Guest Reviews

- Lohre (10/5): - As others have noted, the location is amazing and the hosts are wonderful and accommodating. The room was clean and quiet with plenty of hot water. We kept the windows open all the time, except at night if we turned the lights on. That, along with the fan, provided plenty of air circulation for a decent night's sleep. During our stay, we were woken daily by the howler monkeys in the tree above our room, were kept company by the raucous Red Lored Parrots and had breakfast with the geckos. You can walk to the beach from this location. We rented a car as we were going to many locations at different times of the day and night for birding. I would say it is borderline in terms of needing a car or not from this location. I was thankful for it.
If you are looking for a clean, quiet, safe and affordable place to stay, I would highly recommend this place. In a perfect world, this place would have had air conditioning, a much thicker mattress and a little kitchenette area. However, with all that stated, it was very clear those things were not provided when I booked and I made the determination, based on pricing, to go with this place. There are other places in the area that do provide those amenities for which you will pay significantly more for.
- Joerg (10/5): Super schöne, sehr naturnahe Unterkunft - Die Besitzer waren super freundlich und hilfsbereit. Luis könnte mir jeden Abend spannende Tiere in seinem "Garten" zeigen: Schlafende Vögel, 2 Schlangenarten, Anulies, ...

- Iulian (10/5): - Stayed at Louis and enjoyed the wild animals, the tranquility and secluded place. We also had our daily breakfast accompanied by little geckos. There is a beach nearby arround 10’ walking with a very good restaurant which I recommend.
- Ennio (10/5): Beautiful, calm, slowed down with super-friendly hosts surroundedby amazing flora and fauna. - Amazing little lodge basically directly in a private piece of jungle but with nice walkways. The hosts are super friendly and showed us all kinds of animals on their property. Every time we returned from a daytrip they showed us something new or took us on little night walks - just amazing. The room was clean and the breakfast was good, surrounded by beautiful plants with visitors such as Colibris or tiny lizards saying hello in the morning. Also, we just had to walk for about 10 minutes to a wonderful beach where we were alone most of the time (during low season).
Beautiful Manzanillo is just around the corner - 20 minutes walk on the beach. Puerto viejo and Cahuita National park are close as well, we took a local bus which stopped 3 minutes from the lodge entrance.
If you love nature and a peaceful and quiet place to stay with amazing and friendly hosts who enthusiastically show you the beauty of Flora and Fauna of Costa Rica - this is the place for you, away from crowded and touristy hotels. There is nothing we did not like
- soto murillo (9/5): Paz y Naturaleza - Buena ubicación para otros lugares El colchón es un poco pequeño y delgado.
- Glen (10/5): Exceptional - Quiet location away from the younger tourist crowd. Nature oriented, owner and host cares about the property and is very familiar with the wildlife living in the site. He is happy to share his knowledge and point out the local critters living there. Nice common area with hammock and table.
- Rhea (9/5): Tranquil stay in nature. - Luis was very welcoming and looked after us well. We were off the beaten track at El Colibri, hidden away in a tropical paradise, watching nature pass us by. Luis helped us discover incredible wildlife right on our lodge's doorstep. We had geckos joining us for breakfast and a viper watching over us. At night we saw lizards and frogs emerge. A true escape into nature.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional - Location was wonderful! Luck of any kitchen equipment was a problem (eg. kettle, utensils, plates)
- Lasawno (10/5): Exceptional - The room and quiet area
- Zuzana (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts were absolutely amazing, they prepared breakfast for us on the terrace every day, the room was always beautifully cleaned and Luis showed us lots of animals that live in his garden. We saw a lot of monkeys, toucans, frogs, lizards, snakes, various insects and even tarantula. The place is beautiful and we enjoyed our stay there very much. Fridge and kettle would be nice to have in the room, however Luis provided us with an icebox and always boiled water for us when we asked.
- Adrià (7/5): Good -
- Alan (10/5): Exceptional - Great host, passionate about nature and we learnt a lot from him.
- Klos (10/5): Exceptional - Our stay there was absolutely amazing. We loved everything. It was truly a paradise for nature lovers. I would come back there if I could.
- Tatiana (4/5): Disappointing - I booked the room after reading some reviews and knowing there is no A/C in the room, but we've travelled in CR before multiple times and it was not a problem.
So, we checked in after a hot day in the end of August. The room was very very hot and the host explained it will be cooling off later in the evening. There was one stand alone fan working full speed. Opening the windows will invite the bugs, so we left the fan on and went to the beach before the sunset.
Upon our return we realized the room was very hot. We left for dinner and came back later. The room still was very hot...
The host was very nice to show us a few of the frogs in the surroundings when he met us in the evening
Since we couldn't use the room, we waited on the porch past midnight. Still the room was very hot and we couldn't open the door and windows... No breeze. We ended up opening the windows ( full window can't be open, only a small part of it) and getting under the mosquito net. Felt suffocating, so removed the net. Very unfortunate night experience. We left next day forfeiting the second night. I can't imagine to have anyone in such a hot room. Screens on the windows could be very helpful in such conditions. Room gets very hot on the hot days and one fan is not enough to cool it off efficiently
- Trevor (8/5): Room in a rain forest - Friendly helpful host. Being surrounded by a rainforest with visits from spider monkeys and other creatures. Facilities were fairly basic such as only cold water.
- Greg (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was perfect and eating on the deck with the gekkos entertaining. The owners were well informed about the flora and fauna and eager to share their knowledge. Definitely check out the gardens at night!
- Paulina (7/5): For nature lovers. - Louis, our host, was great in communicating and showing us interesting animals (sleeping Colliber, frogs, monkeys) on the property. We enjoyed morning breakfast on private balcony: fruits, toast, jam and coffee. Louis was kind to also make me additional tea.
The apartment was cleaned every day.
Good to know:
The property is located next to a road. During the weekend the traffic and noise were higher, then it got quieter next days. You can walk to nearest beach about 10 min ( first two minutes on the road and then side road). A very pretty, cosy cove beach is located 40min walking at Punta Uva - you can park car right next to the beach.
The property is composted of two adjustening apartments/houses that share a wall. For first two nights we had other visitors as neighbours and other two nights the other apartment was empty. Next to the apartments there is an outside sitting area with a hammock and chairs and tables - good spot to watch the monkeys and Collibers.
To get to nearest shop you need a car, bike or a longer walk (30-40 min).
The water in bathroom is not very warm, but on a hot day can actually be a blessing.
There is no fridge in the room, but Louis was affering us a coolbox with ice for fruit or drinks.
It's not allowed to cook in the room.
It might be a good idea to bring your own beach towels.
The area is very humid. The clothes don't dry (fast). We found the bed rather small 140 (?) cm wide. It felt hard, being made from wood planks with a not very thick mattrace over them.
The room gets very hot in the day and does not cool fast in evening. There is one electric fan but doesn't cool the whole room much.
Having a small soap and few pegs to hang the clothes while in bathroom would have been very helpful.
We missed having access to hot boiling water, cups, kettle or thermos and being able to make tea /coffee in the rest of the day. To get those one has to go to some near restaurant and that's already a trip.
- Lewis (8/5): A wonderful rustic oasis in the middle of the jungle - A wonderful rustic oasis in the middle of the jungle. Each cabin has a hammock chair, from which you can watch nature everyday. The property is swarming with monkeys, humming birds, frogs, beautiful spiders and even sloths!
Luis the owner was always ready to help and assist us when we needed breakfast early due to our tours and activities. Please note the beds are quite small if you are tall, and we recommend renting bikes (not available at the lodge) to get to Manzanillo or Punta Uva from here, as the walk to any restaurants is quite far.
- Nathan (8/5): Enjoyable rainforest retreat - The hosts were really friendly & accommodating. Excellent location in the heart of the rainforest. Room was good, although only one fan meant it got very hot at night. could perhaps do with an A/C unit in the room.
- Felipe (10/5): Peacefully beautiful stay in the middle of the Caribbean jungle - Louis is exceptional host ! They are pending of every need that we had.
Breakfast was so tasty.
The property is beautiful, it’s in the middle of the Caribbean Forest. We had the chance to watch 2 types of monkeys, frogs, toucans, green macaws, sloths, etc.
The place is peaceful. Maybe they could offer snacks or some things for sale.
It will be great if the cabin had an small kitchen
- Keith (9/5): lovely experience and enjoyed the bug walk at night - we were tucked away in a little tropical rain forest. no fault
- Norbert (10/5): Exceptional - Great place, very peaceful with a wonderful garden. Lots of awesome birds. Nothing not to like.
- Megan (10/5): Exceptional - This place is amazing! Lovely large bungalows with good mosquito nets, table and chairs and a great ensuite bathroom, complete with drying rack and a big fan. The outdoor terrace is beautiful and a perfect place to enjoy breakfast, which is served every morning 7.30-9.30am. The breakfast is fruit, toast, coffee and tea and changes everyday which is fab.
The property is in its own little jungle with hummingbirds, toucans, macaws, geckos, lizards to name a few we saw!
It's very quiet and yet right next door to a bus stop which takes you either to Manzanillo or all the way to Limon.
The beach is less than a ten minute walk away and it is stunning! We went here everyday and watched the sunrise - perfect!
There is also a really good restaurant called El Refugio just up the road which serves Argentinian food and cocktails in a very cool jungle setting.
The hosts were incredible! Louis went above and beyond his duty of care. He was there to greet us, take our bags and give us a warm welcome. He enquired after us everyday and gave us the best recommendations, like the restaurant, Cahuita National Park and knew where to send us to book a dolphin trip round the bay of Manzanillo. The dolphin trip was amazing do it if you can!
Louis also offered bikes for hire, booking taxis and even dropped us off for our 5am bus!
Louis and his wife showed us so much nature and were just the best, I cannot recommend staying here enough, loads to do and the perfect hosts! We were sad to leave! Being incredibly picky, but some soap in the bathroom would have been nice.
- Jana (10/5): If you are a nature love, go for it! :) - We felt in love with this property. It is a secreet gem in the jungle😊 We really enjoyed our stay there, place is wonderful because is situated in the forest. You can see many animals from the terase and admire the beauty of costarican nature. We saw sloths, tucans, colibries, snakes, spiders, lizzards, monkeys over there :) The owners are very kind a and friendly, they made our trip even more beautiful with their advices. The,, night tour" in the garden which we have done with them n the property was fantastic! We saw so many species and had a great fun. Totally recommended, if we will return, will stay again in this place. Muchas gracias, Jana & Oliver n/a
- Manou (9/5): Nice stay in the middle of nature - Sleeping in the jungle, the host showed us lots of animals that were living in our garden (baby snake in the trees, gekko's, frogs, lizards, chameleons ...). The room is very big and the clamboe made sure the mosquitos couldn't get to you. Breakfast is served on your own personal terrace, so you litteraly have a private breakfast in the jungle. Wifi signal was weak at our cabine. Also no airconditioning, which was hot at times, but there is a fan to help keep you cool.
- Losilla (10/5): Exceptional -
