• Tu (10/5): - La Sombra del Viento was a wonderful surprise!! The entrance gives no hint of what a beautiful Hostal lies beyond it. My room is huge and opens straight on to the garden. It's very quiet despite its great location near the Plaza de Armas! The breakfast which is included is delicious. My host has looked after me amazingly. If I come back to La Serena from the UK I will stay here again!

Está todo muy bien cuídado y limpio, la ubicación es muy central, a pocas cuadras de la plaza, del parque japonés y del parque Pedro de Valdivia. Además el desayuno supera expectativas, es todo casero y natural, muy delicioso y la dueña es un amor!! Viajé sola con mi hijo de 10 meses y estuvo siempre atenta a cualquier necesidad.

La ubicación es ideal para poder moverse a pie a lugares clave de la ciudad por su cercanía a la plaza de la ciudadanía. Quiero destacar sobre todo la amabilidad de Marie y el cuidado a los detalles como que todo lo que sirven al desayuno sea hecho ahí mismo, incluso el yogurt y las mermaladas.

• Gabriele (10/5): Fantastisch. - Das Hostel ist sehr schön. Marie war eine tolle Gastgeberin. Beim Frühstück gab es fast ausschließlich selbstgemachte Produkte. Die Zimmer waren toll, trotz sehr zentraler Lage sehr ruhig. Wir haben den Aufenthalt dort sehr genossen und empfehlen ihn unbedingt weiter. Alles war sehr gut.

The gardens are absolutely beautiful and it’s nice to have space outside your room to sit. The bed was comfy and the room very clean with nice decorative touches. Marie was a very friendly host. Would also recommend the local Chilean restaurant that Marie shared with us. Nothing for the wonderful cheap price of the room with breakfast.

• Kate (10/5): Beautiful tranquil space in La Serena with a fantastic host. - The property was so gorgeous. It was a real tranquil space - we loved our room and the garden was a lovely addition. Marie is such a natural and warm host. She made us feel really welcome and the breakfast was so delicious and all home made (breads, jams, cakes and yogurt). The location was also really good - close to restaurants and a short uber away to the beach.

• Thomas (10/5): Wie Zuhause gefühlt - Schon am Eingang spürt man die Liebe zum Detail. Innenhof und Zimmer sind sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet und absolut sauber. Trotz der zentralen Lage mit vielen Geschäften und Restaurants in unmittelbarer Nähe ist es nachts komplett ruhig – perfekte Lage! Das Frühstück ist fast vollständig hausgemacht und sehr lecker. Marie ist ausgesprochen freundlich, hilfsbereit und gibt tolle Tipps für die Umgebung. Ich habe mich hier von Anfang an wie zu Hause gefühlt. Von meinen drei Wochen unterwegs war das mit Abstand die beste Unterkunft. Uneingeschränkte Weiterempfehlung!

El desayuno es espectacular: zumo de naranja natural, yoghurt casero, 3 sabores de mermelada casera exquisitas, pan casero blanco e integral, té de hojas, cafe de grano .... mmmh ¡exquisito! No hay nada mal. Todo es perfecto

The common spaces are delightful. I loved the courtyard, having a secure place to relax outdoors. I can't believe it's so inexpensive. Truly a gem. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Breakfast was something to look forward to each morning....Marie bakes her own bread and makes her own yogurt and jam....The bread alone was a feast in itself... Location was perfect-a short walk to Plaza de Armas....I am happy to award La Sombra del Viento my highest grade....Top marks....10 out of 10. I LOVED EVERYTHING

Beautiful courtyard and garden. The owner is a superb host and even makes the bread for breakfast. Superb value. Very close to the main square, shops and restaurants.

The only thing that could be better is the time you can have breakfast. It is served just at 8 and because of that we had to skip one as our bus left early.
