Guest Reviews
- Sam (8/5): -
- Cecelia (8/5): Convenient, clean, lovely and friendly. - Convenient, clean and very friendly staff. There are stairs so not for everybody but not a problem for most. It was perfect for our weekend in the city. The breakfasts were tasty and beautifully served. I would return.
- Kai Siang (9/5): Overall great stay due to perfect location and very walkable and quiet neighborhood. - Awesome location. Cute house. Wonderful staff like Dennis who was very accommodating to our late checkout. You don’t get a choice for breakfast. Luckily I eat almost everything so it was not too much of a problem.
- Victoria (10/5): Great location, lovely heritage building, excellently decorated and wonderful staff. - The house was gorgeous, the location was perfect and the staff were so friendly and accommodating. Would definitely stay here again when I come back to Vancouver Nothing, everything was great.
- Carolyn (9/5): -
- Matt (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay, we will be back to Barclay House B&B!! - Walking distance from shops and restaurants. Dennis the host is fantastic. My wife and I will come back to Barclay House when we make it back to YVR!!! I liked it all.
- Marsha (9/5): -
- Alexandra (10/5): Just like home - Very friendly staff, very cozy, nice clean room, sweet and savory breakfast, excellent location.
- Giuliana (9/5): - The location is excellent, with many amenities and restaurants within walking distance. Great communication at all times.
- Wendy (8/5): -
- Tanya (10/5): -
- Tanya (10/5): My new favorite staycation place - I love everything about this place. The location, the room, the staff (Abi was so welcoming and sweet). The vibe is luxurious and cozy at the same time and I can't wait to go back.
- Chin Ting (7/5): - Included breakfast and nice staff a bit run down
- Kavindra (3/5): Not going back. - The location was excellent in terms of exploring the downtown and waterfront area. It is on a low traffic street. The house is historic and has character. 1) Although a quiet street, there was road noise overnight that disturbed our sleep. So, I would not recommend it for a light sleeper.
2) An incident occurred in the breakfast room just as we sat that caused us to leave without breakfast. The details aren’t of interest to everyone but it very much spoiled our visit.
3) Our feedback to the property is that when a guest is requesting something (due to medical/dietary restrictions), it is perfectly OK to say you can not supply it (even though a couple of eggs isn’t an extraordinary request for breakfast) but an extended joke about a guest request in a cozy ding room with other guests is offensive. Your opinion of someone’s eating preferences might lack an understanding of the medical guidance they might be following.
- M Jane (10/5): -
- Sam (10/5): Lovely stay with great hosts and delicious breakfast. - Very nice hosts, delicious breakfast. Haidaway was dark and cozy - a little darker than I would have liked.
- Jason (8/5): I'll be back - The staff are very helpful and nice, breakfast was great, room was comfortable and the location was perfect everywhere i wanted to go Downtown was very close Daily clean up of room would be nice
- john (8/5): a cosy and friendly B&B close to supermarket and cafe. easy walk to Granville Island ferry. - Location very good, nice breakfast, helpful staff nothing in mind
- Hoai An (10/5): I would absolutely come back here - Convenient location, clean and lovely room with all the things I need, very good breakfast, host is responsive and welcoming.
- Kenneth (8/5): Lovely Edwardian house hosted by a very helpful host. Excellent position. - The room as a whole was of good size, clean, and included a jacussi, which we didn't use. The B&B is in an excellent position for exploring the whole of central Vancouver on foot: the waterfront, downtown, Granville Island and Stanley Park. The host, Dennis, was friendly, helpful and allowed us to leave luggage both before and after checking in/out. The part of the room with the bed was so narrow the bed could only be accessed by climbing over it from the foot end. Breakfasts were OK but I missed any offer of juice would have liked an alternative to a sweet muffin everyday.
- Parilee (10/5): - Beautiful old Vancouver home with a beautiful front porch complete with blankets for cool days and nights I loved everything
- Mariia (10/5): Cute, cozy and quiet place! - Cute, cozy and quiet place!
- Helen (9/5): Beautiful place and great location. - Beautiful building and friendly staff. Great location. Walkable to lots of attractions or on good bus routes. Pick up for trips and free shuttle bus stop for suspension bridge 5 mins walk away. Nothing
- Olena (5/5): - location The blanket is too hot and heavy; I would like to have a lighter bedspread
- Gregory (10/5): Lovely house, even lovelier hosts! Perfect as a relaxing place to wind up after exploring Vancouver. - The breakfast was incredible and much more than I was anticipating. The room was large and comfy with great attention to detail. I loved the effort that went into the small things: fresh cold water in the fridge, excellent turndown service, the level of care and love what was clearly put into the whole house. Plus, Dennis was a fabulous host! The only thing slightly negative I can say is that I (as a relatively tall man) didn't have a ton of leg room in the toilet room, but even that was not anything terrible.
- Connnie (10/5): We were thankful we chose Barcllay House - The attic room was very spacious with plenty of natural light. (3 skylights and large windows on both ends). They are very responsive on communications and worked with us on our early arrival. Breakfast is wonderful, and free parking was a bonus.. It is a historic house (if you need new and modern try elsewhere and leave this beauty for those who love historic homes) The location is perfect, as we could walk to Stanly park, Vancouver Place, and our favorite pizza restaurant in the downtown area. (Pacifico Pizza). I have to give a shout out to the owner and our fellow guests who we enjoyed chatting with at breakfast. (The couple who retired from farming to move to a big city and the couple who were there for their daughter's wedding). We had a great week end.
- Andreas (9/5): - Schönes Zimmer in ruhiger Lage nahe am Stadtzentrum. Das Frühstück war nicht sehr groß.
- Guido (10/5): Hervorragend! - Sehr liebevoll eingerichtet, tolle Lage, fantastisches Frühstück
- Everline (10/5): I enjoyed my stay,.staff was very helpful and communicated well. - The location NA
- Mitchell (9/5): - Location was great, walking distance to lots of food places and Stanley Park. Property located on a quiet street which made for a good sleep. Breakfast was great. Floor had a slight Incline when moving from the bedroom to the lounge room which I tripped on a few times.
- Younhyong (10/5): -
- Press (10/5): -
- Katsuno (10/5): Great stay! - We wished we had found this place earlier!
This place was fantastic. Specious, bed was comfortable, we had everything we needed and breakfast was great too!
We will definitely come back on our next trip!
- Max (10/5): -
- Anna Kattrina (10/5): The perfect place to stay at in Vancouver! - Mom and I loved everything! It was literally your home away from home. The location was tucked in a relatively more peaceful side but just a stone's throw away from Robson St. The property is a charming house along Barclay St that not only catches your eye from the outside but is as beautiful inside. The property manager is very hands on, and takes care of each guest very well that you feel like you're literally staying in Vancouver with a friend or with family. The staff were all kind and helpful. Delicious breakfast is curated carefully each day, brought to your table in the dining room every morning. The room we stayed in was thoughtfully designed, there were places for everything and the size was just right. It was helpful that the toilet was separate from the bath too! The rooms are cleaned daily and the property is secure. Overall we had a wonderful stay at the Barclay House and it was one of our favorite things about our trip to Vancouver. Nothing at all! We loved every single thing! Just to note that there are no elevators in the house but the staff readily helped us with our bags so it wasn't an issue at all.
- Nhu (10/5): Lovely place, welcoming host, amazing breakfast - The place was clean, safe and has everything we need. Back garden at night is lovely for a photo. Abi is very accommodating with our breakfast time starting a bit late. Breakfast was amazing and the dining room was gorgeous. Checking in and out is fast and easy. None
- Lisa (9/5): - Great location and very comfortable stay Shower over the claw foot bath is a little awkward with the shower curtain but it looks great!
- Victor (10/5): -
- Daniel (10/5): Una opción genial en Vancouver - Todo. Denise fue superatenta, agradable y entregada. El desayuno muy rico. Nada
- Bonnie (8/5): - This is very convenient location and clean for the price! we felt safe in a very busy city and having a parking spot was wonderful! The breakfast was filling. The decor is outdated, and timing of breakfast is limited and timing for check in is limited. There is no air conditioning, we slept with our door to the fire escape open with a fan but that worked fine.
- David (8/5): -
- Stephanie (10/5): -
- Jeff (10/5): Cozy and clean - Cozy and clean. Walkable to the bars and restaurants. Helpful management when needed.
- Marilyn (5/5): Rather disappointing for the amount we paid. - Good location, easy to walk to main street. The host was helpful in ordering us a taxi. Finding an old t-shirt down the bottom of our bed when we got in did not make for a good start to our stay! The sheets did seem clean and we were assured they were.
We would have preferred a choice of cereal, fruit and cooked breakfast instead of just being given one option. The shower was over the bath was very old school; having to make sure all the curtains were in the bath was rather annoying. The Room was a strange configuration and had a corridor to the toilet and bathroom where we had to leave our suitcases as the room with the bed in was rather small. The bedroom had a lock but the corridor didn't.
- Chris (10/5): Great! - Pretty much everything. I struggled a bit with the steps leading up to the bed. They were polished wood and thus a bit slippery.
- David (9/5): -
- Shreya (10/5): Perfect - Exceptional breakfast with fresh fruits, meal and beverages. Excellent Location. Admirable staff and hospitality.
- Serenity (10/5): Staying in Barclay House felt like being home and surrounded by family in a time we needed it most. - Upon check in we were greeted with the best energy and the home was filled with comfort and happiness. We visited during the Christmas season ; best decorated house on the entire street! Breakfast was amazing everyday, staff always remembered little details such as we liked milk in our coffee. That we needed to go home after 5 days only.
- Isabel (10/5): Liebevoll eingerichtetes Bed&Breakfast -absolut empfehlenswert- - Mit Liebe zum Details eingerichtetes Bed&Breakfast mit freundlichem Personal.
- van gastel (6/5): -
- Theodor (8/5): -
- Andrew (1/5): Take care when booking here. It is not clean. - Not much although the owner responded to our issues swiftly. We left our 3 night stay after 1 night and received a full refund. That tells you that the owner knows the property is not right. Our room was in the basement with noisy steps to the man house above.
The room was filthy and had a terrible odour. The furniture was stained and dirty and the carpet was very dirty.
My wife was bitten by bugs or some sort.
- Laura (9/5): -
- Connors (9/5): Great value, friendly staff, amazing location - Very friendly staff, nice comfy rooms, convenient parking. Breakfast was good. Location is very good, and felt safe. Walking distance from the convention center and Robson square. Our room may have needed a bit of updating - bathroom fan seemed broken as it was extremely loud, there was a splatter on the wall, and also our room had a locked door to another room that may need some soundproofing (it is right beside the bathroom and I think I startled and woke someone up while peeing in the middle of the night)
- carla (9/5): -
- Grace (10/5): A great place to stay! - Everything was fantastic. The host is friendly, helpful, and charming. The apartment is great for one person, a couple or 2 friends. Location is also fantastic. Will definitely book this again! Nothing
- LYNN (8/5): Very pleasant stay in an excellent location - Barclay House was a lovely accommodation which we enjoyed very much, the location was excellent, our room was in the basement so no view but it was unique and very pleasant. The only comment I have is regarding the breakfast; it was hard eggs in a pastry cup, tomatoes and melon - whilst it very nicely presented, we would have preferred the option to have something simple ie. toast & jam/cereals etc which we would have enjoyed more.
- Milly (10/5): The best B&b in vancouver - The best combination - amazing place and amazing host. This is a beautiful B&B located in nice and quiet west side of Vancouver in a charming old Victorian house. The minute you walk inside you get the feeling of a home away from home. Lovely decorated living room and dining area. We booked a room for 2 which had a nice size, micro, TV, little balcony. After 2 days the host from his own good heart upgraded us to another room which was even nicer and bigger. Each day he cooked a different and delicious breakfast. The location is also super - safe neighborhood, 5 min walk from the main Robson st, 5 min from grocery store and from a good bakery. As said the host was super nice, helpful, warm and welcoming. He even did our 2 weeks laundry with taking any extra. He had great tips and you could have tell that he really do care. If in the city again we will sure be back to this place, thank you Dennis! Nothing
- Shinichiro (10/5): Excellent - The breakfast was excellent and the room was very comfortable. None
- Jacobson (9/5): Charming lodging in compact area of West End. - Well-maintained older home with vintage charm. Excellent location for short walks into dining areas. Also good location for driving or bicycling to various sites breakfast and staff were excellent. Fun to visit with other travelers over breakfast. Parking available a plus.
- Knuth (4/5): Disappointing, but the location is good - I enjoyed the area that this residence is in. I enjoyed the beauty of the outside of the house as well as some of the inside. Is very difficult to try to get a hold of the owner. I had called multiple times months in advance and could not get a hold of him to confirm the reservation. I was wondering, even if it was a scam. He was a little abrasive when we got there. The room itself was OK. It was a bit hot and there was a mouse in our room. The breakfast was given to us without much choice.
- Travellerji (7/5): A nice place to stay. - Beds were very comfy. Good amount of tea bags/coffee sachets.
The host is very very helpful. Our baggage was delayed and he did all he could to facilitate delivery of the bags. He let me do local and national calls for free from the in room phone.
The host gave his mobile number to contact him 24x7 for any difficulty, a rare service really.
Got a home cooked tasty breakfast each morning.
The B and B is in a very nice neighbourhood of Vancouver. The city centre, Robson street (for shopping) and Stanley park are nearby. We had the deluxe room. A few queer features like an in room jacuzzi. The bathroom had a frosty glass in the wall, so someone in the room could see the figure of the person taking a shower. Some people may be OK with this but we found it uncomfortable because we went as a family. I gues one can put a temporary curtain on the glass.
- Eve (10/5): A beautiful home from home in the heart of the city. - A beautiful location, quiet but in the heart of the city. It felt extremely homely, with blankets to sit on the veranda and a living room. Our bedroom was really comfy, we wished we could have stayed longer. The host was so friendly and flexible and breakfast was delicious! Absolutely nothing, it was perfect for us!
- Christopher (10/5): Exceptional - Barclay is the best B&B in Vancouver... I was lucky enough to choose this bed and breakfast nearly 15 years ago and absolutely loved it. Today, I was able to return for a second experience with this lovely property and it's Top Notch host.
Like they say in real-estate, location is everything, and that definitely applies to the Barclay House.
- Ana (9/5): Superb -
- Allison (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robyn (10/5): Thoroughly enjoyed our stay Room was comfortable, host was friendly and informative and breakfasts were great - Location was excellent for exploring Vancouver sights of interest Nothing. Everything was fine
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tom (8/5): Very good -
- Jane (4/5): Very very average, not impressed. - Location Bfast was v v limited - take it or leave it! Very expensive for what it is. Property very very tired.
- Caroline (9/5): Superb - The breakfast was delicious and the decor was quaint. The staff were lovely. Location was nice to be just out of the downtown area. Room was little tight.
- Fiona (8/5): Affordable stay in a very expensive city . - Very clean and cosy . Loved the porch and the little sitting room in our room . Very comfy bed , soft linens . Good shower and bathroom
Car parking space very welcome . Breakfast was a little on the small side with no choice. Coffee was good
- Celia (9/5): Superb - Lovely old house and great service. Good to be able to check in early and leave our bags till lunchtime today. Veey helpful friendly staff Haida apartment is in the basement so whilst quirky it has no windows to open.
- Daniel (10/5): Very nice - Good location, clean
- Richard (7/5): Cozy convenient and friendly spot near English Bay Beach. Very good value for this stay! - Breakfast good
Location good Bathroom window outside area was pretty scary and dirty with what looked like cat feces.
- Stephen (9/5): Highly recommendable location--We would happily stay here again. - The neighborhood is really wonderful; Pleasant street; In walking distance for us (we are strong walkers for being old folks) to Stanley Park, English Bay, Coal Harbour, City Centre, Canada Place, and even Granville Island. Barclay House is an attractive, quaint building. The common sitting room and dining area are very attractive. The room we stayed in (Forest) is spacious. Breakfast was expertly cooked, elegantly presented, and the right size for us. The fixtures and furnishing were mostly good, but a mixed bag. For example, our washroom had an excellent bathtub as well as a good nightlight (a simple amenity too often missing), but it had no shelves on which to store our toiletries. The buildings on the street are closely spaced and our windows looked directly into neighboring apartments. One should be aware that the breakfast is a breakfast of the day, not a choice of various dishes or a buffet.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bob (9/5): Superb -
- Leanne (8/5): Lovely building, yum breakfast and fab location - Great location and gorgeous character filled house No juice offered with breakfast
- Milad (8/5): Very good -
- Jenna (9/5): Easy to access Stanley Park and the West End of Vancouver by foot - parking was included! - Breakfast, spacious accommodation, clawfoot bathtub, private entry
- Carolyn (10/5): Exceptional - The location was perfect. Breakfast was delicious and the owners/staff
were extremely kind and helpful. Nothing.
- Monica (10/5): Safe neighbourhood and very welcoming stay in the heart of Vancouver. - We stayed in the 'Hideaway' with a large spa bath.
The room was warm and very comfortable.
The breakfast was exceptional. Both mornings, the menu was different offering fresh fruit, cooked eggs and apples to go.
We would definitely recommend this piece of luxury.
The location was the best. Easy to walk around and very safe with restaurants very close by. Stanley Park, Downtown and Robson Street was just a few blocks away No bubbles for the spa but was great to just relax in the tub anyway.
- Gary (8/5): Very good -
- Ana (10/5): Above and Beyond - Chef's kiss to that breakfast. We loved it! Dennis was kind, understood our situation, and gave us precise instructions. The black book inside the room is lovely! The room itself is a gem. I have to write something, so I'll tell you that I had to put the black book in the window with the kettle to make the room darker because I can't sleep with something bright (like the outdoor light)
- Andre (10/5): Exceptional - I would recommend it to anyone going to Vancouver. Breakfast was excellent every single day, location is gorgeous and the customer service was 10/10!
If we go back to Vancouver that's the place I'll stay.
- Sharon (10/5): Exceptional - Very pleasant visit. Good sleep. Wonderful breakfast. We will stay again in the future!
- Vlado (10/5): Fantastic BNB in downtown vancouver - Everything it was cozy great location and the bed was comfortable in Japanese style. The hot tub was awesome but bring your own bubbles
- Lynn (8/5): excellent. Love Vancouver and the West End. - location, neighborhood, variety of eateries nearby, feel of a traditional house. Rear fire escape from upper floors (final ladder descent) needs professional inspection and appropriate signage.
- Hyun (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gale (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jana (9/5): Lovely well located place in Vancouver. - Lovely location close to many restaurants, the room was spacious with a view into the garden which was lovely but feel bit dark when the day isn't sunny. The fireplace in the room makes it really cozy. One wish would be slightly bigger breakfast. It was good but could be little bit more filling.
- Sean (9/5): Just what I was looking for, a great find. - Great
