Guest Reviews
- Richard (8/5): barossa excellent - great tomatoes, bacon, eggs, mushrooms and bread. ran out of sauce and gladwrap first day, but we survived. fantastic location. nothing is ever perfect, except my partners cooking
- Naomi (8/5): Relax and relax - Location was great.
Very comfortable bed and great breakfast provided
- Denise (10/5): All in all a wonderful experience would absolutely stay here again when in the Barossa - Pretty Quaint Little Cottages with everything you could possibly need. Easy walk to the centre of Tanunda, ideal position. Mathew the owner couldn’t have been nicer and more helpful. Amazing breakfast supplies more than enough for our 3 night stay. All in all a wonderful experience would absolutely stay here again when in The Barossa
- Eileen (8/5): A pleasant short stay in a cosy cottage. - The breakfast was good and you could have as much or as little of the food provided, which was great cereals, eggs, ham, bread and butter.
The cottage was cosy and had everything we needed. Nothing to dislike.
- Steve (8/5): -
- James (10/5): - Everything, lovely place, beautiful garden.
- Andrea (9/5): -
- Wayne (9/5): - Very comfy room and bed with lounge, dining table and super bathroom with a large spa. Off street car parking and close to the Main Street of Tanunda (a two minute walk). Good info kit on wineries and what to do. Great kitchenette with an excellent selection for breakfast with bacon, eggs, fresh field mushrooms and tomatoes with cereals and bread and choice of spreads. Lovely port for a night cap.
- Robyn (8/5): Quaint comfy cottage, very conveniently located just off the Main Street. - The location was very convenient, easy walking distance to cafes and shops. The breakfast foods provided was very generous.
- Jennifer (8/5): A very cosy, quiet location.Walking distance to Tanunda Main Street - Its proximity to the Main Street of Tanunda All good
- Kylie (9/5): Quiet and lovely place to stay - Excellent provisions
- Aaron (10/5): Would stay again - definitely reccomend! -
- Maryann (10/5): -
- Norton (7/5): Two out of three ain't bad . - Breakfast supplies. Location handy. Off street parking under cover. Bed not comfortable. The garden and driveway needs a tidy.up. tea and coffee need updating.
No washing machine. Get rid of the Spa .
- Crito56 (9/5): Lovely stay - Provisions for breakfast were great.
Very close to town
Easy to book in.
A great base to explore the Barossa. Toilet seat broke first night.
Advised owner and said we could manage no worries, just letting him know before next occupants arrive.
He replied that he would be over the next day to fix it.
We were expecting him all day , no big deal, we didn't wait in, just communicate that you can't make it.
Overall we had a lovely stay in a fantastic cottage close to town with great breakfast and other provisions provided.
- Mick (7/5): Nice place to stay. - Nice setting. Great location. Has been a favorite of ours for years. Ran out of hot water.
No spa bubbles or shower soap.
Needs curtain over lead lighting above bed, too much light coming in.
- Weber (9/5): - The location was perfect being only a short stroll from the Main Street.
Breakfast was ample.
The spa was great & very relaxing.
The bed was very comfy.
- Jodie (10/5): Nourishing and relaxing - Very comfortable and tidy, great for a couple, relaxing everything provided and a beautiful garden to relax in.
- Natalie (7/5): - Loved that it is right off the main road, but felt very private. The outdoor seating area was really nice to sit in during the warm evenings.
The place was small but just was cosy! Appreciated the breakfast foods, although unfortunately due to pre-made plans we didn't get to eat them. Would stay here again There were limited power plugs near the bed, so we couldn't charge our phones or other items at night. When I went to move the bed to see if there was one behind the bed (as there often is) I noticed the back of the bedhead was incredibly dusty - this was quite off putting.
- Lisa (10/5): Enjoyable, quiet, did not want to come home - The food left for breakfast was fantastic. It was very nice, comfortable and great location.
- celt (10/5): Dove Core Tanunda cottage stay - Jacqui P - I loved the charm and warmth of the cottage - it felt like home when I walked in and I fell in love with it right away.
Matthew went above and beyond with breakfast provisions, the extras of port and choccies also. Such a great location, and the doves were just beautiful
It was a short reset stay for me, which I loved and didn't want to leave. I would highly recommend and I will definitely be returning.
My apologies in my original review and card I left at the cottage was incorrectly stated as Michael! It's meant for you Matthew! There was nothing I didn't like - Matthew was so easy to talk to when I rang about checking in, keys etc.
- Fitzgerald (10/5): -
- Carol (8/5): Beautiful location and a cosy place to stay. - The breakfast provisions were first class and greatly appreciated. Lovely quiet location yet very close to lots of the local attractions. We believed we had booked a two bedroom cottage but only had admittance to one bedroom. This was not ideal for two older sisters who didn’t want to share one bed. I was offered the use of a single bed up in a landing area for a $50 payment which I took. Just left a feeling of being duped, this had happened at a previous place as well in Glenelg at that place there was a single bed available which I used at no cost. We have never found any accommodation before this happening where two bedrooms are advertised but one is locked, just be aware!
- Shirley (8/5): So close to town and very comfortable - The house is a very quirky place. It was very clean and had everything you needed. So close to the centre of town with easy access to restaurants and shops. Our host. Micheal was brilliant. So much food was in the fridge for breakfast 😋. Would definitely stay again. It is a bit older than I thought, and the back garden is a jungle.
- Michael (9/5): - Close to the main street of Tanunda
- Patrick (9/5): -
- Susan (10/5): - The unit was set up so well it has made it hard to find any faults The only one I can say is that it has made it so hard for other places to offer somewhere to stay that equals Dove Cote
- Kerry (8/5): -
- Matthew (9/5): Superb -
- Rick (9/5): Superb -
- Gerry (9/5): Superb - The accommodation was great, clean, well catered for, pleasant surroundings. Faultless ☺️. Will return.👍 Nothing to dislike.
- Sandra (9/5): Superb -
- Kristy (7/5): Quaint cottage but needs some maintenance/upgrades for the price. - Great location within walking distance to the main street in town. Sorry but the mattress downstairs was worn and uncomfortable, the bath plug didn’t fit so water leaked and there were mice scurrying during the night.
- Grant (9/5): Superb -
- Ian (8/5): warm and cosy , good location - breakfast supplies were very generous and good quality , good heating , appreciated the chocolates and port , good off street parking , does really have white doves and dovecot at the back of the property. coffee plunger needs replacing , doesn't filter the coffee properly . Ideally a coffee pod machine would be great. Shower temperature difficult to control .
- Patricia (10/5): Dovecote - Location, layout, provisions in fridge, comfortable, everything provided Nothing
- Denise (9/5): Very relaxing & most enjoyable - Cleanliness, breakfast provisions, extra towels, quiet & convenient to everywhere! TV was no available
But lots of reading etc so wasn’t really an issue
- Megan (1/5): Bad -
- Ian (8/5): Very good - Perfectly positioned in the heart of the Barossa. Full of potential to be THE perfect getaway but in need of some love and attention to detail.
Generous breakfast provisions, location, cozy ambience, friendly hosts. Exterior lights didn't work making the courtyard inaccessible at night.
The garden needed some work to reflect the description and photos on booking platform.
- Meredith (8/5): We had a wonderful stay at Dove Cote, it was very conveniently located and had everything we needed. - The food items were fabulous, eggs, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, yoghurt, cereal etc.
Having the BBQ available was great.
Easy checkin.
Matthew answered queries very quickly.
Great location around the corner from the Main Street in Tanunda.
It had a laundry. My pillow was uncomfortable, the door handle between the bedroom and bathroom needs fixing and we ran out of gas for the hot water for my shower which needed replacing.
Out door seating was not clean so we did not use it
- Rodolfo (8/5): Very good -

- Lesley (8/5): We had a very pleasant stay, host was excellent We found the clutter in the small kitchen made it difficult to find item - Location

- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gregory (9/5): Superb -
- Julie (9/5): Relaxing, peaceful with many wine bars & cafes close by - Located within walking distance of all facilities and yet no traffic noise. Sitting in the private courtyard for breakfast was lovely. This lovely studio was well presented with a comfortable bed, relaxing spa, a kitchenette & ample provisions for cooked &/or continental breakfast. The freezer in the bar fridge didn’t keep food frozen.
- William (8/5): Enjoyable in some instances but property looking tired - Position. Breakfast was very good. Cleanliness. Chocolates and port at night Only one hanging area for one and no drawers to put clothes. Other wardrobe locked. Garden unkempt and outside seating rusting. Generally looked uncared for
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Great comfortable stay. Ideal for our needs. Nice attention to the little things - great breakfast provisions, chocolates and port. Very comfortable bed. Good size bathroom. Everything you need is there. A great weekend was enjoyed. Nothing
- Leanne (9/5): A little cottage tucked away in a quiet street in the Barossa Valley, Value for money - The breakfast supplies with the added touch of chocolate and Port were amazing. Studio was very cozy for the cold weather we experienced Liked everything
- Sharlene (9/5): Superb -
- Philippa (10/5): Perfect position, quiet, clean, & welcoming, and yet only steps to everything in the main street. - The location was ideal. It was quiet, but one street back from the main road and a short walk to everything - restaurants, bakery, doughnut shop, bars etc. The house was beautifully kept. It is an older style, but so pleasant. There was also a nice courtyard so you can eat outside accompanied by the coo-ing of the doves. And I cannot say enough about the breakfast supplies, generous, delicious with lots of choice. And having a spa bath after spending a day walking and visiting wineries was lovely as well. Check in was straight forward and when we had a little problem with the TV, the host phoned back almost immediately and solved the problem. He was very pleasant and helpful. There was nothing we didn't like about our stay.
- Warren (9/5): Superb -
- Mardi (8/5): Very good - Breakfast, bed , spa Air con needed cleaning and was not very effective for heating
- Ostermann (7/5): Good -
- Heather (10/5): A great place to relax and do some walking as well. - The dovecote is a very peaceful spot for some contemplation as well as convenient to the town of Tanunda. Very impressive in all ways, provisions and set up . Was a wonderful few days. All was excellent.
- Paul (10/5): Home in the heart of Tanunda - Great base to explore Tanunda and the Barossa Valley. Spent three days here and it felt like home. Had everything we needed and lots of extra touches which were appreciated. Very generous supplies for a cooked or continental breakfast, and complimentary chocolates and port on the table. Also had access to the laundry.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- May (8/5): Very good -
- Belinda (10/5): An excellent mid week getaway in a lovely quiet location with all the luxuries of home. - Breakfast provisions were exceptional and generous. The little extras (chocolates & port) were a lovely touch....overall an excellent location on a quiet street. There wasn't anything that I could fault.
- Raymond (7/5): Good -
- Kay (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eva (9/5): Superb - The cottege is very well mantained, very pretty and with all the necessary to enjoy a short stay. Very generous breakfast!
The location is fantastic, walking distance too the heart of Tanunda with lots of restaurant options in the area. Recommended!
- Cheryl (7/5): Good - The cottage was a beautiful little place. Unfortunately there is a steep flight of stairs that my friends and I were unaware of..We are in our 70's and 80's so stairs were a worry. We all struggled with them so be aware of this. No other issues.Breakfast supplies were amazing!!
- Wayne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Sonia (9/5): Superb - We were a group of 4 adults and it was very cosy and comfortable. Having kitchen facilities with all utensils etc required allowed us to easily self cater. The breakfast provisions were generous and perfectly suited to our needs. Towels were fluffy :) Being able to use the wood fire was a highlight.
Having one toilet in the single bathroom between us proved interesting but we were aware of this at the time of booking. We had to take care on the stairs so put our older parents in the down stairs bedroom just in case!
Overall great facilities and very comfortable stay. Walking distance to the Tanunda Main Street was a big bonus.
- Paula (9/5): We had a wonderful time again in Tanunda (2nd year for the Marathon Festival). We love the town. - Breakfast supplies were great.
Only suggestion would be milo/hot chocolate/peppermint tea. There wasn't anything we didn't like.
- Terry (10/5): Exceptional - Charming accommodation with everything one would expect and more. A full sized bathroom with enormous spa, while access to a laundry with clothes dryer was an unexpected bonus. The breakfast provisions were plentiful and much appreciated. Easy walk to Tanunda's main Street and Winery.
- Francis (10/5): The stay was made perfect by the location and the privacy that the cottage afforded,a really clever layout & design - It was well located, well equiped and comfortable from first entry until we had to reluctantly leave. Some door hinges could use some lubrication. Had trouble with using the remotes.
- Julie (9/5): Really enjoyed the space, didn’t need to light the fire but very tempted!! - Plenty of room, everything you would require in kitchen A little dated, light switches were tricky to find, couldn’t turn the TV off!
- Frank (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (9/5): Terrific time in Tanunda staying at Dovecote - Very cute and comfortable, excellent location, with everything you need,we enjoyed our stay very much.
- Carol (8/5): Very comfortable accommodation to explore all that the Barossa has to offer. - Cosy little place. Clean, & comfortable.
Abundant delicious breakfast supplies.
Great location to explore the town. It was very small, but manageable for 2 people.
- Joebrogno (9/5): Clean, comfortable and great location. Great hosts too. - The food was stocked with great produce like eggs, ham and bread. Really clean and comfortable place to stay and the car access was great. Close to the main cafe, restaurant and bar strip, so we never needed to use the car. Really liked this place and highly recommend.
- Amy (9/5): Superb -
- Ida (9/5): Superb - Perfect location, as said, within walking distance of the centre.
Old world charm!

- Graeme (9/5): We enjoyed our stay at Dovecote. Location was excellent for walking as we had no car. - Our breakfast was well catered and more than enough for two of us.
- Kerry (10/5): We had both sections of Dove Cote for 2 nights. It was a wonderful stay . Provisions very generous, warm and cosy - Dove Cote is a very cute unique property with lots of character. Very cosy, clean and in a handy location. We loved everything about the property, but would have liked some tea towels to dry dishes .
- Julie (9/5): Superb -
- Alison (9/5): Welcoming. It’s the little extras that make the difference - We had the studio room. Very spacious with lots of little extras. Great selection of continental and cooked breakfast provided. Terrific outside private area. Quick walk to the Main Street. Highly recommend. Kitchenette a bit hard to juggle everything. But you can work around it.
- Ed (8/5): Very good - Visiting ducks
- Nerida (10/5): A beautiful, cozy and quiet cottage and very relaxing. - The breakfast was exceptional. There was plenty of food for a very hearty breakfast. The owner was very friendly but left us to our own devices. The bed was very comfortable and the cottage was clean and cozy. The bonus chocolates and port was a very thoughtful touch. The cottage was just one street back from the Main Street which enabled us to walk everywhere. Would stay at Dove Cote again. Nothing.
