Guest Reviews
- Elizabeth (9/5): Great - Excellent breakfast, good port, surroundings were attractive, good communication with jost
- Rosemary (9/5): -
- TrippinOz (8/5): Anzac weekend getaway. - A truly relaxing and character-filled location.
Breakfast supplies very generous, especially when shops shut for ANZAC weekend. Nothing.
- Sharon (9/5): -
- ann (9/5): -
- Jen (9/5): - Wonderful cottage in the trees. Private and convenient, with everything you need, plus a few extras.
- Karen (8/5): -
- Gemma (10/5): - Beautiful property with everything you need
- Amy (8/5): - The location was amazing, the yard was beautiful. House was cosy, kitchen was great and well equipped. We thought the Charlie poster in the hall was quite creepy and it startled us at night a few times! We would have preferred a top sheet on the bed and face washers to be provided with the towels. We also would have preferred the windows to be open as the house smelled a bit musty when we arrived and needed some air. The wood creaking was a novelty to begin with, but was a bit much at times.
- Angele J (8/5): - The location was good and comfortable. The bed was good. TV was straightforward. We liked cooking with gas and the kitchen utensils, crockery was plentiful. Nice outlook from verandah, listening to birds and watching for kookaburras. Also appreciated the bread, milk, eggs, butter, fruit & and yoghurt provided. Sunroom was good in the morning and evening. Not a fan of the dog enclosure as it wasn't incorporated into an area where we could sit with them, but a caged area that was out the back.
The property makes a lot of noises all theough the day/night as the wood and tin expands and contracts with temperature changes. Photos indicated there was more yard space than actually available. Outside area was shared with neighbouring property, and other dogs were roaming this freely. Unsure if they were other people on holidays or residents.
- wendy (10/5): - The atmosphere, the trees, birds etc
The extra goodies we didn't expect
The cabin was immaculate and very comfortable
The whole experience Having to leave
- Todd (10/5): - Amongst the trees, very private and close to shops and supermarkets/ restaurants
- Athena (10/5): Magnificent - The peaceful atmosphere
- Wim (8/5): -
- Timothy (8/5): Great location in a nature setting - The location was excellent for our stay. For the event we were attending it only required a short walk. The outside balcony provided a serene area to sit after a long day and the nature setting was brilliant. The breakfast provided was more than filling. For a group of 4 the lounge could have done with one extra lounge chair.
- Manda (6/5): Beautiful surrounds, Adelaide Hills, wineries and Adelaide city easily accessible - Location handy to tourist attractions. House was very squeaky.
- Susan (10/5): Post Wedding stay - Wildlife
Comfortable
Character
Walk into town Nil
- Skye (6/5): Beautiful Wood Cabin - rustic yet comfortable. -
- Sandra (6/5): A very comfortable and relaxing stay in Stirling, this was a great choice! - Breakfast supplies for a 5 night stay were excellent. We had a good variety and enjoyed it all. Windows and screens in the cottage need a good clean!
- FRANCO (8/5): -

Kitchen facilities were fabulous
We got a Warm , cozy welcoming,
especially as we arrived late after a very long drive.
A lovely tipple of sherry awaited us which Warmed my heart at the thoughtfulness.
Clothes washer facilities were much appreciated
Kids really enjoyed the Wii games ..thank you !!
The quiet locale and plentiful bird life were a joy .
It very much felt like getting home .
10 out of 10
Highly Recommend Hilltop accommodation. Wifi was weak and cut out alot
But still giving a 10 🌟
- Amanda (8/5): A lovely, well‑located stay with great amenities, though evening roof noise may annoy light sleepers - The breakfast provisions were fantastic, the location beautiful. Having a separate enclosed outdoor area for the dog, that also allowed her to get into the laundry via a dog door was great. The location in Stirling was beautiful and easy to walk to the local restaurants and village.
The sun room was also beautiful and allowed you to overlook the trees and grassed area with the bridge next door. We weren't sure if we could use this grassed area, it was in the pictures for the property, but looked to clearly belong to the next door house.
Another bonus was all the wildlife - the Kookaburras were adorable, and I'm sure there would be some Koalas here and there too. The house has a tin roof, which by virtue of being in natural surrounds, has loud noises quite often throughout the night. We assumed from animals or tree branches. As some of us are light sleepers, when you add in an unfamiliar environment, it meant we didn't sleep as well as we should have. The beds themselves were super comfortable!
- Michaela (10/5): - It is such a homely cottage. Beautiful spot and love sitting on the verandah looking at the garden and the birds.
- Ruth (8/5): Overall I enjoyed my stay. Thank you for the items in fridge I made use of them. 😊 - It’s had beautiful gardens
Could do with calling fans in bed room and living area. Hot and stuffy when I walked in needed airing. A jug of water in the fridge would be great after driving on a warm day. Just an idea 😊 bed mattress is old very soft.
- Julie K (9/5): great responsive host and lovely place in Stirling a gem of a town. - lovely rustic cabin. Breakfast goodies were fab and so much more inspiring than straight eggs and bacon. Love the carrot juice and small jams.A great place to leave our dog of when we were at the wedding at Mt Lofty house. The structure creaked a bit as the hot and cold temperatures varied in the day/night which was a bit disconcerting at the start.
- StuartA1970 (8/5): -
- Donna (8/5): Delightful - Location. Very quiet. Abundance of bird life. Breakfast supplied very nice and grateful for. Met owner very delightful guy. Dark inside. Took a bit of getting used to.
- Patricia (9/5): The property is delightful set on a beautiful leafy hillside. It is well situated close to the main - Breakfast options supplied were plentiful and varied. As it was a cold wet weekend, the heating provided -an air conditioner in the lounge /dining room took some time to warm the rooms up. Master bedroom had no heating. Fan in bathroom was not working.
- Beffy (10/5): Satisfied - Everything is nice, the bed is comfy. Breakfast is prepared. Thank you! Everything
- Urszula (8/5): The Perfect Peaceful Escape with All the Comforts - Such a cute little place in a GREAT location. You're so close to the city, but it feels like you're a million miles away. The place has a rustic vibe with modern conveniences, it's cozy & comfortable, the surrounding area is so peaceful and quiet, you will literally hear leave rustling outside. Loved the skylights. The provided breakfast was such a nice extra touch. Plus, for those who need to know, the shower pressure in AMAZING. You won't want to get out. Everything was great.
- Frances (10/5): Wonderful home in superb garden - Loved the secluded and beautiful garden location. It is a B&B and there was plenty of provisions for our two nights there. Comfy beds and well equipped kitchen. Loved sitting in lounge area and looking out over garden. There were a couple of outdoor area but it was a bit cool when we were there so spent more time indoors though it seemed like you were in the garden anyway. Not a thing - very pleased with accommodation
- Cooper (10/5): - The kookaburras in the afternoon. The beautiful gardens and windows everywhere to look out.Food for breakfasts was nice. It would have been good if a dryer was supplied as hard to get clothes dry.Could have a few more things in kitchen like oven trays and pizza trays and cooking oil, baking paper.
- Kathy (9/5): - Lovely location and cute cottage feel. Bed was a bit soft, felt like I was rolling into the middle.
- Kwang Jun (8/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): Perfect location for a couples holiday! - The architecture and interior design of the property was amazing, keeping true to the familiar style of the adelaide hills and hahndorf/stirling. We loved the uniqueness of the place, and fell in love with the cabin feel. The complimentary breakfast and amenities were incredible. There is very little we didn’t like, however given it is an old building, it will make some creaks and noises here and there. Nothing to worry about though.
- Nadia (10/5): A very enjoyable stay - A classy, cozy and welcoming space with everything you need. I liked everything.
- Geoff (10/5): -
- Colleen (8/5): - The grounds are beautiful.
- Julie (10/5): Mother daughter too quick stop off after hiking and travelling. - The location was great. On the edge of town but still walkable. Very comfortable with a lovely outlook. Provisions were appreciated and communication with Brenton received quick replies. Thoroughly enjoyed and would return here. Nothing really- the house creaked a bit, however it was very windy when we were there.
- Shyiatyi (9/5): - Great location, close to Stirling hotel. Tasteful decor, a bit dated, but everything was clean and functional. Enjoyed the sunroom with the views of the pond. Wooden structure, so when it was windy it was creaking quite a bit.
- Beverley (10/5): Could not ask for more it was spot on we are from WA - Everything was perfect
- Annie (9/5): Excellent stay! Would love to return -
- Sammy841 (9/5): Relaxing, authentic hills accommodation that is all yours. - The location and the style of accommodation. The whole house was ours. Wonderful large lounge sitting areas to curl up and read a book or watch the local birdlife go about their day. Fully equipped kitchen and Brenton the host supplies some wonderful breakfast items. We greatly appreciated his hospitality. The aircon heating was fantastic and well used as we visited on a cold, wet weekend. You have access to Netflix and Youtube, just sign in on your own account. DVDs are in the book shelves for you to borrow, plus some interesting books. The dining table seats 4. There is a second bedroom if you decide to stay with family or another couple. You will need to pay the extra fee for using the other bedroom. There is a fantastic verandah with a sturdy table and chairs for that morning cuppa while listening to the birds and your view that also looks down into a small valley. We heard a creek running, frogs calling out at night which was lovely. The peaceful surroundings were a bonus. Large spa bath and piping hot water in the shower and the pressure gave you a relaxing experience after a long day's drive. It is an older style home which is totally in harmony with its surroundings, timber ceilings and framework that creaks but you get used to it. A natural home with lovely large windows so you can soak up the atmosphere. A short walk to local Cafe and Indian restaurant, then a bit further up the street there is Foodland and Aldi. There are some lovely shops and a bakery, plenty to browse. Stirling is a very pleasant older suburb in the hills and we will definitely come again.
Brenton the host lives next door so if there are any issues he is available. He also feeds the 7 local kookaburras at 4.30pm which is a delight to watch. Probably the only thing was the narrow lane to get to the accommodation. The road has other properties along it but if you drive slowly enough you are fine.
- Commins (9/5): - Lovely home, comfortable lounge area. Kitchen is well equipped. Nice warm house. Bathroom could have been cleaner. Was difficult to find property, but well worth it.
- Jolien (9/5): -
- Jennifer (9/5): - The home was very cozy and peaceful. The spa was awesome and the breakie amazing. The only thing I didn't like is that I couldn't stay longer.
- Chelsea (9/5): Peaceful, homely and the perfect reset accomodation. - Beautiful location nestled in nature but close to everything in the Hills. Homely, cabin feel with comfortable bed, lots of room and warm even on rainy days. You feel like you’re in a far away sanctuary but you’re only 20mins from Adelaide!
- Marisa (9/5): Superb - Thanks for enough bacon, eggs, bread, milk, mushrooms, tomatoes, cheese, apples and yogurt for two meals. Kookaburras were fun to watch. Easy 5 minute walk to restaurants. Interesting decor. TV and DVD easy to use. I like the fact that the shower/bath is a separate room from the toilet. Good stay for our two day break from touring. The carport was a little narrow for our Toyota Rav4.
- Peter (8/5): A great base for a few days in Stirling. - A great base for 4 nights in Stirling. Whole log cabin house in quiet lane a short drive from town centre.
V comfy but older style house with split ac for heating, good tv and wifi. Excellent full breakfast ingredients supplied.
Fabulous Restaurant (Patch Kitchen) short walk up road. Dined there twice. House quite dark inside in winter. Would be cool in summer.
Garden shown in photos blocked off and not accessible. Looks like belonged to property next door!
Carport access very tight.
- Marcus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennifer (8/5): Good value for money, very comfortable and would stay again. - The overall ambience, facilities and the breakfast making provisions were excellent
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisa (10/5): Gorgeous cottage nestled in the Adelaide hills, spacious, comfortable & - We loved the gorgeous wooden cottage, comfortable beds, lots a space & lovely sun room. Breakfast supplies were plentiful, and check in process a breeze. A hidden gem in the Adelaide Hills and just a short 20+ min drive to the city. Will definitely recommend Hilltop as a great place to stay for singles or families. N/A
- Holly (10/5): A charming house in the woods, wish we could have stayed longer - House was in a very pretty setting: feels remote and secluded, but is located walking distance from town and not too far from highway; Rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable; linens smelled fresh and lovely; Breakfast supplies were perfectly portioned and delicious, greatly appreciated; AC is quiet and cooled the rooms quickly for sleeping; Sun room is gorgeous and comfortable, perfect for enjoying coffee in the morning; bathtub was greatly enjoyed by our 2-yr-old. Not something the host can do anything about, but the house creaks and pops loudly all night long. Was unsettling at first
- Peter (9/5): Very enjoyable. - Full initial breakfast foods supplied, cosy and well appointed accommodation, host flexible and accommodating regarding early checkin and late checkout.
- Jeff (6/5): Good breakfast but average conditions. - Breakfast food was great. Also the extra treats were special. The house needs a good paint job on the outside. The house creaks both day & night. There was no Hot Tub, no free Toiletries, could not find how to work the Streaming Service like Netflix, no walk-in closet, board games & cards etc were mostly incomplete. The bed needs a sheet between your body & quilt, so on warm nights you can have a sheet & a blanket, rather than the warm/hot quilt.
- Greg (9/5): Delightful cottage with everything needed for a cosy stay in the hills. - Beautiful, cosy house and gardens. Great care taken by host to ensure everything needed was complete and clean. Very nice provision of quality breakfast ingredients. Only quibble is the creaking house timbers. A bit distracting on occasion but nothing serious.
- Susan (9/5): Superb -
- Lynette (8/5): Very good -
- Cleo (5/5): Passable - The house didn't seem very clean, for example the bathroom had hairs around sink and carpets were old and stained and it smelt musty. I really didn't like the old artefacts and pictures, maybe just not my taste. Altogether I felt uncomfortable staying here, but maybe others would like the rustic style. Sorry to the owner, as I don't like to give a bad review, and it could be nice with some improvements.
- Ben (8/5): Very good -
- Frank (6/5): Loved the location but property a little tired. - Location No shampoo and conditioner provided as stated.
Presentation of exterior of property with cobwebs on fly screens and windows.

- Kate (7/5): Pleasant escape - Quiet location. Beautiful sunroom on a winters day. Jigsaw puzzle! Nice breakfast provisions. House creaked loudly at night - sleep wasn't as restful as we hoped.
Some general maintenance required along with a spring clean of all the corners and crevices - nothing major but just a little TLC.
Toiletry provisions were basic.
- Penny (8/5): Very good -
- Michel (9/5): Superb -
- Diana (8/5): Very relaxing. - Great breakfast, port and chocolates. Heating was warm and cosy.

- Anthony (9/5): Wonderful Autumn visit - We had a lovely couple of days at Hilltop. The surrounding trees in Autumn were just beautiful. The cottage was a nice walk to the local shops and coffee shops and these were delightful. The owners included very nice touches such as Port and chocolates as well. Overall a great stay! It was all lovely . Couldn't fault it.
- Michelle (9/5): Peaceful and homely - The generosity of the owner(s) in regards to supplied provisions. It was completely unexpected, and really added to the overall experience. The bird life and peacefulness of the property. The owner was lovely! Funnily enough, the life size Charlie Chaplin picture at the end of the corridor scared us both a couple of times when we walked past. It's kind of hilarious when you think about it, but it did give us both a bit of a fright.
- David (10/5): Beautiful setting, allowed us to hear and see some of the very colorful birds of Australia. - The setting and location in a wooded area. Tight parking
- Julie (8/5): Very good -
- Rose (9/5): Superb -

- Michaela (9/5): Superb -
