Plat House in Shin Okobu is a well appointed small apartment but it does have some drawbacks.
The location is close to the Shin Okobu station, about a mile from the bustle and noise of Shinjuku. The flat I chose had two beds, a bath, small kitchen, and en-suite laundry. There is also a small balcony fine for drying clothes.
Before arrival, the owners emailed directions to the apartment and instructions for accessing it using a key in the mailbox. The mailbox in turn was secured with a small luggage lock, the combination of which is in the emailed directions.
An issue I has was finding the flat! Tokyo has few street names. Rather addresses are based on neighborhoods and circles emanating from the center (I think). Nevertheless, it’s very confusing. Add to this iMap and Google Maps do not work very well, perhaps due to signals bouncing off the high rises. Plat house is on a small side street and difficult to see. I disembarked from the Shin Okobu station and following my iPhone map, walked about a half mile in the wrong direction. I finally hired a taxi and even the driver had a difficult time locating the building. Again, the information manual had directions and photos, but it was still difficult.
Had the location been a true hotel with a sign, it would have been much easier to find.
