Guest Reviews
- Alana (7/5): Lovely little getaway! - Great location. Nice new shower with good hot water. Generous provisions left for breakfast. Loved Pepe the resident dog, she was gorgeous. Enjoyed time out on the deck. It would have been good to have a few throw rugs on the beds or in the lounge, it was quite cool inside and even to sit out on the deck you needed a lap rug. Would be a nice addition. Some extra hooks to hang towels behind doors in bedroom & bathroom would be good.

- Vanessa (10/5): Lovely 2 night stay for a family wedding. - The rooms were awesome and we were able to use the brand new shower!!!
The amount/variety of food supplied was excellent.
Everything was great. Nothing
- Barbara (10/5): Great host, great location. Do yourself a favour. - Peter was an excellent host and made us feel very welcome, as did his delightful dog Pepe. Very generous and thoughtful brekkie + provisions. Beautifully quiet peaceful bush setting with walk/bike track close by. Perfect location for enjoying the wineries and a short trip into town. Very comfortable accommodation with great facilities, and loads of books and games. Loved the covered outdoor deck in that beautiful setting. Couldn’t ask for more.
- Claudia (10/5): Our stay at friends at mclaren vale was lovely, the provided breakfast foods were exceptional. It’s truly a great quiet - Our stay at friends at mclaren vale was lovely, the provided breakfast foods were exceptional. It’s truly a great quiet place to get out of busy life and enjoy a few days there checking out the surrounding wineries.
Huge thank you to Peter who organises the property.
- Rebecca (10/5): - The quietness of the property. I loved everything about the place
- Jack (10/5): Nice place for an affordable price. - Nice place, Pete was a good bloke. Pepe the dog was also very welcoming, great price for that location.
- Michelle (10/5): Dream Weekend Accommodation for McLaren Vale Visit! - Everything was lovely - Peter went above and beyond for us in ensuring the check in process was smooth, all communications were consistent and we were well taken care of throughout the trip (all amenities are provided). There were lots of books to read too so that kept us busy. Fridge was stocked with plenty of delicious breakfast options and we gave lots of pats and rubs to Pepe daily (the cutest border collie!). Definitely enjoyed our entire experience and the importance of having a good night's sleep on holiday!
- Mattia (8/5): Beautiful nature based stay - In my personal opinion, as feedback I would have liked more secure/safer locks for the doors.
- MICHAEL (10/5): Exactly what we came for. - Very peaceful location, host Peter and his lovely dog Pepe were fantastic. Plenty of brekky provisions and other features. Very enjoyable. Highly recommend. Nothing.
- Gabrielle (8/5): -
- Deborah (10/5): Peter very friendly and accommodating, great location, comfortable - Very clean and tidy and amazing breakfast provisions Nothing
- Christine (9/5): - It was close to our daughters wedding venue
We were able to have our dog stay
Peter, the owner, was lovely and really went the extra mile with making our stay a good one
- Nbish (9/5): Rustic getaway in the middle of wine country - It's a perfect balance of price and location and facilities. Lovely and private feeling even though it's on someone's property and just so welcoming. There was a lovely little breakfast kit supplied with all the basics plus more, was not expecting that and saved a trip into the shops! Generous amount of milk and juice. Coffee, tea... Everything. Lovely and homely and such a great outlook. We really enjoyed our stay and wished we could have stayed longer.
- Dimitrios (10/5): - Very clean, plenty of food in fridge for breakfast, friendly dog and very peaceful place.
- Elonie (10/5): Perfect little McLaren vale accommodation - Such a lovely little property. Great, quiet location and the cabin was set up so perfectly. We didn’t travel with kids this time round but will be back with them another time. Everything you would need, and a beautiful little puppy friend, Pepe. Great outdoor space to eat and hang out on a warm day, and lots of garden space for kids to run around in. Peter was a great host too! Nothing.
- Martin (10/5): A perfect location for exploring Maclaren Vale - Peter the host was excellent. Good communication prior to arrival and the property was well presented with everything I could possibly need. Nothing
- Anthony (10/5): Great value. - Well equipped. Well supplied and perfect position. Peter and Pepe were great 👍 Nothing to report
- Philip (10/5): -
- Ally (10/5): Exceptional stay at friends at McLaren Vale - Incredible location set amongst the gum trees. Peter was incredibly welcoming and was happy to answer any questions. The book collection was very impressive and great to browse over a warm cup of tea. Couldn’t fault the accomodation- so much space, very clean and bed was so comfortable!
- Kyle (8/5): - I was in a bit of a tight spot visiting my sick Mum. Needed accommodation quickly. Very lucky to have found such a nice quiet place. The weather:)
- Tracey (10/5): - Great location loved the breakfast provisions and other treats. Lovely comfortable accomodation in a relaxed peaceful location.
- Alexandra (10/5): Perfect weekend escape, very comfortable stay. - Quiet location.
Very generous supplies left for breakfast.
- Sarah Peacey (8/5): - Guy mentioned words about the dogs. I said it's pet friendly isn't it? He said yes but expected the dogs to be small toy breeds. Which is ridiculous.
- David (10/5): -
- Susan (9/5): Fantastic short stay in a homely retreat - We made a very last minute booking at Friends of Mclarenvale. Peter the host went out of his way to have everything ready for us and was there to welcome us with his gorgeous Border Collie. He had also generously stocked the fridge with breakfast supplies and other goodies and treats. The house was perfect for a short stay, and the location perfect for exploring the area. It was also really reasonably priced. Having a couple of hot plates for cooking (and a few extra microwave dishes) would have been useful. Otherwise the small kitchen has everything you need including a pod coffee machine snd microwave.
- Terie (9/5): Relaxed b&b left to do our own thing. Peter and Pepe the dog very friendly - Fully stocked fridge for cooked breakfasts and fruit. Warm and comfy with a nice big deck to enjoy. Close to majority of wineries and McLaren centre. Peter is a long time resident and could recommend many places to visit
- Kerrie (10/5): The perfect home away from home - The owner Peter was extremely friendly. The fridge was stocked with breakfast foods and nibbles, he has thought of everything you would want. It was very comfortable and clean. Nothing, it was perfect.
- Janette (9/5): Fabulous and generous host, Peter’s BnB is quaint, comfortable and a very comfortable Stay. - Breakfast supplies were super generous and fresh. Yoghurts, cereals, great bread, tomatoes, mushrooms, bacon. Beds comfortable and with electric blankets! Lovely touches of generosity such as Dip and Bikkies for a snack. Really wonderful and great value.
- Kerry (10/5): Very comfortable stay - Thank you to Peter & Pepe for your hospitality.
Lovely quite location, nice to hear the birds chirping in the morning. Everything we needed was provided; and the delicious breakfast goodies were terrific. Close by to lots of wineries and a short drive into the main town. NA
- Corinne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kat (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rayanne (10/5): Exceptional - The property was cosy, comforting and great value for money. Perfectly situated and very peaceful.
- Jakub (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elle (8/5): Very good -
- Brian (9/5): We can thoughly recommend this accomodation for its proximity to wineries, bush resrves and town. - This spacious accomodation had everything we needed for our 2 day stay. The host, Peter, communicated instructions well. We were warmly greeted by Pepe, a very friendly dog. The fridge was very well stocked with fresh fruit etc and breakfast items for a big cookup. Peter obliged by driving us to and from our winery of choice for lunch. There were many birds about and readily observed from a shady balcony.
- Mary (10/5): Great location. Great host. - Peter was a great host and made us feel very welcome. He was super helpful with suggestions of places to visit.
The breakfast was varied and substantial and delicious.
Pepe the dog was delightful and happy to have pats when offered.
The accommodation was very comfortable with a great covered outside deck. We had an excellent time. Thank you.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brooke (10/5): Relaxing and homely - It was cute, clean, homely and everything we needed was there. Host was amazing and accomodating and his fur baby made our day!
- Joshua (10/5): Best holiday stay we have had. - The owner was the perfect host. He provided for every convenience. The breakfast was better than we had hoped for. In general it was one of the best and relaxing stays we have had. Nothin could be improved on.
- Bindesh (9/5): Great location and good host. - Great location for exploring McLaren Vale. Beaches are not too far either. Great host who provided good breakfast choices (self cook). We didn’t mind, but some people may not like the noises in the dark when wind is blowing through the trees.
- Dean (4/5): Overnight stays only advised - Beautiful scenery, great location tidy and affordable. We had our son and his friends visiting for a BBQ and new year, they were only there for 10 minutes when the owner stormed over, told us our son and his friend weren't welcome, he told us they couldn't be there and he then floated around making us all feel so uncomfortable that the boys felt they had to leave. They were 13 and 14 year old kids, it was a bit creepy because he would be extremely nice around my daughters and wife, and very polite on the first night, for the following 2 days he made his presence known and gave off very uncomfortable vibes. We have a feeling he went through our property when we weren't there but had no evidence.
We ended up missing new years and in bed by 8pm.
I'd recommend overnight stays only
- Paul (9/5): Superb - Peter is a kind and welcoming host. Very generous with the provisions. Beautiful place and well located for winery visits. Pepe the dog is a delightful and very friendly addition, sleepily guarding the front door.
- Leslie (7/5): Friends at McLaren Vale is a comfy country getaway 😊 - Great location, with a friendly welcome from Pepe the dog. Generous provisions for a yummy breakfast cook up. Shared use of main kitchen and lounge is an option, but we didn’t use, and our privacy was respected.
Peter’s recommendations for places to visit were on point. Nothing
- Leanne (10/5): Great spot to explore McLaren vale and surrounding wineries, distilleries, beaches and restaurants - Great location, close to everything!Friendly host Peter and pup Pepe made us welcome. Comfortable space with excellent breakfast goodies, and a large deck overlooking bush and garden.
Highly recommend Nothing
- O'callaghan (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the setting really peaceful and private. Peter was very welcoming and helpful and friendly. Pepe the dog was beautiful. All the supplies were ideal and high quality..It was a lovely stay!
- Lorraine (10/5): Lovely place to stay in the heart of McLaren Vale - 10 out 10! - Lovely comfortable accommodation in a beautiful bushy setting. Very generous breakfast provisions and gorgeous outdoor dining spot on the verandah to enjoy breakfast & BBQ dinner. Well set up for guests - with everything you could possibly need including comfy furniture, kitchen utensils and a well stocked bookcase.
Peter was a very warm & welcoming host with lots of great tips and advice about nearby things to do and visit. Pepe the dog an added bonus - lovely gentle natured and well behaved dog. Highly recommend and we are looking forward to visiting again 😊 Nothing - everything was perfect
- Cheralee (10/5): Fabulous location, well appointed and great value for money. - This is a lovely place to stay. Quiet and well appointed. Peter, our host, went out of his way to make sure breakfast and a wide array of snacks were available for us. The property is in a gorgeous location with a generous outdoor deck. Peter even drove us to our wedding, which was exceedingly generous of him and offered to help find our way home if we were stuck. Fully recommend this as a wonderful place to stay. We are looking to return in the future with our children to tackle the many bike paths and local sites available. We also adored Peppy the border collie, friendly dog with a love of humans and pats. Nothing!
- Sharryn (10/5): it was great loved the location, walking distance to the wineries :) - best location cant wait to get back there.
- Skye (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mel (10/5): Bestie getaway - Cool, little place for a best friend getaway.
Peter was a great host, breakfast and nibbles were great, and the electric blankets and heaters worked amazing.
Pepe the dog was so cute, friendly and really well behaved.
We will be back!
- Sjanie (10/5): Overall very relaxing, and a nice & central location. - I liked the dog Peppe, she was friendly and the trees and natural bushland surroundings. The beds were a bit too firm for myself and my friend, who is in the bed selling business. My friend commented on how a comfortable bed is always one of the most important things when you are sleeping away from home.
- Marylouise (10/5): Super friendly and comfortable - Every effort was made to make us feel comfortable , excellent supply of breakfast and nibbles. Heaters were on when we arrived so the place was nice and warm. Pepe the boarder collie was a super welcoming party
- Barbara (8/5): Very good -
- Melissa (10/5): Exceptional - Thanks Peter for your amazing hospitality.
The breakfast spread was amazing!!!
All the best with Camino.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
- Maria (10/5): Highly recommend this beautiful property, wonderful owner and excellent breakfast supplied. - I can't rate this BnB highly enough! The property exceeded my expections for a little country BnB. Very well kept and comfortable bedrooms and the owner was so incredibly helpful and generous with helping us navigate McLaren Vale while we had car troubles. Excellent breakfast supplied so we could enjoy a decent coffee and hot brekkie each morning and they even provided lactose free oat milk on request. We look forward to booking here again next time we're in McLaren Vale!

- Mark928 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pamela (9/5): It was great. We enjoyed the whole experience - we didn't have the breakfast because when I'm on holiday I like to not prepare meals and I like to support local businesses.
The setting at Friends was lovely and not too far from town. Would happily recommend it to others. No dislikes as we really only use it to relax at night and sleep
- Nicole (10/5): Quiet, enjoyable and peaceful. - Location was perfect. Close to amenities, but also out of the way and quiet. Very comfortable and breakfast was above and beyond what we needed. Nothing.
- A_oren (10/5): very good place in the middle of McLaren vale for wines tastings - stayed for 3 nights, and got breakfast groceries for 6 nights... did not eat all... covered car park was great, quiet place. lots of storage places. air con is a central air con, but operated within the owners flat, so could not set the temp. however, it was quite ok most of the day. no gas stove, just an electric pan, works ok. not a "real" kitchen to cook. bed, like most in Australia - was soft to medium mattress.
- Vivian (10/5): Relaxing stay - Great bnb .On our arrival was greeted by Pepe the border collie. Peter the owner lives on site and is friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Location is perfect with some wineries in walking distance.
Accommodation is clean and comfortable and the fridge is loaded with heaps of goodies to make an excellent breakfast . Our dog loved roaming on the deck and the vast bush yard ( property is on 2 acres) NA

- Gaelenehr (8/5): A quiet and relaxing stay. Very conveniently located and pet friendly an absolute bonus. - Breakfast was superb. Cooking facilities could be improved e.g. microwave dish; Small electric cook top. We don't usually BBQ as I am fish only and lots of vegies. A frittata made in the small electric frypan with some of the provisions was delicious though.
