Guest Reviews
- Donovan (10/5): Wonderful little B&B in a great location. - Gail has a beautiful home located a couple of blocks from the ocean. With nearby parks and streetside public transportation. She was personable while respecting our privacy and even gave us a great meal recommendation (The Beagle was so good).
- Malin (8/5): -
- Jacob (8/5): Een heerlijk verblijf bij een heel gastvrije Gail. - De super zachte lakens. Een heerlijk bed. -
- Mary (9/5): Lovely stay. Quiet and convenient - Gail was a great host -
- Maria (9/5): Fabulous Historical Home Getaway - I appreciated the attention to detail of our host, and her passion for keeping a Historical home unique, authentic and comfortable! Her generosity and hospitality shined through with our breakfast carefully curated and fresh each morning, and all of our comforts taken care of. Thank you for making our stay so welcoming!
- Jordan (10/5): Home - Great location by the water and close to downtown and parks easy parking Nothing.
- Loraine (9/5): - Gail the owner was lovely and we got along right away. I enjoyed the whole stay.
- Teresa (9/5): Warm home stay in great neighborhood - Gail is one of those rare people who takes joy in supporting other people. She went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed and more!
The neighborhood is wonderful! Black out blinds would have helped for me.
- Glen (9/5): Superb - This B&B is very near the iconic Cooks Street Village of Victoria, VERY quiet in a well restored heritage home, with convenient parking in front of the home, room was very comfortable, with wide breakfast options. Stairways may be difficult for handicapped persons.
- Derek (9/5): Superb -
- Katy (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (9/5): I will book again. - Location was great.
- Jennifer (9/5): Enjoyable stay in a well-situated Heritage property with a terrific host - Location was great, near Cook st Village (15 min walk), Dallas Rd seawall, a neighbourhood mall (coffee, etc). Comfortable bed. Transit stops steps away. Wonderful welcoming host, baking/continental breakfast (I did not have the full breakfast ) and breakfast room overlooking a garden area. Although my room door did not lock, I had most of the top floor to myself and felt very safe.
- Jordan (8/5): Very good -
- Teresa (10/5): Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily stay there again - Friendly reception, home cooked foods and attention to detail.
- Macdowell (8/5): Great comfy bed ! - Homemade!
- Erika (9/5): Superb -

- Jeremy (8/5): Charming Suite in old Victorian House - but may not be for everyone. - The host, Gail is a very kind, generous and helpful person. The house is an old Victorian with a suite of rooms: bedroom, kitchen/dining/living room and bathroom on the second floor. This suite is for the exclusive use of the guest. Gail keeps it well stocked with fixings of a continental breakfast and kept giving us little extra treats during our 3-day stay. The whole place is utterly charming and comfy. Gail puts a lot of love into this house and it shows! The reason I only rate Seabirds Cottage an 8 is due to two factors that didn’t bother me or my wife but that prospective guests should be aware of in advance. One is that there is no lock on the bedroom door and, in fact, no door to the guest suite - just a curtain. The second is that the bathroom is very cramped because of a big old bathtub that takes up most of the floor space and is difficult to get in and out of. A curtain surrounds the tub but there is nothing to grab hold of should you slip. Also, there is almost no legroom between the toilet and the edge of the tub. As I said, no person with mobility issues could use this bathroom.
- Andrew (9/5): A very cozy set of upstair rooms for two in small neighood housr close to coast and downtown - Nice small house in quiet neighborhood, plentiful street parking, nice layout of upstairs bedroom and bathroom and small lounge room with small breakfast items including coffee and tea, refrigerator & microwave and toaster; coast and park are very close by, proprietor Gail amazingly gracious and accommodating . Highly recommended. cramped bathroom but everything there; no tv but not really missed; on then off then on again WiFi
- Jamie (10/5): Its a great location! Very nice and Gail made me feel very comfortable! - continental breakfasts was delicious, the English breakfast I had ordered for one of the mornings was plenty and good! I have nothing negative to say
- Tina (10/5): Exceptional - This is a beautiful heritage house with lots of character. It is spotlessly clean. Gail was a lovely host, very friendly and helpful. The bed was really comfortable. There was a little kitchen area with a coffee machine, refrigerator and microwave. And Gail provided some options for breakfast eg juice, Greek yogurt & granola, fresh muffin, porridge sachets, all much appreciated. The house is in a lovely serene area, close to the shore for a walk along the beach. It is only a short walk from Cook St Village. You could walk to downtown or get a bus. Would definitely recommend.
- Anialuczak (10/5): I can't wait to come back! - We loved the Victorian house and location. Our bed was extremely comfortable, and the neighborhood was very quiet. We were able to rest well after cycling for 50km every day. Our host Gail was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed staying at this beautiful property. One side of the bed did not have a beside bed table, but we improvised with small stool that we found in the hallway.
Perhaps Booking.com is to blame for this, but the cleaning fee is something that I will never get used to or accept as a normal state of affairs. I mean the room should be clean for guests that are staying and the price of the room should include this as a normal part of it, same as towels, running water, bed sheets etc. It is beyond me that we have to pay extra to have a clean room. I can make my own bed and wash dishes if that is what I'm paying extra for.
- Carol (9/5): We had a couple of days enjoying the village atmosphere. Walks along the beach and seeing local wildlife was a bonus and - Old world charm in a peaceful setting near the ocean and parks
- Viktoriya (10/5): Adorable place in Victoria - I enjoyed my stay in sea birds cottage a lot !!! Gail made my stay very enjoyable and made me feel like at home. She pays attention to every details and teases with delicious treats 🤤 room and facilities are very clean . Nice lobby is a great bonus: you may enjoy your breakfast there or like me , do a yoga.
And the last but not least: Gail was very kind and allowed a late check out.
Thank you, Gail! Will definitely come back ! WiFi was a little slow
- Murray (9/5): Superb - Gail, super great and was very helpful. Location is fantastic a little pricey, but reasonable. My mom said it was a little cold for her. But she’s 88!
- Beth (9/5): I was very glad to have had this time away, and happy that I stayed at the Sea Birds Cottage. - I really appreciated Gail's kindness and thoughtfulness. She responded so intuitively to my needs, and I felt cared for. She surprised me with some treats I wasn't expecting. So lovely.
- Patricia (8/5): We enjoyed our stay Gail! - A lovely heritage house, reminiscent of the home I grew up in. Gail the owner is very friendly and accommodating. We had a full breakfast one day and it was delicious. The continental breakfasts the other 2 days were very sufficient as well. Showering in the beautiful claw foot tub is a bit awkward as the shower curtain is all around and touches the body and is hard to keep water from splashing out. He shower curtain needed cleaning.
- Bernard (9/5): Great value for money when visiting Victoria - Charming cottage in Victoria. Gail, the hostess, is really nice and very helpful. Recommended.
- Reed (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (9/5): Very welcoming and this was a good base about 25 minutes' walk from downtown (or a no 7 bus ride). - Despite its somewhat old fashioned look, the property was very comfortable and met my needs well. Gail was a generous host and offered extra help when I needed it. Short walk to seafront. There was a microwave to heat food but I don't think anything to clean up with. No TV so had to make my own entertainment - others may find that more of a drawback.
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic location and Gail was a very hospitable host. We arrived late, but Gail was there to welcome us.Her home offered plenty of room and included a coffee maker, fridge, microwave and a lovely setting to enjoy a light breakfast. I would highly recommend a stay at Seabirds Cottage.
- Nerida (10/5): Clean, tidy and comfortable. Easy parking. - Quaint property. Clean. Nice touches like fresh baking for breakfast.
- Sayed (9/5): Superb - Gail's hospitality and generosity impressed us a lot. Hence, the location of seabird cottage is closest to the beach that we liked most. And the place is safe and secure to us that we would love to visit her and her cottage again.
- Brian (8/5): Very good - we loved the location. close to the ocean for early morning run
5 min. drive to downtown as well
- Kimberly (9/5): Wonderful accommodations! - Host was very nice. Large, clean room in a Victorian house. Has a separate area for dining and showering. All upstairs in the owner's home. Clawfoit tub is hard to shower in due to water spraying out, but I love taking baths in it!
- John (8/5): We enjoyed a very comfortable stay in a great location with a hospitable host. - My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at Sea Bird Cottages. We had a beautiful room, private bath, and a separate sitting and breakfast room. It was very homey and comfortable. Plus, it was in a great location in Victoria, near beach, Beacon Hill Park, Ross Bay Cemetery, and Cook St. neighborhood with restaurants and shopping. Finally, Gail was a very accommodating host and interesting person. Shower set up is dated.
- Heather (8/5): I was very comfortable in an idyllic setting - Lovely location.
The breakfast treats were much appreciated. Liked everything
- Cousins (10/5): I loved the accommodations, made my stay even more enjoyable. - Location was perfect for me as I planned on a walkable getaway. Felt very safe in the house and neighborhood.
I appreciated the little extras for breakfast 😋
- Dean (9/5): Superb -
- Alice (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kristin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katherine (8/5): For comfort, cleanliness, friendliness and value, this is your spot. - I booked this room about an hour before arriving in the evening. When I showed up, no one was there so I texted the contact numbers I found on the front door. The owner was super nice and accommodating. She has another BnB property near Sooke and that is where she was when I arrived at this place. She walked me through checking in and finding my room. It was easy and smooth and I felt quite comfortable with the whole process. She asked if I wanted her to make me breakfast in the morning and that it was $15 extra. I had food I needed to finish, so I declined breakfast. There is a room with coffee and tea makings as well as granola. There was a nicely set small table with utensils also. I had everything I needed. The neighborhood is nice and the house is a block from the beach and a nice boardwalk that you can take all the way downtown. The direct walk downtown is through a nice, average, safe, neighborhood and also a park that puts you near the Empress Hotel (where they actually use Empress Gin for their cocktails which is a treat) and the walk takes about 20-25 min at a steady pace. I would definitely stay here again. The photo on the booking website shows a modern house which is the property next door. An accurate photo would have made it easier to locate, but the houses are numbered so it wasn't hard to find. This is an old Victorian house that has a lot of character.
- Robin (10/5): Exceptional - The cottage was clean, quiet, comfortable and pretty. Gail was very kind and attentive. I love the location and would definitely stay there again! She brought us a lovely little breakfast and even sent us on our way with cookies! Behind her house is a beautiful rocky hill with an amazing view. A romantic place!
Just FYI: Perhaps this is clear in the listing, but I didn't realize that Gail shares the upper floor with the rental space. So the upper floor consists of a bedroom with a queen size bed and bathroom and a secondary bedroom that also holds a small kitchenette and table. These were included in our rental. And then down the hall, on the same floor is also the host's bedroom. She uses a separate bathroom downstairs.
- Lara (1/5): Would not recommend this accommodation. - Location was good. Host was late- check in was 4pm-7pm- host called to say she was running late and would be there at 4:30pm- this was appreciated. I had to text Gail at 5:30pn to see if she had arrived. She was there but got distracted talking to her neighbour rather than communicating with us that she had arrived.
Rooms were not secure- no lock on rooms. Belongings left in room were accessible to host as well as any other customer.
Reserved a triple room- expected two beds in same room, it was two separate rooms, neither could be locked.
Bathroom was shared between 3 rooms- we were told that we were the only occupants the first night. We expected a private bathroom, and not one that would have been shared with strangers.
Breakfast was offered at an extra charge of $15.00/person
Bed was not comfortable.
The fridge in the other room kept making noises- unable to sleep.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - Gail is magnificent! Great breakfast 😋
- Gertie (8/5): Gail was super friendly and helpful!! It was a great location from which to see Victorie - She specially made us scones. Breakfast was simple but good The place did not have much curb appeal but inside it was neat, clean and very nice
- Maryam (10/5): The accommodations were magnificent, very clean and the superb host! - Clean Cozy rooms, location, great host. nothing
- Winona (7/5): Good -
- Jan (7/5): Very pleasant and well run - Location- excellent. Near Dallas Road re biking, walking swimming and people watching. Very interesting cemetery opposite location. A small tv. would be an asset.
- Florence (10/5): lovely, welcoming and cosy - The owner is kind and so helpful. The breakfast was more than I expected and so tasty! The bed was lovely, it felt like home, which for me as I have been travelling for 3 months was such a nice feeling. a bit noisy with the neighbours doing some building work, but it didn't bother me too much as I'm a heavy sleeper
- Andrei (10/5): The old house with a wonderful hostess! - The wonderful old house almost on the ocean beach. Quiet place, very clean and comfortable. An amazing hostess Gail, who can tell you a lot about the history of the house and the city. We really enjoyed the breakfasts and all the time spent there.
