Guest Reviews

- Kerianne (10/5): - The property is beautiful, the small waterfall in the backyard, the quiet river a 5 minute walk up the road, the tranquility.... this place is a gem. I have been here before and we will be back again. The new owner is wonderful and extremely accommodating.
Rien
- Pierre (9/5): - Wow!! The owner Bridgitte told us about frogs at night that we could see. It was amazing! Above expectations ! Highly recommend this place!
- Lisa (8/5): -
- Carlo (4/5): -
- Daniel (8/5): -
- Victoria (10/5): - El personal fue muy amable. Nada.
- JACQUES (9/5): Perfect location for a short stay. - Rustic, comfortable, clean, wonderful location by a river, surrounded by nature. Lisa looks after the property well and is excellent company. Nothing.
- Janine (10/5): -
- Karine (8/5): -
- Sara (7/5): Nice stay in a convenient location. - Nice location, friendly owner. Good breakfast. Rustic. Suicide shower. It was nice for one night and a good location for a stopover between San Jose and the Caribbean coast.
- Richard (7/5): Great stop over location - Couple of nice wooden huts in a safe sheltered location. Perfect for us as a stop over on the way to tortuguero to break our journey up. Had a sloth in the trees & plenty of interesting spots around the ponds.
- Dafne (10/5): A night in the forest - If you like the idea of sleeping in the forest, this is for you! The cabins are rustic but clean, beds super comfy and there are no glasses on the windows, just nets - so you can let the river and nature sounds lull you to sleep. You may need a blanket! The host is very nice, we loved her dog too! Amazing little tropical garden to explore, especially at night! A little too close to the road so the odd traffic noise breaks the spell.
- Leonor (9/5): Very special and unique! - It's a mini paradise enclosure with a few bungalows, a communal living/eating area, with a creek at the bottom that rocks you to sleep. We were a group of 6 across the ages of 11,14, 35 and 48-year olds and had the place to ourselves and felt like an extended part of the family. It's conveniently located between San Jose and La Pavona to break the journey to Tortuguero and only a 5min detour from the main road. It was lovely to meet and chat to Lisa, the Canadian owner. We liked everything

- Tuvik (10/5): Beautiful rustic B&B - This was an absolutely lovely place for our first night in Costa Rica!
Charming little place by the river, with a small but beautiful garden. We were delighted to see the red eyed tree frogs in the garden, and their eggs hanging from a leaf above the pond. The garden and the whole grounds are full of beautiful flowers and plants and the place has a feel of a piece of paradise. Our hostess was super nice. Breakfast was excellent albeit somewhat on the smallish size. The view in the morning, when we discovered that our cabins are right on the cliff overlooking the river - was stunning!
The cabins are rustic, but the sheets were clean and there was warm-to-hot water (depending on the strength of the flow).
All in all highly recommended! Would have been nice to provide shampoo and, who knows, maybe even conditioner. Be sure to take headlamps, because the garden isn't lit at night (we actually liked it that way, but some may not).
- Chad (8/5): Very good -
- Luke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steven (10/5): I would love to come back as many times as I can - Everything was great! If u are looking for a place to stay in surrounded by nature and peace this is the right spot!!! N/A
- Nienke (9/5): Love this place! - One of our best stays while traveling CR for 5 weeks (even came back at the end). Stayed here for 3 nights. Super friendly staff who shared their story about the adventure of moving to CR and finding out life. Inspiration for our own dreams in the future.
Cabins are simple but everything you need. Real feeling of being in CR. There are no windows between you and outside, only the insect screen. Wow that gives such a great feeling of being connected with nature! The view is incredible and the location gives the opportunity to swim in a natural pool (ofcourse when weather is allowing you). Beautiful garden, great path to the lodge. Different bird species and other wildlife!
- Kim (8/5): Very good - You'll find your cabin in a beautiful garden naar the Rivera. Everything you need is provided for. It's quite near the highway but far enough to not be bothered by it. Instead you'll sleep with the easing noises of the jungle. Have a lovely breakfast and take a walk down the property befor you hit the road again.
- Cannon (10/5): Beautiful property with nice hosts - We had a great time staying in the little cabins here. Beautiful jungle, and waterfalls all around. The owners are very nice and helpful. I would love to come back.
- Stephanie (10/5): The hosts were spectacular and went above and beyond to be helpful and understanding! - The breakfast was timely, coffee excellent. Nada!
- Sandra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicolay (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dennis (10/5): Was a great place for a one night stop! Comfortable, clean and great people! - Lots of lightning bugs!!
- Linda (9/5): Wonderful - Beautiful garden, lovely people. They go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. It’s basic but good for us. Good value for the price you pay.
- Aneta (9/5): Superb - Friendly and nice owners, very helpful. Location of the cabin with a porch to sit at "in the jungle' so you can see the river below and animals when lucky, two chairs and a table. Large bedroom with big bathroom. No windows, just anti-mosquito nets with curtains. Delicious breakfast - eggs with toasts and fruit salad, tea/coffee. Nowhere to dry your clothes - only the porch handles.
- Piotr (10/5): Exceptional - Best location ever. Jungle, river, waterfall. Heal for your soul. Sound of birds, water. Katharsis
- Nina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional - We had a great stay at this Lodge. Lisa and her Husband are amazing and friendly hosts. The view from the lodge was amazing and the lodge was very clean and neat. We would always come back :)
- Jan-frens (7/5): Good - Great location in the middle of the forest. The hosts are very friendly and know a lot about the place and its animals! Adam took us down to the river but we could not swim because of the rain. Cabins are basic but fit the environment. Beds need replacement
- Rafal (8/5): Very good -
- Gordon (10/5): Really relaxing - A little bit of tranquility Everything was super. Lisa went above and beyond
- Katharina (9/5): Great value for money and amazing location! - - outstanding location right in the rainforest, with a cute waterfall and hiking trail to a beautiful river with a bathing place
- beautiful amenities with a huge variety of plants
- super nice hosts with a cute dog that accompanies you during the walk to the river
- every guest has their own little wooden house with a verandah, you can spend your time in total privacy.
- the facilities are quite simple, but it's a great value for money regarding how cheap the stay is. Just a little thing but the house you stay in is not perfectly clean, as the doormats are quite dusty and there can be little animals like bats in the room
- Victoria (10/5): Magical property on the Rio Blanco, the stay restored my soul. - One of a kind! Absolutely stunning property on the Rio Blanco; a restorative immersion in nature with the healing sounds of the birds & the river. Wonderful hosts, & a delicious breakfast with excellent coffee every morning. I reached the property by bus & a short Uber ride. I stayed 4 nights & did not want to leave! This is the real Pura Vida!
- Nimish (8/5): Very good -
- On (10/5): Exceptional - Everything! Great stay
- Kees (8/5): Very good - Super Nice people
- Manda (8/5): Lovely green Eco-lodge on a clean river; Great, friendly hosts! - As someone who spent all her summers in the 80's in the Guapiles area, swimming in the clear cold rivers and enjoying exotic birds all around me, it was a lovely nostalgic return to that vibe. The place is situated in a beautiful area and the owners are very nice expats from Canada. They are very conversational and love to talk! We also loved their playful dog Goober, who came along with us for a hike. We headed straight down to the trail to the river for an invigorating dunk in a waterfall and a river swim during rainy season -- be careful in the currents, and watch out for flash floods! The location on the Rio Blanco is really special. The cabins are simple with screens only (no glass windows, which is commonly the case for this area), and the bed was very comfortable. Some people might balk at finding geckos / lizards or large lovely moths in their room, but for us it was all part of being in Costa Rica. I didn't mind too much, but the photos on Booking.com aren't the rooms they had available for us... it seems those "better" cabins were being renovated (?) and so we were a little surprised by the rather spartan room we were offered. Again, I didn't mind too much, but it's nice to know what you're getting when you book the room. Also we felt the breakfast, while convenient, could be improved upon: you get only a teaspoon of rationed marmalade with your toast, and they serve (maybe instant?) coffee with powdered creamer?? This is Costa Rica, a coffee country -- please do it right! In any case, we loved our stay and would definitely go back, knowing what it's like.
- Bridges (8/5): Rustic Nature - The nature! Beautiful location, plants, and area. The trail out back is great, would love to come back when the bridge is finished. Loved the rustic feel. The porch with chairs by nature was great too. The owners were very friendly as well. Great to meet them. Overall a really great hidden gem. Ants in the bed, I heard that's common for Costa Rica so nothing against the place. They relocated us and no more issues. Appreciate it a lot! Sheets seemed a little old. Shower was low pressure. Minor things really.
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Sue (8/5): Very good -
- Allison (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amy (9/5): Garden oasis with incredible hospitality, it was a wonderful first-night stay. - Breath-taking beauty in the lush gardens with the sounds of the river in the backgroud, Herbie's gracious hospitality was a perfect introduction to our Costa Rican vacation. The cabin was rustic and comfortable, breakfast was delicious and filling. Herbie's recommendations for restaurants and timing of schedule logistics was very helpful. He has extensive knowledge of the area. We loved our stay at Casa Rio Blanco. We drove by the entrance the first time, but quickly realized our mistake. Herbie helps with backing out of the limited-visibility driveway.
- Kenneth (7/5): Good -
- Klaus (9/5): Superb -
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robin (10/5): Wonderful! - Our host was great. Place was very clean. Beautiful safe surroundings. Cabin spacious and comfortable. He made us supper ($15 pp extra) and it was excellent. Went to store to buy beer ($3 each) to accommodate us. Breakfast (included in price) was wonderful. Eggs, toast and fresh fruit. Met some very nice travelers. Nothing, it was perfect
- Raquel (8/5): Very good - Lugar perfecto para desconectar en la naturaleza.
- Sarah (10/5): The best place we stayed at with little kids (we stayed in CR 3.5 weeks) - Extremely comfortable beds, accomodating owner, magical sounds of the forest, private river... River/cliffs makes it harder for parents to watch the kids
- Tori (10/5): Exceptional - Great location and beautiful property on our way to Tortuguero! Herbie was such a great host. Traveled with four boys who loved it. Loved the location, the cabins, the breakfast, the animals (which Herbie made sure to let us know where they were and what they sounded like) swimming in the swimming holes, the sound of nature around you at night, and a kind and generous host!

Make sure to check our Bar Marilyn up the road as well as an amazing tilapia restaurant (only open weekends)! We loved it here! Nothing
- Christina (10/5): Exceptional - This place is truly a jungle garden oasis. Listening to the Rio Blanco river as you sleep was the favorite part of my stay. I would definitely refer anyone who wants a nice reprieve away from the hustle n bustle of life to visit Casa Rio Blanco Eco Friendly B & B.
Herbie was available at any time and also awesome to talk to. He is a wealth of knowledge in regards to the property as well as the surrounding areas.

- Christine (9/5): Superb - Very rustic, pretty little Cabñas with a view over the river. Nature is surrounding (it's a bit off the path, so a car is really helpful).
The owner Herbie takes very good care of you and you should really try his self-cooked meals. -

- Christoph (10/5): Exceptional - Herbie the owner made us feel very welcome and was very accomodating and friendly.
- Alison (9/5): Excellent jungle/ river side stay. Nature all around, and wonderful host - The location beautiful. So very peaceful, and totally surrounded by nature. The breakfast was lovely and the perfect amount to start the day. Herbie was so very helpful , with info on his local are, as well as an excellent source of information, on all things Costa Rican, which was great for us, as we are in process of setting up life in CR. He is also a great cook, so we ate both nights we stayed, with him Mmmmmmmm! See you again for sure ...Ali, and Scott

- Selene (10/5): Exceptional - We only had a night at casa rio blanco but it was amazing. The cabin was beautiful, with very beautiful nature around it for hiking. The cabin itself was very comfortable with a very large and comfy bed! The breakfast was also delicious and Herbie was a very kind and accommodating host giving us great dessert based tips for the next leg of our journey! Our only regret was not having more time there! It was a very positive experience! Everything was great!
