Guest Reviews
- La Duchess Susanne (10/5): - Marieke is de beste gastvrouw ever! Niets
- Kara (9/5): Wonderful location, comfortable room and kind hosts! - Overall the room was very nice and spacious, comfortable bed and bathroom. Easy to find, and the location is great because you can get to things in the city easily but you can also get away from the crowds! The hosts were amazing and made the stay really enjoyable, they could not have kinder! The stairs were not great however they were expected given that it’s in the Netherlands!
- Rebecca (10/5): Lovely x - This a a very pretty suite, the location is great and Marieka was the perfect host
- Simone (10/5): Thank you to our hosts, they answered all our questions and made us feel very welcome. They also gave us tips and tricks - Great quiet location, beautiful room and space, bathroom was modern and large for an ensuite!

- aoife (8/5): Cosy room in quiet area - Quiet location and near tram stop to get the no.2 tram into the city. 15 minutes walk to museum quarter and a few minutes from Vondelpark. The hosts are really lovely and welcoming. The bed is comfortable with a nice cosy down duvet. The shower is excellent-good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The fridge in the room is a great amenity but it wasn't plugged in when we arrived so had to do that ourselves. Plenty of coffee pods but could use more tea options and maybe some milk sachets. Plenty of hangers in the wardrobe and shelves for clothes. And lots of hooks to hang coats etc. A few people had said the room was cold but we found it a bit too warm. And the window seemed to be stuck so couldn't get fresh air in. The pillows were a bit too firm for me but that's a personal preference...I like soft, squishy pillows. The place is clean but a bit dusty and could do with a bit of freshening up. The stairs are insanely steep but its kind of a novelty as you're staying in traditional Amsterdam house ! But definitely don't stay here if you have mobility issues (or vertigo!). The room felt smaller than how the pictures show it but that happens a lot.

- Deirdre (4/5): - Location Wasnt clean. Dusty. Poor bedding. Bad lighting & was freezing cold. No heating on . I went to bed with my clothes on. I xomplained the next day * they then switched heat on.
- Nicole (10/5): -
- Nicole (10/5): Amazing place to stay and very beautiful area. - Lovely, cozy place with an amazing bed. The stairs are really steep so if you have a checked luggage it’s a bit of a struggle.
- Carolyn (10/5): Beautiful room in a great location! - Incredible location right on the edge of Vondelpark and on the tram line; very clean and comfortable; friendly hosts Not necessarily bad but beware that there is a steep staircase leading up to the room.
- Jack (8/5): -

- Fausta (10/5): Ottimo soggiorno!
- Brandon (9/5): A great spot if you want somewhere quiet that is just outside the central area. - The room is a nice size and well appointed with a sitting area and ensuite. The location is right next to Vondelpark, which we loved walking through each morning, and it's right off the 2 tram (about a 20 min trip into the central area). Marieke was quick to respond to questions or any needs we had, and offered to change the sheets partway through our 5-night stay. Definitely recommended! The only negative is walking up the two flights of very narrow stairs. Not such an issue once you're settled in, but it wasn't pleasant when carrying our suitcases up and down.
- Siemen (10/5): - Toplocatie, zeer mooie kamer en zeer gastvrij.
- Victoria (10/5): Very nice stay, with a lovely host. Location is so great next to the park and not too far from center. Very clean modern - Such a lovely apartment, very good location, clean, has everything you need, and very modern. Hosts are also very wonderful and provide with useful reminders and information. The stairs are difficult however this is normal for Amsterdam so only may be issue with elderly. Also the walks are not fully soundproof and can hear talking.
- Parvathy (8/5): Very good -
- Chaitanya (9/5): Superb -
- Гавриил (10/5): Exceptional - Big comfortable clean apartment in a calm district, perfect Slightly bad soundproofing
- Jennifer (10/5): Lovely 5 night stay close to transport and very peaceful. - We had a wonderful 5 nights at this location. Very spacious and clean and the bed was very comfortable with a small sitting area looking over treetops. Very comfortable - we had a lovely stay! Not a thing!
- Mulate (6/5): It was ok if you stay during summer time - the room was clean, location is good The room was very cold in winter, and you can’t control the heater, if you want to be warm you have to ask the landlord to turn on the heater, unfortunately, they won’t do it as long as they feel warm in their room. We couldn’t take shower just because it was so cold
- Mikhail (10/5): Majestic and peaceful plus the owners are sweet people and accomidating. Will definetly come back again. Thank you! - Looked like you lived in a historic apartment. Looked very authentic and majestic.
- Tracy (9/5): Loved my host. Caring and attentive in ensuring I had a comfortable stay. -
- Gabrielle (9/5): Amazing time in Amsterdam! Thanks - We met the host and she's so nice! We loved the light in the room, the bed was very comfy as well as the area to take breakfast! We had some good recommandations from the host! We had no problem with it but it's good to know that the stairs are very steep (we knew it before booking)
- Kobus (7/5): Will stay there again especially for shorter stays where we don’t need packing space. Helpful host that made plan with a - Great location. Helpful and friendly hosts, clean linen midway through our stay, great bed mattress.
Coffee machine and fridge was a life saver for milk and breakfast meal. - had no shelf space for non hanging clothes. Had to unpack books from book shelf to unpack suitcases.
- room is a bit cluttered with lots of furniture not useable by guest ( locked) but little space for the 3 large suite cases and non hanging clothes.
- Very steep staircase which could be a problem for elderly people with luggage .
- Also would like to have a broom or mop to clean the floor that gets dirty during week long stay.
- Needed to hang up washing somewhere during week stay .
- Peter (7/5): Elegant room with en-suite in private apartment - Location and furnishings. Very steep and long stairs to room. It was not clear that this was a room in a private apartment. Stairs do not have an automatically activated light at the top when going out. Manual switch is half was down landing. No TV provided.
- Colleen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anna (8/5): Fair - Nice location, close to the old town, nice bed, fresh linen, overall good impression. To get to the apartment you need to climb really narrow and steep stairs. Some hooks for towels in the bathroom would be necessary to add. No cutlery, just couple random spoons.
- Susan (8/5): Extremely steep stairs to lovely apartment in great neighbourhood, excellent location. - Extremely steep stairs with narrow treads!! - a quite significant challenge if you have suitcases larger than cabin luggage (ours were 17kg). The room itself is spacious, clean and tidy with a comfortable bed and lovely decor. The location is ideal with plenty of cafes, bars & restaurants nearby. Would suit anyone with only minimal luggage very well. Only the stairs which were the steepest I've ever had to negotiate!! The fridge didn't work as well as expected but the host was unaware & intends to check on it. Everything else was great & I'd recommend it to anyone with just cabin-size luggage.
- Ronald (8/5): Very nice room in good location - We really liked the room! It was big, nice and clean! The stairs up to the apartment were seriously the steepest ones I have ever seen in my whole life. While this is not really a problem for myself, I assume that it might be for some people...
The room is within the apartment of the landlords (it has its own bathroom) and of course they come and go as they please.
This is not really a problem but it just feels different to renting a whole apartment without anybody else in it.
- Lara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mateusz (10/5): Very nice place to stay over the weekend - Very nice host, very helpful
Great location
Nice and cosy apartment Nothing
- Kerry (9/5): Ideally located, comfy, quirky place to stay - Really quirky, in a fantastic location. Very comfy bed, nice hot shower, lots of books to read through. Very nice hosts who were very helpful and accommodating. The stairs up to the flat are pretty precarious but that can’t be helped as it’s typical of those properties! We only had small bags so they weren’t too difficult to navigate. The bathroom could do with somewhere to hang up your towels.
- Chiara (7/5): Not worth it unfortunately, but very nice area - Close to centre A bit dirt and cluttered, dust on the surfaces, hairs in toilet mat and stains on bed sheets
- Ahmad (8/5): Very good - Lovely place
- Laurie (4/5): We couldn’t stay there due to that. It also lacked in privacy. We had to walk around in the rain and find another hotel. - Location I could not stay there due to the steepness and narrowness of the stairs. It was dark, too
- Olivia (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful accommodation close to Vondelpark with easy access to the tram. The centre of Amsterdam is accessible within 20 minutes. The host went out of her way to greet us and even gave us a bottle of wine which was a lovely touch! Thank you for having us in your lovely home. Nothing - everything was great
- Brooke (9/5): Superb -
- Tural (9/5): nearly everything was fine -
- Ekaterina (5/5): Passable - Good location It's actually a room in an apartment with its own bathroom (and it has no hooks for towels so be prepared they always will stay wet). Landlords live in the next room. Apartment is cozy but a bit shabby. It's very hard to close the windows if they're opened (since they're very old) and heating is only being turned on by request for a few hours, so most of the time it's pretty cold in the room. The steps on the stairs are pretty narrow which could be a challenge for travelers with heavy luggage. Location is great though, 5 minutes on a tram to the city centre and beautiful park located nearby.
- Sarah (1/5): Cold🥶 - The apartment was stylish and furnished very nice. It had a great view on the old Amsterdam houses and the bed was very comfortable. Overall is a great place to stay. The owner was a lady whom did not welcome us as a real host would do. As soon as she saw us with a 1 year old baby she thought about leaving us at the door. She was very unhappy with that. If you don’t want babies in your house then just say it in the description of the house rules. As you should have made it clear that the place is a shared bedroom apartment. You live in the next room, If we had known that we wouldn’t have booked it in the first place so both of us would be happy. During the night doors would be closing hard and would wake us up, the people that lived upstairs made a lot of noise by running at 2 am or whatever they did. Very annoying, but this wasn’t the owner’s fault as they cannot control what others do, what they can control though is the temperature of the room, the lady controls the temperature of the room which i paid for more than 500€. So if Marika decided not to turn on the heating than we would just freeze in those cold temperatures of Amsterdam. First day we asked her to turn it on but she was in denial saying that in here we call these normal temperatures and her husband doesn’t like to raise it. The next day she just decided to not respond to our text. The window of the room wasn’t very isolated so the wind could go in and made the temperature very cold. That simple thing ruined our stay. We were cold all the time and didn’t enjoy much of that nice apartment. The floor was very dirty, we found hair everywhere and used tissues under the bed.
- Hannah (10/5): Lovely room in a great part of Amsterdam! - Lovely room! Really comfortable and clean with a very easy check in. Great location and Marieke was a really helpful and responsive host.
- David (8/5): Very good - Very comfortable large bed. Quick and very welcoming communication with Mareike.
Keep in mind that this is not a hotel but a little room in an apartment which however has a privat bathroom attached to it and comes with a private key. You have to take rather steep stairs to get up to the apartment, this however is typical for a lot of Dutch houses.
- Irina (8/5): Very good -
- Jessica (9/5): Lovely stay in a perfect location! - The location was perfect. Lots of lovely restaurants, cafes and bars in a short walking distance. Perfect for a couple. The room was spacious and clean and the bed comfy! Our host even left us a bottle of wine. Would stay again! Very steep stairs to get up, so hard with luggage but it’s the style of the property and nothing you can do about that. Would just avoid if you find stairs hard.
- Nicola (8/5): Very good - The location was great , near the park and museums and near to bars , restaurants and a lovely food shop .
- Archbold (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicolas (9/5): Superb - Place is ok. Should be clearer thats its a BnB. Not a hotel. Very steep steps. Expensive in my opinion.
- Viktor (9/5): Superb -
- Luis (10/5): Would certainly return. - Very friendly stay. Great location near the park and easy to get to the city center. A quiet street with restaurants and grocery stores nearby.
- Patrycja (10/5): Excellent! Marieke is truly great host! We will be back! - Fantastic location close to all my favourite places. Tram 2 will take you all the way to centraal and everything else you wanna see. The neighbourhood is very good, lots of cafes and places to have a spot of lunch or a nice cocktail. It’s busy enough but without feeling like it’s too much, great area for chilled holiday. The house is traditional Dutch home, so if you’re first timer be aware of the steep staircase. This isn’t new to me but I know it could be a shock if you’ve never seen it. The building is so beautiful and I love the architecture, it is situated near Vondelpark, which is such amazing area to stay in Amsterdam, you can see the street view in my photo, it is so beautiful.
The room was beautiful and very light, it was quiet and very comfortable, decor was nice and we felt it had a soul! Marieke was so lovely, she provided some delicious pastries on our first morning and kept it touch with us during our stay, she made sure we had enjoyed our little holiday. We have met her and she was very helpful with recommendations on interesting things to do and places to go, it was great to discover few new things. She even walked with us to the bus stop on the morning we left, which was lovely. We want to say big thank you for everything! Our stay was perfect! Nothing at all, it was all perfect.
- Katja (10/5): Very charming place! - Very charming place! Host Marieke is very friendly and helps with any questions or issues you might have. The location is great, right next to lovely Vondelpark with some nice places to eat around the corner and good tram connections for the city centre. I can highly recommend it!
- Diva (9/5): Superb -
- Globalnavigator (9/5): Just what you want - Wonderful location, hosts and bathroom. Quiet neighborhood with lots of dining choices and a small supermarket. Easy tram ride to center. Bed is comfortable and room is nice. Owner was very helpful in answering our questions. Fridge and coffee in the room are nice as was the breakfast the first morning. As this is in a home, the owner still has some large pieces of furniture that take up space that would be better as a place to put luggage. Like all Dutch houses, the staircase is very steep! The owners are however very helpful in assisting. As we were traveling for the weeks without laundry, our bags were bigger than average I'm sure. With carry on sized luggage this room would be perfect.
- James (9/5): A pleasant apartment that was very easy to get to and from Central station for our short stay in Amsterdam. - Convenient location and comfortable room. Nothing
- Anna (8/5): Very good - Lovely welcome by Marieke, she’s very nice and available (got us fresh pastries in the mornings!). Location is really good, nice neighbourhood close to the museums. The apartment is bright and nicely decorated with clean and new bathroom. Bed very comfortable. Didn’t expect the stairs to be so steep. I was with my 65 yrs old mum and that was a bit of dummer… also the shelves were all taken by objects and decorations - some available space would have been useful.
- Charles (8/5): A great place to sample a more typical Amsterdam residence with a super friendly host. - The host is very friendly, helpful and good to chat to. The room is average size but the bed is very large and comfortable. Bathroom fine. Everything clean. Location for us was excellent - quiet, a little out of the centre by tram, near Vondelpark for walking, nice breakfast places nearby. Self check-in arrangements are fine in principle but there was a slight slip-up over the key. It didn’t spoil our stay as the host responded quickly. It is important to note that many traditional Amsterdam houses have long, steep staircases and no lift. Older guests or those with heavy baggage might consider a different choice but we managed fine!
- Elena (9/5): Superb -
- Roman (10/5): Wonderful place with wonderful owner ) It was absolutely amazing! -
- Adrian (8/5): Very good -
- Clare (10/5): Clean, comfortable and central stay! - Very central and comfortable accomodation. Very easy check in and also very clean room. Marieke was a very friendly and attentive host, providing us with fresh croissants from the bakery and also being extremely welcoming. Great, quiet area of Amsterdam but still so close to the centre of the city. Will stay again !
- Greyeyes (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jason (8/5): Very good -
- Lisa (7/5): A well located cozy private self contained room within the host’s apartment (the host and another occupant is also stayi - Location. Just around the corner from the public transport into city centre and also Schiphol airport. It is near enough to walk to the museums and of course you are near Vondelpark. Nearby there are very nice restaurants and shops. The stairs! The apartment is on the 1st floor but there are about 38 steep steps up and the steps are very difficult with bags. Luckily when I arrived, the cleaner was there and she helped me and I arranged with the host for someone to help me when I left. Anyone with slight mobility will also struggle even without bags.
- Daniel (7/5): Nice place for a long stay in a quiet residential neighborhood. Not ideal for a layover. - Nice place in a residential area away from all the noise/tourists/commercial areas. Pin is not door code. Door code should be delivered upon booking for anyone that won't have internet while traveling.
- Diana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrea (7/5): comfortable, value for money stay - room clean, area lovely but quite a walk to the centre. host bought us croissants. a comfortable, value for money stay i wasn’t aware that the room and bathroom were (although private), part of someone’s house. this wasn’t a problem but could be made clearer
- Björn (9/5): Superb -
- Aude (7/5): Good -
- Sydney (4/5): Disappointing - Location Very very steep stairs, no air con and towels provided were the size of face washers!
If you are elderly, be careful booking this place. Coming from Australia we did not know of the entrance stairs and being typical of these types of terraced apartments.
- Ibrahim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gruis (7/5): Good -
- Terry (8/5): Very good - Marieke was wonderful, brought us a great breakfast. we loved the neighborhood—not touristy and very nice. The 37 stairs were steep, but typical for Amsterdam.
