I liked the way the tomatoes were baked on the vine. The mushrooms were perfect. That sausages and or black pudding were not an option (I did know that before we arrived). I would have preferred to toast my own bread when ready.

The host was friendly and welcoming, which made me feel right at home. The location was also great — close to trains and buses, making it easy to get around.

Our hosts, Jane and Keith were very nice and helpful. We wish we had had more time to talk and converse with them. We would love to stay here again during our next London trip.

• Katharine (10/5): A warm, friendly welcome behind the Lilac Door - Firstly, the owner Jane messaged us before we arrived, so we knew how to get in, in case she wasn't at home. The house is in a lovely street, very close to cafés, pubs, and shops. Our room was impeccably clean, and stocked with thoughtful touches, like high quality teas, biscuits, and bathrobes. The bed was comfy, and the room was spacious too. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast prepared just for us, by Jane, before we left, which was extra, but excellent value. We also had a very interesting conversation with Jane and her husband. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Lilac Door if you're in the Dulwich Area. Couldn't fault our stay here.

• Karen (10/5): Home from home - Perfectly placed for our visit to Dulwich Picture Gallery, only a pleasant 10 minute walk. The room was impeccable, our hosts had thought of everything a visitor would need. We decided to add on breakfast to our stay to make our morning easy, the choice was broad and the cooked breakfast delicious. I would highly recommend and enjoy staying again.

And there were some lovely Ferrero Rochers waiting on the bed! Full blinds were also great. Despite all the lovely shower gels, face soaps, grooming kits and such - I couldn't actually find the hand soap!

The location is just 15 min away from the Victoria Station and yet you dont' feel like you're in the city. Furthermore, Jane has been a wonderful host, providing the visitor an oasis of calm after a busy day in London, I highly recommand this place and thank you Jane for the fantastic welcome you gave me !

• Davina (10/5): A lovely B and B in a great location - This is a very good quality B and B ( available as room only if preferred) in the lovely area of Dulwich with restaurants, cafes, entertainment and a park also nearby in Herne Hill and Brixton. Very close to central London. A warm welcome from lovely lady, Jane with tea, coffee, biscuits and water in the room. The spacious loft bedroom and shower room were modern, well- equipped and very comfortable. A super stay , would stay again !

• Christine (10/5): Our visit didn’t workout as well as we expected but the stay at the Lilac Door was excellent . - If you are searching a B & B that is fitted out with quality and style, spotlessly clean, value breakfast, and managed by an efficient and charming host, look no further. This is it. If your business is in Dulwich, ideal, and central London is only a 15 minute ride on the overground train . We preferred to catch the train rather than be in central London with inferior and more expensive accommodation. Highly recommend. DYOR Nothing .

Nothing (some low ceilings in the attic room were a bit hazardous for me being over 6ft though so take care!)

She loves to get to know her guests and make sight-seeing recommendations based on her guests’ interests. She was so warm and welcoming upon arrival, making it incredibly hard to leave. My friend and I felt so comfortable and at home in such a clean, comfortable and friendly environment. Jane also taught my friend and I how to use London’s train system, which saved us a lot of time and money when trying to check everything off our daily itineraries. Be sure to grab breakfast from Jane as well, we loved her French toast! The Lilac Door is located near a few cafes which really gives you the local London experience. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Next time I’m in London, I will definitely be booking with Jane! I loved everything about the Lilac Door. I will absolutely be staying here again. Jane is a lovely host and is welcoming to all walks of life. She was so excited for us to experience London and gave us plenty of recommendations for the younger crowd and for those who like true crime/horror!
