Central location within walking distance to Rijk Museum, Anne Frank Home, Canal tour, Dam Square, Central Amsterdam Train station ! Many restaurants close by. Beautiful garden terrace. Host was extremely kind & responsive to all our questions. Highly recommend!

The 2 big chairs in the room meant space for cases was restricted. Limited hanging space. Separate guest toilet up steep stairs but Marc offered us the use of his, which was close by, if we preferred.

• caterina (9/5): Siamo state benissimo, non saremmo più ripartite - Posizione eccezionale e host gentile e disponibile durante tutto il soggiorno. Giardino privato meraviglioso e dotato di tutto il necessario. Il bagno con lavandino doppio e doccia grandissima invece è annesso alla stanza. Era noto che il bagno con wc è al piano superiore raggiungibile con scala a chioccola. Se posso fare una piccola osservazione, migliorerei la luce nel bagno in stanza e le prese di corrente vicino al letto.

• Adrian (10/5): The place to stay in Amsterdam. Within walking distance of everything. - The property, location, and host were all first class. We were made welcome from the moment that we arrived, until the time that we left. Marc is a fantastic host 👏 There was nothing for us to dislike.
• Vishal (9/5): - Everything as described Everyone already mentioned about the toilet upstairs the winding tiny stairs, so we had a heads up. I guess if they were normal stairs, it would have been no problem, but as they were very tiny and steep, it did feel mentally a bit constraining. But also it's supposed to be the Dutch charm of that building, as that's how it's supposed to be unless modernised.

• Roul Benedict (10/5): Eine kleine Oase mitten im Zentrum von Amsterdam bei einem tollen Gastgeber - Das Zimmer befindet sich quasi in der Wohnung des Vermieters, ist aber ausrecihend abgetrennt. Wer für solche unkonventionellen Lösungen offen ist, wird von diesem Domizil begeistert sein. Die Straße selbst liegt super zentral und dennoch sehr ruhig. Da das Zimmer zum wunderschönen Garten aus gerichtet ist, schläft man selbst bei offener Tür zur Terasse absolut ruhig. Marc ist ein sehr freundlicher, offener und hilfsbereiter Gastgeber, man fühlt sich wie zuhause! Nichts

He was very helpful and would always answer our questions & help with local transport etc. The location was brilliant and it was good value for money. We were close to the city but the area was quiet so we got a good nights sleep. The terrace was lovely to sit and chat & the room was light and spacious. The building itself is beautiful, would highly recommend and we would stay here again. As many people have mentioned the bathroom is up some spiral stairs but it wasn’t a major issue for us.

• Carrie (9/5): Wonderful B&B, very clean, comfortable, easy walking to all, and the owner is super to work with! - This B&B was very nice and clean and spacious. The owner, Marc, was wonderful - very warm, communicative, easy to reach and talk to, and he made this a great experience. He even went the extra mile on our last morning to review our train reservations and to give us some different options since our scheduled train had been cancelled. He really saved us and we were very grateful that he was so willing to help us like he did. Truly, a great guy! One other big bonus was the gorgeous ceiling of classic antiquities including medallions and very old busts and designs. I think Marc said they were from the 1400s and were found when refurbishing the house. Super cool!! Although everything about our stay was excellent, the only thing we would have preferred was if we had had an ensuite toilet. We did have a dedicated toilet upstairs. We realize this was an old house that had been completely updated and remodeled, and know that adding the toilet to the room would have been very expensive, but that was our only minus.

It is worth noting that the toilet is on a separate level which is fine if you are mobile enough but stairs are steep, very enjoyable stay Marc was a great host Garden is lovely and especially useful if you are there in summer i imagine :)

We loved our stay in Amsterdam. All was good. But do keep in mind that there is a spiral staircase to the private toilet. Fine for us but would be tricky if you have mobility issues.

• Tait (2/5): So much of our precious time was wasted trying to find bank machines for cash that cost extra $100. - The payment method was inconvenient. It cost us an extra $100 because we had to get cash from a bank machine that came with additional fees. I was not told ahead of time that the payment had not gone through and 4 weeks ahead of time was needed. There was no other alternative payment methods allowed. Would not stay again because of this. Every other booking I was able to pay directly with my credit card ahead of time except here.

• Annette (9/5): It was lovely to stay in the older part of Amsterdam among the character-filled historical buildings. - Empiric was a lovely place to stay, very close to everything we wanted to see and with easy access to trams and trains. The front hallway was stunning and although the weather was cool because it was early in the season we still enjoyed our view of the garden every morning. The staircase could be a bit challenging for older people at night, but Marc allowed us to use the other toilet on the same floor we were on, which was very helpful.

• Graham (7/5): Many positives, BUT… - The high point is the glorious garden. But to that you can add the comfortable bed, the cleanliness overall, the quality shower room, the fact that there is a fridge, the extensive range of the TV channels, and the helpfulness of the host. Topping all of that is the location in a very attractive, easily accessible, non touristic neighborhood within walking distance of practically everything. It is one thing to have a toilet outside one’s room but it is quite another to have it on the floor above! This is not mentioned in the apartment blurb - although I knew about it from the reviews. The access to the room itself - as well as to the toilet - is by way of a steep iron spiral staircase - also not mentioned in the blurb. You are forewarned!
• Stephanie (10/5): Exceptional - My stay here was great. The room looks better in person, was spacious, and quiet. The bed was very comfortable with great pillows. The location was perfect and I would recommend staying in this area to walk to all the sites. Marc was very nice and friendly, and you are able to leave your luggage with him before check in and check out. As others have said, the toilet is located outside the bedroom.

Marc was amazing we could not have asked for a better host. The toilet was on another floor which could make it difficult for people Who need to get up In the night . Well equipped room with a nice outside area for two people in attached yard/garden. Only thing to be aware of is that the stairs are very steep and narrow to reach the room and the toilet is separated from the room in the ground floor. Not a problem for us but could be good to be aware of for those with limited mobility. Otherwise, highly recommended place to stay for couples etc.

The manager was very strict with the time of check in and persistent to call your number to question your arrival time. Check out time is strict too. In all I didn’t enjoy staying here as much as I feel like I was on the nerve of fail the property rules.

• Graham (10/5): Delightful peaceful bolthole from which to easily explore the best of Amsterdam - The location was superb. The room was stylish and super comfortable, with access to and seating in the most delightful garden. (Who guessed those iconic Canalside houses had gardens!) The ensuite shower/wash room was well-equipped, nice towels and toiletries. The room had all one could need, fridge, kettle, hairdrier, tv etc. Marc was helpfulness and charm exemplified; very easy to communicate with. He was very keen to help us navigate and enjoy Amsterdam, with directions and recommendations. Oh and the room was super quiet and peaceful; we slept like logs! Anyone with significant mobility issues, just be aware, the spiral staircase to access the room is narrow and steep. But we’re no spring chickens and we’re fine. I was very worried about the toilet not being in the room, and I guess I would have preferred one in the room, but do you know, it was absolutely fine (and private) even for night-time visits.
• Emma (10/5): A Gem - Marc is an excellent, exceptionally thoughtful host, and this room is a wee gem in this peaceful, historic part of the city. The huge bed and feather pillows are the stuff of dreams and we loved relaxing in the lush back garden. Marc provided recommendations for travel, places to visit and where to eat and made our stay thoroughly enjoyable. The building itself is from the 17th century with breathtaking bas-reliefs in the entrance hall, commissioned by the building's first owner for his wife. We wished we had booked for longer

Although there was a big bathroom with a big shower and 2 sinks, for structural reasons, the toilet couldn't be inserted in the bathroom, so we had to use a toilet outside the bedroom, always clean.

Whether you're strolling along the picturesque canals, visiting world-class museums, or sampling delicious local cuisine, everything is conveniently close by. Upon arrival, I was delighted to find that the accommodation is incredibly easy to reach from the airport, allowing for a seamless transition into the city. The host warmly welcomed me and provided helpful tips and recommendations for my stay, ensuring I made the most of my time in Amsterdam. One of the highlights of my stay was the charming backdoor garden, offering a peaceful retreat from the bustling city streets. With direct access from my room, I enjoyed relaxing in the garden with a cup of coffee in the morning. While the toilet not being en suite could be considered a minor inconvenience, the host went above and beyond to accommodate guests' needs. Although the private toilet is located on the upper floor, the host graciously allowed access to another toilet on the same floor as the room during the night, ensuring comfort and convenience throughout my stay. Overall, my experience at EMPIRIC Keizersgracht was nothing short of delightful. From its prime location and friendly host to its charming garden oasis, it truly embodies the essence of Amsterdam's charm. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone looking for a memorable stay in this vibrant city.
