains out of the shower - not into it. There is carpet in the kitchenette (which is not especially practical), the dining table wobbled and was unstable and the dining chairs looked great but were unnecessarily heavy. It was easy to bump my head on the wall mounted TV. The main room light didn't work - a blown bulb - and could not be replaced over the Easter weekend. It was quiet the first night (one other car) but noisey over the Easter weekend when there were more guests and the guest laundry was in heavy use (there is no lock on the laundry so perhaps it was being used by a local farm worker!) Lovely location but not as functional as it could be.
- Geoff (8/5): Very good -
- Andy (9/5): Great location to relax away from it all without being too far away from places to see. - We were upgraded to the Technician's Cottage (thank you again Charlotte) which was superb as it was self-contained allowing us to cook and relax throughout the week. With a well appointed bathroom, a very comfy bed and a cosy fire the location is a bit out of town in splendid isolation. Although clean enough, needs a little more attention to detail with a meal left in the oven (surprise) and the outside rubbish and recycling bins full.
- Esther (9/5): Superb - This was such a wonderful peaceful location. The attention to detail was amazing. I would have given the place a ten but the curtains in the main bedroom were a bit fusty. Otherwise it was the perfect place to unwind.
- Warwick (10/5): Exceptional - The 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom cottage was spotlessly clean and very well appointed. The accommodation is a short drive out of town and is quiet with a lovely ocean view. The history of the building is interesting. Communication with the host was seamless with quick responses and great instructions to facilitate an easy check in.
- Kate (7/5): Good -
- Russell (6/5): Quiet, relaxing stay. - The location was great. It was a little out of the way (about 5 minutes by car into Stanley), but quiet. The sunsets were fabulous. The room could have been cleaner, and the windows with the fabulous view could have been cleaned.
- Elias (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jan (9/5): Very pleasant stay and would recommend it highly. - The accommodation was very nice. Quality linen, comfortable bed, and lovely quiet outlook across the ocean. Beautiful sunset views. There seemed to be a problem with the TV reception, though it didn’t really bother us.
- Julia (9/5): Fabulous - Charlotte is a kind and generous host, readily available to answer any queries or solve minor problems. We had a great stay at the Cable Station and loved the rugged location!
- Sharon (10/5): Exceptional - The view from the back, the spacious rooms. It was so peaceful.
- Graham (10/5): Exceptional - Peace and quiet
So spacious and loved the bathroom... Having to leave
- Wydner (4/5): What a disaster! - Location The place was filthy and dusty!
Really disgusting. It needs a good cleaning, including windows. Also needs to be refurbished ( worn in bed ) and repairing - there is a leaking shower and a wobbly toilet bowl .
Also TV doesn't work and water is not suitable for drinking, only for flushing the toilet. Not to mention a possum in the roof space above the kitchen.
- Claudette (10/5): Very quiet and serene location. - The accommodations were very spacious. Very well equipped and it had all the amenities one could possibly ask for.
- Nick (7/5): Brilliant property, it promises so much, but there are, unfortunately, some “misses” ! - Impressive building.
Remote (relatively) location.
Very comfortable bed.
Bathroom ( needs heating, however ).
Sunset. Poorly designed, very basic kitchenette.
Heating option.
2 of 3 mornings, other guests using the laundry, by 8:00am. The message is lost in the compendium, needs to be a large, definitive, sign in the laundry.
- David (8/5): Very enjoyable and nice and quiet -
- Neil (7/5): Good -
- Kellie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Liz (10/5): Exceptional - Well equipped, very comfortable bed, peaceful setting. Excellent communication with owners. Not good TV reception, but most likely due to the area and wind. Didn't matter as we were busy.
- Jenny (9/5): Superb -
- Grahame (8/5): Very good -
- Lyn (9/5): Superb -
- Mary (7/5): Good - Everything was lovely Therecisca need for a fan or air-conditioning
- Helen (8/5): Very good -
- Alison (8/5): Unique property, clean and comfortable. - Unique property, good location only a short drive out of Stanley. N/A
- Susan (9/5): Splendid isolation - The exceptional isolation of the location in the middle of the pastures, under the wide open skies. The view of the ocean when driving up to the station. The cooking options were rather limited in terms of work surfaces and appliances but the bbq worked well
- Katrinac (8/5): Very good - Property was spacious and well equipped. Quiet location only 5 minutes to town. Appreciated the red filtered torch for viewing little penguins. Suggest guests take bottled water for drinking. The rainwater while safe had a strange taste.
- Vicky (8/5): We loved our stay here! Peaceful beautiful space & responsive to questions - We were afraid the toilet sewerage was going to overflow!
- Amy (8/5): Very good - Amazing to stay in a historic place of interest, beautiful surrounds, expansive grazing fields and coastal views. For a wild and windy part of Tasmania once inside you were cosy and warm. Bathrooms were modern, heated flooring a treat and a lot of room in the Technicians Cottage for family or two couples. Quality sheets and towels, generous coffee/tea, dishwasher, view from the kitchen sink amazing! Mattress in main bedroom was like a hammock. Floors had hairs and a lot of mouse poop (I understand it is an old house amongst fields but it could of been removed -once I cleaned it all up it did not appear that the mice returned) also old opened foods from previous guests in drawers that was mouldy as. Felt a little musty and tired.
- James (8/5): Very good -
- Terry (9/5): Superb - Dirty windows
- Ian (10/5): Was a fun place to stay in Stanley! - Great location not far from the shops! Convenience of laundry! We enjoyed staying there! N/a
- Will (8/5): Very good - space

bed
- Kevin (9/5): Superb - Very remote. Great features. Plenty of room. Great to have real coffee. Internet weak. TV was unwatchable most of the time due to poor signal.
- Josh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sally (8/5): Very good - Great location, quiet, only a short drive to town. Nothing
- Jenny (10/5): Easy check in. Quiet location. Very comfortable. - The room was large. King size bed was great.
Very quiet location. Very comfortable.
