The joy of rural life integrates life and art seamlessly. I am particularly envious of the daily sharing of the Shan&Donald couple in the homestay, their considerate service to guests, the special desserts and homemade breakfast, which are all unforgettable…

Attentive and congenial hosts Shan and Donald were very knowledgeable about the surrounding area. We took advantage of their recommendation and visited Sawtell and it's beach which was lovely and only 20 mins away. Very clean, comfortable and unusual accommodation in a beautiful setting. The Castle exceeded our expectations. No hesitation in highly recommending you won't be disappointed! NOTHING
• Cooper (10/5): Excellent stay with lovely hosts. - We were greeted with tea and cake upon arrival. Our room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable. Donald and Shan were very friendly and made us feel at home. They even provided us with recommendations for the area. The castle and grounds were beautiful. Breakfast was made with food from their garden and was delicious. I highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast.

Donald and Shan are the perfect hosts and were excellent in helping us find appropriate restaurants for dinner . The breakfast was exceptional, free range eggs from own hens to make our omelette, plentiful and delicious and not forgetting the freshly squeezed orange juice . Excellent one night stay for travelling on towards Brisbane breath-taking views. So peaceful and calm. Thank you both so very much for making our stay so special .

Breakfast was also fantastic - freshly squeezed orange juice & pancakes with an array of home grown fruit & fillings. The castle is quirky, fun and comfortable. It was also spotlessly clean, and set in stunning countryside surroundings.

We loved the Old World hospitality, exceptional cleanliness, unique surroundings. Meeting Donald and his wife truly was the highlight of our 5 weeks travels in Australia. The host's generosity in sharing tips and stories about the region, giving us the tour of his gardens, as well as a delicious breakfast with home made/ home grown products made our stay just perfect. This charming brick building sits atop a hill, surrounded by a lush garden filled with fruit trees. Shan and Donald are exceptional hosts. Despite my late arrival, they welcomed me with a freshly baked homemade chocolate cake and a comforting cup of chamomile tea. The room and bathroom were impeccably clean and spacious, ensuring a comfortable stay. Breakfast was a real highlight—a generous spring onion omelette made with eggs from their own chickens, paired with a fresh salad. I also received great recommendations for must-visit spots along the nearby coast, which turned out to be absolutely worth the trip. A flawless experience—10/10!

The castle is beautifully designed, full of character, and surrounded by peaceful nature. It’s hard to believe a place like this exists in Australia! The grounds are stunning – lush greenery, fresh air, and the sounds of nature all around. In the morning, we were delighted to see colorful Australian parrots flying through the trees, making the whole setting feel even more magical. Shan and Donald are absolutely wonderful hosts. You can truly feel the love and care they’ve poured into this place. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel incredibly welcome. And the breakfast – what a highlight! It was honestly better than any breakfast we’ve had at the Four Seasons. Every dish was delicious, thoughtfully prepared, and beautifully presented. This wasn’t just an overnight stay – it was a memorable experience we’ll treasure.

But the best thing was the hosts. They were so warm and welcoming. They went above and beyond - they greeted us with coffee and cake, and cooked the best breakfast with fresh and homegrown ingredients. They are so genuine, it felt like staying with close family or friends. Highly recommend. Will definitely stay again. Not a deal breaker, but the bedroom door didn't have a lock. No issue, though, because it is very safe.

We were in the downstairs room, which has a very comfortable bed & spacious bathroom facilities next door & unique artwork. The property is beautifully maintained and lovely and peaceful. This is such a unique place to unwind and relax. A fabulous breakfast was provided & the parting gift was a lovely and unexpected touch. We didn't really find this a negative, but others might be disappointed that there is no tv in the room.

The hosts were absolutely amazing and the accommodation was idyllic. Breakfast was prepared to our exact requirements with many of the ingredients sourced from their own garden. We could not have been made more welcome. If you are travelling in or around Gonville or Coffee Harbour, this is a must stay B&B. It will exceed your expectations. Nothing. We loved the place and the hospitality.

It's not just a place to stay; it's a place to be rejuvenated by the quiet beauty and the extraordinary hospitality of Donald and Shan. I enjoyed everything!

The breakfast was delicious and I would go back for sure. Great place to stay. The only thing we were expecting the bathroom to be an ensuite(we stayed in the bottom room) but it was next to the room which ended up being done and still very private.

Donald and Shan were gracious hosts. The decorations and gardens were beautiful and in keeping with the theme of the Castle.. The was no ensuite , you had to leave your room and go next door. Okay, as there were no other guests but a little uncomfortable.

The breakfast is expertly cooked, organic and five star restaurant quality. I met the chickens that laid the eggs. If you want a little excitement, there is classy and boutique Sawtell nearby with an excellent range of restaurants. I could have stayed longer.

Beautiful home made pastries and freshly squeezed juice for breakfast with a big bowl of fresh fruit and a hot coffee. Wonderful service from the friendly owners. Magical experience. Nothing. Absolutely perfect.

The property is certainly unique in style and grandeur. Donald and Shan are wonderful hosts who went above and beyond to welcome us and create a wonderful stay.

They provided comprehensive directions to find the Castle, and on arrival, we were welcomed with tea and home baked cake. They provided advice and directions for local restaurants and for catching sunset at Sawtell Beach. The beds were very comfortable and the home cooked breakfast was very nice. The property is very well maintained with lovely gardens surrounding. Approach to the property has a few turns and is best done for the first time in daylight as there is no lighting on the entry track at night.

• Geoff (10/5): Wonderful, romantic place to stay, peaceful, quiet, perfect! - The Castle at Bonville was a wonderful place to stay for 2 nights, to play golf at the Bonville Golf resort. The accommodation was so comfortable, the decor and furniture beautiful. Hosts Donald and Shan were very welcoming on arrival and provided great information about local places of interest and food venues. Everything was clean, neat and tidy. The breakfast each morning was great. We can highly recommend staying here.
