- Jan (8/5): -
Alles gut.
- Jocelaine (10/5): - De tudo.
- Paul (10/5): A magical place to stay - A beautifully designed cottage giving the impression of being hidden in the jungle. Fabulous breakfast in an outdoor room next to the river (above so you couldn’t see it) with a bird table to watch birds as you eat. A resident toucan. Lovely staff.
- Carlos (7/5): Excelente estancia: comodidad, limpieza y trato inmejorable - Una experiencia fantástica.

Danke!
- Ieva (9/5): it was fine - Our cottage was new, spacey, 2 large beds, things of good quality and design, functional – everything indoors was very good. Breakfast authentic and healthy. Veronica was a kind host.
These are 2 cottages in a rural setting with a corresponding outdoor look and sounds&aromas of neighbors.
- Mark (9/5): Perfect stay in a great location - Room had everything you needed. Fridge, microwave, coffee maker and little things like umbrellas.
Breakfast was basic but very nice and the location by the river was lovely. 5 minutes from La Fortuna by Uber if needed. Barking dog and lack of a safe in the room
- Macy (10/5): -
- Mary (10/5): Wonderful stay. Loved it and will highly recommend. - Great location with easy access to La Fortuna town and surrounding areas. N/A
- ANA MARIA BR (9/5): -
- Wolfgang (8/5): Nie wieder La Fortuna!!!
Also vorsichtig!!!
Heel rustig. Niets
- Klaus (9/5): - Freundlichkeit der Gastgeber Keine Steckdose im Bad

- Siby (9/5): Great - Great people, Veronica was really helpful , breakfast was outstanding by the river, homely feel. Property can use a better signage to the location.

- Karsten (10/5): - Wunderbare Unterkunft. Sehr geräumig und gut ausgestattet. Liebevolle Gastgeber. Nah an La Fortuna. Sehr leckeres Frühstück!
- Krista (9/5): - Ruim en schoon huisje. Heerlijk ontbijt
- Loren (9/5): Gracious hosts, good breakfast, good facilities. Just needs very minor tweaks. Will return! - Breakfast was Típico Costa Rican, and very fresh and delicious, in a great setting down by the creek that borders the Property. Delicious and made in front of us! The “Casita” was just off the main road, but set far enough back from the street to avoid most of the road noise. Hosts were close by, but not at all “overly present”, and responded quickly to a couple of simple requests we had. Overall facilities are great for a short stay. Beds were comfy. Hot water in shower was great. Enjoyed the impromptu local history and culture overview from hosts! Didn’t score a 10 bcse of minor things that I had already seen on reviews before booking. Examples: General room lighting can be improved, as it’s fairly dark once curtains are drawn. And the bedside lamp was insufficient for both beds, and was not in good working orderBathroom is spacious and bright, but VERY limited space or fixtures for toiletries or clothing.
- Marcel (8/5): Topverblijf + geweldig ontbijt!
Pulizia eccellente. Colazione buonissima e molto abbondante, viene preparata e servita vicino al fiume dove è possibile avvistare diversi animali. Wifi 5G.
- Nathalie (10/5): Loved this place - What a wonderful place! A small hotel (just one bungalow) with high standards. Comfy beds, good air condition, a nice bathroom and even a small kitchen with fridge and microwave. The location is outside the center of La Fortuna but within easy walking distance to restaurants (we loved Tiquicia). Breakfast is served in a beautiful setting and is freshly prepared, including warm food and delicious fresh fruit directly from the hotel owners' farm. Best of all are the lovely owners of the hotel, who showed us around.
- Sattva (9/5): Superb - Beautiful location at Rio Burro.
Breakfast place at the river, there was baby toecan living in the tree next to breakfast place.
Delicious breakfast with lots of different fresh tropical fruits and cassada.
De hotel is also an archeologic place where the found remnants of Pre-Colombian tribe. They have a little museum where you can see the artifacts.
Very friendly family running the place.
- Charles (9/5): Peaceful value - Beautiful setting, archeological site on property, delicious breakfast, and friendly and informative host. Perhaps I misread or misunderstood, but I had the impression we could swim in the river.
- Levi (9/5): Superb - Excellent breakfast. Fantastic hosts Nothing
- Minerva (10/5): Private cottage just outside of town - The room was very clean. Beds are comfortable. Bathroom is big. Breakfast is excellent and prepared fresh table side. The owners are very pleasant. The area is outside of the city center but close enough to drive. The property is well kept. We were able to see a variety of birds as well aa monkeys by the river and trees at the back of the property close to the breakfast area. Good value for your money. We would definitely stay again. Neighbors dogs can be noisy at times though it really didn't bother our sleep.
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - We had a great time at Arenal Descanso. It’s a family owned place. The highlight was the breakfast cooked on real fire with a couple of toukans and other birds making us a company. The location was also great, a few restaurants were accessible on foot (10min walk). Perfect place for those who want to experience La Fortuna in the rustic environment.
- R (10/5): Amazing hidden gem of a bed and breakfast in the middle of La Fortuna - This is a developing boutique hotel with beautiful, well-constructed casita-style rooms (i.e., our room was its own standalone structure). The casita is brand new and clearly a lot of thought and attention to detail went into its construction. The owners were very accommodating of our early schedule and made us amazing traditional Costa Rican breakfast each morning as well as a to-go fruit box. The property itself has a nice river in the back and is centrally located within La Fortuna -- downtown was just a five min drive away. Would definitely stay here again. Could be a little more clearly marked on the road or Google Maps - was tricky to find at night.
- Agnes (10/5): Exceptional - We really enjoyed our stay at Arenal Descanso. The family hosting us was very nice and helpful and the breakfast was great. Especially, the Gallo pinto :) we loved to sit in the pretty garden watching the birds for the breakfast. Closeby are many restaurants and a river where you can swing into the water using a rope. It's fun!
- Ioannis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michele (8/5): Very good -
- Norman (10/5): Exceptional - wonderful people friendly a and helpful a little far from the city
- Judith (10/5): The staff is very atttentive. We enjoyed a beauttiful display in our room for our anniversary. - This being our first opportunity to visit various spots in Costa Rica, Arenal Descanso became the highlight of our trip.
Located in the La Fortuna area, Arenal Descanso is in an ideal location and shares authentic experiences onsite.
- Kim (10/5): Clean lovely bed and breakfast in a nature setting. - Clean, large beds, modern building and bathroom/showers. Great breakfast cooked by the owners. Fast checkin. It’s about a 25 minute walk to town.
- Christina (9/5): Great hosts - The hosts at this property were great they were very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was delicious and afterwards they gave us a fantastic tour around the premises where we saw frogs, different fruits, artefacts of indigenous ancestors and learnt about medicinal plants.
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly family who gave us a nice tour in their beautiful garden next to the river. We saw a lot of animals there. The room was clean and very comfortable. Thank you !! Nothing
- Randie (10/5): It was more than worth the price!! - It was easy to locate. The staff were hospitable. The outdoor breakfast area is picturesque and the breakfast was delicious and filling. We saw a toucan and poison dart frog while eating breakfast. Between about 7-9pm, a motorcycle would come and go followed by barking dogs. It did not interrupt with our sleep though 😊
- Birte (10/5): Exceptional - The place is beautiful and stunning. Inside and outside including the lovely people running it. The breakfast was amazing. ♡
Very nice water to swim in the river at the bridge in walking distance.
- Manuel (10/5): Exceptional - The staff is super kind and friendly.. they serve very good breakfast !!
- Cynthia (9/5): Superb - Clean comfy and convenient
- Deepak (10/5): Amazing place and amazing people. - Loved the bunglow feel. Very nature rich. Great breakfast prepared in front of you. Overall an amazing experience.
- Jean-maxime (10/5): Kind family with beautiful place - WOW!!! Just amazing!!! The host family is the kindest and extremely generous. There is currently one cabine (very clean and comfortable; 2 more cabins to be built in the future), a garden with a lot of fruit trees and medicinal plants, a small archeological museum, and a dining area beside a river with wildlife. The breakfast with local food was delicious and generous, and we could see toucans just beside. The family shared a lot of information with us about the area and their plantation. Again, just WOW! Nothing, just perfect.
- Egidijus (10/5): Exceptional - A small comfortable house in nature but close to La Fortuna. By the small river, where monkeys shout, toucans and macaws are perched in the trees, turkeys are having breakfast, hummingbirds are making their nests in the garden.
While sitting and drinking coffee in the terrace of the house, hummingbirds and various birds are constantly fly and chirp among the trees and flowers.
Friendly and kind hosts, great breakfast.
Wonderful time spent.
- Barbara (9/5): delightful b&b - Delightful small b&b (it has just one room!), managed by a very welcoming family. If you have basic Spanish, ask Alan to introduce you to the local flora and fauna. You will also have the opportunity to eat the fantastic breakfast cooked every day fresh for you by his wife while looking at birds. The room is large, very clean, and it has a TV with Netflix, which we enjoyed in the evening when it was dark early. The place is a 20-minute (not particularly nice) walk from the village, but it is very cheap to get an Uber or a taxi, so we did not have any problems with that. In fact, we loved not being in La Fortuna, which is not a particularly attractive village, but in the countryside, close to a small rio and a patch of forest. However, if you have a light sleep, mind that it can get noisy at night, as there are many dogs in the area.
- Andres (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing quiet place owned by a local family. Room was neat and comfortable. Delicious breakfast by the river the next morning. Recommend this place 10/10.
- Susan (8/5): Very good - A nice cabin, well set up. Very clean, a little out of town so really need a car. Delightful owners keen to share history and wildlife, great breakfast.
- Nina (10/5): The best accommodation so far! - nice hosts and very good breakfast in an scenic environment! Even saw some monkeys and a frog before the breakfast
Clean apartments
Very good location if you have a car (3 min outside of the town) Unfortunately the host and his family doesn’t speak English but he still likes to talk and you will understand him with using hand and feet :)
- Ramírez (10/5): Exceptional -
- Abby (10/5): Exceptional -
- Viktor (10/5): I enjoyed staying at this apartment a lot and would highly recommend it. - + We really appreciated the flexibility of the owner and his son. In order for us to make an early start every day, they adjusted the time of breakfast quite substantially.
+ Our expectations of the aparment were high based on the pictures and we were definitely not let down. The room is very good size, nicely decorated, finished to perfection. Sufficient storage space is a big plus.
+ The apartment is surrounded by a lush garden.
- Peck (9/5): While it wasn't quite what we expected, it was a very delightful stay. - The room itself was by far the nicest, most comfortable room we had during our trip to Costa Rica. The beds were comfortable, the design was pleasant, the shower got nice and hot, the wifi is great (there is even a large smart TV with Netflix), and the grounds are beautiful. Allan, the host, was extremely friendly and amenable, even when we needed breakfast at 4:30am. The breakfast was delicious, made by Allan and his son. He was also able to arrange a private taxi service to the SJO airport for cheaper than we had found elsewhere, and it was his other son who drove us; he was also very friendly and delightful to talk to, even with our limited Spanish. And Allan mailed our postcards for us! It is currently very small (just the one cabana so far, which has the advantage of feeling more like an airbnb than a hotel) and can be hard to find, though Allan has plans of adding more cabanas so I think it's recognizability will grow. There is no immediate front desk service; Allan and his family live off-site, but he is generally available by what's app. Be sure to communicate your arrival time so that you can coordinate check-in accordingly. He also does not speak much English, but he is very patient and friendly even if you don't know Spanish; we knew just enough to get by, and still had some very pleasant conversations with him (he loves to talk!), but I imagine this could throw some travelers off.
- Tara (10/5): Exceptional - beautiful garden and great location
- Emily (9/5): Lovely family owned bed & breakfast - Allan and his family were excellent hosts. They prepared us a generous breakfast each morning and were nice to chat with. The room was very clean. The property is a few kilometres outside of town but it wasn’t bad to walk in and the proximity to the El Salto rope swing is nice. The synthetic material of the bedding. Cotton sheets and a quilt would make for a more comfortable sleep.
- Melissa (10/5): Great place for your family - I like this property as it is a family oriented place. You will feel as home. The owner Allan is awesome and make you feel welcome. There’s nothing I can tell that I didn’t like.
