Guest Reviews
- Isabela (8/5): - O banheiro era grande, quarto confortável. A localização
- Stephanie (10/5): -
- Philip (10/5): Really lovely place to stay - We liked the facilities—shared kitchen, place to sit outside and hammock. Really friendly owner. Cute coffee shop on the property. Not that far to walk to the beautiful beach. Enjoyed the howler monkey visits.
- Kathy (3/5): I would definitely not stay or recommend this hotel. - Natalia was very helpful. We killed about 3 dozen ants. When I told the owner the next morning he said well yes we had a problem a couple of years ago. He made no apologies and didn’t seem concerned.
I discovered that morning there was a gap around the door and I’m sure that’s why there were ants AND the A/C had to work overtime to compensate.
Our room was on the front and we heard traffic all night.
- Bárbara (8/5): Linda estadía! - La ubicación era buena. La habitación era muy linda, el baño lindo y cómodo. Buena atención del personal. No hay nada que no me haya gustado.
- Bruna (9/5): Lovely place and very friendly staff - Very cosy vibe. Rooms are spacious, confortable beds. There is free coffee in the morning and a kitchen you can use. Staff is so friendly, helped us to find a place for scuba diving nearby.
Walking distance to the beach (10min by walk) and restaurants around. Absolutely loved it! Not much water pressure if you want hot water under the shower.
- Tomás (9/5): Genial - Indudablemente el servicio, el personal muy amable. Realmente la atención recibida personalizada, así que fue una linda experiencia que repetiremos.
- Brian (10/5): -
- Anat (7/5): - The room was very simple and no atmosphere, close to the road with tragic noise, yet the stuff were very friendly
- Emily (10/5): Fantastic location and comfortable stay at Indra Inn, in the wonderful Playa Grande - We stayed for one night at Indra Inn, whilst on a two week road trip. We were pleasantly surprised with the room and shared facilities in the open kitchen. Our double room was larger than we expected and the shower room was spacious. We had expected to have a fan in the room so were surprised that there was both a fan and functioning air conditioning. The bed was very comfortable and the room clean. The open kitchen was large and although we did not cook meals, there was everything that we needed to make coffee and prepare snacks.
I communicated with Indra Inn in advance of our stay, to organise a night visit to a near by beach with the hope of seeing turtles, and also getting out in a boat in the mangrove swamps in the morning. Natalia was very helpful and linked us up with an ethical and sympathetic guide who took us out for both tours, always mindful about the experience of animals we were sharing space with and ensuring we did not create any distress for the animals.
The location of Indra Inn is excellent. We were pleasantly surprised at the great vibe of the small town of Playa Grande, and the variety of places to eat within a 1 minute walk of Indra Inn. We walked to the beach, which was about 15 minutes easy walk. We also walked along Playa Grande to Playa de las Ventanas and there was an easy walk back from there to Indra Inn, with a few places to eat and drink along the way. The roads were quiet and felt safe. We were up early in the morning to get out on a boat trip but when we returned the noise from the road was noticeable when the fan in the room was turned off. I can't imagine that the road is ever so busy that road noise would be problematic for sleep, and there's very very little traffic at night, but this might be a consideration for some travellers.
Like most places we stayed on our road trip, the shower water was tepid - fine for us but just adding in case that's important for other people.
Playa Grande could be the kind of place to set up for a few weeks/months, working remotely. It's beautiful and very relaxing. And great surf in the area. There was a remote worker in the room next to us, holding a lengthy business meeting at some volume on the terrace outside. Personally, as someone who needed to get away from and not think about work for a short while, this was a little annoying as the 'business' impacted on our experience in our room. It's a small thing, and the only time we experienced this in Costa Rica ... but if this is a regular occurrence at Indra Inn then an etiquette refresh/reminder might be required.
- Henry (10/5): Outstanding - Matt and Natalia are great, super helpful and friendly.
Rooms and communal area are excellent.
Prime location a few minutes walk from the beach: hire a bike!
The surrounding nature - turtles, birds etc. - is wonderful. Hard to improve on this place!
- Javier (10/5): -
- Menco (9/5): - Op loopafstand van het strand en een goede soda (lokaal restaurant) Niks
- Jean (10/5): Great/Convient location Good Price - Nice room. Great location. Natalia and Matt great hosts. Walk to the beach and restaurants.
Coffee every morning in the shared kitchen N/A
- Patrick (8/5): Very good - Comfortable bedroom and good ventilation (given the hot weather outside).
Good wifi. A small table in the bedroom would be a nice plus.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Manuel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sxmsebas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing hosts. Matt and Natalia are so great with sharing information about the beaches and the history of playa grande. Nothing
- Davina (8/5): Very good -
- Richard (9/5): Absolutely wonderful property. Well recommended. - Wonderful property. Fantastic owners and staff. Lovely location (close to beach). Great room and facilities (including the
kitchen). Nothing.
- Starr (10/5): Good stopover that was quite easy - It was comfortable, clean and easy access. The staff was helpful and enjoyable to talk with Nothing
- Ben (10/5): Booked 1 night, extended to 4! Would love to have stayed even longer! - Hosts were genuinely friendly & helpful (previous travellers themselves, and now settled down, so know how to create a great hostel/hotel surfer vibe). About 800m walk to an awesome unspoilt (no tourists!) beach, with plenty of surf shacks to hire / buy equipment, A peaceful location, but with a great opportunity to meet other travellers & locals. Approx 100m walk to local shops. Really comfy beds / air-con rooms / very clean / plenty of space in the well stocked kitchen / spacious fridge & freezer. Really chilled outdoor space with hammocks to rest in. Would love to pick fault with the hotel, but genuinely can't!
Not a complaint, but note that: The surrounding area is a "traditional surfing village", that is slowly developing, so expect peaceful vibes rather than busy / party nightlife.
- Ruud (8/5): Very good - Was simple habitat but enjoy it so much nice people excellent owner All
- Diane (10/5): Chill place to stay with great hosts. - Indra Inn had a great vibe. People staying respectfully shared the well stocked kitchen and sometimes company. There is a full library and hammocks for lazy afternoons. The owners are attentive and kind. Within 10 minute walk from restaurants and beach and small markets. The walk is on a Main Street with no sidewalks. I’m just not a huge fan of playa grande. Very hot beach with little shade and not a lot of character compared to other places I’ve been in Costa Rica.
- Keith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sebastian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bethany (9/5): Superb - Very cute property close to Playa Grande! Friendly staff. Comfortable beds. Use of kitchen is good. The AC randomly shut off for us - it did so twice for us including one time when we were sleeping and we woke up sweaty and gross.
- Damon (10/5): Good feels oasis near the beach. - Natalie and partner were fantastic from start to finish, even giving us an upgrade for free after one night.
Magical little oasis full of good feels and great people. Loved our room and would absolutely stay again Nothing not to like.
- Marc (7/5): Good - The hotel has beautiful gardens and common spaces including shared kitchen. It is located 10 minutes away from the beach, and has several good restaurants and bars nearby. Staff are friendly and helpful. The room was very clean. They have two categories of rooms for the same price: the ones that fit the description and the pictures are rented to long-term guests, while people who rent for 2-3 nights like us are given worse rooms near the common areas, without washing machine, safety box, terrace nor garden views (as mentioned in the description).
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ana (7/5): Good -
- Barbet (7/5): Cool, smooth, root - Nice place, if you like root and close to a surf beach ! Owners are very gentle and full of good advice. The rooms are clean, but don't expect luxury.
- Jose (9/5): Superb -
- Lucas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jim (8/5): Very good -
- Magdalena (10/5): Exceptional - the room was exactly as described - comfortable and clean. The hosts are friendly and accommodating. The kitchen was equipped to make meals for our toddler and to keep our perishables. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay.
- Jean-luc (9/5): Superb - Everything
- Bianchi (9/5): Superb - The owners are super friendly and helpful responding to our every need like booking turtle tours last minute. The kitchen was available for use 24/7. The room was spacious and shower big. Parking right in front of the place. Our door was difficult to open and close (needs fixing).
- Giacomo (10/5): Exceptional - I had great time, The owners, Matt and Natalia, make you feel like at home and they provided me a lot of incredibly useful suggestions who have made my experience in Playa Granda and in Costa Rica fantastic!!!
- Nicolò (10/5): Exceptional - Kind and professional staff; comfortable room and nice position!
- Sophie (7/5): Good - Very friendly staff and easy to find. Car parking direct in front of the hotel.
- Joshua (10/5): Felt less modern and more economical in a amazing way. - Not too far from the beach, staff got us checked in a little early to our rooms.
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - We were here to work so did not spend much time at the hotel. The communication leading up to the stay was excellent. The staff were very friendly. The breakfast is simple but good. eggs, pineapple or yogurt with granola. They also offered orange juice or coffee. The room was clean and the ac worked. It was quiet at night.
- Jan (8/5): Very good -
- Paula (7/5): Good - The room was ok, good size for 2, private clean bathroom, cleaning service during the stay, good breakfast, laundry service for 10$. Super quite place which was nice but 15min walking to the closest beachs
There was nothing wrong with my stay, just after it, I think it was not worth the money after have been in 10 hostels/hotels. Maybe I expected more for the price we paid, facilities need renovation, very small, and definitely the place miss a swimming pool, even a small.one
- Ricardo (9/5): Superb -
- K (10/5): Indra Inn was an exceptional place to work and play. Shared kitchen was always clean and available.i - Breakfast was always awesome. Hosts were the best of the best.
- Mauricio (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was good, nice service and friendly staff.
- Paul (9/5): Really great, lovely people, Natalie is very nice - highly recommend. - Breakfast was great. Good vibe in the whole place. Natural woods everywhere. Hammocks were great. NA

- Jason (10/5): you can’t find a better spot in a surf town. - even the beds are comfortable.
- Smith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elliot (5/5): wierd gringo owned it didn’t like his vibes - not a lot a lot
- George (10/5): Exceptional - Great place. Amazing people. Matt is the best! So is his family.
- Wyonne (10/5): Amazing boutique hotel, highly recommended. - The breakfasts were delicious. The host went above and beyond in arranging tours and finding the best deals and troubleshooting the occasional tour glitches. ♥️ the beds were extremely comfortable and the outside hammock was my happy place! A lot of construction traffic. But not the fault of Indra inn.
- Melissa (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (9/5): Superb - Matt and Natalia were great! Very nice and helpful in every way. Very firm bed.
- Roëll (9/5): Great hosts! Great facilities! - Matt and his wife wend beyond everything to sort out how we could get to manuel antonio. The shuttle got canceled and they tried to fix it for us! The matresses are really thick and comfy for one. Because our matress was worn in the middle so as a couple you both would roll to the middle
- Marcie (10/5): Perfect vibe. 🥰 - Great vibe with Dharma brother Matt to begin my immersion into sacred medicines.
- Tsaimei (9/5): Nice beach inn with all the convenience - We enjoyed walking to the Grande beach & restaurants nearby. It was located at a nice safe area with a parking space & great breakfast. The owners are very friendly & speak good English. We had an enjoyable stay there. The room was a bit dark. It was half an hour drive to Tamarindo beach.
- Jessica (9/5): Great for a few nights - Great Location, 10 min walk to a dream Beach.
Super friendly hosts & we loved the nice cats.
Breakfast was really good & freshly made. Mattress was not that comfortable & the street a bit noisy for us
- Astrit (10/5): Exceptional - Standard hotel like in north america
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - really lovely rooms and communal space. great breakfast and very helpful hosts :)
lovely kitchen also! the wifi wasn’t the fastest but that’s a small issue
- Bryce (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast included was fantastic and the owners were very kind and helpful.
