Guest Reviews
- Sebastian (9/5): -
- Endre (10/5): I could live there forever - Serenity, history of it. We loved every aspect
- Greg (4/5): Disappointing stay, not what we expected - The house is beautiful and the location is nice. Breakfast was very good, with homemade jams and fresh, natural eggs. It felt generous and carefully prepared. The stay was disappointing overall and did not feel like a proper hotel experience. It was very obvious that a family lives in the house. Children and teenagers were constantly in shared spaces, and normal family activities happened around guests all day. Because of this, the place felt more like staying in someone else’s home than a place designed for travelers. It affected privacy and made it hard to relax. We are animal lovers and normally have no issue with pets. However, one morning we were woken up early by a dog barking right outside our window. The barking went on for some time and was quite disruptive, especially in a place that promotes peace and rest. We also had dinner at the restaurant. There was a large group at the same time, and we felt mostly ignored. Service felt slow and disorganized. The food was okay, but nothing special, and it did not feel like it was coming from the garden as advertised in several places. Additionally, the person in charge that evening did not seem fully sober and had difficulty staying focused, which made the experience uncomfortable. Overall, this place needs much better organization, clearer limits between family life and guest areas, and more professional service. The host himself was polite and tried to help, but the experience as a whole did not meet our expectations and we would not choose to stay here again.
- herve (10/5): Je recommande à 100% - Tout est génial et authentique
- Hannes (10/5): - A perfect stay! The hosts are very nice and caring. The restaurant is excellent. The house itself is so charming, surrounded by a fantastic landscape. ---
DANKE nochmals.
- Victoria (10/5): - Beautiful historic property. Very comfy amenities. Adding on the dinner nightly is a must!
- Kopstal (9/5): A jewel in the Chilean Andes mountains. - El Resguardo is a special place. An old customs building in the Andes on a very quiet road. Authentic. Patricio welcomed us in a warm manner making us feel at home immediately. The restaurant Rio where we enjoyed a delicious home cooked dinner by Patricio’s spouse is an experience on itself. Extensively decorated and heated by a wood stove. National Geographics from the 60ths in case one would get bored. Some nice wines on offer as well and all reasonably priced.
The property furthermore houses 8 or so friendly dogs, several cats, a horse and chickens. This is a different experience. If you only like Four Seasons, this may not be for you!
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nick (10/5): You simply must stay here! - This is a beautiful place to stay - it has so much history, charm and character. The rooms are big, the gardens are lovely and everything comes together to give you a wonderful experience. The hosts are amazing and the location is perfect. Nothing.
- Fraser (10/5): Unique and unforgettable stay - recommend for foodies - The staff were fantastic. Very welcoming and the food was amazing (be sure to book in for dinner) with a focus on using local produce. The property is unique and a real part of Chilean history. Everything was great but was a little difficult to find the property. We love animals but this would not be the place for you if you don't like dogs.
- Asheleigh (10/5): Exceptional - everything none
- Gergely (10/5): Super accommodation with unique ambiance in the nature - Great host and owner is Patricio and his wife.
Excellent dinner and breakfast with first class service.
5+ stars, strongly recommended.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (9/5): Superb - I could not have been more pleased with my stay at Casona el Resguardo. It is elegant not fancy, historic but contemporary, secluded & peaceful, and the staff were expert at hospitality and serving an excellent dinner outside under the eaves. Quintessentially rural Chilean and delightful, thank you! Just a slight confusion about the bill but that could have been my fault.
- Christopher (9/5): Our two-night stay was amazing and exceeded all of our expectations; we wish we had stayed longer! - Casona El Resguardo's combination of comfort and elegance was VERY impressive, especially considering its remote (and gorgeous) location.
- Dorianne (10/5): Your home in the Andes - A home away from home in the Andes.
Gourmet food (seriously!) and fantastic Pisco Sours!
We loved the dogs and cats, the ‘River’ swimming pool and the vinyl records!
Excellent base to drive Los Caracoles highway to Portillo, and visit Juncal Andean Park for a day hike. Nothing!
- Anonymous (10/5): A one of a kind and welcoming experience that will make your entire vacation. - Agustin, Patricio and his family were the most excellent and accommodating hosts. We arrived in the evening to cocktails and a fantastic greeting. The property felt like home. Safe parking, friendliest guard/loving perros, excellent piscot sours and billiards with vinyls in the salon. The dinner was an incredible blend of local homemade bread, vegetables, and perfectly cooked steak with a scratch chocolate cheesecake! The fires were stoked, historical stories were told and in the morning we had perfectly cooked huevos paired with aromatic coffee and smoothies to send us on our way to Portillo. We could not have asked for better hosts! Muchos Gracias! There were too many instruments to choose from to play in the salon throughout the evening. I didn’t have time to get food at them all… joking! There was nothing bad. It was amazing.
- Lee (2/5): Overvalued BnB that doesn't conform to standard ethical business practices. - Descent food, comfortable bed, friendly staff Their pets approached me frequently, and I am allergic to cats. They would not accept Credit Cards or PayPal, except if I paid the transaction fee. I asked if I could do some laundry, and Augustine said, "No, I'll do it for you." He did not say that he would charge for two loads of laundry, but after I checked out, he then messaged me on Whatsapp asking for $40 USD for the two loads of Laundry. Similarly, the food that was served, yes tasty and satisfying, they never shared what the cost was. To my surprise, at checkout, the delivered a bill for the food that was double the price that I had expected. I really do not like it when a proprietor does not practice full disclosure and blames me for not asking. Everywhere else I go, including the Ritz Carleton, discloses prices upfront and takes care of everything at checkout. Asking for an exorbitant fee after checkout, is just not right.
- Werner (10/5): An Unforgettable Getaway: Perfect Location, Delightful Food, and Charming Decor - What truly made the experience stand out was the warm and welcoming nature of the owners. They went above and beyond to ensure we felt right at home. The house itself was a marvel surrounded by beautiful nature – each corner adorned with unique and beautiful decorations that added an extra layer of charm to the stay. The breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all freshly made with local products and delicious. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend this accommodation to anyone looking for an unforgettable and delightful getaway. No negative points
- Claudia (9/5): Superb - Cozy colonial-type house with lots of dogs and cats, fruit trees and activities to enjoy your time there. The breakfast and dinner are really good! It was unclear whether the dinner was included or not… it was a little expensive, but it was worth it!
- Colleen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christopher (10/5): Off the beaten path, best experience we had on Chile trip - A very personal touch from A to Z. You actually step back into time and reside in an old house with lots of history. The host speaks perfect English and makes you feel super welcome. We also had an excellent dinner there which was made by the hosts sister who used local products made on their own farm. We want to return in a small group and reserve all 3 rooms and enjoy the place again. Fabulous hiking just on his doorstep with no other tourists in sight. If you want something off the beaten path, you got it!!
- Kate (10/5): Super stay, would highly recommend. - Super location, great views. The family were friendly, helpful and we had a fantastic dinner with most things grown in their garden.
Very quiet and great for getting away from it all.
- Lynne (10/5): A hidden gem, with top notch chef! - Wonderful restored home in the Andes, extremely comfortable, relaxing with all needed amenities. The chef, Soledad, prepared delicious meals ( we enjoyed 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts and 1 lunch). An overall outstanding experience. Family run, warm , friendly and professional. highly recommended No complaints
- Linh (10/5): Little hidden jewel - Little family hotel in a beautiful original building, which the owners have renovated little by little and have further expansion plans, with a gourmet restaurant. We really enjoyed the dinner and breakfast, simple but tasty, with fresh vegetables from their huge garden and home made produces, and the many details to make the stay comfortable (pool towels provided, etc.). It was also super special to relax & sip some local wine by the "pool", a little natural pond with fresh mountain water. The hotel is a little off the beaten track and we stayed only one night during our tour, but can be a good base for hikes or walks, and/or a perfect stop on the road to Argentina (Puente del Inca & Mendoza). We warmly recommend what could be called a cross between a farm/eco stay with a countryside boutique hotel (or create a new category ;)...) and wish all the best to our hosts. Nothing.
- Artem (8/5): Very good -
- Penelope (9/5): Superb - The facility and gardens. The locally sourced, fresh and tasty dinner and breakfast.
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - The property was charming! Comfortable, quiet, and a true delight. The rooms were clean, comfortable beds, and plenty of hot water. We had dinners in and the food was fantastic! Our host, Augustine, could not be more accommodating to our every needs . His Pisco sour‘s are the best! :-)
- Tisha (10/5): A unique and unforgettable experience - Beautiful setting with view of the Andes in a gorgeous old home. Augustin is the perfect host and the food was fresh and delicious Nothing!
- Eddy (10/5): A great place to stay between Santiago and going across the Andes into Argentina. - From the outside it looks like nothing, but wait until you walk into the courtyard of this beautiful 100 year old home. Wow!!! It was purchased by their Great Great Grandparent's years ago and still run by the family. The home is filled with their Great Great Grandmother's treasures. It is a very relaxing, comfortable home. We arrived in time to spend our afternoon relaxing in the court yard. The owners, Carlos (i believe) and his sister run the hotel now. Carlos makes delicious Pisco Sours. His sister is the chef. They have an organic garden where they pick the salad and vegs from. A must is their dinner. It was a beautiful evening so we sat outside in the terrace area and enjoy our delicious dinner. I wish we could have stayed longer. There was nothing we did not like.
- Jiyue (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast is included in the stay. We had scrambled eggs from the farm, freshly made juice and coffee, homemade bread and yoghurt. The host also offered to schedule the breakfast serving time according to our schedule!
The host offered dinner service at a reasonable price. Our dinner came with 3 courses and wines. The food was appetizing and delicious that are on par with restaurants in Santiago and much better than what you can get in Los Andes.
The host is very nice and I would recommend this place to my friends for sure!
