Guest Reviews
- Bickerdike (10/5): Charming. - Friendly, welcoming, kind. A treat to visit this unique guesthouse with charming owner.
- ERIC (10/5): -
- Susan (8/5): -
- Hugh (10/5): -
- Alan (8/5): We were made to feel very welcome. The breakfast was fantastic and the host was present to chat with us. - We have stayed here before. The property is very quirky, in an excellent position and in bus routes.
- JOHN (10/5): A house of curiosities and treasures. - The host and the housekeeper, the location , free parking, right on the river, public transport easy to get to.
Great for walking along the Thames we walked to Kew Gardens well worth a visit.
The breakfast was a delight but no fried food here, all fresh food.
If you like the Arts and quintessential things and get the chance to talk and have a drink with the host you will be amazed at the life this man has led.
We could go on, for us it was the perfect find.
We wish Chris and housekeeper Ellen all the very best. That we only had a short stay.
- alexis (8/5): -
- Justine (10/5): For something completely different 🤗 - Perfect location for our plans in Chiswick. Lovely characterful house with great views of the river and parking in the drive. Our host Chris was a true gentleman; kind and interesting to chat to.
I would recommend to anyone wanting a different type of stay to a hotel as this magical home is truly special.
- Barbara (5/5): Great view of the Thames - Close to the river and our daughter The room was essentially someone’s spare room crammed with books and knickknacks… as was the rest of the house. The breakfasts were delicious.
- Joyce (10/5): Very comfortable location beautiful owner and staff lovely. - Very nice and near where we wanted. Difficult to understand the location with regard to the restrictions and avoid a fine.
- Raine (8/5): We had a lovely stay, was welcomed and looked after superbly. Would definitely stay again. - It was clean location was great, quirky and fab. Liked everything.
- Sally (10/5): A wonderful welcome and a fabulous location - A wonderful welcome from Chris. I stayed here a year ago and enjoyed it so much I wanted to come again and show it to my friend who loved it! The rooms are so comfortable and the location is amazing; we sat for ages just enjoying the view of the river from the rooms. We had all we needed in the rooms and both slept well. We had a delicious breakfast and Elena hosted us and looked after us so well. Chris was happy for us to park the car in the drive early while we went into London. An excellent stay, thank you so much No complaints!
- Lucy (9/5): - One of the most interesting accommodations we've been at. Everything in the house tells a story about the owners' lives, and there are a lot of stories to tell. It was a pleasure to meet our host, Mr Chris.
The housekeeper, Mrs Elena, graciously provided us with a nice breakfast and great chat. (The breakfast is plentiful, just take into account that it is mostly fruit, yogurt, milk, cereals and toast.)
The house is in an excellent area of Chiswick, by the river, it has a lovely little garden and is full of character. Make sure this kind of accommodation is your cup of tea before booking, as it is a very distinctive B&B.
For us, more free space in the room would have worked better, to have more room for our stuff.
- Moore (6/5): - Breakfast was very good, the fresh fruit salad was delicious.
The location with parking was perfect for exploring London.
We received a very warm welcome upon arrival. It is a very peaceful residence.
The accommodation reminded us of staying with elderly relatives, the house was quirky and delightful.
We would definitely stay there again.
- David (10/5): Great host, great location and definitely will return again . - Peaceful location on the river, close to London but non of the hustle. Chris was a true gentleman and great host, everything we needed during our stay was there with nothing to worry about. Nothing
- ian (1/5): Unsatisfactory, I could not stay due to the lack of parking, untidy environment, health and safety. - Nothing and have requested a full refund due to missing my own daughter’s birthday celebration in Chiswick due to not having satisfactory accommodation. This is the worst experience of a booking.com reservation that I have had in ten years. On arrival a white van covered all parking slots. The front door was wide open with no sign of welcome from host. I had indicated prior that I would arrive between 3pm and 4pm, with earliest check-in cited from 2:30pm. I asked several times if I was at the right place and waited a further 15 mins. I texted the host via Booking.com but never received a response. Even now, 48 hours later host has not responded to my further messages. I entered the property it was unkept, unwelcoming and untidy with a strong smell of urine. The host was upstairs by a chair lift that covered the whole staircase and he suggested I see the room. From my perspective, it was not satisfactory and I was unhappy to stay in such an environment where health & safety, cleanliness and standards of accommodation were significantly below expectations. As a Genuis Plus client who has stayed in hundreds of booking.com accommodation, this was by far the worst and unacceptable.

- Alistair (8/5): Enjoyable stay in a quirky house full of fascinating art completed by a superb breakfast. - Everything went well. The accommodation is quirky and loaded with all sorts of interesting artefacts. The room itself was comfy and we slept well. Breakfast was a joy. The host (Chris) was there and housekeeper (Elena) - both charming people. Elena also makes superb fresh fruit salad. There was another couple staying and we shared a table laden with fruit, toast, preserves and more. Great coffee and great conversation with the other couple, Chris and Elena. Lovely view across the river from our room too. There was nothing we didn't like and we enjoyed our time. It's good if you appreciate places with lots of art, music and theatre artefacts in halls, landings and your room. Which we do! We definitely intend to go back.
- Martin (7/5): Good value for money. -
- sean (8/5): Lovely location - Its a real shame as our plans had changed at the very last minute. We are gutted we couldn't stay. We did park up and the location was fantastic. Watching the rowing in the Thames
- Paulina (9/5): - Great place if you are lookingfor a peaceful few days in London suburbs. Kew gardens 25 min walk away, close to bus stops and train if you prefer to go to the city. Breakfast was delicious and fresh every morning, very kind stuff. Beds comfortable, rooms nice with big widows and a view of the river. As I am personally not a fan of sweet breakfasts, I would ad some eggs or cheese/ham to the breakfast set.
- Ana Maria Amalia (10/5): Lovely place - Warm home with lots of character and an incredible library.
- Sonia (10/5): Home from home. - Great location. Quirky in the right way. Lovely home. Walks covered in pictures and art. Fabulous view over the Thames. Chris was very welcoming and full of fascinating stories. Good breakfast. Elena is very attentive. Good to have free parking on site. Great value overall. Nothing .
- Karan (10/5): -
- Kuramoto (10/5): One of the greatest moments - It was very cozy that I felt like staying at my grandparents’ house. Host gentleman shared a lot of his experiences. If I was forced to say, I wish wifi could be more stable and faster. If so, there’s nothing to say.
- Charles (7/5): -
- Paul (10/5): - We very much enjoyed the breakfast. A very welcome start to the day.
- Brigitte (8/5): -
- Rodenburg (8/5): idiosyncratic property full of interesting items and paintings – host very friendly. - The host was extremely friendly. The property was full of very interesting items and pictures. The bathroom was not strictly ensuite. You have to walk along a corridor. However, you have exclusive use of that.
- Rob (10/5): Quirk place in quiet location - A bit unusual and quirky Nothing
- Shaun (10/5): - An owner is very lovely.
- Binraj (10/5): - Everything there!! This place is a house of memories !! Memories of the host Chris's life itself !! We got to the library room and we instantly blended in .. Chris is an amazing human being with a big heart! I fully recommend this place if you are looking for a stay with a character, silent, peaceful place on the banks of Thames having a good human being as your host... Thank you Nothing
- Gillian (8/5): A unique and quirky stay with the healthiest breakfast and most charming host and thoughtful housekeeper. - The property was in a great location for bus transport into the Kensington area of London which we required for work purposes.
As the property was residential and decor was so personal to the host it took a couple of days to feel at home and not like an intruder, but as the owner and housekeeper were so friendly and accommodating we soon became comfortable.
The breakfast was so good, it was a real banquet of fresh fruit, yoghurts, conserves and toast. The coffee and the cup it was served in was amazing. It really was the best start to the day.
If you prefer, simplistic, spacious hotels then this is maybe not for you but if you like to embrace quirkiness its great as something a little different. Ideal for longer stays if you want to explore areas in central London as well as Kew, Chiswick and surrounding areas. Once we became familiar with transport options it became easy to commute during our 6 night stay. We stayed in both the River Room and the Library and preferred the River Room. Although the library was rich in books, knowledge, culture and very interesting it did take a while to overcome the overwhelm.
It seemed a bit chaotic for what we would have preferred to allow us to switch off after a busy day.
- Heather (8/5): - The property and location where excellent except for the fact that we did a one minute drive from the A316 at 2.oopm and received a £160 penalty notice because (apparently) it was school time. Otherwise the location would have been perfect. See above notes regarding a Council Byelaw which we had no idea about.
- Russell (8/5): Don't drive on the road - Loved meeting Chris the owner and the lovely lady Got a fine for driving down the road to the place, Not good
- Neil (8/5): Quirky but clean and welcoming accomodation within someones home - Location was good BUT BEWARE there is a camera that is near the property that states no access 7am-7pm . You will be fined £60 if you go past this.. difficult to find way in as satnavs take you past camera. Breakfast was wonderful .
- Barrett (10/5): - It was interesting and heartening to be welcomed into someone's home : the antidote to chain hotels. Mr Chris and his housekeeper were splendid hosts. We liked the area, a quiet cul de sac overlooking the Thames. Nothing.
- Manel (8/5): -
- Asli (6/5): I is a cosy and a sad house with lots of memories - The house being nexr to the river ans cosy Its was old and cosy but the vibe was not as mentioned before in the house. unfortunatly nothing written on the discrition is correct anymore. The lady of the house was died , there was a huge silence understandable, thw gentelmean was around 95 almost leaving and can not be able to talk. so it was tough staying there, not like as I read on the feedbacks and discripton unfortunatly.
- Steve Broughton (8/5): - Great location and facilities full of character.
- Geoff (10/5): We had a delightful host in Chris And. It was a privilege and an honour to get to know him. We were well looked out by H - Accessibility warm Welcome from Chris
- Petra (10/5): Urgemütliche Zimmer in einem Haus direkt an der Themse - Der Blick auf die Themse ist umwerfend, London von einem neuen Blickwinkel! Ausgezeichnetes Frühstück, herzliche Gastgeber!
- David (8/5): A wonderful stay. - Beautiful Thames view room.
Very eclectic house, Chris was lovely to talk to.
Great breakfast.
- Georgina (10/5): Unique stay with wonderful hosts - Christopher and Helen were so lovely and welcoming, excellent hosts. A very unique stay, room clean and well equipped. Lovely breakfast spread from Helen.
- Derek (7/5): We enjoyed the location, host and housekeeper. We enjoyed the breakfast. Internal access was - The location was great. The host was lovely and eccentric. The housekeeper lovely. The out of date milk in the room. The TV was tiny and not well positioned. Our suggestion is buying a larger flat screen TV with channels like Netflix, Prime, etc, removing one of the artworks on the wall opposite the bed and mounting the TV in its place.
- Judy (10/5): Authentic British B&B with owner - Nice view of the Thames from our room Genuine British home stay with delightful owner Chris. Lovely British breakfast prepared by housekeeper Distance to travel from airport by underground, 2 transfers and then a bus transfer and walk from bus stop. Unfortunately, our arrival was switched from Heathrow to London City Airport, which made it so long.
- Michael (9/5): A cosy family home in the right place and central for public transport, plus, free safe parking. - We loved this accomodation as you became part of the family in a home rather than booking into a functional hotel. I appreciate that this would not suit everyone but for Chris Naylor, the owner, to share many of his memories linked to the large amount of memorabilia was fascinating and I do hope to return to revisit Kew Gardens. Another big plus was that Chris could direct you to most places of interest, providing the correct bus numbers and frequency of journey etc and the bus stops were only a slow ten minute walk away, Couple all of this with an excellent location overlooking the Thames near Chiswick bridge and a healthy and plentiful breakfast provided by the housekeeper , Helen, and you have the place to stay that is right up our street.
During our three night stay the car remained statinary for the duration and we used readily available public transport and shanks pony, perfect. There is nothing that we did not like but this would not suit everyone, if you are not sure of anything I would suggest sending the property an email or phone call and Chris will always be honest with his information, however , for those who like a more interesting property in the London area then this is top of of my list .
- Li (10/5): -
- Allen (10/5): Unique Stay in Chiswick.i - Chiswick Riviera is a unique and delightful place to stay. We loved it. Chris and Helen are wonderful people. Lots of interesting, amusing stories told at breakfast. And the breakfast is really good quality: choice of cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt and toast. It's a cluttered place, full of books and a lifetime of momentoes .it's not for you if you like sleak corporate over designed rooms with ensuites, but if you want to meet a couple of interesting individuals in a relaxed homely atmosphere give Chiswick Riviera a try. We're only stayed four nights. Hand basin downstairs was a bit awkward.
- OLEH (8/5): -
- Hilary (7/5): Welcoming, beautiful and artistic house in an enviable position by the river. - Re communicating, it was both very good and rather difficult. We had excellent directions from Vicky but when we opened the key safe the key wasn't in there and no-one answered the door bell. So we sat back in the car for a while until fortunately another guest happened to come out to his car and he let us in. Our host is welcoming and charming but clearly didn't hear his door bell. Its a fascinating house on 4 floors with so many interesting books, pictures and collections. Lovely and warm but the bathroom to our ground floor room was a good few paces away towards the front door so not entirely private. Breakfast was delicious and included a wide variety of cereal,a huge bowl of home made fruit salad, yogurt, toast and spreads and excellent tea. There was also coffee but I didn't try it, I expect it was a similarly high standard. Our room had a most attractive patio with furniture outside leading up to a lawn looking directly over the river. The house is in an enviable position with a marina across the road which you can cut through for a 9 min walk to the bus stop to Hammersmith and central London. Car parking is very satisfactory and safe right outside the house. Be aware that on a Saturday evening the traffic getting into Central London quadruples the time you need to allow! getting back on tube and then bus from Hammersmith bus station was easy and quick. The most useful improvement would be to check the key is IN the key box for the expected guests please.
We like cats (and Tosca is exceptionally beautiful) but guests need to be aware in case they don't! we had a panic because she slipped out the front door with us, but luckily the owner was cool about it.
- Cheryl (8/5): A pleasant stay and very convenient for where we had to be that weekend. - Our host Chris was delightful and Helena's breakfast excellent. Our room was comfortable with a small outside patio but no view. Proximity to the riverside walk and pub was ideal. The shower room was down the corridor and the hand basin was a talking point but not practical to use!
- helen (10/5): Fantastic value fab area. - The location was lovely, Parking was a massive help.the fresh fruit salad on the morning was superb ,Chris was super I could have stayed in all day just to chat. Helen was a super help with fantastic breakfast .The area had some lovely restaurants in walking distance. Nothing it was a lovely stay
- Erika (9/5): Lovely place - It was a cute house, we were hosted by a lovely older man, our host Chris. we just stayed for one night, but it was great. the bed was comfy, the room looked like a library. in the morning we had an amazing conversation with Chris over breakfast! It’s a bit far away from the metro station, keep that in mind.
- Rob (10/5): Cosy stay by the river - Cosy home away from home. Definitely quirky in design and decor but created a peaceful atmosphere Breakfast at a fixed time of 8.30 didn’t work for me so was out before it started
- Shelly (8/5): Our England B&B experience. - Stories from Chris the owner were precious and entertaining.! Delightful being with him at breakfast. Beautiful view from our bedroom window.
If you want peace and quiet... stay here!. We decided to purchase some dinner and sit outside under the stars in the backyard. Thames River right there.... so lovely and peaceful!
Enjoyed watching the rowers in the morning... was fantastic. We did not realize how far the location was from London. Transit took time to figure out and walk to. Bit of a struggle taking our large suitcases up the stairs. There was a mobility chairlift on the stairs but was a bit awkward for my husband to put the cases on.. We cleared out a few cobwebs in our room and in the bathroom when we arrived. We were told that there had recently been a death in the family so I image they were dealing with all that as well as trying to run a B&B.
- herman (10/5): -
- Lynley (9/5): A very good base for us in London in a comfortable and welcoming home. - The location was very good for us to base ourselves at. Wonderful setting on the Thames. Very nice breakfast with a different type of fruit salad each morning which was excellent. Nice company.
- John (9/5): Great sleep after long haul flights, lovely walks to Kew and Chiswick gardens in a warm cultured hom - Perfectly suited our need for a quiet place to sleep after long haul flights with walking distance to kew and chiswick gardens. We slept well overnight, not hearing plane noise that is more in the day.
We slept in a lovely eclectic library with small cute outside garden on the Thames, and breakfast while chatting to Chris was really a pleasure
Quintessential English experience and a home festooned with Art.
Not for those seeking a sterile routine hotel.. Nil
- Damiab (9/5): - The owner was a very nice gentleman and the home help lady was lovely as well. The breakfast of fresh fruit and a good choice of cereals and toast was really good.would definitely go again It was a shock at first because didn't realise it was a house that the owner lived in but turned out to be a lovely stay
- Mark (8/5): - A wonderful experience
- dominique (9/5): -
- Karol (9/5): - Very nice hosts (and a very friendly cat). We enjoyed the chats over breakfast each morning. And we loved the library bedroom.
- Athina (10/5): - Very British flare He didn't give us the parthenon marbles back 😔
- simon (10/5): -
- Dooley (9/5): Superb -
- Giuseppe.sofia (8/5): Very good - Along the Thames with private garden, 15 minute walk from the royal botanic garden. Excellent fruit salad at breakfast.
- Frank (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (10/5): Warm welcome with everything we needed - A fascinating host who looked after us brilliantly. Breakfast, choice of cereals, toast with loads different jams, honey. Juice, tea/coffee.
Situated on bank of Thames, with various rowing crews training in the water giving lots to watch. Nothing
- Jeffrey (8/5): Slightly uncomfortable given the news on arrival, but we were made to feel very welcome. - Breakfast was fun. This is basically a B and B. I don't think the operation will continue much longer as the main host passed away a week before our arrival. They are honouring existing reservations but winding down, I believe. The location was great for us, as we walk a lot. It's on the Thames path. If the hostess was still alive.
- René (2/5): Very poor -
- Frederick (8/5): Very good -
- Mitchell (8/5): Very good - Lovely room on a quiet estate.
Thanks Vicki!
- Vls (7/5): Good - Very welcoming host who likes to sit & engage in conversation with guests during breakfast. Delicious healthy breakfast especially the superb & abundant fruit salad. . Lovely river views at rear of property . A few miles from Ham house, Kew gardens, Richmond park, & close to Chiswick house & gardens
- Norbert (8/5): Very good - Our hosts were wonderful. Could have spent a week in their company. The breakfast was copious and included in the price. The accomodation was right on the Thames Pathway. The nights were peaceful.
- Cherie (8/5): A relaxing stay in a pretty location on the Thames. - Loved the location on the Thames River in walking distance of great pubs and transport.
Our hosts Chris and Vicki were warm and welcoming and always had an interesting story to share over breakfast.
- Paris (8/5): Very quirky, charasmatic, very warm, nice couple who are very attentive. - Very quirky and charasmatic, parking, lovely views You are staying in the same house as the owners are living in, which wasn’t a problem for us but may be to others.
- Gale (10/5): A wonderful experience made better by delightful hosts. - Everything. Nothing.
- Phil (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jayne (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing fascinating hosts , REALLY beautiful location, great breakfast beautiful location, warm friendly hosts Nothing
- Mark (9/5): Superb - The breakfast was exceptional. The hosts are lovely people with interesting stories to tell. Sorry I couldn't stay longer enjoy more of their hospitality and explore the local area more. One minor thing some might like to know, the sink in the bathroom I used downstairs is quite small making wet shaving a bit awkward but the shower had plenty of hot water and a good flow rate.
- Maverick (9/5): Night in London for a show - Easy to find , and overlooking the Thames Very warm , had a fan on all night to cool down
- John (10/5): Lovely hosts and staff who were very friendly - Very homely
Good breakfast
Clean Nothing
- Ibbett (10/5): Our stay in Chiswick - Vicki and Chris were lovely and so interesting to talk with. Lovely setting and house. Breakfast delicious. Nothing really.
- Helen (7/5): Good - Lovely location , good breakfast spread and genial hosts Room wouldn't lock and was not ensuite
- Clive (8/5): It was lovely waking up in the morning to a view of the river in tranquil surroundings . - The location could not have been better as was right next door to the rowing club and fabulous view of the river. The hosts were full of character and the accommodation had a homely , boho feel .
- Pete (10/5): A lovely stay with lovely hosts. - We enjoyed our stay although only one night, there is an amazing amount of life collections throughout the house, Chris and Vicki are absolutely lovely and great hosts, very interesting to talk with and very knowledgeable about the area and transport.
Thank you Chris and Vicki for making us welcome in your home. I must mention the delicious warm homemade turmeric and sultana bread, it has inspired me to try and make some myself.
Pete & Lisa
- E (9/5): Excellent location and a very interesting property with a great view. - This is a very unusual property and better for it. Vicki and Chris are an interesting couple, with some fascinating stories to share. The bed was lovely and comfortable, the view from the window of the river room was sublime and the breakfast was beautiful. The location was perfect for our needs.
- Mike (10/5): Comfortable and relaxing stay, close enough to Waterloo station. We will be back! - Everything went well. The couple who are the hosts are very friendly and accomodating. The B&B is Full of antiquities and memorabilia. They are a couple who have travelled and were very undertaking during their life. The best however is the peace and quiet of the location. A view of the Thames just 20 meters from the broom. To be awakened by the sound of the rowing teams practicing the techniques early in the morning is fabulous. The couple joined us for breakfast and we could stay talking for hours if we would have wanted to.The location is a 10 min. walk to the Chiswick station and 30min. train ride to Waterloo station. So easy. Nothing
- Phil (8/5): 'Iffy' start but most enjoyable thereafter - Having told Chris and Vicky, that we weren't happy in the Library Room, they were very quick to offer us a move-upstairs to the River Room which was beautiful; light and airy and with a lovely outlook over the river. Toilet/shower were very near at hand.
Breakfasts were excellent; not 'full-English' but a good range of cereals, fruit and preserves for applying to toast-Vicky's wonderful home-made bread.
The stairlift was a real boon for my wife who struggles on stairs.
On our last evening, we particularly enjoyed our dinner at Chris and Vicky's recommended 'Little Bird' restaurant. We managed to get in without booking but it was crowded and we were lucky I think The ground floor Library room we were originally given, having asked for a ground floor room, was quite quirky and, sadly didn't get much sun so was a bit cold in the evenings and didn't have the river view we'd hoped for.
We were disappointed not to have 'en-suite facilities though access to toilet and shower room was easy
- Maria (10/5): Just lovely! - Vicky and Chris are wonderful hosts and we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay with them. The Library room is a magical place for book lovers, and anyone wishes to spend a moment away from the hussle and bussle of our crazy, screen oriented life! Breakfast was great, conversations were lovely! Thank you so much, we will be back! Maria and Jon. nothing
- Alison (7/5): Very pleasant . - The location was lovely , right on the Thames path . Easy walk to Kew Gardens.
Breakfast was delicious and plentiful . The bed wasn’t very comfortable and had no headboard . The settee in our room ( library room)was also uncomfortable.
- Phil (10/5): Eclectic, welcoming, lovely breakfast and incredibly interesting hosts - for my wife and I, an absolute delight - What an amazing place to stay - the whole house is stuffed with memories of a lifetime of our hosts. The stories they could tell would take forever. Amazing hospitality, Vicki and Chris welcome you as part of a long lost family and are interesting to talk to and they are interested in what you have to say. Location with a view across the Thames is excellent - Chiswick High street is a relatively short walk and there are good places to eat and drink near by
- Tony (8/5): Very good - Fantastic property with amazing hosts who made this an experience not to forget. The bed was very soft
- Nick (9/5): Superb -
- Nicholas (8/5): Very good - Chris & Vicki were excellent hosts
- Victor (3/5): very disappointing considering the price. - Location and free parking The bed mattress was very old (you could actually feel the springs), the bedroom was cluttered not just with books but lots of other personal items, the wifi signal was very weak in the bedroom. The bathroom was off the main hallway and the sink was the size of a large soup bowl. There was no room to put a toiletry bag and in the shower, the accessory pole was all rusted. I was offered breakfast but only at 8:30 which is entirely impractical for most people needing to be in the office by 09:00. Everywhere just seemed to be full of clutter and personal belongings. There were no visible fire exit signs and the smoke detector was on the floor.
