Guest Reviews
- Gabriel (10/5): -
- Panagiota (10/5): - Amazing energy in this apartment
Real Rio neighborhood
- Rebecca (9/5): I would stay here again. - The hosts were very friendly and explained everything to do in the area and where to go. It was in a great location right at the top of Escadaria Selarón. We could walk to Lapa and to Santa Teresa. Breakfast had a lot of options and you could order eggs to be made on the spot. They had filtered water and you could buy water bottles. The beds were comfortable. There is a locked door to get into the main area so it was nice to be secure. It’s on a steep hill so not all Ubers will drive down the road. But you can walk to the top or bottom to get an uber. Room was very small, but worked well. Very small bathroom.
- Carole (10/5): -
- Sabrina (10/5): Me verás volver!
- Pedro (10/5): -
- Guido (9/5): -
- Tatjana (10/5): Homey, lovely staff, fantastic breakfast and awesome building - Location, fabulous staff, delicious breakfast and good room with great hot showers Nothing not to like

- Polina (10/5): It is a very cozy place to stay, staff is very welcoming, we felt like at home! Highly recommended. - Breakfast was amazing - eggs that are fried upon request, cheese and ham, fresh juice, fruits, and sweets! And, of course, different kinds of bread.
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic place to stay in Rio! In an ideal location, walkable to restaurants and bars in both centro and Santa Teresa. Beautiful spacious house, lovely staff and a great breakfast.
- Anja (9/5): Superb - Great house with a beautiful garden/terrace above Lapa with a view over the centre and right next to the famous stairs. Very friendly hosts and delicious breakfast served in a very cosy and tastefully furnished living room. Highly recommended.
- Paraskevi (10/5): Beautiful and cosy place between Santa Teresa and Lapa - Casa Igba is perfectly situated between Lapa and Santa Teresa, the best neighborhoods of Rio's center. The house is beautifully renovated and has only a few rooms so the atmosphere is very cosy. The owners live right next door and they were really kind and helpful. I loved the decoration, the rooms were beautiful, bright and comfy. The terrace has nice view too. The breakfast which was included was excellent, I missed it already. I will definitely recommend it! Everything was perfect. Just keep in mind that there are stairs to reach the rooms and also stairs inside the rooms so people with mobility disabilities will find it difficult to move around.
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Romulo (8/5): Very good -
- Mauro (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mats (10/5): Exceptional -
- Florian (10/5): Exceptional - A most beautiful and highly charming place! The rooms are simple and convenient. There's only four of them, so the atmosphere is highly relaxed and relaxing – also due to the very sweet host. Wonderful breakfast and amazing view of central Rio and the bay from the room window and the hotel terrace. Highly recommended! –
- Mats (10/5): Exceptional -
- Murphy (10/5): Amazing and so sad to leave! - The hosts, Guilherme and Maiza were really warm and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble for them and the staff. The house and garden were beautiful, full of interesting art and places to relax. We stayed in a double room with a mezanine bedroom and balcony with street views. We loved our room, the bed was so comfy and the shower great!
Initially we were a bit unsure about choosing Santa Teresa as it was not on the coast but it turned out to be the perfect location with cobbled streets and an arty bohemian vibe. Lots of interesting shops and places to eat. We were always happy to return at the end of the day. Selaron steps are around the corner from Casa Igba and the metro station is a short walk to easily get to beaches. Guilherme put us in touch with a great tour operator and arranged local taxis to visit the main attractions.
It felt like home and we would struggle to stay anywhere else ever again! Thank you Guilherme and Maiza.
- Ethan (9/5): a lovely break in the Rio hills - airy rooms; sublime sight- and soundscapes; super-friendly hosts; perfectly ripe fruit in the tasty breakfast bathroom fixtures and surfaces could use some updating
- Deirdre (7/5): Satisfying .. it was a hot & busy period pre carnival! - The breakfast was wonderful laid out v elegantly with real napkins, fresh coffee or tea, varied fruits & breads as well as 3 different appliances to toast or warm the former Also home baked treats such as coconut cake & brownies , juice & eggs as desired … My bed was a little 2 hard & cramped!
- Mony (10/5): Exceptional - What an unique and lovely place!!
Everything in this house is so special including the warm welcome!
We had a awesome view from our room!
I‘d love to come back!
Santa Teresa at it‘s best!!!
- Markovic (10/5): Exceptional - The best booking stay i've had and i've had them a lot. The most charming house, feels like the one from the movies od south america. All the details, the music playing really puts you in the vibe of Brasil. Hosts are great, helpfull and careing. Can't recomend this place enough.
- Marc (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kirsten (7/5): Lovely hosts but questionable area - Really liked the B&B, and the breakfast was amazing. The hosts were super friendly and helped us try to locate some transfers for us. The immediate area was safe in the evening, but don't walk the wrong direction. It was so hard to get a taxi or uber to pick us up from the location because of the hills, and this made staying there feel unsafe if we were going outside of the region. Some people griped about having to climb stairs/hills to get there but it's just more about the safety in the area. I wouldn't go to Rio again, but if we did, others suggested us to stay in the south side.
- Christelle (10/5): Highly recommend this place! - Great room, air conditioning, great views, easy communication When it rains, Uber refuses to go up the hill which needs to be considered. Otherwise, over New Year there and all went very well, just take the necessary precautions :-)
- Jiri (10/5): Hidden gem at Santa Teresa. - Very nice location close up to historical tramway and pleasant walks through Santa Teresa. Very close to Escandaria Selaron and further to Arcos da Lapa and downtown. Beautiful views from the property. Delicious breakfast. The property is full of interesting artworks. It's clear that someone took time and efforts to make it nice.
- Penner (10/5): Exceptional - The atmosphere was eclectic and flowed well from inside to outside. N/A
- Marija (10/5): Exceptional - Every single thing. Everything was amazing. All was perfect!
- Klemen (9/5): Superb -
- Maaike (10/5): a great B&B to say at - The breakfasts swerved were delicious and plenty full. Loved the servings of fresh local fruits.
There are many areas , in the house, so sit and relax including a pool to cool off.
The hosts were very helpful in providing tourist information.
The location in Santa Teresa was perfect and close to restaurants , the famous Escardia Seleron and tram. the only downside for the location is the fact that you need to be able to walk up steep roads and stairs. All houses, including this lovely B&B have stairs.
- Rushmi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hanna (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful house with a welcoming atmosphere. Beautiful Space to start discovering Rio.
- Peter (9/5): Superb -
- Clémence (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mary (9/5): Superb -
- Mihai (10/5): Exceptional - We spent a wonderful week at Casa Igba, a place where I felt at home and like at a museum at the same time. A tastefully decorated place with paintings, many books and areas to relax.
The host is very nice and helps you with any information you need. In addition, it can recommend more than the touristy places to visit, such as local art galleries.
The location is nestled in a bohemian neighborhood, and the view over the city is very beautiful.
- Joshua (10/5): Absolutely excellent. Highly recommend - the hosts were amazing and went above an beyond! - The host and the staff were absolutely excellent. They were so helpful and really went above and beyond. They helped us order Ubers and told us the best restaurants to go to and attractions to visit. They were the best hosts we have ever experienced To get to the property you had to walk up an extremely steep hill or the famous steps so it was very strenuous to do every day multiple times a day in 35 degrees heat with backpacks.
- Daniel (10/5): The best place to stay in Rio! - Amazing place, beautifully decorated in a nice neighborhood just a short walk from Santa Teresa. We felt safe. Great value stay during Carnaval, breakfast was beautiful, nice variety and the rooms were extremely comfortable, highly recommend!
- Rogerio (8/5): Very good -
- Briantravels60 (9/5): Superb -
- Marit (9/5): Great host, great location and great breakfast :) - Great location, the house is super cool looking and I loved our loft bed (not so convenient if drunk or pregnant I suppose haha). The host is super friendly and helpful and he recommended a list of some great Brazilian music artists to us after we showed interest. They also did our laundry for free which was super nice! We especially loved the breakfast! It was amazing! And the music really adds to it :) Going up the hill was a bit of a workout so be prepaired for that. Would love to stay again! -
- Ildiko (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (10/5): We felt really at home at Casa Igba and are so pleased we stayed there. We would highly recommend Casa Igba! - Guilherme, the owner, was brilliant- he made us feel right at home and really looked after. He gave us lots of helpful information about the local area, and a highlight was breakfast- it was delicious, every day! Guilherme was also very accommodating with us with our check in time and doing breakfast earlier so that we could eat before going out early for a tour.
Our room was spotlessly clean, and the aircon was great. We loved the view from our balcony and also from the roof/outside areas. The house was arty and interesting, and we enjoyed meeting other travellers over breakfast. We also didn’t have any issues with safety in this location. Nothing!
- Meredith (10/5): A very pleasurable experience. - Gorgeous historic casa in the lovely location of Santa Teresa in Rio. Plenty of downstairs room to use as well as the bedroom.
There is one large bedroom (‘the red room’) with double bed and wonderful views. The other 3 rooms are small with single beds, some with one bed up on a mezzanine.
Very nice helpful owner who speaks good English. Nothing. But I would recommend the large (red) room.
- Adrien (10/5): Great place - This place is really a little paradise in Rio.
All is clean, commun parties are very welcoming.
The terrace is lovely, The view is beautiful.
Owners welcome you in a simple but very nice way, they make all to for your stay to be a good moment. Charming people.
Special mention to the delicious breakfast.
I’ve been to several hostel in my life, this one is really on my top 3.
You could come to Rio just for Casa IGBA!
Just be aware that it’s nearly at the top of a harsh slope, so if you are not at least a bit fit, you will struggle to climb. Nothing
- Ildiko (10/5): Exceptional -
- Allison (10/5): Exceptional - Loved everything about this place. Beautiful, comfortable home in great location. Lots of areas inside and out for relaxing. The host was extremely helpful, especially all of his attention in helping us locate our luggage that did not make it on our flight.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Henriette (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kemran (10/5): Exceptional - It was very stylish. Beautiful decor, unique layout. Great view. Lovely people who owned & managed it.
- Barbara (7/5): Good - the friendly atmosphere, like in a family rooms clean but very simple
- Kasdaug (10/5): Best stay in Rio! - The house is filled with a happy and friendly vibe from everyone. Great host, very good breakfast, comfortable rooms, lovely view over the city, a pool and clean cold water available for free. I can only recommend this place, and if we return to Rio, we will come back here again! The house is located up a steep hill, so a bit of climbing is required. During the festival, the taxi drivers did not really want to go up there unfortunately.
- Lucy (10/5): Great place to stay in Rio - They are so friendly and it is a beautiful property with great views and an outdoor area. When traveling back at night I would advise taking an Uber as it is a little distance from the metro
- Tania (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tonio (10/5): Recommended little paradise in Santa Teresa - Very nice location, a little and hidden paradise inside Santa Teresa. Delicious breakfast. Very friendly owners -
- Glenn (10/5): Best place to stay in Lapa when visiting Rio - Amazing place to stay with amazing views of the city and nice and close to the nightlife happening in Lapa. the bed was huge and super comfortable and the hosts were lovely. We didn’t stay long enough.
- Suman (8/5): beautiful place in the old city near selaron steps. - very nice location, just a block from the famous painted selaron staircase. the owner was very nice and helpful with a lot of information and helped in arranging a taxi. they opened their kitchen so I could warm my food and help myself. the house is very nice and artfully decorated. the breakfast was very nice and sumptuous with fruits, juices, breads and coffee etc. since the property is located on a hill, you have to either walk the selaron steps to get to it or the taxi has to drive uphill which can be tricky during rain.
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jade (10/5): Very beatiful b&b with the very best hosts! - It is like staying with family. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating and have great knowledge about Rio and Brazil. Guilherme arranged a cab for our early morning flight but drove us himself when the cab did not ring back when he double checked in the morning. They even provided us with breakfast in the middle of the night. Location is also perfect: right next to Escaderia Scelarón, trendy cafés and restaurant in 10 minute walk uphill. Feels safe especially if you are not alone. From the terrace you have an excellent view on Centro area and the house itself is really beautiful and you are allowed everywhere on the terrace, living room etc. Beds were good quality. For us everything was wonderful. It is good to note for people that are not steady on their feet that the house is on a very steep street and has stairs and a mezzanine level in the room. For everyone else we totally recommend to stay here if you want to explore the Santa Theresa area.
