Guest Reviews
- Bonnie (9/5): WE really enjoyed the path through the woods and appreciated the beautiful gardens and Guy's help. - It was confusing that it is advertised as a B&B but there is no breakfast served. Could we fix that? See above and it was a little hard to find, but we managed with their directions.
- Bruce (9/5): Superb -
- Aaron (8/5): Relaxed, comfortable quiet stay with a good view - Beautiful view, nice and comfortable quiet room. The galloping goose trail leads right to a good neighbourhood pub. The property could use a tidy up.
- Jeremy (8/5): Very good -
- Eric (8/5): Very good -
- Lynne (8/5): Conveniently located accommodation with great view and deck but in need of deep cleaning and generalized maintenance. - Convenient location for cyclists off the Galloping Goose, gorgeous view, spacious deck with bbq, spacious rooms, nice small deck off room, comfortable bed/linen Both units needed significant deep cleaning, dusty baseboards/bathroom fan, marks on walls etc), window sills grubby, worn carpet, plug outlets not at bedside area, cluttered/grubby front entrance, would have loved a simple breakfast (cyclists)-muffin/banana/apple etc would be easy and appreciated. Hot tub had water added (cold water) at 4:30pm making it not very hot for evening hot tub experience.
- Nadia (10/5): Loved the view and the quiet surroundings - The Eagle's Nest was a great room with a stuning view of the cove. Comfy bed, very quiet all around. I found a small fridge and a kettle in a cupboard but I could not find a microwave? Or did I look to fast and did not notice?
- Linda (10/5): Very enjoyable 😊 - Everything!! It was a stunning room with a lovely outlook! Didn’t get to use the hot tib but would have enjoyed it. N/a
- Charles (8/5): Very good - Quiet, remote. Clean and comfortable Location was a bit awkward.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - Great location for people on bikes. Right off the galloping goose trail. Nothing. Perfect
- Michael (5/5): Beautifully located with stunning ocean views, nice touches but several disappointing shortcomings. - The location is undeniably beautiful – right by an inlet with lovely views of nature and the sea. We appreciated small touches like the in-room coffee maker and granola bars available in the community hall. However, several key issues impacted our stay. Most importantly, the included breakfast mentioned in the booking was no longer offered (discontinued since late 2024), and we only received a small refund after following up with booking.com. The unit was significantly smaller than described and not suitable for four people – no dining table or chairs inside, just one couch for two and a single armchair. There were only two balcony chairs and a table outside, which wasn’t usable due to weather. Noise from the road and other guests was clearly audible both day and night. Lastly, the gas fireplace (the only heating source) was broken, though luckily the weather was warm enough that we didn’t need it. Overall, a mixed experience with a beautiful setting but several disappointing shortcomings.
- Sean (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bryan (7/5): Good - Great view On a very busy main road, difficult getting in and out.
- Pamela (10/5): Highly recommend - The room was very big had a large bay window with a great view of the cove. The yard is full of flowers. Hot tub and a BBQ for your use. Great path behind the house for morning and evening walks and a Lil hidden walk way the the water. The host and their employee were helpful and very pleasant . Highly recommend this place! I will be back
- Cheryl (9/5): Superb -
- Keli (7/5): Comfortable room but no breakfast provided. - Quiet large comfortable room; convenient parking; good location. The advertised breakfast was not provided (if we'd known we'd have packed food!) Also, the approach to our room was odd, looking a bit like a neglected back entrance. And the ocean view was mostly hidden by a tree. We didn't see or talk to a host.
- Lars-peter (8/5): Very good - Nice view onto the cove. Hiking / Bike Trail right in the front. Nice spots around for hiking. Lovely brewery at town making exzellent beer! For breakfest we recoment Mum‘s Cafe!
- Melinda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julieta (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Weather is too rainy
- Wendy (10/5): Exceptional - Very luxurious!
- Davies (7/5): Great escape for a few nights away (but come prepared) - My mom and I stayed in the "Quadruple Room with Seaview" named as the Eagle Rest on the property. We really liked the extra covered patio, the great view, comfy bed and the private beach access! It was also right on the Galloping Goose trail and a short 10 minute walk to the Stickleback Oceanfront Cider & Taphouse. Although the hot tub is communal, no one else seemed to be using it, or were respectful of taking turns so it worked out great. "Guy" the property caretaker was friendly and respectful of privacy. To access the private beach: go out the back gate, turn left on the trail and then right when you see the private property sign. It's rugged so wear good shoes! There was absolutely no breakfast served at all. There were some granola bars and microwaveable popcorn in the common hallway (along with plates, cutlery, ice, microwave), but that was it. Luckily we came prepared with our own food and extra items like a cutting board, good knife, etc. There was also only one tiny bathroom garbage bin and 1 tiny bag - but they ask you to take out all your garbage and recycling... Lastly, the TV wasn't working but we had a laptop to watch a movie on.
- William (10/5): Exceptional - Great location and wonderful property. Beautiful view.
- Noraml (4/5): Lots of glitches, some of which were solved, some not. - The caretaker, Guy, was very patient and kind, and tried very hard to correct a couple of glitches. The view was nice, it was quiet and clean, the walking path down by the water was enjoyable. We were able to have our dog with us.
The staff (Guy, Rob), and the owner I spoke with before arriving, were all very kind and helpful when I had trouble accessing some related information, which was certainly appreciated. I'm usually not one to complain, but so much stuff happened. 1. The WIFI for the TV never worked properly. When it did work, it was only for a short time. EXTREMELY annoying after about the 3rd or 4th time. Guy kindly offered us another room to watch TV, then that TV didn't work for very long! Mystifying, since apparently it'd never happened before. 2. When we arrived, the filtered water jug had a hairline crack, which had leaked water all over the table it was on. It's a wooden table, so we put a towel there to soak up the water and clean it up. 3. The wooden stairs in the back were very slippery from ice in the morning--my husband nearly slipped. I shudder to think if it had been me, because I'm recovering from a knee injury. There should be some sort of treads on the stairs so they don't need to be salted. 4. Also, I didn't realize how many stairs there are to the room and how steep the driveway is. It might be good to mention that for people who have mobility issues. 5. There was no breakfast, which I had assumed there was from the reviews and the list of amenities! Not to mention, it's referred to as a "Bed and Breakfast." (see below)

***However, I will expect some sort of compensation because of the TV/WIFI situation and the fact of there being no breakfast, even though it was advertised as such.***
UPDATE...UPDATE...UPDATE!
We were offered NO COMPENSATION for NO BREAKFAST, and the TV NOT WORKING. Unbelievable. This company does not care about the people who stay here. Really a rotten way to run a business.
- Avis (8/5): We loved it. Very quiet and comfortable. Would recommend as long as no mobility issues. - Room spacious and comfortable. Big bathroom, loved the sink. Close to walking path. The hill to get to the rooms is very steep to go up or down. Then steps to get up to room Not good for older people or with any mobility problems.
- Trish (5/5): Adequate but property needs a little more care. It has good potential. - The view
Beds
Hot tub First impression could have been better. Outside was untidy.
Breakfast was just cancelled. We were not expecting that.
In our room the last step at the bottom was unexpected and caused a fall.
Two TVs were not working.
- Elise (9/5): Superb -
- Laurie (9/5): The best! - My daughter and I just needed a getaway and this resort was perfect for us in every way. Lots to do in the area, good food close by and quality time spent together. Thank you so much!
- Lori (9/5): Fantastic quiet location with great views! - Location was fantastic with access to the Galloping Goose Trail right outside the back gate. Close to townsite and beaches and hikes. Great view of the water from the room and patio. Very quiet Room could use a little freshening up.
- Anne (7/5): Sterling Cove - one night - The suite was cozy. There were lots of towels, extra coffee pods, fridge and toiletries. Beautiful garden. The hair dryer needs to be replaced. The balconies are close together - not very private. A place to charge devices would be nice.
- Stephen (9/5): Superb - People above us were up at 5:30 and clomping around and woke us up.
- Donna (10/5): Exceptional - Great access to the galloping Goose trail for scenic walks. Hot tub was a treat after a long day. Guy the caretaker was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay there again !
- B (9/5): Beautiful clean outstanding accommodation. Recommended highly. - Was not offered breakfast.
Beacause I could/did not access the complete check in information beforehand, I had trouble checking myself in. Also did not realize i could have found help from the caretaker. These were errors on my part. Did not check the code when I left thru garden gate; then could not get back into the property.
- Maureen (6/5): Fair. I would not go back. - Location was only good thing. Parking not available...very difficult. The caretaker was not available when we had difficulty with parking. Very hard to find the room. Information sent was not well described. Generally mediocre decor. Rooms were not soundproof. That was annoying.
- John (8/5): Guy was a great host for this property. Along with Bruiser the cat! - N/A Nothing to criticize at all.
- Gail (9/5): Superb -
- Kate (7/5): Good - Lovely view, nice hot tub. Location right on Galloping Goose trail. When we booked breakfast was included in the price and the property is still branded as a bed and breakfast. Breakfast is NOT now included, which we had no prior warning of and so were unprepared for.
Property is on very busy main road so sitting outside not pleasant because of traffic noise.
Very steep slope and a lot of steps to get to property.
- Gene (8/5): Very good -
- Edwin (9/5): A pleasant stay in Sooke with a beautiful view. - From the bed to the barbecue and jacuzzi and the stunning view, this property had all the comfort we needed for a restful 3-night getaway. The garden was bursting full of life around the property which made it that much more beautiful. The driveway was a bit small for our VW Atlas and the wifi internet was slow, but these were only minor inconveniences.
- Jacaline (7/5): Comfortable. - It's a great location in the Galloping Goose trail and excellent west coast views.
- Iuliia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caryn (1/5): Don’t stay here, there are better options nearby - The view of the cove was nice. This place is more like a cheap motel. It smells and is dirty. It really needs a serious upgrade. The walls are paper thin. You can hear everything. There were people partying and loud music. We contacted the on site property manager to see if we could get a quieter room and received no reply. We contemplated leaving but could not find another hotel near by at the late hour.
- Lisa (10/5): We felt so fortunate to have discovered this place. Outstanding and beautiful in every way! Thank you! - It was Amazing!!! Beautiful property with garden and pathway to the trail that goes along the water. Beautiful!! By far it was the best place we stayed on our trip. The room snd facilities and hot tub! were outstanding as well. We loved it all!
- Craig (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sharn (8/5): The property is like a warm fuzzy blanket on a rainy day. - The location is within a 8 minute drive to shops, restaurants and supermarket. The town of Sooke has all that you need while on vacation. The accommodation has a large bay window which looks directly onto the bay. Very pretty outlook. It has a decent size fridge and a gas fireplace which adds ambiance. The king size bed was very comfortable. Even though the property is right on a very busy road, there is no hint of traffic noise while in the apartment. The property is built on the side of a hill overlooking the bay. Access to the apartments is via a very steep driveway. If you have mobility problems this may be a problem for you. Access to the rail trail at the bottom of the garden is via steep steps and again could pose a problem for people with mobility problems.
- Pichette (5/5): Older, but clean. Price was right. - I can see how the scenery from the hot tub would be quite beautiful. Unfortunately it rained hard during our whole stay. Arriving in the dark isn’t ideal. There is no light on the lockbox to access your keys. Once you’re able to retrieve your keys none of them are labelled so you’re fumbling with holding your things while trying to determine which key fits…in the dark…then the gate doesn’t lock behind you, you have to manually do it. The walk from where you park your cars is quite steep and not well lit if you arrive in the dark.
Would have appreciated the porch light being left on knowing we were coming. Again very dark to navigate. I was travelling with a person living with autism. Helpful to have two sets of hands for all steps required to get to your stay.
The tv didn’t work, kept freezing.
Mattress is very tired. Could definitely be replaced.
- Paige (10/5): Beautiful room, property and location! - The house backed right onto the Galloping Goose Trail with a short walk to the local pub and gas station with a store, market and gift shop. Although there were other people staying there, we never heard them and we always had the hot tub to ourselves. Beautiful view of the water from the hot tub and from our room balcony. Highly recommend. A microwave in the room would have been perfect!
- Cory (10/5): Exceptional - I loved the hospitality great accommodating atmosphere 👌 well worth the money
- Mya (9/5): Superb -
- Jacaline (8/5): Second time we have been there and have another retreat planned for March. - The fantastic views.
Great privacy!
Lovely to be right on the Galloping Goose Trail!
So close to Victoria, makes it a great location for a quick getaway. Lots of stairs.
But luckily didn't interfere with us having a fabulous relaxing stay.
- B (10/5): Great stay! - Had a great stay... What you see on the pictures is exactly what you get. Self check-in was easy and clear, and the view and surroundings were great. Really good breakfast, surprisingly, as it was delivered on a tray the night before. The walk down and around to the entrance is a bit steep.
- Heather (7/5): Good -
- Victor (8/5): Very good -
- Jacaline (7/5): We loved the west coast ambiance. Very private, relaxing atmosphere. - The hot tub, the great location, the views and accessibility to the Galloping Goose trail. There are a lot of stairs and it’s in a steep location.
Must be fit and outdoorsy.
The breakfast was generous, but the same everyday.
- Amanda (8/5): Cozy little room in a quaint rural area of Sooke. - The location was beautiful, I woke up to a view of the water. The back yard leads to the Galloping Goose trail. The hot tub is closest to the Hummingbird Heaven room, and it was very luxurious. The breakfast was very generous, and the few issues I had were dealt with quickly. Guy is on site and was able to support with any questions I had. The best was comfortable and the room was clean and tidy. It would have been nice to have clearer instructions for turning on the fireplace. I had to reach out to Guy in order to find out how to turn it on. It would have also been nice to have a light switch by the door for when you first enter the room. When I arrived it was night and had to fumble around quite a bit to find the light switch.
- Jeff (9/5): Superb -
- Nathanael (9/5): Clean and cozy with west coast views - We felt very secluded and left alone. There were other people staying there at the time but we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Everything was very clean and straight forward. We would absolutely stay again.
- Shabih (7/5): It was great overall if we remove the Breakfast delays and Propane issue. - It was cozy, secluded for getaways. The staff didn’t respond in timely manner, breakfast was cold as they used to serve it a night before.
The BBQ ran out of Propane so I had to go with the property manager to fill up the propane. This should’ve been taken care prior our visit. Secondly the breakfast was not having tea bags and upon requesting multiple times we weren’t given the teabags for 4-5 days so had to buy the tea from Tim Hortons. Other than that the stay was ok. Also the property Manager wasn’t reachable anytime of the day.
- Barb (7/5): Wonderful people. Best suited for younger guests not looking for pampering of any sort. The view is - The breakfast was generous in amount, but all store bought, including croissants and Costco muffins. The property is older and could use a cash infusion to update, but this would inevitably cause a price increase. It was more than comfortable and the staff were very friendly. The view was beautiful. A few guest toiletries such as what is common would be nice.
If you have any type of mobility issues, check to see if you can come and go from the front of the building, otherwise you will have a challenge getting to your room as there is a steep driveway and various steps to go up and down to reach your suite.
- Rob (4/5): Hot tub is nice but - It had a hot tub. There was Continental type breakfast. There bed was broken and very uncomfortable made for a really bad sleep. The room smelled like bromine(hot tub cleaner)
- Janette (10/5): Great location, kind host, will stay longer next time - very private, comfortable bed, nice breakfast tray. Great location with trail access, restaurant nearby. Good spot for our dog, well fenced nothing
- Richard (9/5): Superb - Our large and comfortable suite, complete with gas fireplace, had great views of the bay, and was foregrounded by a large arbutus tree next to our deck. We enjoyed the hot tub on the lower outdoor deck that also had a view of the bay. Great suite, and John and Guy were wonderful hosts.
- Roscoemclean (8/5): Positive overall - Location was great, beautiful.
Caretaker/manager was helpful & polite.
Jacuzzi was great.
Price was reasonable.
Breakfast was nice. The entrance was a little awkward and had a stale smell (didn't affect the room, just wasn't pleasant when coming and going).
Cleanliness wasn't at 100%. Not bad, just could be a bit better.
Check in/out process wasn't communicated, luckily I found the caretaker/manager and he was very helpful.
- Alisha (10/5): Nice - Private and cozy. The hot tub was really nice and I liked being right on the galloping goose trail. Nothing.
- Rachel (7/5): Good -
- Greg (6/5): Pleasant - The room and host were fine. Breakfast ample and good for travel. Comfy bed. Parking horrible. First night there, there was an extra car because of some sort or snafu. After we were in, we couldn't get out to go get dinner. Ate the breakfast for dinner.
- Nancy (8/5): Beautiful views with spacious sized comfortable room. - View was amazing...the bed was extremely comfortable, the walking trail behind the house was so nice to walk on...very peaceful, great breakfast with so much food provided. Could hear a lot of overhead walking around, the walls between the rooms on either side were fairly thin that we could hear the people talking at night. The code to get our keys was easy, but wish the keys were labeled as to what doors they opened. More signage needed near road as we didn't realize where to turn in to the driveway...tight maneuver to park the car and to get out and back onto the road.
- Brian (8/5): Very good - Lovely room in a nice setting with an elevated view across the bay. Very large double bed that was really comfortable. Nice bathroom with quirky sink. Breakfast was a bit strange. A bit pot luck what was supplied but quite filling. However, it would have been nice to be able to freshen up the croissants in an oven. Disappointed to find that after we had left out breakfast dirty plates etc, the coffee cups were not replaced. Instead, the dirty ones were left behind for us to clean for next use.
- Brian (10/5): An excellent private facility with a wonderful view. - The owner and his beautiful dog Jack met us at the house door and showed us the facility. We had a great conversation with him. The room was very large and comfortable and quiet. The view of the ocean was wonderful and the hottub was great and private. The internet was excellent and there was a wide variety of TV channels. The bathroom was spacious with an excellent shower. The bed was firm and very comfortable. An excellent continental breakfast was waiting for us each morning with more then we could eat consisting of hardboiled eggs, muffins, croissants, yogurt, cheese, oranges, bananas. juice and lots of coffee. We look forward to staying there again. Parking was very easy and the whole property was fenced and very secure. It was a bit of a walk down to our room. Definitely not wheel chair accessible.
- Steve (9/5): Superb -
- Abhishek (9/5): Good location, Spacious, clean and comfy room, very good breakfast - Well appointed room with balcony and view to water. Very good breakfast. Comfortable and clean. Location right off the highway - very convenient to access and a few minutes drive to market and restaurants.
- Markus (9/5): Worth the trip! Thank you - Great location, view, bed and hot tub. Loved staying with our dog. Breakfast was a bit subpar, but sufficient.
- Susie (9/5): Superb - Beautiful large room with water view.
- Tim (9/5): Superb - Proprietors John and Shawn very friendly people. On-site manager Guy very friendly and helpful. Nice room with a view and very comfy bed. Location a little tough to locate first time, tucked in off road.. easy turn around not far down the road after you pass to come back.though. .
- Ivan (8/5): Very good -
- Maksim (9/5): Superb -
- Sandra (7/5): Perfect for a one nighter in the area - The view Too many keys to manage. Gate that had to be locked from both sides
- Pearl (6/5): Pleasant -
- Debbie (8/5): This was a lovely place to stay. - Our room was lovely. Large , clean with a balcony with a view. Great coffee machine. Easy access to the galloping goose trail. I am not a fan of repetitive continental breakfast being delivered the night before.
- Martin (6/5): Pleasant - Beautiful view from large room over the bay. Very comfortable bed, lots of hot water. Proximity to walking trail. Difficult to find, no name on property only number.
Breakfast was repetitive, left outside door each evening, therefore croissants not fresh. Jam, butter and milk would have been nice.
Lack of communication from owner, no check in instructions, found out by disturbing the owner, keys were in box by door.
- Francis (10/5): We’d go back tomorrow! - Location is spot on. Fantastic views. Hot tub great.
Breakfast super! Didn’t stay long enough
- Wing (8/5): Very good -
- Amy (8/5): Very good -
- Mclaughlin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexandra (9/5): Gorgeous ;) - Views from the balcony are breathtaking and very soothing! In my opinion even this is enough to put 10 of 10. But also room is super clean, you have everything you need and hosts are very nice and welcoming. Breakfast is generous and customizable ;) hope, to come back soon! The only thing that can be better - bedding. We would really appreciate natural fiber next time.
- Jeff (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ruth (8/5): Very good - Location: close to the water. Nice patio overlooking the water. Big breakfast but would have been nice to get some local bread with jam and butter Finding the unit was hard despite the long instructions on the e-mail. Little bit messy around the property.
- Li (8/5): Good stay at Sooke - Portion of breakfast was good even it is cold. We couldn’t find the breakfast first morning and later discovered it was placed on the bench at shared space inside the house not outside. Lol
The location is good even on major busy road. We went for a lovely and quiet walk on the path at back of the house with excellent vies. The room is clean but it was dated.
- Esha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linda (8/5): A lovely location surrounded by beautiful trees - felt like I was in a tree house. - Simple but large continental breakfast!
Would have been nice to offer less but local baking.
- Quan (9/5): Superb - It's easy to find, the place is clean, hottub is great, view is amazing, breakfast is excellent. Overall we really enjoyed the stay. It would be great to put the room name on the door so It's easier to figure out which room was ours.
It would be nice to have signs or instructions next to the subjects, instead of having to go back to the email to look for instructions.
- Viorica (10/5): Happy B&B - A great, beautiful place by the water!
The owners were very hospitable, great big breakfast!
We were welcomed by Guy, showed us around and our room!
The views were beautiful from the bedroom and back the balcony!
- Sharmaine (10/5): Exceptional - Our room is beautiful and the hosts are wonderful!
- Bettina (10/5): Great place to stay - They were very friendly and accommodating. Everything is very clean. They provided big breakfasts. The view from our window, overlooking the water, and the fact that there was a walking trail just steps outside our door made our stay very pleasurable. The connection with the wifi and the tv was flaky. But it didn't take away from the experience.
- Andrea (8/5): Very good -
- Svetlana (9/5): Good value for the money you spend, great location - The location is great and we really enjoyed the nearby trail. We also enjoyed the jacuzzi and included breakfast. It was a surprise that the property is more like B&B not a hotel, but it was a good surprise. The self check-in was good but as we came late, we got lost on the way to our rooms.
- Shashi (9/5): Great peaceful location particularly for cyclists and walkers. - The view, king size bed and jacuzzi. Cold breakfast.
- Richard (9/5): Ideal sea side get away - Great views clean Owner didn’t know the days the restaurant you can hike to was not open which led to unfortunate disappointment and scrambling to make alternative plans which are not easy to come by Mondays and Tuesday in Sooke we discovered
- Oleksii (8/5): Very good -
- Grant (9/5): Stay was excellent. Very good value - Excellent view of bay. Right next to galloping goose trail and ocean. Could watch seals and deer from room. Awesome breakfast Steep walk to room but worth it
- Shelley (10/5): Exceptional - Wow! Great spot to relax. Guy was helpful and attenitive. Large room with a great view. Breakfast was great!
