- Michael (10/5): Perfect home base for exploring the Tarkine. - Staying at Platypus Waters was a fabulous way to start the new year and the perfect home base for exploring the Tarkine. We really appreciated every thoughtful detail at this gorgeous place. It was a joy to come back after a long day and chill on the deck, one eye on the setting sun, the other scanning the river for a cheeky platypus. Nothing, we loved our stay.
- Irene (9/5): Super - Sehr gut eingerichtet und alles für das Morgenessen da! War etwas kalt.
- Tersia (8/5): - I loved the recliners. What a nice little surprise. We had to stay indoors on the Saturday due to weather and watching movies while relaxing on these - awesome !!! Totally understandable but still a bit of putting was how the place looked at the front when driving up - construction materials etc. But I can understand they must be busy with renovations or something ... just give a bit of an unwelcome atmosphere driving up.
- Patrik (9/5): Perfect -
- Paul (10/5): A place to recommend to others and to come back to. - Well designed, beautifully presented, peaceful, private and quiet, great breakfast selection, Laura was a very friendly and accommodating host. One of the best BnBs we’ve ever stayed in, anywhere in the world. Nothing

- John (9/5): A wonderful place to stay to visit the West Coast and the Tarkine area of NW Tassie. - The location was picturesque. The facilities were top-notch.
A very thoughtful and generous owner who had provided everything you could think of, including a manicure set and plenty of mobile charging facilities. Food provided for breakfast was above average. All perfect, nothing to dislike.
- Jennifer (9/5): -

- Marcelo (7/5): Lovely location, nice and warm, clean and self service kitchen had all the implements required. - Well looked after, close to locations we visited. Bed was a bit hard and pillows flat.
- Neil (10/5): A gem in Smithton. - Everything. Comfortable, clean. The owner has gone out of their way to make it feel like a home away from home. So much attention to detail. All the extra breakfast items and provisions provided. Great location to explore The Tarkine. Would highly recommend. Actually do yourself a favour if your looking to explore this region, stay here, you won’t regret it. Nothing.
- Lindsay (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nathan (10/5): A definite must if wanting to stay at the northwest in Tassie - The host was lovely and very welcoming. The self-contained unit had everything you need plus more, they supplied food, drinks and condiments. The little stream out the back was great to sit and relax and unwind. I would stay there again if I'm in Smithton. There really wasn't anything we didn't like.
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely
Perfect location
- Jennifer (10/5): A magical experience - A magical experience from the outlook (Aussie bush with a river running through it), superb modern kitchen, spacious bathroom with heated towel rack, comfy bed. Beautifully and tastefully furnished and a more than adequate breakfast. Could not have asked for more.
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -

- Angela (10/5): Outstanding in every way! - We loved everything about our 2 night stay at Platypus Waters. The level of comfort, cleanliness, and attention to detail were the best we have experienced in our travels. We especially loved the privacy and beautiful outlook to the river. The new recliner seating was greatly appreciated, as were the generous breakfast provisions. Thank you so much Laura for your welcome and excellent communication regarding our booking. We'll be recommending to family & friends!
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional - Home from home. Great facilities and local knowledge. Platypus came out to play, got dome good videos.Port on arrival was a great touch.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Fully stocked fridge and cupboards with all the basics and enough to make a good breakfast. Bread milk butter cereal jam yogurt fruit toaster etc. Chromecast on TV and electric Jason recliners. View over river and close to town and best place to eat No ice cube tray for G&T 😉
- Veena (9/5): Friendly host made our stay extra special so we are very grateful to Laura for going above & beyond what we expecte - Perfect location to explore Smithton & Stanley. Host Laura was super friendly & even provided us with a lovely surprise of cold bubbles as we were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. Our little dog Evie was made welcome so that gets our vote every time. With a very well stocked fridge & pantry you could stay put & just enjoy watching the ducks & platypus in the river at the bottom of the garden. Nothing it was perfect.
- Brian (9/5): Great accommodation at Platypus Waters - This was our second stay in Tasmania. The first was excellent and then we arrived at Platypus Waters and found this was excellent also. The bonus might have been to see a Platypus but unfortunately that did not occur. The previous occupants the day before our arrival did see one and filmed it so we were unlucky. The accommodation is well equipped, furnished, provisioned, clean and comfortable with that lovely view over the Duck River. So well recommended and thank you Laura and Mark for offering such a delightful unit. Nothing!
- Pauline (9/5): Superb -
- Liz (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful apartment in tranquil location overlooking duck river, the perfect escape and ideal stop for your Tarkine adventure Nothing to dislike
- Massom (9/5): Superb -
- Fraser (9/5): Lovely peaceful B&B with river views - Fantastic view of the river from the balcony. The B&B itself was spacious and fully equipped. Best of all it is pet friedly and so we could bring our little dog along.
- Kathy (9/5): Superb -
- Kibblewhite (9/5): Great place to stay for a relaxing atmosphere, with a running creek at the rear. Very modern bathroom and kitchen applia - Excellent provisions in the kitchen. Cereals, toast etc all included. Good TV and bedding. All good
- Marina (10/5): Perfect place to stay and relax . - Location, clean, confortable and beautiful view behind with a riverside Nil
- Peter (10/5): Best B and B we have stayed in Very comfortable with great ambience on Duck River - Everything
- Mark (10/5): Better than home. - Some accommodations are adequately outfitted. Some are well equipped. But Platypus Waters was EXCEPTIONALLY well outfitted. Everything a visitor could hope for was provided. If we had known how wonderful it would have been we would have booked for more than just the two nights. I honestly cannot think of a single thing that we did not like. This place was our ideal of a B&B. Full marks to Laura and Mark for thinking of everything.
- Bombara (10/5): Exceptional - A wonderful relaxing place to stay.
- Michelle (10/5): Platypus Waters..... tick, tick, tick !!! - Platypus Waters is A+ in location, hospitality, amenities, actually it was just fantastic all round. Easy to find, close to town and with a beautiful river running right behind the property. There was enough breakfast provisions to last us the 4 days we spent there. On our first night we didn't arrive until after night had set in, Laura had turned on the lights and heating for us so it was as comfy as could be. Loved it all. Thanks Laura. N/A
- Cederblad (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was wonderful It was all good
- Jessie (10/5): A beautiful, peaceful stay in a cozy bed & breakfast with fantastic hosts. - I LOVED staying here! Such a peaceful and beautiful location. The hosts were fantastic and even did a load of laundry for me. I will certainly be staying here again next time I am in the area. Nothing!
- Ann (10/5): Stayed in B&B's throughout Australia, New Zealand and the UK, this would be in the top three. - Good selection of provisions and wide choices for Continental breakfast.
All the utensils and cooking appliances were there if you wished to have a hot meal including BBQ facilities on the outside deck, which overlooked a small stream, inhabited by at least one Platypus.
Very spacious accommodation, large lounge/kitchen area, comfortable Queen size bed in a large bedroom.
Spacious shower and the vanity cabinet included the most thoughtful and extensive range of equipment, you may need when traveling. This was also one of the few accommodation facilities that included a night light, extremely important in my opinion for safety. Two nights in retrospect was too short and although I had a glimpse of the Platypus, just not quick enough to get the camera out.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leann (10/5): Home away from home - Easy to find, private and a great location for exploring Stanley and the Tarkine region. Comfortable and well appointed with delicious breakfast provisions. There's also the possibility of seeing a platypus in the creek.
- James (10/5): Relaxing environment conveniently located. - Great range of breakfast options including plunger coffee! Really comfortable bed. Hot water heated quickly for use in kitchen and shower. Smithton proved very interesting and Stanley is always a delight. Nothing could be better.
- Chris (9/5): Fantastic, good up todate rooms - Great location and completely separate from main house.
Good location to see the area none
- Melinda (10/5): see above - The owner Laura greeted us although we arrived in the evening.
The accommodation is thoughtfully designed & well fitted out. It is very comfortable and looks onto bushland & a creek with a resident platypus. Lovely tranquil ambience inside & out.
There was a small secure lawn for our dog to run around and there was no trouble having him inside.
The breakfast was a selection of tasty fruit, bread & cereal.
Platypus Waters is ideally located near the excellent tourist office and gateway to the beautiful takayna/Tarkine conservation area. n/a
- Steven (10/5): Very comfortable - Continental breakfast supplied was great
- Graham (7/5): We liked our stay. Good point to stay to explore the North west of Tasmania - The fresh fruit was fantastic, good breakfast, good outlook onto creek, nice fee lto the place set up very well with the private entrance/exit. The closeness to the road made it a bit nosy could have been fenced off or had more of a barrier from the road.
- Kay (9/5): Superb -
- Melville (10/5): Exceptional - It is like home away from home. The fridge and cupboards are well stocked. Very spacious. Easy access from car park to entry door.
- Robbie (10/5): Peaceful little getaway - The view from the private balcony was beautiful. Perfectly peaceful, with sounds of the river flowing beyond the edge of the garden to add a little more relaxation. The bed was very comfortable, and all the amenities were perfect, from the overhead walk in shower to the Chromecast TV with pull out sofa bed, allowing us to chill and watch a movie in comfort. The breakfast selection was great, loved the selection of jams, and lurpak is my favourite.
Also a great location if you want to drive up to Stanley for the day, and only an hour's drive to The Edge Of The World, both places I'd recommend visiting for lovely views.
- Lee-anne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Swannack (8/5): Very good -
- Tony (10/5): Top accommodation in a beautiful and peaceful setting. Highly recommended. -
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lauren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Denise (10/5): Cosy & Comfortable - The unit was extremely comfortable and very thoughtfully fitted out with great little touches that made you feel at home. We loved the position of this unit above the river - such a relaxing country view and the balcony to just laze away on taking in all the sites and sounds.
- Alastair (10/5): We were extremely comfortable and well provided for. - A beautifully presented and spacious B&B with every comfort and unusually generous quality provisions for breakfast. Nothing
- Morgan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sue (8/5): Perfect for a couple…warm and comfortable, with lots to do in the area. - Comfortable little unit with a lovely rural view. Quiet and private. Well equipped, with generous continental breakfast provisions. Handy location for visits to Stanley and Arthur River. Nothing really - a washing machine would have been handy.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast supplies. nice warm place on a very cold Easter. Close to town and the RSL for lunches. The wifi can drop in and out but it is Smithton.
- Steele (8/5): Very good -
- Reg (10/5): Exceptional -
- Beverley (10/5): exceptional accomodation close to Stanley - beautifully decorated. exceptionally clean. all facilities provided for a stay. good communication via email. quiet. comfy. nothing.
- Pradeep (9/5): We enjoyed our stay as we were able to come in and out as we pleased and the place was very quiet. - The place had lots of amenities, was clean and attention to detail was good. The fact that we were there for three days allowed us to explore the amenities provided.
Plenty of choice for breakfast items.
- Penelope (9/5): It was a very peaceful place to stay with a comfortable bedroom, bathroom and large living area. - Location was excellent , very peaceful but also close to all town amenities.
- Valerie (10/5): Relax at Platypus Waters while you visit Smithton. - Platypus Waters sits above Duck River….a very peaceful location. The living space is clean and comfortable with lots of little extras thrown in….device chargers, a decanter of port. The bed is super-comfortable, the shower hot, and Continental Breakfast supplies are provided. We did several trips from the property, out to Marrawah, The Edge of the World, Arthur River and with our host Laura as the guide, up to Woolnorth and Cape Grim. It was absolutely incredible…..loved it.
I will definitely recommend Platypus Waters to friends and family.
- Lee (10/5): hosts thought of everything right down to chargers for phones and iPad - right on the river in a quiet area
- Barrie (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (9/5): Great supplies and privacy with rural outlook including fast flowing stream. - High quality fruit included in breakfast supplies. Bathroom basin didn't drain properly.
