Guest Reviews
- Barbara (10/5): Beautiful place - The hosts Gaia and Jack were amazing and always willing to help with information. The breakfast included exotic fruits and toasts with delicious homemade jams.
Highly recommended 🤍

- Kirsty (9/5): Matt was the perfect host. The fruit platters were delicious. Location was beautiful. - A very private and relaxed vibe.
- Katja (9/5): -
- Paul (8/5): -
- Lep (9/5): - Breakfast good with all local fruits, some from the property.
- Bandara (8/5): Lovely location, super nice host. - Lots of fruits, some exotic fruits as well.
The location was awesome, and we all liked it. Could use some air freshener in the room and the kitchen.
- Jan (10/5): Had a wonderful weekend. Matt works hard to be a wonderful host. - The property was great. So comfortable. Not much. All was good. I struggle with coils or incense burning but mosquitoes were bad so they were needed.
- Manfred (10/5): Perfect place to connect with each other and nature - It's been the perfect place for some quiet and peaceful time in nature. The cottage is beautiful with books, board games, hammocks and other places to chill and enjoy the variety of birdsounds around. The hosts were very friendly and the breakfast was amazing with lots of fresh local fruits, toast, cereals and coffee. The cottage had no wifi which I enjoyed for some reconnection with nature and each other. I am suffering from back pain so the rather hard beds gave me some trouble sleeping.
- Christina (9/5): Delightful stay at an eco-friendly B&B in the heart of the Daintree Rainforest! - The history of this B&B is wonderful and Matt has put together a lot of resources to explain how its run sustainably as well as information about the Daintree area. Matt puts together a delicious seasonal fruit platter and toast with various spreads and jams. Everything was so tasty!! (especially the lemon butter). He very kindly gave us an free upgrade because no one was staying in the larger room and my partner and I had a lovely time reading on the outdoor bed that overlooked the front gardens.
- Margot (10/5): -
- Mario Alberto (10/5): - Our stay was a truly unique rainforest experience - a slice of paradise in the heart of the Daintree. The property is beautiful, rich in history, and the perfect rainforest getaway. One of the highlights was simply sitting and having a chat with Matt, the owner. He is exceptional - incredibly warm, welcoming and generous with his knowledge of the area, wildlife, flora and fauna and the hidden gems to explore. Due to the time of year we visited, the local tropical fruit tasting was closed. Though to our surprise, Matt offered an outstanding breakfast including a fruit platter of fresh fruits we’d never seen or tried before. An unforgettable experience. Nothing at all

Niets
- Marijke (10/5): Amazing place to relax and experience the rainforest. - The owner made us feel right at home, in the middle of the jungle. The atmosphere was very peaceful, we had nice chats with the owner and other guests and we relaxed very well. And on top of that we loved to sleep outside in the beds on the balcony! Nothing
- Pauline (10/5): Beautiful location and wonderful host - We had a wonderful time at Matt’s place! The house he built is beautiful and so is his garden and are the views of the mountains. He really took the time to get to know us and helped everyone with arranging things and making sure we’d visit the most beautiful places. Really special and it made us feel very at home. Thanks a lot Matt!
- Martina (9/5): -
- Markus (10/5): As always, it's the people who make all the difference - Matt is a star! - The Epiphyte is one of a kind, an extremely rare find in the middle of one of the most fascinating and beautiful places on this planet.
The host, Matt, goes out of his way to make your stay throughly enjoyable. Yes, most people talk about the great breakfast and fruit platters, which are indeed delicious. But most enjoyable during our 6 days at the Epiphyte were the conversations with Matt, his friends and the other guests, often during a prolonged breakfast or, in the evening, over a glass of wine. Matt has lived in the area for 35 or so years, has built the house with his own hands, and can tell you a lot about anything you wish to know about the Daintree and its people. We were invited to a little house party, with Matt and some of his friend playing keyboard, guitar and drums, while the sun set over Mount Thornton.
The Epiphyte is ideally located to explore the Upper Daintree, nothing is really far away. The night sky is very dark, great for star gazing (if it's not cloudy), the property is beautifully kept, clean and comfy, quiet at all time, fantastic if you want to relax. There are walks and trails nearby, some easy boardwalks, some more challenging and rewarding..
We left the place feeling as if we'd been friends with Matt for years. We will return next year, no question. Nothing, this place is perfect.
- Louise (10/5): - Location of the B&B, breakfast was beautiful, host was great. Nothing it was lovely.
- John (10/5): Fantastisch - Prachtige locatie Geen opmerkingen
- Clara (8/5): Autentisk feriebolig midt i naturen - Unik feriehytte midt i naturen. Afsides og autentisk. Dejlig morgenmad med mulighed for at møde andre rejsende Meget varmt om natten, da stedet er off grid dvs. ingen air-condition
- Nick (10/5): - Epiphyte is a wonderful property in a fantastic location. We were in room 4, with a private deck and hammock looking out to the forest. Had a really great time but to be honest I would have even stayed in the shed if it meant still getting those lovely breakfast and being in the company of Matt the owner.
- Kimberley (10/5): We had a great stay at the Epiphyte. The hosts were amazing. They helped with ideas as of what to do in the area and - Located right in the edge of the Daintree Rainforest made it a quiet and beautiful place.
- Jutta (10/5): -
- Martin MJM (10/5): Great 3 day stay, hosts and location were excellent. -
- Sergio (9/5): -
- Vikki (9/5): -
- Alex (8/5): -
- Geoff (10/5): Brilliant! - Epiphyte is set in a beautiful location, not many places where you can see a Cassowary stroll by the front door.
Jesse and Beth were great hosts, friendly, thoughtful, considerate and helpful. The shared breakfasts and fruit platters were another highlight allowing guests to be as communal as they felt comfortable with. The Cottage we stayed in was brilliant, clean spacious and comfortable. The eco nature of the establishment hits the right balance of giving one a chance to live very comfortably without all the stress filled mod cons that comes with a world so tightly entwined with tech. Nothing to think of
- Sarah (9/5): Cozy, rustic B&B in the heart of the rainforest - Gorgeous location, friendly staff, exotic fruit at breakfast. Saw a cassowary in the garden one morning! There's no air conditioning. It ended up being comfortable enough at night, but I can imagine summer evenings where that might not be the case.
- Richard (7/5): Prachtige plek en super vriendelijk - Locatie was top. Personeel super vriendelijk. Ontbijt heerlijk.
- DANIEL (10/5): - Tout Rien
- Marino (9/5): Unique stay in the tropical rainforest surrounded with wild life. - Amazing surrounding and wild life. Very healthy and tasteful breakfast. -
- Melissa (10/5): -
- Paula (10/5): The perfect relaxing stay. - The location of the B&B is on a stunning property surrounded by flora and fauna. It creates a relaxing and calming stay after a busy day exploring the Daintree.
The host couple are warm and welcoming.
The room is comfortable with plenty of space.
The breakfast is lovely, especially the fruit platter using fruits grown on the property.
It's great to stay in a property that is sustainable.
- Adalene (10/5): Superb - A magnificent stay with a warm welcome and great knowledge from the amazing hosts. Beautiful breakfast with exotic fruits of the region and the best view in the Daintree. Rooms very comfortable and felt like we were in the forest. Enjoyed the community feel getting to know the other guests. Wanted to stay longer - loved it!
- Maureen (10/5): -
- Lauren (10/5): Can't recommend this enough! - This place was awesome. Jesse and Beth did a great job hosting us. We felt right at home. There was Wifi, a beautiful breakfast, a spacious room (the garden room), and amazing surroundings. Being able to meet and chat with other guests over breakfast was another highlight of our stay. Nothing, highly recommend.
- TROY (10/5): -
- Ruben (8/5): -
- Peter (10/5): - A magic place to enjoy God's creation in the Daintree.
- Stefan (10/5): Loved it here. - Beautiful scenery and the amazing breakfast. Jessy and Beth were both spectacular hosts.
- Holly (10/5): Total relaxation in the oldest rainforest in the world - We really felt like we were in the rainforest. The couple who looked after us - Jesse and Beth, spent time showing us around, giving us recommendations and preparing amazing breakfast each day using homegrown and local fresh produce. N/A
- peter (9/5): -
- Timothy (9/5): -
Colazione eccezionale.
Struttura a bassissimo impatto ambientale.
Collocazione straordinaria nel mezzo della foresta. Nulla.
- SIMON (8/5): -
- Ulrich (10/5): An oasis in the rainforest I can’t wait to return to - The location, the hosts, the environmental awareness, the rooms All good
- Ben (10/5): Beautiful cabin surrounded by jungle - Beautiful cabin surrounded by bush and an outdoor kitchen as well. Stunning Nothing
- Kynance23 (9/5): Off grid paradise - Matt, the host, was extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was magnificent, so many fruits that I'd never heard of before, let alone tasted.
Rooms are clean and well appointed, I had a wrap around balcony looking into the rainforest with 2 sets of tables and chairs and a wonderfully comfortable hammock.
For a 100% off grid property, the amenities were great, electricity for charging devices, good pressure shower and hot water.
Very close to cow bay beach and a fabulous ice cream cafe on the entry road to the property.
It's clear that this property has been a lifetime's labour of love. So grateful he is happy to share this wonderful property. What's not to like?
- Carrie (10/5): - Scenery, host, visiting with other guests Na
- Christine (10/5): - It is an amazing place to spend some time in the rainforest. Matt is a very lovely chap and offers a lot of useful information. The bed (room 1) was really comfy and the (fruity) breakfast together with the other visitors was a nice bonus. We would recommend everybody who likes nature to chose this accomodation!
- Thomas (10/5): Absolute fantastic stay in the middle of nature - It was just an awesome stay! Unfortunately we have been at the Epiphyte just two nights because you could stay there and its surroundings the entire day easily and relaxe in the middle of nature on the highest level.
The entire accommodation is self sustained but that is not a problem in any way except you are asked to don’t waste energy.
There were nearly no mosquitos end of July so we have even slept one night in the outside bed on the terrace just meters away from the rainforest with all its nature sounds of the night. Even our 7 y/o daughter thought is was a fantastic experience
Our host Matt who built the entire house may years ago is such a charming, heart-warming person, down-to-earth and so helpful. He couldn’t be a better host. At the very end of our stay he even didn’t hesitate a second to help us to pull out our car from a side ditch and saved our day.
We are sure: if we will return to Daintree again, we will book the Epiphyte again - but this time probably more than two nights:) Nothing
- Brendan (8/5): - Hospitality and location Nothing
- Sandra (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay at Epiphyte immensely. Matt was welcoming, warm and friendly and was happy to offer advice and information about getting the most out of our stay (eateries and activities/tours). Epiphyte is a beautiful hand built B and B in a beautiful and peaceful setting, with private areas to rest or hang out on your own or with other guests. The accomodation is very comfortable and well maintained. Breakfast was included and was an amazing plate of tropical fruit, cereals, toast and delicious homemade jams. Thank you Matt - we recommend highly and would love to return and stay longer next time. There is nothing to dislike at this B and B
- Alan (9/5): Great place to stay - This is a unique place, nestled into the rain forest. The host Matt could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The bathroom was on the verandah which was private so ok but it was small and the towels had to be hung outside the door. A couple of hooks inside would have been handy.
- Keith (10/5): - Fantastic location and matt was very acommodating and was very knowledgeable., it was an absolute pleasure to stay there. Would definitely recommend. Nothing
- Lara (10/5): - A beautiful place to stay! Matt is so friendly and knowledgeable about the area - he had some great recommendations about where to go and what to see. His hospitality was excellent - the communal breakfast was a great way to hear about other guests’ activities and trips. The communal seating areas are lovely, both in the afternoon and evening as a place to sit after dinner with some stunning views. Bed was super comfy and room was very spacious. Lots to do and places to eat nearby too. A very relaxing 2 night stay!
- Lawler (10/5): - We had three amazing days at the Epiphyte. Great location in the rainforest. Loved having the communal breakfasts chatting with the other guests from all around the world and sharing stories. Matt and family were always there with a story or a suggestion for somewhere to visit. Highly recommended! Nothing
- Norm (10/5): Love this place - Love the rainforest sounds. Great atmosphere and super hospitable host. Tropical fruit breakfast was delicious.
- Alice (9/5): We will definitely be recommending this B&B to our friends and family. - We stayed in the Hibiscus Cottage for 4 nights. The cottage was beautiful and well-equipped, and easy to get to all the local attractions. We also loved the breakfast. Matt and his family were so accommodating, we felt very relaxed and enjoyed every minute of our visit.
- felisia (10/5): Epic escape - The host and his beautiful family, Matt his daughter Sonia and grandchild Theo. The whole history of the accommodation is epic and should be made into a documentary. The rainforest surrounding is priceless.Highly recommend a stay here. Bliss 😊 I would have liked more time there
- Wesley (9/5): Great B&B in the rainforest - Excellent location, excellent breakfast. That we only booked for 2nights
- Esther (10/5): Memorable and authentic - Matt and his family were super lovely and helpful. He shared great places we could visit which made our trip even better than expected. The cottage we were in was cozy and comfortable and we even got to see a cassowary! The breakfast with homemade jams and local fruits were delicious and prepared so well. It was also lovely meeting the other guests from all over the world. It was a memorable stay
- McClean (10/5): -
- Darius (10/5): Daheim im Daintree - Wunderbare Lage, herzlicher Gastgeber und tolles Frühstück
- Grant (10/5): Incredible rainforest getaway - Beautiful location nestled in the rainforest. Matt is a superstar host that goes above and beyond to make his guests feel welcome and included. His knowledge and passion for the Daintree forest and local area is commendable . The homestead is inviting, clean and very functional. Yummy seasonal local fruit plate at breakfast is a great start to the day.
- s (10/5): Quiet, very much in keeping with Cape Tribulation's character. Laid back and relaxing. - Matt was a lovely and helpful host. Place was really cozy and quiet. Breakfast was great, lovely to try the in-season tropical fruits. Nothing
- Claire (10/5): Fabulous - Connectedness to the rain forest. In harmomy with the rainforest. Peaceful. Warm welcome from Matt and very well looked after. Other guests very interesting. Our separate house had a kitchen but we could also use the communal kitchen and living space in the main house. Nothing. We likes everything
- wzzang (8/5): A relaxing and comfortable stay in the woods. - Matt is super friendly and welcoming, and the place is clean and well kept. I especially liked the fruit plate included with breakfast. My stay was too short to fully explore the surroundings.
- Petranka (10/5): - Being right in the Daintree Forest
Amazing
