Guest Reviews
- Valerie (9/5): Classic property with a great location. Highlight were the meals. The hospitality was first class! - The food was outstanding - morning to night. Make sure you make a reservation for the dinner. It's worth the experience. I can't compliment the staff enough for their hospitality, their knowledge of the food - and the community. We had an awesome stay. Our experience was so good. Wouldn't change a thing!
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional Inn from the 1840's with wonderful staff and ambience - Everything was great There was nothing we didn't like
- Tracey (8/5): -
- Eelke (10/5): Most pleasant surprise - Everything was near perfect.
Food was exceptional.
Not exaggerating here! Nothing was disappointing
- Peter Gregory (9/5): Delicious food - Comfortable suite in a good location near the water and shops. It's not a question of something I disliked, but maybe a little longer to enjoy the freshly cooked breakfast.
- Michelle (10/5): Excellent accommodation in a lovely area. Spacious and comfortable. Home away from home. - Expansive but private location close to beach and easy walk into Apollo Bay. Size of cottage and well designed rooms. Attention to detail of comfort. Laundry facilities and choice of traditional fire place for heating. Nothing.
- Vanessa (9/5): Outstanding food and hospitality - Best food and hospitality we’ve experienced along our great ocean td trip If you want a larger bed or room don’t book the attic
- James (10/5): The Merrijig Inn, the home away from home. The warmth of this place is something else. The charm, the character, the mea - Everything! Nothing.
- Ylenia (10/5): -
- Eleanor (10/5): -
- Erika (9/5): Wish we could’ve stayed longer - Fabulous breakfast
Nice location!
We had the king suite which was huge! Restaurant wasn’t open the night we stayed:(
- John (10/5): Funky but great fun! - Funky but fun old building. Great staff. Loved the red haired woman who served breakfast. We like vintage, but well kept properties like this.
- William (8/5): Charming inn with excellent food - Great character in a great location with a wonderful breakfast The attic room was very small and the bed uncomfortable
- John (10/5): A cosy and restorative sanctuary after a long drive - Individual and homely accommodation, friendly and helpful people, wonderful breakfast Nothing
- Jeff (10/5): - Wonderful rooms and facilities. Dining was excellent, with superb breakfast.
- Monica (7/5): Cosy and relaxed - Very cosy hotel with several communal areas for relaxation. The restaurant was not open for the evening (although might have been too expensive for us) but it was nice to be able to bring in some fish and chips and a bottle of wine. The attic room was very compact ( but cosy and nice)
- Richard (7/5): Good location - Close to beaches and town centre both within walking distance
Friendly reception good breakfast Unfortunately we booked late and they only had a small attic room left
This was adequate but a little cramped for us
- Barbara (8/5): - Loved the history of the place.
All the staff were extremely nice and helpful.
Liked that produce was used from the surrounding area Was disappointed the garden looked a bit Uncared for - maybe that was the time of year?
- Wesley (9/5): Living a piece of history - Going back in time . Water pressure in first floor rooms absolutely suck !
- karen (10/5): -
- Mark (9/5): A fantastic Stay and Town - We loved our room size, the character and a great breakfast Not much, maybe a second bin ( apart from bathroom one) would be good
- kathy (10/5): - A charming place where you are made to feel welcome in someone’s home Nothing
- Helen (8/5): Peaceful 2 night stay - Lovely breakfast.
Our wedding anniversary so delighted that we had a complimentary glass of 'bubbles'.
Enjoyed our dinner though a tad more than I ex[ected. Nothing.
- Annie (9/5): Very enjoyable, felt v welcomed - Fabulous breakfast - especially the option of mushroom omelette freshly made. Loved the spiced poached fruits & walnuts addition
Loved the home jams & being able to make my own toast.
Coffee thin /no body - spoilt by Melbourne coffee Doona/bedspread was too heavy
- Julia (10/5): -
- Anita (9/5): - A very quaint and comforting Bed and Breakfast. So nicely decorated and a lovely breakfast in the morning. Thank you!
- Natalie (10/5): I absolutely would stay there again. - Great location, lovely staff. Small but comfortable. The breakfast was absolutely delicious!!! Nothing. It was lovely.
- Karen (10/5): A welcoming and relaxing stay. - Great location, wonderful and welcoming vibe, lots of charm and wonderful breakfast Everything was wonderful
- Ella (8/5): Beautiful stay, kind and caring staff. Delicious food. - The breakfast was amazing, and amazing value to have been included within the accommodation price. Barista style coffee was also a bonus I wasn’t expecting! No air conditioning made one of our nights a bit warm for sleeping. A fan was made available for us though.
- Karolina (8/5): Cute and cosy - Very unique decor, loved it Room was very small
- Tim (9/5): - Very friendly staff with great breakfast and even beter dinner!
- Jacki (10/5): Unique boutique hotel with an emphasis on good food - Restaurant and food were exceptional, loved the small bar area and communal spaces. Our room was delightful, making it a special stop while driving along the Great Ocean Road. Nothing
- Caroline (9/5): A real gem - a stay with character and welcome - 100% vintage Australian! This Inn has an amazing history and has so much character. Run by Liz and her fantastic team, it’s comfy, quirky and has everything for a restful stay. I loved it but can imagine some would not be happy with the vintage vibe.
- Karen (9/5): - Breakfast was absolutely amazing.
- Merinda (10/5): What a wonderful experience to stay & dine here! - I loved it here! The staff Egen, Shu, Liz, Tania and Grace were all just amazing and treated me like family. My room was exquisite it was like being in another world. The view looked out onto the Moyne River. The breakfast and dinners were just out of this world! Besides being in a great location, quiet, and within a 5 minute walk from town attractions. I would like to highly recommend the Merrijig Inn & Kitchen.
- Jill (9/5): Perfect old inn set in a great location - Old fashioned hospitality which you don’t see often. Great room and access to the lovely garden
- David (5/5): Over price and seriously over rated. - The staff were excellent, friendly informative and helpful. Breakfast was good, but quite limited. The property is very tired, OVER priced and OVER rated. Room 1 (studio!) was shabby, needs serious upgrading, dark, dingy and other guests outside seating was directly outside our bedroom window! The view we had from the toon were the backs of other guests, dying potted plants and an unkempt, unloved front garden. Glad we only stopped one night.
- Gabriela (8/5): Cozy and quiet - The owner was very hospitable and made us feel welcomed. We were also happy that our little dog was allowed to study with us. The room was spacious. The breakfast was included which we unfortunately had to miss. We only stayed one night and everything we needed was provided.
- Beth (10/5): -
- Richard (9/5): A brush with the past! - The place is very charming — "Old World" charm. We loved it. The host and staff were absolutely delightful. We didn't eat at the restaurant, but the menu looked excellent, and it changes daily. A great location down by the river. Well, it's a very old building and so the rooms are going to be smaller than in modern dwellings — but the bed was very comfortable and it was cosy. A bit of noise (laughing and chatter) came up from the restaurant in the early evening, but nothing major, and everything had fallen quiet by 9.30pm.
- andy (10/5): Beautiful old inn, with great food if you want - Beautiful old inn folk of character. Lovely shared sitting rooms too and a beautiful garden. The place is also a gourmet restaurant, very popular as the food is great. They specialise in local fresh produce. The breakfast was lovely. Friendly and helpful staff. And Port Fairy is beautiful, Griffiths Island in particular (reachable across a causeway)
- Lucinda (9/5): We enjoyed our cute attic room in a sweet guesthouse in a convenient location - The kettle attic room was very cute and cosy. The breakfast was outstanding. All the staff were very friendly. We were able to open the windows but the room still got quite hot at night.
- Rebecca (10/5): Nourishment for the soul - Cosy and comfortable, positively charming
- wendy (10/5): - Brilliant place, very cosy ,very friendly 😀
- Peter (10/5): -
- Myles (8/5): - Charming inn/hotel
Authentic cooking
Personalised service
- Marios (7/5): Quirky vintage hotel, could do with some TLC in places - The location and the food was amazing Shower was very weak, so not easy to have one in the mornings.
The noise from the bar which was below
- Cian (10/5): -
- Kath (9/5): -
- Alvin (9/5): I had a wonderful stay at this homey inn. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the space felt - Homey feel. Love the staffs too Nothing actually
- Robbie (6/5): - Unfortunately we went to the restaurant and the steak which we requested as medium was extremely rare - this was for three people who all thought the same. It had to be recooked which ruined the dining experience Restaurant
- Seren (9/5): - Everything , fantastic food
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Andrew (9/5): Perfect stay in the most gorgeous of cosy places! - Sometimes it’s the quirky (not sure it that’s the right word but it was just so so “at home” & cosy places that absolutely make you feel at a home away from home. Merrijig delivers this in spades. Perfect location, loved our room, loved the food (book a table to guarantee a dining room space) we loved our high seats in the bar though. Breakfast to die for and just the most friendly people who cannot do enough for you, only wish we’d been able to stay longer…
- Vanessa (9/5): Very pleasant stay. Loved the food and especially the breakfast. Very grateful for the upgrade to the King Suite. - The quaintness. Nothing
- Helen (10/5): Wonderful stay - Breakfast was delicious Nothing
- Vicki (8/5): -
- Karen (10/5): Perfect - The breakfast was scrumptious we were so full that we didn't need anything further to eat until 2pm that day
- Deborah (9/5): Great accommodation and great food. - We had Room 3 which I think is the best available as we had a corner room that overlooked the back garden. We also had our own access to the garden from our room.
- Grant (10/5): - Loved the quaintness and breakfast extraordinary
- Rebecca (10/5): Nourishment for the soul -
- Delia (10/5): -
- Gary (8/5): - We stated in one of the attic rooms. It was tiny but adequate for one night. The Merrijig Inn itself had a rustic charm. The breakfast was sensational. The room needed a little renovation. I thought it was a bit overpriced.
- Jonathan (9/5): Absolutely perfect. - The property is very quaint and homely, albeit a bit tired looking from the outside. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. It is half way between the town centre and the nature reserve and lighthouse and hence ideal. The staff were very welcoming, and breakfast, which was included, was excellent.
- Steve (10/5): -
- Lorraine (10/5): - Excellent restaurant
- sylvia (9/5): An excellent place to stay. - It had lots of character. Our room was small, but in keeping with the age of the property
The breakfast was amazing.
The staff were really helpful and friendly. If we had been staying longer, I would have liked a bigger room. Not a problem for one night.
- Janette (10/5): - Staff all exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was brilliant.
- Heinrich Martin (9/5): Wish we had booked more than one night!!! - Very generous rooms with lounge room and large bathroom and nearby kitchen…
Lovely garden
Restaurant
Great breakfast
Very lovely staff
Good location
- jean paul (9/5): Excellent ! Rien.
- David (10/5): Lovely family run hotel - would recommend - Great character hotel with great good Na
- Jessica (10/5): Wonderful stay! Liz went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable. Will be back! - Service by Liz, amenities fantastic
- Liza (8/5): - Location. The wash basin is leaking.
- Michael (10/5): -
- Rachael (8/5): Quaint little property in great location with lovely friendly staff - Location was lovely
Staff were very helpful and friendly, nothing was a problem
Breakfast was delicious
Room was very clean and tidy Attic room was very small, we couldn’t comfortably have both our luggage in the room, but it was cute
- Karen Jean (8/5): A very quirky interesting inn - Quirky Small bedrooms hot
- John (8/5): A great stopover at Port Fairy - Lovely Victorian hotel full of charm and character.
- Lesley (10/5): Quaint old fashioned with a great restaurant delightful stopover - Great restaurant with rooms…. Quaint and old fashioned but in a very charming way…. All the comforts of home. Home made biscuits in our room was a lovely touch. Excellent Dinner ( extra charge) in a fabulous restaurant full of charm. Great food and cheeseboard…French inspired it seemed to us….. extensive wine list but also some very good wines by the glass. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening and overnight stay whilst travelling The Great Ocean Road…. Would highly recommend Lovely selection of cereal, breads and fruits which appeared home made or grown but the hot food was limited to one selection that was basically a tiny fried egg and bacon on brioche which meant my husband only had a fried egg on Brioche. No alternative was offered,
- Tim (9/5): -
- Hilary (10/5): -
- Michael (9/5): -
- Jennie (9/5): Great spot in lovely village - just watch your head! - The building is very quirky - garden bar delightful and dinner is a must - beautiful fresh food well cooked and great wine. Breakfast is included and very good, and the staff were all helpful and cheerful. If you are upstairs in the attic be aware it is miniscule with little room for suitcases and low ceilings that don't accommodate taller people! Bed is very comfortable but the ceiling slopes down above it on one side and it's hard to avoid banging your head especially in the dark.
- Alistair (9/5): -
- Mark (8/5): Only one night, excellent breakfast and service, comfortable bed - Old colonial building, lovely character but with associated limitations of room size and steepness of stairs etc Gentle head bumps in our attic rooms
- Peter (6/5): Place could be great after renovation - Quaint and good location. Great breakfast In need of major overhaul. Lots of bugs in the room
- Margot (10/5): Brilliant hotel and restaurant - A very special place. Full of character and run by helpful and very professional people. The restaurant meal was superb and the excellent breakfast was all homemade and delicious. Our room was very small, though perfectly comfortable.
- Andrew (10/5): Perfect stay, some of the best food I’ve ever had - Everything, the food was exceptional, lovely staff who all had a real passion Wish id booked longer
- Rowann (9/5): - The inn was exactly as we expected, quaint and very friendly with exceptional staff and food
- Grete (10/5): Highly recommended! - A place full of history
- Fabienne (8/5): -
- Yvette Marshall (8/5): - Very quirky, breakfast was fantastic. Room was small but very comfy. A very pleasant stay, would definitely stay again. Small, a walk to the town
- Anne (10/5): - Very cosy. Excellent food for the dinner and breakfast was outstanding
- Ian (8/5): An enjoyable experience and would have no hesitation in recommending a visit. - The location overlooking the river was lovely and the quaintness of the property was a delight.
Food, service, ambience at dinner in the restaurant was truly great. The Breakfast was excellent with
home made breads, bakes, preserves, a special hot course of Eggs Florentine was a bonus and
double shot flat whites from the barrister another plus! A little shabby decor to be chic ! Needs more TLC.
