Guest Reviews
- Bruno (8/5): -
- Linda (10/5): Great location and value - Such a charming way to stay in Amsterdam! The location was perfect for everything we wanted to do. The beds and pillow were
so comfy! And I was amazed at the amount of water pressure the shower had. Loved sitting ‘up top’ and watching the world go by. Wifi was pretty worthless, only worked for me when I was ‘up top’ of the boat.
- Cicely (8/5): - We enjoyed being on the boat and watching the nonstop river traffic. Two separate sleeping areas was good. Daan and his wife were very helpful with bags and information. The boat was comfortable and had all you needed. It is in a handy location only 2 metro stops from Central Station. Great bakery just across the bridge. Metro and tram stops close by. Just be aware that the entrance steps are steep and the toilet space is small (it is a boat after all). It wasn't a problem for us but could be if you have limited mobility.
- Anke (10/5): - Super netter Gastgeber, perfekte Lage, außergewöhnliche Unterkunft, muss man gemacht haben ....alles super. Dusche und Toilette ungewöhnlich, aber dafür ist man auf einem Boot TOP
- Shirley (7/5): Couple of nights stay in good central part of Amsterdam. Within walking distance of most places. - Great position although had to climb across owners barge to get to boat. Owner friendly and helpful. Boat has all facilities needed. Bit noisey until about 11om. No breakfast as appeared to be stated in the title. Toilet flushes straight into the canal - which is apparently alright for this type of boat but not house boat/ barges.
- Guest (10/5): Séjour agréablement confortable - La vue Les toilettes

- Julie (9/5): Boatilicious - It’s a boat! There’s no need to say more. If you like boats you will love this accommodation. It was quirky, amazing location, and we loved the fun of staying on the water in Amsterdam. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the top deck with a glass of wine to watch the sunset. Kitchen facilities and the shower were surprisingly good. Communication with hosts Daan and Huub was fast. It was great, just some small suggestions: the written instructions for the boat toilet could be clearer. A more powerful fan would be good for hot days. A small amount of milk would be a nice touch.
- Madeleine (8/5): -
- Demi (7/5): Enjoyed it and I’d happily stay again. It’s not 5* but it’s unique and an experience - The top deck is amazing, watching the world go by with a drink and smoke.
Sleeping arrangements worked and were comfortable. I’d say maximum 4 people in this boat but more ideal for a couple.
I liked the security of Dave’s boat being in front of the boat we stayed on as well as locks, it feels more secure. Possibly invest in the toilet and shower just a bit of TLC needed.
We came when it was 30 degree heat, two fans were in the room for us but weren’t that powerful.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - Really fun experience to stay on a boat! It was cozy and the location was excellent. The hosts were responsive and kind.
- Sonia (8/5): Very good - Location, convenience, cheap accommodation for Amsterdam, quirkiness Some noise particularly at night
- Karen (8/5): Wonderful experience - Daan was lovely, would definitely come again. The ice bar is opposite which is worth a visit. Brilliant location.
- Jakub (10/5): Hidden Gem in the hearth of Amsterdam, perfect for couples - We have loved the proactive approach of the friendly “captain” Daan, location of the boat which is perfect and the overall experience you can have only when staying in the place like this. There is nothing more romantic than having a sip of good wine on the top floor with the views over the canal and boats passing by.
Positive thing is, all the boats stop operating around 10-11pm so there is nothing but quiet and relaxing sleep in the cabin that perfectly fits two. Of course, it’s the boat so if you have ever been on one, you are aware of its all pros and cons aka boat toilet, small shower etc. this is not a negative aspect but something you need to count on every single boat. Here it’s clean and I wouldn’t afraid to call it spacious (compared to other boats). We are looking forward to come back soon!;)
- Nigel (10/5): Excellent location - Great to watch the world go by - First of all the location it top notch right outside the national ballet.
Easy walking distance to everything.
We had a beer first night with our host who showed us the local bar. Of which there are many.
We used this as a perfect base to just wander and spend a weekend.
- Yiheng (10/5): Very novel and great experience! - The boat owner is very friendly and enthusiastic. He explained to us in detail many things on the boat. The facilities on the boat were also very complete, with a small refrigerator and food for cooking. The hot water for bathing was stable and comfortable. It was a bit cold at night but there was a heater. The rooms were very small but it was understandable, after all, it was on a boat.😂
- Gabriela (6/5): Pleasant - Location Clean
- Antje (9/5): Absolutely fabulous! - Absolutely the best location to be in Amsterdam.
Sitting on deck of the Good Life you’ll see boats travel up and down the canal. Staying on a boat was a unique experience. It had everything we needed. Small fridge and a stove. Shower was small, but water pressure and temperature were excellent! Even the bed was big enough for two tall people like us. Would definitely stay here again. The host is very hospitable and helpful, too. Highly recommended!
- Om (3/5): Poor -
- Claire (7/5): Good - Great location and great host.
- Mayra (9/5): An amazing boat accommodation experience right in the heart of Amsterdam! - The boat space for a family of three was just perfect. The location was great, and the host's communication was exceptional—they were always very helpful, consistently meeting our needs. The security of the boat's main door needs improvement to feel safer at night. We provided this feedback to the host, and they assured us they would address it for future guests. The fridge was also having some issues, and the host gave similar feedback regarding further improvements to enhance the experience for future guests.
- Gareth (8/5): Very good -
- David (8/5): The highlight was sitting on the top deck of the boat, enjoying a drink & watching watercraft go by. - Staying on a motor cruiser on the canal was a fantastic & novel experience, we also got to use the deck facilities of the host's barge adjoined to our boat. The boat facilities met our requirements, we slept well even though we had warm days/nights (no air con). The highlight was sitting on the top deck of the boat, enjoying a drink & watching the people and various watercraft go by. Great location close to trains, trams, restaurants, shops.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - All of it Boat needs slightly updating, new curtains etc. Could do with a dust pan and brush to keep clean whilst staying there. Otherwise, it is fabulous
- Glenn (9/5): Superb - Great location on the water. Hosts were friendly and helpful.
- Trixy (9/5): Fantastc stay in a picturesque location in central Amsterdam - Great central location. Fantastic space to relax and take in the view. The perfect location for sunset! Perfect location to sit and watch the world go by. There’s plenty going on both on the canal and in the neighbourhood during the day time yet does become peaceful late evening.
Daan and his family made us feel at home immediately.
The boat is bigger than the pictures and the bed comfy even for the 6ft tall person.
Will definitely book again. Nothing to dislike, it exceeded our initial expectations - both accommodation and location.
- Charlene (10/5): Lovely stay will be returning! -
- Nancy (10/5): Perfect location - The location can't be beat. It was exactly as described which was perfect for my stay. It was cozy, comfortable and had great people watching opportunities. Daan was lovely and welcoming. I will be returning.
- Vinit (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alison (9/5): Perfect location for a trip to Amsterdam - Quirky
Great Location for walking, trams,metro,
Loved being on the river and watching the boats and the wildlife float by The toilet took a bit of getting used to, worked well when we got the hang of it
- Kimberly (8/5): Bucket List Stay - A dreamy spot on the canal in the heart of scenic Amsterdam. It was a real treat to stay here. Nice to have a sitting area and tiny kitchenette. The owner was welcoming and flexible. We worried the bed area would be uncomfortably cramped but it was comfy and cozy It's a boat. It's small. All negatives to be expected...need places to hang things, little smell in bathroom... Nothing was really a problem. Would stay again in a heartbeat! BTW no breakfast here but great bakery just across the bridge.
- Leanne (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic location and Dan is lovely. Boats lovely and clean. Bigger inside than expected
- Hilary (9/5): Superb -
- Artur (10/5): Exceptional - Phenomenal stay in the centre of Amsterdam. Nice hosts, great view from the boat, unbeatable location, and the experience to remember. Can be noisy at night when trying to sleep
- Bdmadu (10/5): Unique place to stay - Great location on the Amstel beside StOpera 20mins walk from Central Station. Great experience to sit on deck watching the canal traffic. Pretty small space but exactly as in the photographs and very comfortable. Has everything needed for a short stay including a great shower. Overall would definitely recommend as a unique place to stay to see Amsterdam Not much to dislike. Access is over the owners boat which is a bit tricky but fine. Otherwise brilliant
- James (10/5): great - this is a lovely change from the norm. i understood what a boat would consist of before going ( steep stairs etc) but it was worth it. the deck on the top for sunbathing was great. brilliant location where we found a new part of the city to explore nothing. i knew what is involved being on a boat and was happy with what i found.
- Anna (7/5): Never lived in a boat before and it was a nice experience. Definitely to be repeated - The boat is hitched onto a bigger Boat, where the host lives with his family and he was on hand to welcome us and introduce us to the intricacies of living on a boat. Space is tight as expected but everything works from a 3burner gas stove, fridge, sitting space, and double bed. You can also sit on the deck and watch the boats going by. It is very near the Metro station It is right next to the bridge also used by cars and a tram and a bit noisy. However, after midnight until 7.00 am the tram stops and you can sleep peacefully
- Hannah (10/5): Only way to do Amsterdam - Boat was awesome! Such a lovely stay. Our little ones loved it. And Daan was super accommodating!
- Jane (1/5): awful. avoid - Amsterdam Boat & Breakfast is not a safe place to stay. To access it you have to clamber over owner’s boat and then scramble onto this boat via a makeshift step. once on board trip hazards everywhere. Toilet primitive and discharges straight into the canal. no effort has been made to bring this boat up to an acceptable standard. makeshift cabin door, botched fridge door. sheets crumpled and were distinctly unfresh. place smelled awful
- Carol (9/5): This was a bucket list item for me and was great fun - 5* location right by the Opera house on the canal so really easy to get to. Fun stay! it was a little hard to get in and out of the boat since you have to go over the host’s boat to get to it, but that also made me feel safer as a woman traveling solo
- Catherine (9/5): Superb - Amazing location, welcoming hosts: we loved the boat. Easy to get to key places in Amsterdam by foot. Watching the bird life (baby swans, coots, grebes) on the canal an unexpected bonus.
- Fiona (9/5): Great fun to stay on a boat in Amsterdam - Amazing location in the centre of Amsterdam and it was lovely to stay on a proper boat. Daan, the owner, was really friendly and helpful. The boat was cosy and had everything we needed for two of us.
- Carol (9/5): I would stay here again. - location
attentive boat owner
- Christopher (3/5): Very disappointing experience - Great location on the Amstel close to all attractions. We knew what to expect having stayed on a boat before so luxury wasn’t expected so the experience was rustic as anticipated. Our stay was thoroughly spoilt by a party held on our first night by a group of young people on the adjacent boat (the home of the owner of this smaller boat). This went on well into the night and even included drunken young men jumping on the deck of our boat at 4.30 a.m., meaning we had little or no sleep. It didn’t help that the boat owner was away for the duration of our stay leaving his son ‘in charge’.
- Johannes (7/5): Good - no breakfast available
- Kirree (10/5): loved Amsterdam - Location perfect. best view of the boats
- Matthew (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Chloe (10/5): Exceptional - This was an exceptional stay! Couldn't recommend highly enough to everyone. It was very self-sufficient with everything we needed and the location couldn't have been better. We went in winter and the owners supplied heating for the boat too so it was really cosy - we even saw fireworks being set off over the city from the cabin.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - The location and views from the boat where unbeatable really Daan and his family where nice and friendly too
- Eluned (8/5): Very good -
- Ricardo (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Mozhgan (10/5): perfect, definitely worth it - he is so nice and hospitable
location was great nothing
- Ken (10/5): We loved it and highly recommended it! - Staying on a boat in an Amsterdam canal is an amazing experience, and Daan’s boat did not disappoint. He secured a new boat recently, located in the same place as the one it replaced. Daan kept us informed about the change, and the new boat is comparable to the old one that we originally booked. We absolutely loved the location and on-the-water Amsterdam experience.
- Robert (10/5): highlight of our trip to Amsterdam - the location was amazing and probably one of the nicest spots in Amsterdam. we ended up staying
in the owners house boat and not the one advertised which was much larger and really well furnished. Daan couldn’t have been friendlier and very helpful when we needed anything. nothing
